J.Crew Email: Just In... Crewcuts New Fall Styles

J.Crew sent an email announcing new Crewcuts style in their stores and online. Seriously, how cute are those kids in that picture!?! Especially that couple to the right smooching and laughing- just adorable!!!

There is also a limited promotion that offers 20% off your entire in-store purchase if you apply for a J.Crew Credit Card. Normally, customers receive 10% off the first purchase when opening a J.Crew Credit Card. (Click here to see J.Crew's "perks" of being a credit card member.) This offer expires 9/1/08.

Are you going to take advantage of the limited-time-20%-off-credit-card offer? Are you planning to stop by a Crewcuts to see what new styles they have? Would you like some of the Crewcuts offerings to come in "adult" size as well (I know I do!)?

  1. Where are the JCrew Factory Outlet Stores?!

  2. I would completely do crewcuts styling if they offered it to adults! I think they are fun, novel, and beautiful.

However, that being said, I have only bought a handful of crewcut clothing for my kids (aged 4 and 6). The clothing tends to run small and it's waaaaay overpriced, IMHO. I also don't buy in to the philosophy that my DD should have a coat that costs more than mine LOL! The fabrics, while beautiful, just aren't kid-friendly enough in my opinion. I need durable, tough stuff -

  3. maureen: you can find it on the store locator page on the jcrew website

  4. I love the girls' crewcuts items. I have bought many items for my niece (on sale, of course) as has my sister. While I do feel they are overpriced for someone who is only going to get 1 year of wear out of them, they are cute, look like kids' clothing (instead of like a kid dressing up as an adult!), and don't look like what you find everywhere. That said, the boys' items look like items you could buy at the gap. I do shop for my nephew, but only sale items. I watch for the girls' things to go on sale; with the boys', I'm not really waiting for lots to go on sale - just the gray sweater vest.

I will be in a b&m on Monday and I will be checking out the womens and the girls.

  5. I agree with what Audrey says: it seems a little disconcerting that some of their clothes are more expensive than what I would pay for myself!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Audrey: I totally agree with you that crewcuts styling is fun, novel and beautiful. I would love to see some of the designs in my size (including the ballet flats!) :)

Math Teacher & Audrey: I do agree with you that Crewcuts seem overpriced- especially since kids grow so quickly. But I think Crewcuts are great for dressing up on special occasions. :)

  7. Alexis - just thought you might want to know... the other J. Crew blog has registered the www.jcrewaficionada.com domain (although the blog itself is called "JCrewaholics"). This seems a bit deceptive to me - you might want to have a chat with the owner of the other blog.

  8. I think the clothes are darling when I quickly scan the catalog but I don't even think of going there as I agree with others--the prices are too high for my blood. I cannot pay the same for my kids as myself--on sale might be a different story but I am selfishly running to the women's section whenever I learn of a sale:) My kids are not going without by NO means--just buying at Gap sales, Boden on sale etc.

  9. I wanted to add that, similar to the adult sale items, the kid stuff, when on sale isn't a complete over-the-top bargain. 30% off something pricey is still a little pricey (well, for kids, right? ;)). Now, when they have the additional percentage off on sale items, that's when I look - but generally, the stock has been picked through. I would *really* have to love the item and stalk it to even consider purchasing on standard sale.

I do get great styling ideas from crewcuts and I imagine other retailers look to them for some cutting edge ideas!

olivejuicekids.com and boden offer 40-50% off their end of season styles. A slightly better deal in my book. And I guess I am spoiled because I live near a Hanna Andersson outlet :)!

  10. My daughter wears a lot of JCrew/Crewcuts. The fit is perfect for her--tops and bottoms--and we both love the adjustable waists...at age 7 her waist is so tiny and JCrew's items are awesome.

That said, I buy everything for her onsale...sometimes for less than full priced Target clothes...

We love the critter pants, merino cardigans, and cotton cardigans, and cute little purses with critters. She has 3 pair of wellies and people stop her all the time here in the UK and comment on her cute boots and want to know where we got them....

LOVE JCrew...she is as addicted as I am...she knows how to log on and add things to her shopping bag as well and loves to click on the various colors.

BUT I do think JCrew needs to "watch it" on price increases in the Crewcuts line...if they keep marking them up we will have to return to our old stores b/c like someone said, I can't spend the same amount on kids clothes that I do on myself! That just doesn't make sense when they outgrow things quickly.

  11. I think the crewcuts clothes are adorable, but man, unless I was the head of the Von Trapp family and thus had many, many children who could keep wearing these clothes again and again, I'd never plunk down the prices Jcrew wants for some of these clothes :-)

    ReplyDelete
  12. P.S. we got the wellies on sale for under $15....

