I have to admit, I love the look of J.Crew's high-heel flare jean. I just adore the long silhouette of the flared leg. Of course, (as the title description of these jeans reveals,) they are to be worn with "heels, day or night" and that's something I don't regularly do. (I am more of a "flats" kind of girl.) ;) Nevertheless, if I see these jeans in the store I will definitely try them on (in hopes of purchasing them)!
There are also three versions of this jean:
- High-heel flare jean in clean indigo wash (Item 97106; $98.00)
- High-heel flare jean in faded blue wash (Item 97032; $108.00)
- High-heel flare jean in indigo wash (Item 96949; $120.00)
Hi Alexis: I actually did get this email yesterday...I saw the jeans in the store, but didn't try them on...maybe next time, though. I still tend to gravitate toward the trouser style of denim and pants in general, but who knows...maybe these WOULD work. ;)
ReplyDeleteFabulousFloridaMommy: Thanks for letting me know that you got the email. I hope I get the email soon (to confirm that I am still on their "list".)
ReplyDeleteI really like jeans because it looks like they would make one look taller and leaner. But of course with jeans, I always need to try them on first. :)
I like them. Is it just me, or do they look a little high-waisted? I don't mind that actually.
ReplyDeleteAlexis, do you ever post about the J Crew models? The model in this ad is one of my faves - she crops up in Boden from time to time too. I think her name is Anouk. The other model that does both Boden and J Crew is Vanessa - the blonde who was featured in the Morocco shoot this summer. I'm always curious as to how old they are. I'm sure they're in their 20s....
I tried these on and wasn't impressed. I expected the fit to be flattering, but it really wasn't on me. The jeans seemed to "add bulk" in the thighs.
ReplyDeleteI tried these jeans on last week and thought that they were great! I'm a heels-most-days-of-the-week girl and they definitely elongate the leg. However, I will probably not pay full price for them, as I only end up wearing jeans maybe once a week. Will definitely keep an eye on them though.
ReplyDeleteIn a similar vein - with JC trouser jeans, has anybody had trouble with color transfer? I got the heavier weight trouser jeans last fall in "dark antique wash", and after washing them several times, they still turn my hands blue! It's incredibly frustrating to not be able to wear them - granted, I could wear a dark colored top, but Smurf-colored hands are a different story!
molly, good call - I was thinking about the models the other day when I was flipping through the Boden catalog. That Anouk looks much skinnier now than say, the early 2007 catalogs.
Re; the models. And Anouk got her hair CHOPPED! in the newest Bofden catalog and last year's JC Holiday catalog, she had long hair (I remember b/c I brought a picture of her to my hair stylist b/c I wanted her bangs style!)Now her hair is really bob like and short. Looks cute though.
ReplyDeleteI think Vanessa is beautiful. Her skin is always this really pretty color and her cheeks are always flushed "just so".
The red haired model is pretty also.
BGD
The red haired model is on the site a lot but not in the catalog so often, right? She is pretty. They're all pretty! I read that Mickey hand picks them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about Vanessa's skin. She's really really lovely.
Hi All!
ReplyDeleteI as usual did not get the e-mail. Though I am not a fan of the high-heel flare jean. Any jean that actually makes my leg look shorter if I don't wear heels with it I am not a fan of. I like a straighter or boot-cut fit so I am not really a fan of the trouser jeans. I know tons of people are but its just not my personal style.
Very OT- Sorry I have been MIA for a few days there has been a mini life crisis. I will resume working on the letter soon and if anyone else would like to submit something (remember this letter is not to complain about the website-- they have enough complaints about that-- this is to help make jcrew more customer friendly and help them streamline their policies). Feel free to e-mail me @ blumre1@gmail.com. To everyone who has already submitted I'll be in touch soon. Thanks so much for all your help.
i ordered these jeans online and got them yesterday. i decided immediately to send them back! they are higher-waisted than i normally like, and something about them made my butt look enormous. the material is also very stiff and thick, and the color too dark. i bought some of the new "bell" jeans at Gap after that and am in love! they are lower-rise and have the same sort of flare as the jcrew, but the material is so much lighter and the fit more flattering.
ReplyDeleteblumre: Is everything ok now?
ReplyDeletebdg: Re hairstyles: I have done that for events! I love the way Jcrew models wear their hair! I can never get my own hair to style that way and look so messy chic and their hair is always perfect. So one day I decided I wanted to look that way so I went to my hair stylist and said "see this? can you?" She looked at me like I had three heads but she is amazing and did it... I only wish I could do that myself.
