J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Desert Flower, Marietta, & Irina, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} Although the J.Crew Collection (click here) & catalog online (click here to view) displays the same new arrivals for Summer from last time.

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. I was expecting to see more. There are some new shirts/tops, and dresses, and just a smattering of other things. My wallet is thankful that I didn't fall in love with anything. I like the liberty print shirt, but not for $118. There are several dresses I like but all have the dreaded "falls above knee" description.

  2. Thankfully, nothing is calling me from the latest rollouts-my wallet needs a rest. The only dress I am interested in, the Canterbury Bells Carolina shift dress, while lovely, at $250 cost prohibitive.

  3. Let me add to that. They bonus Jenna out how much and they came out with this garbage? I think she needs to have a little less press and on air tv time and a little more workie workie...

  4. So glad you posted this! I've been so behind the times lately -- I thought maybe I was just seeing things. Nothing I'm particularly smitten with this time around, but still fun to look at.

  5. I love the candy stripe dress but it's a small fortune and anyway I bought the skirt so it would be overkill. Apart from that, nop nothing piqued my interest.

  6. I see a few things I like: the Indigo-Striped Schuyler dress, Collage-Dot Seraphina Gown, and Shirred Strapless Dress. The Brushstroke mini is sort of cute, and the Smart trouser short would be nice if they had a longer inseam.

  7. uh, yeah....JENNA, GET YOUR WORK ON, GIRL. or, just go away.
    this stuff is awful.
yuck on all fronts. my wallet is saving TONS of money these days.

  8. There is nothing in which I am interested this time. The Liberty shirts are sweet, but I favor cool colors, so I'll pass.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Gosh, they must be in love with short skirts! Not only have they added more mini styles, but they shortened the length *again* of the pencil skirts. The 21" "summer" length is now 20.5 on the new Ink Blossom pencil skirt. I know it's not shortened by much, but sheesh..Here's what they should write on the front page:

"We're obsessed with short skirts. Show some leg, look inappropriate at your age. We're loving ours with sequined tops, ruffles, and thin fabrics made from legendary Japanese mills."

Sorry to keep beating a dead horse, but puh-lease give us more options, jcrew!

  10. I don't know about y'all but I'm going to order 4 or 5 of the slub cotton jumpsuit. It's just so flattering! ha ha! Seriously, enough with the jump suits. It's so silly that I can hardly type the word jumpsuit!

  11. I just looked again in the fresh light of dawn and I think this rollout is a bit sad. First off, so much is recycled. The cotton wool ruffled placket cardigan is the tartine is the ethereal. Same thing, a few different colors. Tie dye and dipping and bleaching on tees and cardis. Ruffles. And the skirts steadily inching up to the undies. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I love the ink blossom print and can't decide between the dress or the skirt. Have any of you ladies seen them in real life?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am tired of the motorcycle look zippers on cropped pants and thin fabrics on their tees. JC has upped the price on the Matchstick jeans and distressed them enough they will not last through multiple washings. Time for a change J Crew!

    ReplyDelete
  14. What's wrong with the Vintage Matchstick jean in the busted stone wash? They're only $39.99...there has to be a flaw somewhere! Any reviews?

    ReplyDelete
  15. This is not a new arrival but a sale item - can anyone comment on the Poplin Boardwalk jacket? Lately I've been so disappointed in my orders from JC that I'm hesitant to try this w/o having seen it first IRL.

    ReplyDelete
  16. i like many latest--the new cargos--they are practical for my life and not so short this time--hooray--like the new bay and cove-stripe shirts the silk moto jacket, saw a couple of the new shoes in the NYC shop--very pretty...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Nope, not feeling it. The dresses and shorts as well as skirts are way to short and everything else just looks blah. Muddy colors, and tired ruffles. My wallet is thankful.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Definitely thought there would be more that I could die for, but I guess my wallet will be thankful.

@FFM- I like the Collage-dot gown as well, but the description does not say that it's lined :( For nearly $300, a dress deserves full lining.

I also liked the Gallery-stripe Marlie racerback gown dress, Linen-silk Milla dress (from the last rollout) and straw urchin tote (I know - it's almost identical to last year's straw tote with the big flower).

  19. Two thumbs down. Totally not impressed overall. Like Christy said...more workie workie for Jenna methinks.

And the Fleurette backpack?? Really? It looks more like a big muddy mess than a "full-on-feminine" "exquisite" floral watercolor to me. ..here's to hoping it looks better IRL.

  20. Nothing for me either. Even though much of the year I can wear casual clothes to work they're making fewer items appropriate for even a casual office.