    ReplyDelete
  13. Surfside: Unfortunately I am aware that. I am not sure of the reasoning behind that either. :(

  14. I love Crewcuts and do agree that at regular price they are too expensive to buy for a finicky and rowdy 3year old boy. My crewcuts purchases are usually done when they are on sale (as are most of my JCrew purchases in general). I love the ties, jackets, buttondowns from there for my boys. The pants seem to run too wide for my stringbean though. He loves the clothes too and often is looking for a "collared shirt" to wear one of his ties with (he gets to choose between his long ties and bow ties). He often gets compliments on his ties since he wears them whenever there is a special occasion. He even wore one to a friends 4 year birthday party.
With all of that in mind, the boys clothes this round are relatively drab and grandpa-ish. I would love to see some of the bright colors in the girls collection in the boys clothes.
I absolutely love that my little dude looks like his papa when he wears his JCrew.

  15. I just saw that post about the JCrewaholics site... What is that about?

    ReplyDelete
  16. audrey: my sister would be so jealous of your location. She loves Hannah Anderson!

mic5: If you hit JC at the right time, then their crewcuts sales are just as good as Boden sales. It's hard to beat Gap, though. We tend to buy more for my niece since she's older and might get 3 seasons out of an item, ie buy for spring, then wear for fall and the next spring. We've scored some really good deals, but you have to be willing to wait. We buy a lot for next year, instead of the present year.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah ... I think it's weird that they would register jcrewaficionada.com and point it to their site. Seems sneaky and unfair, since people looking for this blog might end up there instead. To be fair, they also registered jcrewaholics.com.

Also, it seems like you guys talk about a lot of the same topics ...

    ReplyDelete
  18. la belle helene: According to my sister, Crewcuts sells well on ebay. She justifies paying a little more for kids clothes by thinking about their resale value.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sorry guys, this is a little off topic, but does anyone own the chateau cardigan from last year? Can you advise on sizing? Thanks in advance :-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Did anyone see the promo code in the latest catalog--offered as compensation for website problems? I accidentally threw my catalog out without making note of what the code was! Many thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hi Meg! Depending on which catalog you received, you could have received one of two codes:

FALL (15% off full priced items; expires 9.5.08)

    SRK-90 (free shipping on $150+; expires 9.6.08)

    ReplyDelete
  22. The Crewcuts Girls clothes are absolutely adorable, but since I have boys, I rarely shop Crewcuts. The boys' line is rather boring, and I find much better deals at GAP and TCP...I have bought a couple of Crewcuts items on sale, but would never pay full price.

As for the J.Crew Credit Card...even the 20% won't get me to open one...not enough benefits, IMO. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. FFM: I have to agree with you that the 20% offer to open a J.Crew credit card doesn't seem worth it. Especially after reading the lack of benefits the card holders receive throughout this blog. Hopefully J.Crew would offer something a bit more substantial- like 10% off each order using their credit card or free shipping on any order using their credit card. Now those would be great benefits! :)

  24. alexis- what can you do to shut down that site? seems like it's a bite off of the original!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Danelle: I agree with you. :) However, legally there is nothing I can do. I also really don't want to start or engage in a blog war (even though I really do love this blog & its members and am saddened that a third party is benefiting from this blog's success via misrepresentation). ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. i think it sucks though. i enjoy reading this blog a alot! did you try talking to her?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Danelle: I did send an email just asking about the registration of the site and unfortunately received no reply.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Quick question: has anybody ordered any of the items from the sale site that have not picture? More specifically, the items from last season that are now showing up? I'm not sure if they actually exist or if they are just a glitch...

    ReplyDelete
  29. KatherineD: I haven't ordered those items. However, if I did find an item that I wanted, I would actually order it but knowing I might not receive it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. KatherineD - I am so happy you are on tonight! My Bristol sweater is on the way and will be here Tuesday. All thanks to you. It was available and the cancellation was part of the glitch. So - A) You are brilliant B) I have ordered two otems that did not have a picture and are supposedly on their way.

  31. Shouldn't we welcome more blogs on the same topics?

Many outlets cover the same topics. I read about J.Crew all over the internet.

I recently got married last year and I was desperate for a J.Crew wedding dress. I sought it out everywhere and found that many online blogging communities were writing about it. It helped me to feel less desperation and that I was not alone.

I think it's great to have many blogs about J.Crew. It shows that the retailer has a loyal customer base.

We wouldn't expect CNN to shut down and not report on a news story just because MSNBC already did.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sorry, just have to add my two cents even though it is OT.

It is nice to have many blogs on the same topic...as long as the blogs are original ideas, not copies of someone elses original ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ok i know this is a little OT, but today when I went to my jcrew i found the deep atlantic belle skirt and got it for $36 with the bonus 40% off.

Also, when I told to the SA about my recently cancelled orders, she handed me a coupon and said that they've been told to give everyone a coupon who has had complaints about the website. Unfortunatley, the coupon seems to be expired ( as of 8/14/08. Do you think that they will honor the coupon? It is an instore only coupon for 20% off my next instore purchse...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Heather: I totally agree. There are a lot of celebrity gossip blogs, and I read a few of them, because I enjoy each person's take on it, even though they may all cover the same story.

The same goes for J. Crew blogs. The first one I found was Corey Irwin's J. Crew Aholics 'R Us, which was very thoughtful and well-written, and I was sad to see it taper off a few months ago. Through that blog I discovered Leigh's J. Crew Aholics, and then finally, J. Crew Aficionadas.

