Off On A Tangent: Banana Republic, Express & Barr-ee Station

"Thanks!" to Cass in the post "J.Crew Student Discount: Temporarily 15% Off" who let us know that Banana Republic is is offering a sweepstakes for a chance to win the grand prize of a $2,500 gift card and the daily prize of a $250 BR gift card. Even if you don't win the big prizes, as Cass points out, you still get a coupon code for 15% off a $150 purchase. The sweepstakes ends 9/3/08. For a chance to play click here.

"Thanks!" also to FabulousFloridaMommy who shared with us a coupon & code for Express that is good for 20% of your next purchase either online or in-stores. The offer is good from August 8-9, 2008. The online promo code for this discount is 5181. For the printable coupon, click here.

And another "thanks!" goes to an Anonymous member who wanted us to know about a special store in Duck, NC called "Barr-ee Station" (located at the Duck Village Waterfront Shop; 252-261-1650). According to Anonymous, it is a "catalog outlet" store that sells mostly J.Crew items (even though they are not an official part of J.Crew). They stock mainly women's items (including accessories and like jewelry and shoes), but have some men's clothes as well. What sounds great about this store is that it is not J.Crew outlet clothing they sell but their regular line- and what is currently on sale in their stores and online.

  1. The Barr-ee Station sounds interesting...too bad they don't have a website. ;)

  2. Also, The Limited will soon be opening an online store. If you sign up for emails, you will receive a coupon for $15 off a $50 purchase. I am excited because I don't have a Limited near me and typically I like their clothes.

  3. I wish Alexis would make a separate post for discussing briefly Forever 21 current items ( may be when she is back). I buy from them occasionally, BUT.. This season BLEW me off. I went there twice in a past week and spent over $200. The stuff they have there now is AMAZING.
Here are the items I have purchased with a review. I will try to keep it brief, but it's hard, so excited I am.

First isMarlyn Strapless Denim Dress , fits like glove, falls to knee, perfect in every way. My Polyvore outfit is here.
Second one is Pleated Satin Trim Top . I fell in love the moment I saw this top . It's not clearly seen, but there are delicate blue berries attached to a ribbon trim. It is very reminiscent of new J crew blue "berry" jacket, but not as overwhelming in my opinion. The fit is similar to J crew silky jersey pleated top.

Thirdly, for jewelry lovers: these 2 necklaces are so well made, I could not believe they offered them both under $8.
Gathered Flower Necklace got tons of hits on Polyvore
    Jeweled Pear Necklace
, got in both yellow and teal.

Couple of other items worth mentioning are:
Classy Satin Pencil Skirt, great fit, great look and
    Crissie Pencil Skirt
. The latter one is my absolute fave. This denim pensil skirt is FANTASTIC. Fit is out of this world. For those contemplating buying J crew pensil denim, give this skirt a try. It's only $18 and is beyond great.
I could go on and on, but I will stop at this point.

They shoud pay me for such promotion, I could not help myself. Sorry for the long post.

  4. I have been lurking for a while, I love this site! Thanks for the wonderful Crew information! I used to work at the waterfront shops and LOVED Barr E's deals! They are definitely worth a trip to the tip of the outerbanks. Also worth knowing, they have HUGE tent sales around Thanksgiving (and sometimes other holidays)A very good time to stock up. The owner is really great at looking for specific things too. They probably don't have a website because their merchandise changes so frequently, but I think if you google "waterfront shops, Duck NC" you should be able to get a phone number. Thanks Alexis for such a great forum.

  12. I'm a big of JCrew's sister co. Madewell, I thought I'd offer the information that the website has been updated with fall clothes with a that says "Gat ready! Soon you'll be able to shop Madewell online!" I hope soon is very soon. And let's all pray they do a better job than they did on the JCrew website update!

  13. Slastena: thanks for your post on forever21! I like that store also. I love to mix my "high quality" items from J crew with a few items from either Target or forever 21. Maybe the kids and I need to make a quick mall trip this a.m. We don't have a J Crew at my local mall but they do have a 21!

  14. Beth:
They are actually run a bit smaller. For instance, I found pleated satin top in M only and bought it ( S was sold out in a store), and it fits fine. With J crew silky jersey top I had to go way down to XS and if they had XXS that would have been even better.
I am normally XS-S in J crew tops and S-M in Forever 21. Skirts are S if you need 2-4 and M for 4-6. Jeans 28-30 at F21 and 27-28 at J crew. So, I would say overall F21 is more true to size then J crew.

  15. Musthavejcrew;
I really like this season at F21. I haven't bought anything from them in a past year, but now can't seem to get enough. They had a a lot of similar knits and sweaters that J crew has, but I am limiting myself to pure cotton, cotton blends items. Unfortunately, most of their sweaters are acrylic, not wool, so I am sticking with J crew for wool/cashmere blends.

I am glad you like it too. I wish they would sell kids clothes too.
