Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the WINTER sale, or to see some new SPRING arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

Don't Just Look Like J.Crew {smell like it too!}

There is an article over at GQ about J.Crew's latest partnership (click here to read in its entirety):
Exclusive: J.Crew Gets Into the Scent Game with D.S. & Durga
By Matthew Sebra
March 26, 2013

After getting into the closets of, seemingly, every man in America, Frank Muytjens and his team of menswear folks over at J.Crew are now looking to claim real estate on guys' bathroom countertops as well. Working with Brooklyn-based cologne maker D.S. & Durga, Muytjens and Durga's perfumer David Seth Moltz collaborated on the exclusive, original scent that pulls inspiration from a cool, foggy day Muytjens spent at Big Sur.
According to the 'Crew's head of men's design: "The California coast is a sacred place for me, and it's been an inspiration for us in several men's collections at J.Crew. It's undisturbed, understated... it's raw in a way, and you have to search for the beauty in it. The air is rich out there and it's stays with you. I can smell it now." That intensity is translated through notes of wild herbs, predominantly sage and eucalyptus, that blend with coastal woods and kelp, producing a cologne that deftly walks the line between fresh and masculine. The scent's depth is also due to D.S. & Durga's small-batch production and premium raw ingredients, factors that are evident from first spray. We'd go on talking about the crisp cologne and quality for the price, but c'mon, it's J.Crew -- did you expect anything less?
J.Crew is currently selling 1.7 oz (50 ml) of the D.S. & Durga for J.Crew Homesteader's cologne (item 01868) for $98. Clearly this is on the pricier side for men's cologne (even for women's perfume).

The description for the cologne is pretty funny too. I can just picture "the hardy men who settled Big Sur among the wild herbs", and I am not sure if they are wearing cologne. Let alone dress preppy in J.Crew's button-down shirts, khakis, and Sperry Top-Siders. (I think it would be more like Patagonia fleeces and LL Bean boots.)

Don't get me wrong, I am definitely curious about the scent in real life. Especially one that "walks the line between fresh and masculine" (...what does that even mean?!?) I just don't know if I will be purchasing it for the men in my life anytime soon.

What are your thoughts on this latest partnership with J.Crew? Have you smelled the scent? If so, please share with us your review! :)

J.Crew Factory: Get 50% off the entire store

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Mel, as well as PTO Prep (in this post), who shared the following promotion for J.Crew Factory.

J.Crew is offering Factory Store shoppers a special treat. Customers can take 50% off purchases in stores. This offer is good through Saturday, March 30, 2013. The fine print includes:
*Offer valid on purchases made in J.Crew Factory stores from March 28, 2013, through March 30, 2013. Offer not valid in J.Crew stores, at jcrewfactory.com, jcrew.com or on phone orders. One-time use only. Offer cannot be applied to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards and cannot be redeemed for cash or combined with any other promotion. To redeem, present this email in store at time of purchase. Offer valid in the U.S. and Canada only. Terms of offer are subject to change. Store associates: Scan bar code on email and retain at time of transaction.
Just click on the image above or HERE (which will take you to a larger version of the image) and print it out (so the associate can access the barcode).

This is a fantastic offer, especially with all those new arrivals and in-store promotions. {Wahoo!} My top pick is the Factory intarsia Charley sweater in nautical rope (Item 63659; $78.00). I love the nautical image and the Sandstone Navy shade is perfect for Spring.

Happy Factory Store Shopping!!! :)

JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

JGIC Product Review: Chest pockets, I don't think so

A big "thanks!" to J.Crew Guy In Canada who is graciously reviewing Men's items from J.Crew with us.
Years ago fresh out of university I worked part-time at a local clothing store.  We sold Polo, Guess, Tommy amoung other brands.  While the work was fun and we had a great staff it was all about the staff discount of 40% off regular prices that made me work there for two years.  The downside was regularly owing more than I earned.  Besides filling my closet I learned a great deal about service and also developed a better sense of style.

Men and women shop very differently.  Guys touch the fabric to see how it feels and then check the price.  Women hold up the garment and often hold it in front of themselves usually near a mirror.  The whole laying a garment in front of themselves was always a mystery to me, but if a woman did that and smiled you could usually count on her to try it on.  By my rough count women buy about 25% of what they try on.  Men are much different.  If a guy goes into a change room 75% of the time he buys.  Women would often try things out just to see how it feels or looks with no intention of buying.  A guy tries it on and says yeah I like it wrap it up, or no thanks.