When they keep churning out ratty embellished tees and miniskirts, it's hard to believe the rosy financial information Alexis posted about earlier will continue because often it seems the emperor has no clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  21. A couple of days ago at the Rockefeller Center store, I saw some adorable skirts, but they were way, way too short. No one past their early early twenties has any business wearing skirts that short.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm with you all re: skirt lengths. Today I'm wearing this spring's perfect denim pencil skirt, which is 23.75" long. I feel covered, work appropriate, and respectable. Anything shorter than about 21" on me is too short. This skirt is also offered in petite so the length is a win-win for most everyone.

I just can't do shorter skirts. I guess I am becoming more conservative as I apporach my 40s! My younger self would be amazed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. There's yet another new Timex watch! It's a staggering $190 but I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Like everyone I'm not impressed. Nothing has really caught my eye.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hexicon, ITA. Actually, as of late I have been wondering how the financials can be so rosy, given the past couple of rollouts and the negative reactions on JCA, which I share. Didn't buy anything two weeks ago, won't buy anything now, although I am attracted to the latest bateau striped t. Call me crazy, because I clearly am.

AppGal, I believe the problem is the holes in the jeans. They are advertising another pair of vintage matchsticks as responding to customers' requests to make a pair without holes. I know I wouldn't buy a pair of jeans with holes if they were $9.99, but perhaps I'm showing my age (like Jenna, I wore ripped 501s in high school in the late 80s). Of course, those are on sale too, but not as low.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Loving the candy striped dress but not the price. The skirts are so short, even for me, and I myself am short :T

    ReplyDelete
  27. AppGal I bought the vintage distressed matchsticks in my B&M couple of weeks ago for $19.99. They had almost all sizes available. I actually tought they were great buy, would not spend over $100 on them since I have limited opportunities to wear them but for $19.99 I figured you can't go wrong. There was nothing wrong with them but I did have to size down to reduce waist gaping. Like most JC jeans they are cut for straight figure and I don't think they would work for curvier gals.
Imo, JC jeans are only good when they go on major, major sale to wear them very casually. Jean fabric is ok, not great, but the fit does not even compare to designer jeans (like the FP would suggest).

  28. I guess I'm in the minority because I like quite a few things.

Bay Stripe perfect shirt 27175. I'm a sucker for perfect shirts and I'm intrigued with the cotton/linen fabric on this one.

Linen dip-dye v-neck pullover 25936. While I do like this, I saw a similar one for less at BR the other day and the colors were nicer IMO.

Shawl collar cote cardigan 27770. I love chunky cotton sweaters and this one looks versatile in either color.

Solid ripstop field jacket 26994. Not crazy about the color choices but it looks pretty versatile for outdoorsy activities and I've always been a fan of J.Crew ripstop.

Matte jersey Marot dress 27594. Looks comfortable and proper for work, the fabric makes it a good one for travel too. I have some matte jersey pieces from J.Crew and they always look great.

Silk-linen tank dress 27442. With several events on my summer calendar already this is on my list. It looks like a versatile dress that could be dressed up or down so easily.

I also like the Liberty floral daze perfect shirt 25913 but there's too much yellow for my complexion. If it came in cool tones I'd be all over it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. xoxo,

I like all the items you listed as well. However, I guess I have similar pieces already in my wardrobe or am not WOWED with any of the color choices on the ones I really do like.

I am a fan of the perfect shirt as well. I like the new one but would wait for a sale as I am in LIKE not LOVE;)

    ReplyDelete
  30. The bay stripe one that is...not a fan of the liberty print one due to the yellow undertones...

  32. I also like the Seraphina gown but don't have enough occasions to wear it to justify $275.

Everything else very unappealing--washed out colors, ratty-looking fabrics, too casual, too short, unflattering large horizontal ruffles. Some of the dresses I would buy if they added at least another 5" to the inseam. They seem to only want to design for 16 yr-old nymphs these days.

I guess I will be looking forward to the next Ann Taylor roll out instead.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like the Candy Wrapper dress, but for that price imma stick with Alice + Olivia or DVF. But that's just me. I think J Crew's having a price point vanity crisis.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I echo the same sentiment here...way too many recycled tees and cardigans. I am staying away from short skirts and dresses. I wish they are a tad longer that are knee-length or close to it but not mid-thigh.