ReplyDeleteFFM: Awww thanks for the concern. Not Ok yet, but I am confident it will be. :) Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI bought the jean a few weeks ago and love them. They aren't really that high waisted, they still sit under my belly button. I had them hemmed so that they can be worn with flats or a small heel. (since I chase my kids all day!) I think they look great and I like the quality of the denim as opposed to the denim they have used in the past.
ReplyDeleteBlumre: I hope everything is okay!
blumre-yes, I am always bringing pictures of models to my stylist- it always looks great when I leave the salon and then I can never do it the same way at home. I have also since decided I HATE having bangs so I will never go that route again. Having hair hang in my eyes all day while chasing 3 boys is NOT fun.
ReplyDeleteAs for the high Heel flare, I will probably not get them-I went on a jean spree last winer and spent WAYY too much on designer denim-7's, true religions, william rasts (My all time favorite-anyone else have these??) and I just got a pair of Jcrew matchsticks on ebay. I am at my denim limit!!
BGD
I got a great pair of jeans from BR in spring that flare. I love them and I think one pair is enough for my wardrobe. However, I should try these out of curiosity. I didn't when I was in the store because I assumed they didn't carry a short and I really need short or petite to see the true fit.
ReplyDeleteBlumre - I was thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you are. I hope things straighten out soon. :-)
gigiofca- Thanks so much. I have your e-mail and I promise to reply soon. You are awesome for helping us out with this letter and your suggestions were really good.
ReplyDeleteMolly: I haven't posted about the J.Crew models- but I definitely will. :) I will find more about Anouk, Vanessa and the others. I often see some of the same models in other catalogs and wonder about them too. :)
ReplyDeleteI know one of the regular summer models is Mallory Snyder (because I use to watch her on Real World: Paris!) ;)
Tammylee & Melissa & HDayton: Thanks for sharing your review! This is a good reminder that when it comes to jeans, I always need to try them on first. (It can look good in the catalog or on someone else, but maybe not so much on me!) :)
Silver_Lining: I know what you mean about those jeans- I have the same pair as you do. I am very careful about washing them but they still can rub off the "blue". :)
Blumre: Hopefully everything with you is okay and the mini-life crisis will be resolved soon. :) Take care of yourself!!! :)
Alexis: Thanks! How did you move go? Still have all ten fingers and all ten toes? I hope nothing got dropped on you!!! That always happens to me when I move!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the concern, everything will be fine. I appreciate this community's support so much. Really you make this a great distraction from work and a fun place to be. Thank you!
blumre: First and foremost I hope that your "mini crisis" ends and all is well again. (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteFFM, alexis: I got the email about J Crew's jeans, but I also got an email stating that my GAP Essential jeans are on their way...sooooo...I am really excited!!
alexis: I think that was a very nice response from Mickey and I applaude you (and others) who wrote to him (I am very shy)...you are my heros! :) I am thrilled that he reads this blog as well. As someone who spends GIGANTIC amounts on J Crew clothing and accessories I like that he is keeping up with our comments (which, for the most part, are very positive concerning him personally).
FFM: I am still in a quandry over what to do about the Andrea jacket. I keep looking at the model and the sleeves are def bracelet length...on me it just looks like I have super long arms and the sleeves are too short. I really do hate to pay that much for a jacket that I have to turn right around and have altered. I do sooooo love the color, however!!
My favorite J Crew model is Hye Park. She is around 23, but she looks very sophisticated in their clothing. When she wears an outfit it looks like it will work for women of ALL ages, and I really like that! :)
Blumre - Thank you for feedback on my email. You are a doll to write the letter. Remember to take care of yourself first. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAll - I added a cashmere tee and linen ruffle dress in the swap exchange, 8/4. I don't know how to put a direct link to it in my post.
Blumre: I can't believe you remember my move when you have your own concerns. You are the best! :) My move went well- but I was exhausted afterwards. Luckily for me, I didn't have to move any of the heavy furniture (my husband and brother did!) ;)
ReplyDeleteJCrewJunkie: Thanks for nice comment. I am also happy that he reads our concerns. :) (P.S. I tend to favor GAP trouser jeans over J.Crew jeans as well. ;) They tend to sit better on me.)
Gigiofca: If you are interested in putting links into comments, you may want to check out this site which will show you how: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_links.asp
Hye Park - I googled her and I recognize her from the spring spicy mustard/silver/white catalog. Very very pretty.
ReplyDeleteBlumre--hope all will be OK soon.
ReplyDeleteIf there are concerns that these pants are too high-waisted then I'd better order a pair! (If web customers ever get a coupon!)
I am so ready for waists to come back up! I have short little legs and a small waist so low-slung pants are terribly unflattering on me.