Two of the women I worked with were very shrewd judges of clothing.  The minute a box arrived they'd rip it open look a the garment and then either nod with a yes that will sell or nope.  Sometimes I completely understood why; mustard yellow = sale rack, but sometimes they mystified me.  Denim was one area I learned much about.  One gal had the pocket rule, small pockets on jeans made your butt look bigger.  And she was right, it's true.

I learned that I like small pockets on shirts.  Currently J.Crew sells many men's shirts with two chest pockets.  And like the gal I worked with, they're a pass for me.  A shirt without a pocket is slimmer looking, more polished and when you wear a slim cut sweater doesn't give you nipples from the buttons on the pocket flap.  I have a chambray shirt from a few seasons ago, #84018 is basically the same one.  It's featured all the time on the website and in the catalog.  The fabric and colour look great with so many things, but those flap pockets are a deal breaker.

Recently I picked up a lightweight chambray shirt #73976 in azure.  While the blue is ever so slightly brighter than I would prefer, it's a great colour with a light, soft fabric.  Rather than the usual button down this one has hidden buttons under the tips of the collar.  It's offered in several colours, azure and baltic being the standouts in my mind.  I plan to wear mine with a slim sweater in merino or a chunky linen v-neck.  Once it's warmer it'll be untucked with chino shorts.

Pockets are a nice finishing touch, but seriously J.Crew, what's with the over sized ones?  It's not like I'm tucking in a pocket protector and pens.
Another fantastic review! "Thanks!" again to J.Crew Guy In Canada for his take on chest pockets!

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's placement of pockets on shirts? Do you own any of the items mentioned in this post? If so, please share with us your review. :)

Enjoy Some More! 25% (or 30%) Off $150+

J.Crew has extended for a *second time* the offer to take 25% off & free shipping all orders of $150+ (30% off for those who open a J.Crew card) with promo code LOVEJCREW. This offer now ends on Saturday, March 30, 2013. (Do we think it will be extended again?)

I am assuming the offer for current card holding members- to get 30% off and free shipping on $150+ with promo code CARDMEMBER- is extended too.

Either this sale is doing phenomenally well for J.Crew, or J.Crew is running out of promotion-related ideas to offer customers. ;) I personally think it is the former. I also believe the reason behind it is summed up nicely by Silver_Lining (in this post):
I think that if anything, this promo illustrates that JC's starting price points are just too high. Take 30% off them and things have been selling out like crazy.
After all these years, JCAs have noticed (1) prices rising for items that are the same (with not so much the same quality/materials) and (2) quick turnarounds from new arrivals to first cuts. So its hard to justify paying full price for anything. Maybe J.Crew should just reconsider their initial price points? It seems like they could sell a lot more new arrival merchandise this way.

Will you be checking out J.Crew? Did you already pick up an item or two? If so, please share!

J.Crew's Eye Candy {one in each, please!}

It is no secret that I love J.Crew's jewelry collection. Every time I convince myself that I own enough pieces (you don't want to know how many versions of the Bubble necklace I own!), J.Crew offers up another jewel I have to have. Enjoy the eye candy in this post!

The question I always struggle with when it comes to J.Crew's jewelry... is it worth it? I mean, it is just costume jewelry after-all. Would my money be better spent on items that are more classic (in terms of style) and made in better materials (in real gold or silver)?

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's jewelry collection? Are you a fan or foe? Do you think the pieces are worth the price tag? Which piece from the current collection are you lusting (or already own)? Please share! :)

Questionable Item of the Week: Hawaiian Sunset Tie

"Thanks!" to Cousy (in this post) who pointed out an interesting addition to J.Crew's accessories line: Hawaiian sunset tie (item 11588; $65.00).

J.Crew shares the following: "We're always borrowing his ties, so we figured we might as well design one of our own: This handmade version in a breezy beach print is understated yet pretty—and it's just what we've been waiting for." Whaat?!? Understated?

The style of this tie (out-dated) seems like the complete opposite of what J.Crew portrays themselves as: classic with a twist. All I can think is the 80's tv show "Miami Vice". No, this tie will not do.

What are your thoughts on the Hawaiian Sunset tie? Would you buy this or leave it at the store? Have you see this first hand, and if so, what are your impressions?