I like Ink blossom pencil skirt but how many pencil skirts can a gal wear? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am really liking Talbots new catalog:)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Genny, I have purchased almost every perfect shirt and yet I still want more. I wear them a lot and not just for work so adding a fresh look is always fun. I'm fair and burn easily so I often wear them over a tank, halter or swimsuit in the summer, even when it's really hot. I am truly "addicted" to the perfect shirts. And pencil skirts too but to lesser degree.

Most of what I buy from J.Crew is pretty basic, vanilla stuff. I'm not interested in their embellished tees or all the ruffley and lately, studded/grommet stuff (horrors!). They do the basics that I like very well and I keep coming back specifically for that because I wear them so often they do eventually wear out. And I often give used things to my starving student sister too.

When I want something a little more interesting I usually shop smaller boutiques. Yesterday I bought a really cute jersey dress by Velvet and a couple of beautiful cardigans by Kersch, which is a Canadian brand (www.kersch.ca). I have other items from these brands and they are excellent quality. The cardis were only $58 CDN too. Sure beats $62 USD with a 1.05 exchange rate, duty, taxes and shipping for a basic Jackie from J.Crew.

I think a lot of people here look to J.Crew for the majority of their wardrobe so likely would have some of the same in their closet already. For those loyal customers J.Crew should come up with more innovative creations to keep them interested and shopping, which doesn't sound like the case with this rollout.

    Sorry for the long post.

  37. While I didn't see anything worth buying, I did like the striped boatneck (but that's been around for months now).

I also saw some silk camis on sale for $30 (the more "popular" colors are $45). Does anyone know if these fit TTS around the bust area?

Also, the Surf Blossom Shell is now $70 instead of $90. I've kinda had my eye on this one for a while now--does anyone have IRL reviews for this?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Xoxo,

Thanks for the reply. The great basics is what brought me to JCrew many many years ago.

I agree with your comments on the perfect shirt. the sleeve length is perfect for me as well as the overall fit but I always had issues with shirt sleeves and love the JCrew ones. I even bought two that were on super sale and keep one for good and one to wear over swimsuits/to the beach, etc. (too funny you wear them the same)

Also, I have a younger (poor) sis who just got her PhD. and I buy her new JCrew as well as give her new JCrew as gifts or my hand me downs:0

  39. My wishlist is quite short. From this rollout I like Gallery-stripe Marlie shell item 27816 and racerback dress item 27241. I like the Indigo-stripe Schuyler dress item 26546 but I think it is too short, even shorter that solid Schuyler dress. I actually like a little shorter skirts and dresses, but they do have to fall between the knee and mid-tight not between mid-tight and underwear. From the previous roll out I like Castillio Eyelet cami, Oak Tweed pencil skirt and Crinkled chiffon surf blossom dress. I don't like the prices, so I wait for sale. My closet, like probably most on this blog, is full so I almost never buy FP. I also try not to buy what other designers do better or/and cheaper, like shoes, bags, jeans, jewerly and t-shirts. I'll stick with pencil skirts, blazers, merino sweaters in interesting colors, swimwear, selected dresses and, last but not least, belts (yes, I must own at least 25 JC belts, I love them). As long as I wait for sales and buy what JC does the best I seem to accumulate coordinated, well made wardrobe at very decent prices. It is the idea of buying the lifestyle (read buying EVERYTHING JC without looking anywhere else) that leaves us with disappointing mistakes, at least in my case.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I forgot to add perfect shirts to made well by JC list. I do love them and own most of them. Plus shorts. For some reason they fit me better than other retailers even if pants don't.

    ReplyDelete
  41. All this talk of J.Crew favorites makes me wish I had a job so I could stock up on J.Crew pencil skirts, blazers and blouses! Can't really justify that now as they will just sit in my closet unworn, and of course by the time I do find a job there will be new items I want. :/

    ReplyDelete
  42. Many of the dresses and skirts are beautiful, but since most of us don't buy many dresses that we cant wear to work, it's definitely only going to appeal to a younger market. which brings me to my next point- is jcrew phasing away from the 40's and over crowd? Many of their items would suggest they are aiming for wealthy, younger women who will wear short skirts/dresses and have a reason to buy party dresses.
As for all the ruffles and tees, they must be very popular with the general public, otherwise they wouldn't be a mainstay of every new rollout.
I think that although it would seem to many of us that Jenna's designs are repetitive and poorly thought out, Jcrew is making a killing compared to most retailers. Therefore, while it sucks for us, I think that Jenna is hitting her intended mark and she continues to get bonuses because she is making the company a lot of money.
What I dont understand is why there are not more mainstream summer items, like linen shirts and brightly colored options- that would be popular with everyone

  43. I recently bought the wildflower bikini with french top. It was cute but the french top did not offer enough support for me so I had to pass and return it. I placed an order today for two bikinis with the glamour top which seems to have a nice cut and good support. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm also hoping that come August they'll have a new pretty silk top like the Victoria and/or Frances of past years. I have 3 each of these and I still love them. Its been a while since I have bought a silk top from J.Crew...not much has impressed me since.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Speaking of J.Crew freebies: there is a secretary in our office whose son's classmate's father is a driver for Mickey Drexler on Long Island. (He used be Robert De Niro's driver but quitted.) His [teenage] kids all get free J.Crew clothing and wear them for school!

