Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SPRING & SUMMER sale, or to see some new SUMMER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I haven't been able to visit my local b&m recently, but I was wondering if anyone here has ordered/tried on the "Lightweight cotton tunic top" item 26559 ?? It's catalog/online only, unfortunately, and I wanted to find out if the fit is too big, or just right? I'm a 6-8 in perfect shirts, and that's just in between "small" and "medium". Help? :)

  2. Nothing tempting me at the moment.

  3. I'm going out of town again, so no trip to J.Crew for me.

  4. I went to the b&m yesterday so no need to venture back this weekend. As others have already mentioned, practically the entire store was marked down. The b&m's have to be getting ready to have a % off sale soon. Of course there is still a wall full of tee's and a hodge podge of other items in the 'sale' section (lieutenant jackets, frankie mini-dresses, really thin not so great shorts, couple of ripstop cargo pants, linen sweaters-dip dyed, wrap, etc.).

Nothing I have to have except for cropped ripstop cargo pant - LOVE them. They're more fitted in the rear and thighs than the full length cargos (I'm on the bigger end of a size 6 so it could just be me).

There were a few new items, some not on the web like the embroidered cotton tunics in deep purple and off-white. These were cute but run really big so I'm sure some will make it to sale (looks like you could belt them). I'm not digging purple but would consider this tunic - it looks great w/the cobblestone colored drawstring deux pants.

  5. I am looking for boys tees. I'm not sure these were/are in store but I want two of the pirate tees "ships ahoy" and "smugglers map" in 4/5 or 8/10.
    If anyone sees them LMK!!
    Thanks.

  6. Heading over on Saturday to make a lot of returns. It seems I keep a few pieces but return a lot recently. I returned a big box by mail last week and now I have a sack full of 9 items! Oh well. Have found a few jems in amongst the orders. Lollipop jacket due to arrive today so will either like it and keep or return with other items....If I have time after all the returns I hope to look at the sale section!

  7. I'm heading in today with a bag full of returns. My PS emailed me that today6 the store is getting in its final summer items and might have more added to sale. I'll report back, but am expecting lots of t-shirts and nothing that I didn't already order during the sale. ;)

  8. Trouser shorts are 39.99, 2 colors in all different sizes. That's all I remember, everything else seems to be the same online, with no additional percent off. Oh, and all those ratty tees!

  9. Meeting a friend at the mall later for coffee, so will probably peek into j.crew, but their in-store offerings haven't intrigued me lately. ... Surprised myself by placing *three* orders during the 20% off & FS bonanza. Got the first package yesterday: The blush tweed pencil skirt FLOTUS made famous on the cover of Vogue. Fabulous. I also got the perfect pencil skirt in fresh plum - two thumbs up. For all the items I won't buy from J.Crew (cashmere, dream sweaters, tees), I do really, really like the pencil skirts.

  10. Hi LBH - I absolutely agree about the pencil skirts... for the most part, they are perfection (and for me, only not so much when the fabric has absolutely no stretch)! I'm wearing a denim pencil from Fall 05 that is my Holy Grail denim skirt - great length, fit, and color. I think that the pencil skirt is the one area that I would be truly devestated if JC started skimping on. Glad to hear your pencil purchases are so great!

I can't bring myself to go to a B&M this weekend... I'm too embarassed by all of the merchandise in the sale section that's been there for a long time! That pilled-up Mackenzie jacket that I made a PV of several months ago is still there. And the wall of tees... just send them off to the discount stores and call it a day. The last time I was there, an SA tried to sell me on some "new markdown" tees covered with ruffles and sequins - that looked like every other tee in the sale section. Oh, well - they're gonna need to do a % off (and probably make them the dreaded FS) in order to clear out the inventory.

  11. No trip to the b&m for me, headed to the Jersey shore for a wedding and beach time! :-)

Stopped in briefly at the Roc Center store to make a few returns. Nothing excited me... but then again I placed two orders during the 20% off promo, so I'm shopped out for now.