"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

Last Day to Enjoy 25% (or 30%) Off $150+

J.Crew has extended until today the offer to take 25% off & free shipping all orders of $150+ (30% off for those who open a J.Crew card) with promo code LOVEJCREW. For current card holding members, get 30% off and free shipping on $150+ with promo code CARDMEMBER.

Usually, J.Crew does not offer these types of universal promotions (that work on both regular and sale items) too often. So it is a welcome offer (and a great offer to pick up a new arrival item or two).  I really enjoyed reading everyone's real-life reviews on the new arrivals, and can't wait to read more of them as the LOVEJCREW packages continue to make their way to customers' homes.

Unfortunately I did not get anything this time around since (1) I am more of sale shopper (and I get a better deal with the usual 30% off sale promotions) and (2) it's too cold where I live to think about warm weather Spring clothes (let alone wear them).

Will you be checking out J.Crew? Did you already pick up an item or two? If so, please share!

J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

Jenna Lyons at Fashion Week {pattern overload}

A big "thanks!" to awakeningmywardrobe, as well as Fabulous Florida Mommy (in this post), who shared the image above of J.Crew's Creative Director, Jenna Lyons, during fashion week back in February 2013 (image from Vanessa Jackman's "New York Fashion Week AW 2013....Jenna" post).

Just for fun, the second image is of Jenna during Fashion Week in September 2012 (image from Vanessa Jackman's "New York Fashion Week SS 2013...Jenna" post).

Jenna loves to mix things up with bold patterns and contrasting colors. I feel like she is the only one who can get away with these outfits! If I tried any of these looks, I get the side-eye from my friends.

What are your thoughts on Jenna Lyons' outfit? In general, do you like her personal style? Would you emulate it? :)

Do you have any items you would like to swap/sell/share among yourselves through your outside listing/auction site?

Sidenote: What's up with JCAs writing "sub" or "subscribing" as their comment? It just means they are subscribing to all the comments (which are then automatically sent to their email) in that particular thread. This way they can stay aware of all the comments posted. :)

J.Crew April 2013 Catalog {St. Barths}

Although J.Crew's latest April 2013 catalog is being mailed to customers (and ready to be picked up in stores), it is still not available online. However, J.Crew did post a few images of the catalog and a video. Enjoy the eye candy below!

The St. Barths location is a gorgeous backdrop for J.Crew's latest arrivals. I mentioned this before, but the images are a throw back to an earlier J.Crew... and I love it!

What are your thoughts on the upcoming catalog? Do you like the outfits featured in the catalog?

JGIC Product Review: What Would JFK Do?

 A big "thanks!" to J.Crew Guy In Canada who is graciously reviewing Men's items from J.Crew with us. In this review, he looks at several pieces from J.Crew's line for men:
Every one needs a style icon.  Someone you can reference and think of when you're online or in a store and thinking about a purchase and just a little unsure if it's right or not.

JFK is my go to guy.  In my mind probably one of the most tastefully dressed
men of the 20th century.  Cary Grant runs a close second.  More modern choices could be Ryan Gosling (go Canada!) or Brad Pitt.  But the best choice for me and my life is JFK.  His looks influence mine and he regularly makes me dress better.  My style mantra; "What would JFK do?"

The ivy league look has been looming larger for the past several years and really never goes away.  Spending what I do on clothing I need it to last more than season or two without me looking like a fashion casualty.  First item on my list rep silk tie.  J.Crew makes these every year and a current offering worth considering is #37073; a tie in navy with either a blue double stripe or a red one.  Pait it with a point collar shirt or a button down in white #68015 or pale blue oxford #60763.  Pick out a Ludlow and you're good to go.  Just don't finish it with sneakers.  Dressed up with sneakers is just a little trying too hard, so stick with a nice pair of lace-ups in chocolate brown.  Tailored, classic and subtle, a look that will always look good and never give you a "what was I thinking?"

Now that we've covered the dress-up end, we'll move onto casual.  And this is where things should be easier, but are actually far trickier.  Just like the above look your casual wardrobe needs to be tailored and pulled together without appearing like you're trying too hard.  This summer go with a pair of chino shorts and a washed oxford.  Both should be classically coloured and not pressed.  Try #
60763 in a pale violet or yellow, nice punch of colour that would look great with a 9" broken-in chino short in a honey brown colour #67140.  And now you can throw on those sneakers, say some Nike's with the waffle sole #64477 in coal.  Just no cheesey tank tops or beer tees alright?  The baggy oversized look is dead, so just walk away.