    ReplyDelete
  46. OT, but how does the waitlisting process work? I am waitlisted for a Silk Frances Cami. It appeared to be in stock when I placed my order and I only found out it was waitlisted after the fact. Any hope that I will one day actually own the item?

  48. jack, i think you are on to something. JC is probably afraid to follow in tracks with the companies that did cater to their existing customer base that is of course getting older as the time passes. I think this was the case of Talbots, LLBean, Lands End and even Ann Taylor. After your customer base gets older it is hard to change your image and appeal to younger set (as we can witness with the above companies). On the other hand, I definitely have more money to spend now than in my twenties. If I was my younger 20-ish self I would shop at retailer like Urban Outfitters and LOFT, not J Crew. I guess it is not as easy as it seems to come up with more fashion forward stuff without alienating your loyal customers.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I agree with everyone about the skirt lengths! And, GlobeTrotter, I agree with you about the Frances/Victoria shirts; I LOVE them.

Also, like Kristin, I'd LOVE to know about the fit of the Poplin Boardwalk jacket!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I like the matte jersey dress and the linen ombre sweater. A few other things are interesting and may grow on me if I see positive IRL reviews but first impression is just meh. How JCrew is making buckets of money with this stuff is beyond me.

XOXO - I love kersch!! It's like Anthro but a little more sexy than pretty if that makes sense and the prices are really good for the quality, which is excellent IMHO.

OT - received my madras pants and shirt from the last rollout today and the pants are going back. They would have looked so much nicer without those goofy zippers on the pockets. The shirt is a keeper though. Soft and comfy and the colors are flattering for me. Will be wearing this one a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I really like the silk motorcycle jacket but will wait for it to go on sale (which should be in about two weeks right?!).

    ReplyDelete
  52. I see a few things I like. I'm with Desert Flower -- I love the Liberty prints but I have a hard time with the price.

Not a new release, but can anyone comment on the Cotton and chiffon tuxedo ruffle cardigan? This is my first time noticing it and I'm kind of smitten.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Off topic: has anyone had problems with the leather capri sandals? I have purchased them each summer for a number of years and the strings in them always come out and cut my feet. Bc I love them, I always get them again each summer and just suck it up. But I am starting to get sick of spending 50 bucks on sandals that can't make it through the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Lisa, sounds like it's time to try Bernardo or a more reputable brand. I haven't had a problem with the straps coming loose on my sandals, but I am disappointed in how the metallic finish has worn off the footbed in mine.

    ReplyDelete
  55. ITA with Hexicon about the metallic finish on the footbed. I bought both the silver and gold metallic capris. I've only worn them each a couple of times, and they look like the shoes I wear to take the dog out into the yard, they are so shabby now. And $50 a pop, that is totally unacceptable.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Website is down. What are the odds? Um, pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Its not that the straps actually come off/out of the base. If you look underneath the straps (the part that touches the top of your foot), there is a seam that opens up and the strings that make up the straps comes out. Its as if the metallic leather of the flip flops are glued together and it dissolves.

    ReplyDelete
  58. CaptainCrew, I think I know what you mean about Kersch and I totally agree! Too bad you didn't find the madras pants to your liking. I love mine. They made me look a bit curvier, which is nice, and they were so comfortable that I just had to keep them.

    ReplyDelete
  59. xoxo,

I went to the Kersh website and loved some of their items. But how/where can I buy it online? Their website doesn't seem to have a Shop section.. do you order by phone or do you go to a retail boutique that sells Kersh?

    ReplyDelete
  60. hmmm--I'm way over 40 and only turned on to JC in the last year or so when I got tired of paying OTT designer prices. I can try new trends without the remorse if I don't like them. I mostly go for the basics tho--shirts, cargos, cashmere, tanks, a few collection pieces. I am a new convert and feel they have made shopping fun again. I work for myself though so don't have office appropriate worries. Maybe you should campaign for "tall" versions of the skirts you like.