And heh, I don't even know who the models are--they're all so young I get depressed just thinking about it. One, who's not in the fall catalog but was in the spring/summer, looks just like a friend of mine.
Hexicon, I'm no spring chicken!
ReplyDeleteThey used some older folks in the Paris catalog and in the mid-century modern catalog earlier this year. But they were props, LOL
I am not sure what color is available at my local B&M store, but I was not crazy about the color - I thought they looked very disco, retro and not in a good way.
ReplyDeleteI also need a longer inseam so the regular length at the B&M would not cut it with heels.
The model name is spelled Anouck. Lately, I have been surprised the high caliber of models that have been in the catalogs. Many of them have been in haute couture shows, like Chanel, etc.
ReplyDeletep.s. Hope everything get better
blumre!
eh, I don't really care for the flare... I think I'm too short for them to be flattering. I tend to stick with bootcut or a straight, slightly skinny, leg.
ReplyDeleteThe waist seems higher on these, too. I'll do a higher waist on a skirt, but not on pants or shorts.
anon @11:47: It looks like the blue from Wrangler Jeans...do you remember them?
ReplyDeleteMolly, "props," LOL. What I really hate is when they have a 42 yr old "older" model who's obviously supposed to be the "mother" of the 25 yr old model.
ReplyDeleteRe color transfer, yikes, that's scary. I see there is a warning on some of the washes but not others.
I tried the jeans on when I went to check out the new fall merchandise a couple of weeks ago. I agree with tammylee that the jeans "add bulk in the thighs." They did have a long lean look overall, but for me, they were really uncomfortable around the butt and upper thighs. This might also be because I'm bottom-heavy, so I have to watch out for jeans that are tight around the thighs to begin with. Personally, I liked the 5 pocket trouser jeans a lot better even though I usually wear skinny jeans. I figure the trouser jeans will be a nice change to my wardrobe. I haven't gotten a shipping confirmation yet, but hopefully, they don't get lost.
ReplyDeletealy: I like the 5-pocket trouser jeans too - comfy and more flattering.
ReplyDeleteIt was my intention to try these on this morning and I completely forgot! Hopefully, next time I'm in there, I'll remember (I should probably make a list :P)
ReplyDeleteI guess the Paris catalog was actually last year. I can see it in Alexis' avatar. When was Mid-Century Modern - was that this year? Things blend in.
ReplyDeleteI know some of you have said you collect the catalogs. I wish I had thought of this! I tend to throw them away hoping I won't order. I see now that nothing will stop me. LOL
Would someone be willing to post maybe the topic and cover picture for all the catalogs since Jan 2007? It would be fun to reminisce about our favorite styles.
molly,
ReplyDeleteneutra's kaufmann house was late spring. I remember it b/c my bf got the catalogue before me (right before I moved in) and of course, being an architect, he mentions the house... I was like, "but what about the clothes?!"
Heather, thank you for the tip! I was able to google some images and information. :-)

What happened to my tag!
ReplyDeleteLet's try that again:

Hey girls,
ReplyDeleteI believe the sizing has changed on the denim as well. Remember the old convention was that each size represented a range (ie, 27 = 0/2, 28 = 2/4, etc.), but now according to .com's size charge 27 = 2, 28 = 4, 29 = 6, and so on. All of my JC jeans are 28's (I'm typically a 2 in bottoms, sometimes 4) and found that I had to size to a 27 in the high heel flares under the new sizing. Just a heads-up!
I have a question about the Bella jacket from last year. How did it fit? I have the Prima stretch wool jacket in a 6, and the black San Telmo in a 4 which is a tad snug in the shoulders, but a 6 would have been too big. I have the Kelly jacket and Katie sweater in a small. I found a Bella I really like on eBa, but I am really confused about which size I would need :P
ReplyDeleteTwo things: I think the high-heel flare looks really cute and I look forward to trying it on in store. And this is coming from a girl who only wears "designer" jeans, such as Seven.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was just thinking yesterday about how much I love the J. Crew models. They are all so beautiful and fresh-faced. I adore Anouk's new bob! My new favorite model is the one that is on the cover of the fall catalog. Don't know what her name is. But I agree, a post about their models would be great!
I tried these on and they are super flattering and roomy enough for my...ahem..."strong" thighs. Plus J Crew thinks I'm a 4 in these! Thanks, J Crew (even though I know I'm closer to a 6)!