If it's cooler try a denim jacket over either the shorts or a pair of chinos.  Or a sweater or sweatshirt.  Hoodies work well too, but why not switch it up?  And the denim jacket works well over the shirt and tie for a more dressed down Friday evening.  Again the tailored look is the best option; looks smart and will make you look slim and polished even when you're casual.

So whenever you looking at a questionable item in a store or sitting at the computer wondering if you should click or not just ask yourself "What would JFK do?"
Another fantastic review! "Thanks!" again to J.Crew Guy In Canada for his take on what makes a man style icon!

J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Ruth & Rose (in this post), ina (in this post), as well as SE Mom & GigiOfCa (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, as did the J.Crew Collection (click here). Unfortunately, the latest catalog (click here to view) is not yet available to view.

As many of you have already noticed and mentioned, many of the new arrivals on J.Crew's website are already available in J.Crew's brick & mortar stores.

Note: I wanted to mention that the Sale Section (click here to shop online) had a nice update this morning for Women (1200+ items) and Men (470+).

Exciting news! J.Crew is offering 25% off & free shipping all orders of $150+ (30% off for those who open a J.Crew card) with promo code LOVEJCREW. For existing cardmembers, get 30% off and free shipping on $150+ with promo code CARDMEMBER. For international customers (except Canada), enjoy free shipping on any order with promo code FREESHIP. These amazing offers expire Monday, March 25, 2013.

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

Madewell: 25% Off Sitewide (& free shipping on $125+)

"Thanks!" to many of you, who shared the following promotion from Madewell today.

Madewell is offering an additional 25% off and free shipping (on orders of $125+) with promo code 4SPRING. The offer ends Tuesday, March 26, 2013. The fine print includes:
*Offer valid in Madewell stores and at madewell.com from March 20, 2013, 12:01am ET through March 26, 2013, 11:59pm ET on purchases of $125 or more before shipping, handling and taxes are added. Offer not valid on phone orders. Offer cannot be applied to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards and cannot be redeemed for cash or used in combination with any other offer. Offer not valid on third-party branded merchandise. Discount will be applied at the register. To redeem online, enter code 4SPRING in the promo code box at checkout. Limit one promotional code per order. Orders will be shipped via regular shipping (3 to 6 business days) and return requests must be made in accordance with our return policy. Offer valid in the U.S. and Canada only. Terms of offer are subject to change.
This offer is available both on line and in stores. So if you live close by a brick & mortar location, it is worth checking out their stuff. (I find more often than not, prices are better in stores than online.)

Will you be checking out Madewell? Did you already pick up an item or two? If so, please share!

25-30% Off $150+ at J.Crew {in store only}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including ShopWithM (in this post), as well as Marietta & Blakemdjohns (in this post), who shared the following news:
J.Crew is offering 25% off $150+ all merchandise (and 30% off $150+ for cardholders) at brick and mortar (B&M) stores.
It is unclear how long this sale will run for. I am assuming for at least the next couple of days.

This extra percent off makes new arrivals look extra enticing! Plus, customers do not have to worry about any purchase being "final sale". (A huge bonus in my book!)

It is unclear how many B&M stores across the country will be participating in this promotion. Definitely worth a visit if you live near a store or a call beforehand to find out.

Is your store offering this sale? Will you be checking out the new arrivals? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get?

J.Crew Final Sale {nice update}

J.Crew has a really nice update to their Final Sale section online (click here) this morning. Lots of merchandise for everyone (1120+ for Women and 450+ for Men). Yey!

It also looks like there are some new items that got markdown. For example, the Gilded Brocade Top (Item 39975; $150.00) is now on sale for $99.99. This gorgeous top came out earlier this year.

As you might expect, some of the pop-back items are selling out quickly due to low inventory. However, the sale section (as a whole) is not moving as quickly as it normally does. I am hoping that tomorrow there will be another additional percent off sale. {fingers crossed}

It is also worth mentioning that several brick & mortar (B&M) stores are still running an additional 30% off their Final Sale. Many stores will price match the online sale price (before additional discount). So it might be worth a stop to look around.

Did you check out the Final Sale section today? Were you able to snag any amazing deals? If so, please share! :)