Each blog has a different perspective to offer, and I enjoy reading them all. While I do agree that it is a *tad* suspect of the j.crew aficionada.com domain being bought up and leading to jcrewaholics, I do think that it some ways it can be considered a form of flattery, since the author is hoping to attract some Aficionadas, since the blog has a loyal fanbase. Obviously if you were already typing in "jcrewaficionada"into your browser, you were already aware of this blog, so it's not like you are being led away. You just would re-typed in the correct web address and have been on your merry little way.

Anyway, I hope I haven't offended you, Alexis, or anyone else reading this blog. I just think that there is room for everyone; after all, it is a free country! I hope for peace among all of those who enjoy the Crew. And as someone completely obsessed with it, I enjoy reading about it from all angles.

    ReplyDelete
  35. jenn_brak: I'm so happy for you! Wow, I can't believe it actually worked and that your sweater is coming! Now I HAVE to stalk my items again and add them to the cart =)

    ReplyDelete
  36. What is the address of the site?

And I definitely agree with. Anonymous at 1010 about the original ideas.

I noticed that both blogs write about the emails that J.Crew sends out. That is neither of the blogs' original ideas. Both authors are simply reporting on emails.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Totally agree that the more blogs about our obsession the better! However, scooping up a domain name and forwarding it to try and undermine people looking for this very popular blog is just..slimy imho. Really turns me off the other blog.
OT- has anyone seen the Kelly green ruffle henley irl? I'm wondering if the online pic is true or if it is a deeper green.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Shannee: I have the henley in green, and it looks pretty true to what it looks like on the website; maybe a tad darker. Just a really rich, pretty kelly green.

    August 30th, 2008 at 7:21 pm

PS- I hope it’s ok that I replied to this post as a J.Crew reseller. I did that on another site and got rather unfavorable responses…:( Unfortunately, resellers are looked down upon to some, which is understandable."

I guess he/she was talking about this site! They got an unfavorable response because he/she is trying to rip people off!! $350.00 for something that originally cost $275.00?? That is just plain wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous at 10:11 PM: First, I can't believe J.Crew distributed an expired coupon! :( Second, I would still use it and explain that you were given the coupon today. For the most part, J.Crew store associates are accommodating.

Jenn_Brak: Congrats on the bristol sweater!!! :) That is fantastic news.

  41. Who cares? We all SLAMMED him/her. She has high prices. She has good stuff. Choose to buy or not buy. Anon, don't stir the pot, TROLL. We've already been down this road before. If we have nothing nice to say, we shouldn't say anything at all. Most importantly, don't start a blog war with the other site. Alexis, are you with me on this one?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Crewcuts is so cute. I'm a 0/2. I'm going to see if one day I can squeeze into the XXXL... :P

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anon @11:16: you calling that other anonymous person a troll is like a pot calling the kettle black. :-) Just sayin'...I mean, until you choose to be un-anonymous!

    ReplyDelete
  44. ashley, sorry, my name is sandra. i haven't done the google email thing, so apologies on the anon name. i don't troll, i just follow this site and do recall us roasted the hell out of him/her, which is the opinion of this blog. but we do monitor her stuff and discuss the new items she has up (and drool, like me), so unless we'd like to write to her to stop listing the new items, it's not really a good idea to continue slamming him/her. right?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sandra: No prob; although I do think that seller gets rightly slammed because he/she sells items that are *currently* available (aka, not sold out) at a ridiculous markup. Although, if a person is dumb or lazy enough to pay that much, I guess that's their problem!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I try to buy stuff on sale for my daughter. At full price they are out of my range. Since kids outgrow clothes in about a year, everything ends up at goodwill. But with sales and additional discounts they are good deals.

Love their sweaters and jackets for girls. I find their shoes dont have good support for growing feet.

I wish they made some of the sweater coats in adult sizes...they are very cute.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ashley, I saw her blog response too. Looks like she sells internationally (not dumb or lazy). I too got annoyed with her about an item that was in stock from jcrew.com, she told me not to buy from her and to go to the internet instead. I guess he/she isn't that stupid, and does the right thing. But to us, we know how much things cost and we can get them cheaper than what he/she has listed! (And we have coupon codes too :P)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous @ 10:11 pm
I also got the 20% off coupon recently from the store and because of this great blog :) I was aware of it and checked the expiration date. I mentioned it to the sales associate and she extended it for me and signed her name. So, it was probably an oversight- go back to the store and tell them what happened. I am sure they will honor it. Bring your receipt for your skirt just in case to prove you were there today. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I was in the store with one of those coupons (expired). I think as long as the internet problems persists, they wil be honoring those coupons.

  50. Did everyone realize there is a Crewcuts Collection of high end items? There is a girls houndstooth coat for only $348...sounds like a deal to me:)

  51. Anonymous at 10:28 AM: I didn't know that- I will definitely have to check that out now! :)

  52. Anonymous at 10:28 AM: I made the Crewcuts collection its own post (Crewcuts Collection: Is It For Your Kids?). Thanks for pointing that out to me! :)