ReplyDeleteAshley, fresh-faced is such a good descriptor for the models! They're so beautiful, but not overly sexy or too freakish looking like some high-fashion models. As slim and perfect as they are, there is something "attainable" and inspiring about their beauty. I don't feel diminished - and I'm a solid size 14 in most J Crew stuff, plus I'm in my 40s ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe swimsuit model fascinates me the most. She has a lovely body and very cute face and is a great model for them - but as perfect as she is, she seems like a regular person! Maybe it's the (very cute) mole on her tummy :-)
Alexis: I agree! I am a flats girl myself, but these jeans intrigue me. :) I wish there was a jeans style that de-emphasized my hips. It's so hard to not look stumpier when my thighs are a size smaller than my waist and I size up to fit my waist. :)
ReplyDeleteMelanie: Stacy and Clinton would tell you to go with a nice dark rinse straight jean with a higher rise. I think these might fit that bill! You will need to buy them to fit your widest part and have the rest tailored to fit you. It may be worth checking out. Good luck!
ReplyDeletehdayton: Thanks for the heads up! I will definitely try that - is there a good starting point at our very favorite store? ;)
ReplyDeleteMelanie: Try the high rise and the trouser cut. Just make sure the waist sits about an inch below your belly button. The key is to make a straight line from the hip to the floor and pair it with a pointy toe shoe (it helps to visually lengthen the leg).
ReplyDeleteThe dark rinse is also important because if there is much fading on the thigh it will only bring attention to that area. Whiskering is okay, but stay away from fading.
Let us know how you do!
melanie: I have the same issue as you with the fit of pants...I always go up a size to fit my hips and thighs, then have them tailored to fit my waist. This really only works for one size difference...so if you need a 4 for your waist, buy the 6 to fit your hip/thigh area, and have the waist taken in.
ReplyDeletemelanie: I have the J.Crew 5 pocket trouser jeans and really like them. I think I actually prefer the GAP Essential jeans over them, though, and they are less expensive. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks hdayton and FFM! I think I have a sz. 4 waist and sz. 2 thighs. I never quite know how to fix that one. :) I will definitely have to try on the recommended jeans though. I'll let you know how it goes!
ReplyDeletemelanie: Sorry, I was mistaken...I have the opposite issue as you do with pants...I am a size 2 in the waist and a 4 in the thighs, so I buy a 4 and have the waist taken in...sorry for the confusion. :)
ReplyDeletei have had the 'blue hands' problem like some of you have mentioned, from last autumn's dark rinse jeans. i've washed mine over and over and over again, and still blue rubs off. that's a little silly, isn't it? by now the excess color should have gone away. it's annoying, but i truly love the color and fit, so...still hoping it fades some day.
ReplyDeleteand i, too, love the fresh faced models! there's never too much make-up, and the 'undone' hair is just great. i venture to say that j crew helped pioneer that look.
Do you aficionadas prefer denim with or without stretch? I don't own any J Crew denim, but I notice they have a couple of styles on the site without spandex that I might like to try. I actually prefer non-stretch denim. I think it holds its shape better.
ReplyDeletein regards to molly's request for catalog shots, you can go here:

q=intitle:J+intitle:Crew&catid=0&lcat=0
also, there is now a link at the bottom of the j crew site (third link from the left) that reads 'Browse Catalog'. here you can look through the current catalog...
i did get the email yesterday...i love the look of the jeans and love how they glammed them up with the necklace, bag, belt and shoes. i might try them for fun but unfortunately i don't wear heals that often so i won't get much use out of them since i think they look best with heels.
ReplyDeletei love all of jcrew's models. they always so natural and very pretty. i love Anouck's new bob...i'd love to even try it myself as i have only had my hair short once in my life! i also like Vanessa and i've noticed that she seems to have a few wrinkles around the eyes...so maybe she's a fellow 30 something...not sure?
blumre: great description of "messy chic" hair :) and by the way, i hope everything is OK and works out for you :)
molly: i actually prefer a little stretch to the denim. to me it seems like they tend to "bounce" back rather than getting stretched out and losing shape. :)
their pants sizing is inconsistent for me. i've had to size up and down...wierd.
oops: should read "they always *look* so natural and very pretty.
ReplyDeleteMolly: Google has some old J.Crew catalogs that are always fun to look through if you are interested: J.Crew Catalogs
ReplyDeleteMelanie: I love flats! I hate to send you elsewhere, but have you looked at GAP jeans. They are pretty good to.
I wish these came in petite!! I guess I could always get them altered in-store by showing my JC card.
ReplyDeleteI tried on all three styles at the store and none of them fit me! I was surprised and disappointed. They all fit differently!
ReplyDeleteI'm too big on bottom for J. Crew pants so I won't be getting the jeans (but I do LOVE them), but I am picking up that top (which I love even more) because that olive wins forever.