  12. @Silver lining: I could open a boutique from my closet just selling pencil skirts, and many of my favorites come from j.crew. If they start cutting corners in that department, I'll be by to pick you up & we'll head straight to the offices of mickey & jenna armed with placards and dressed in pencil skirts to protest :-)

  13. IRL--are you speaking of the relatively new "cropped ripstop cargo pant" #28138 that are $69.50? Did they have them at your b&m? Are they similar fit to the ripstops from the fall (before the full length ones?) I love cargos too and curious about the fit. thanks!

  14. I have a family gathering and a birthday party to attend so no shopping at the mall for me.

@ Summer: I'd love to hear what you think of the Lollipop jacket when you receive it.

  15. For me J Crew pants fits me well and I have not had any issues with the quality, the sizing can vary depending on the cut but overall I am pleased with them. Anything else I purchased this season with the exception of the Bling Cotton cardigan has been a bust and have been added to my do not buy list.

  16. irl: I am too interested in the cropped ripstop pant even though I am on a shopping ban, do they fit like the Safari cropped pant? the measurements seem to indicate the pants run big.

  17. Heading to the mall with my pile of returns. Yesterday I received 3 boxes and I am only keeping 2 items, pair of Reese studded ballet flats in pale oak and, surprisingly, Schuyler dress in ivory. I cannot decide if the Metallic Jacquard pleated skirt is cute or tacky. It is still in my 'maybe' pile... On the other hand, Marlie dress is a definite return, it fits like a sad shapeless sack and is too short.

  19. OT since I think it is only online but a quick note on the Schuyler dress. If you are looking for a white dress and especially if you have a medium to a larger chest and a smaller waist this one has a great fit. I think it may not work on smaller chest because there would be extra fabric left possibly bunching up and if you are really well endowed it may be too much emphasis. This dress in ivory has three (!) layers of fabric so it is NOT a see through. It is about 2 inches above knee on me (5'7" size 8) but there is about 2 extra inches in the hem. The fabric is very breezy and the dress feels VERY comfortable. I was surprised how much I liked it. At $65 (or even $80) it is a great summer dress, a keeper this time!

  20. casual-crew,

Good time I think for a shopping ban myself:0 I am so busy right now--esp. this summer that taking the rest of June and July off would be good!

  21. I don't think I'll go thie weekend - waiting on my extra20 order to see what else I need to return...

If anyone notices, can you tell me if the elastic blossoms belt (27314) and/or metallic mesh flip flops (11700) are on sale? Thanks so much!

    Happy shopping, everyone! :)

  22. ajc, thanks for the feedback on the Schuyler dress. It looked adorable on DaniBP but her body is quite different from mine so I didn't think I would chance it. You have me re-interested :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. ajc, sorry, one more question - did you get your normal size?

  24. jcrewphd,

Just got the lollipop jacket. It is nice but does not super excite me. Lots of fraying bits on my trim. Yes, I could cut them off but for $120 I know this could/would become bothersome. I am in like/not LOVE and I surprisely LOVED my Dauphine I got a couple of weeks ago in the mail. So while the jacket is pretty just not $120 pretty or something I know I would wear a lot. I know I would grab another jacket I already own first before this one.

    Hope that helps.

  25. PS

Must also mention the pockets that button. The top part of the pockets IMO is just tacked down but not to the edges on both. I can see them curling/pulling away. Strange for such a pricey item.

  26. Just got a call from my store saying there will be new items out early next week, and that this would be the last new stuff until August when the fall clothes get rolled out... can't even think about cords and tweeds right now! :)

  27. mommydearest, my size in dresses is usually 6 or 8. I got 8 because 8 was perfect in Honey clover dress and it seemed like identical cut. This one seems to have still have some extra room for my 34D chest. So I could probably get away with 6 but 8 is very comfortable, still does not look too big imo and I will probably belt it anyway. I also wanted to get 8 for length, I did not call for the measurements but sometimes 8 is a bit longer than 6. For a reference I took 6 in suiting dresses like Banquette and Andre and I buy 6 in Perfect shirts and 6 or 4 in most camis this year. So I think this dress is TTS but it has ample room for the girls. HTH

  28. I went to the Barton Creek Square store to make some returns and they have lots of tees, random sweaters , pants and skirts on sale. There are some studded tunics on sale(still $88 online) and some of the flower embroidered mosaic tops (off white with black stitching) on sale also. They have some new merchandise including the Caprese tunics... which look huge.

  29. Went to Lake Forest today to unload a few returns and the sale section was stuffed ... the usual ratty tees, but also lots of dresses, pencil skirts, ballet flats, and a whole rack of belts, scarves. Tried on the pink Tie Dye Perfect Shirt for 29.99 on a whim, still FP online, and surprisingly I just loved it.

  30. casual crew & gem twin - Yes, yes and yes! I LOVE the cropped ripstop cargo pant #28138 that are $69.50 at my b&m. They are cropped close to the leg and just the right length. They 'fit' in my rear and thighs without any slack but without being too tight (I have hips & a butt-not straight up & down figure.). I tried them in the color coal.

I'm trying to be helpful and give my opinion regarding the fit but I have to say I gained weight over the past year and a half and may not be the best person to listen to regarding fit. I've been a size 6 in JC pants for years but cannot fit into my size 6 chino's, cords from 2008, some shorts from last summer and ripstops from spr/sum 2009(sceaming as I shove another Pringle in my mouth!! Really, losing 5 lbs would solve the fit issue.).

Here goes: The fit of #28138 is definitely alot slimmer in the hips, bum and thighs than these: Ripstop cargo pant item 19952, but not as slim as these from spring/summer 2009: Ripstop utility pant item 14784. Item 14784 were cut just right to me last year but I can't fit in them this year because I gained weight. Hopefully this helps someone!

  31. Two items that I got today and LOVE are the Coral Reef tank. So lovely. And the Marseiles floral cami. What a fast mark down on the later. I really like the fit and fabric.

  32. Thanks ajc! That does help. JCrew has so few dresses for those of us with girls ;)

  33. what pencil skirts are people seeing? i have to start building a work closet... after 6 years of not working!

  34. sub... not sure what happened

    ReplyDelete
  35. One of the things that drew me to JCrew is the fact that they made dresses and tops for smaller busted ladies. My whole life everything on top was always too big. I understand larger ladies wanting items as well but I just want to let JCrew know us small chested ladies really appreciate what they make as I know they read this blog. I bought tons from you from 2004-9 in the dress and fitted camisole department:)

  36. Ruffles- I can't believe the shirt is 29.99 in store and 78.00 online. That pricing discrepancy has really made me NOT order online many times! I am still wanting the zip minis but won't pay 69.99 knowing they are 19.99 in store :({end rant}

    ReplyDelete
  37. I just stopped by to do some returns and half the store was sale - mostly tees, like everyone else has mentioned. On the topic of pricing discrepancies between store and online - I was shocked to see that the solid and striped Caprese tunics, which are $35 and $38 online, were both $49.50 in the store!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Regarding the caprese tunics, the catalog also shows the prices as $35 and $38. How could the stores not honor that price when it's what is printed in the catalog? This makes no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I went to the Fifth Avenue store in NYC for a change and was shocked to see markdowns on stuff that came in the last rollout three weeks ago.
I don't remember who was looking for the crystal colletto in the petrol color but they had a couple of those if you want to call them.
I bought the rose vine blazer (59.99 in store) and the new tank with the ribbon on the shoulder (can't remember the name but it is also online an very pretty).

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ema,

I just returned my rose vines blazer. The online price is not as good and mine was defective.

I did pick up some cute floral flip flops for myself and my daughter and a sale embellished tee. I have not bought more than a couple from them over the years and only on super duper sale:)

  41. Lots of tee shirts, skimmer pants, minnie pants w/ & w/o zippers on sale @ Penn Square J.Crew (Oklahoma City). I made a few returns and picked up the everyday open cardigan in a periwinkle color for $29.99. PS said new arrivals will be in store next week.

  43. @ Summer: Thanks for the review of the Lollipop jacket. I'm still on the fence about it. However, I loved my Dauphine at the sale price. ;-)
