This promotion does not last long as it expires tomorrow. Makes me wonder if J.Crew will be running a constant stream of promotions between now and the end of the year.

J.Crew Online Orders Now Include Store Merchandise {say what?}

In last week's "J.Crew's Shipping Method Change {upgrade or downgr..." post, ElizabethM mentioned the following:

According to the manager at my JCF store, they are, indeed, planning to go the way of GAP brands and start shipping orders from store inventory. Not sure when it's going to start or if retail will be doing the same, but I'm not a fan either. I've had very bad luck with used and damaged items coming from GAP via this method. 

Many of you, including Firefighter Wife & WellFedFred (in this post), have already confirmed this news. Lennie (in this post), shares this:

Hi! I spoke to a customer service rep today, and she explained that when an item is sold out online, they automatically are looking for it in a store, hence the items shipping separately. The used to cancel the item and give you the option to find in store, and now they do it automatically. I think it's a great service, provided that items are not "shop worn" as someone else mentioned.

While I appreciate that J.Crew is trying to fulfill orders that they accidentally over-extended themselves on, I am not sure if this is the case. A lot of JCAs have reported that they are being sent in-store items. So it sounds like it is more like what the Gap does in terms of fulfilling orders. As I mentioned in the other post, I really had hoped that J.Crew would not go that route. I actually stopped purchasing from Gap and Banana Republic online for this very reason.

For a variety of reasons, I don't want store items shipped to me for online orders. First, I can't see the quality of the item. Items from stores have been tried on many times and while some pieces are fine, others look used (aka shop-worn). Plus, as many of you know when you do a "we will find it for you", the items are not shipped with the same care as online orders are. I just can't imagine a store associate getting 20 online orders to fulfill, taking out the time to careful inspect each piece, wrapping it up carefully, in addition to all the other store related duties they have to do.

Second, if I order multiple pieces in a single order, I do not want to track or receive them in multiple shipments. If I place one order, I would like to get it in one box. I don't want to feel like its Christmas everyday and receive a separate box for each item. Meh.

Frankly, I think J.Crew is better off just having stores send back their merchandise to the warehouse and having someone there inspect it before putting it back in stock online.

Instead, J.Crew should include a feature that allows customers to check store inventory online. This is not a new concept as Gap, Anthropologie, Nordstroms all have a little button on item pages online that lets customers see if an item is available at brick and mortar locations. This is a simple thing that can be replicated. Especially since J.Crew already has the capability to check store inventory.

First things first... Did Jenna Lyons really say "MasterPass has paved the road to easy"? Because that is a phrase I cannot picture her saying... Or at least without giggling.

Second, I am intrigued about J.Crew & MasterCard's integrated marketing campaign. Not sure what it exactly consists of, but I will be keeping an eye out for it. UPDATE: "Thanks!" to WMM (in this post)who shared with us the video above, as well as BuzzFeed's "J.Crew Is Airing Its First National Television Ad" article. The following are some tidbits worth sharing:

...The retailer, which says the video above is its first national TV ad, is running a marketing campaign with MasterPass, the digital payment platform that MasterCard introduced in February. Like other digital wallet apps, customers can store their billing and shipping information in MasterPass — whether it’s MasterCard, Visa, American Express and so on — to avoid reentering the data, in a bid to make online shopping more seamless. ...

The 30-second spot showcases J.Crew’s holiday collection — complete with square frames — through a family photo shoot. ...

It will air on network and cable TV from Nov. 4 through Dec. 8th, as well as on YouTube and Hulu.

As for MasterPass itself, it sounds like it just stores your credit information. J.Crew already stores credit card information online for a speedy checkout. So I am not clear on what are the advantages with MasterPass. If someone could explain the benefits, which I think I am missing, I would love to know.

It is nice to see that J.Crew brought back an additional percent off their sale online and in stores. It is especially nice that over 100 new items made it to the sale section. Wahoo!

As many of us have noticed and commented, we are not sure why J.Crew has not dropped prices or offered a deeper percent off Final Sale since there is *so* much merchandise (and the same kind of merchandise) just sitting around.

(It's been over 1000+ Women items for weeks now.) Plus, J.Crew finally dropped the prices on some pieces so it might be a good time to check out that piece or two you had an eye on.

Is it just me... or does J.Crew need to do a bit more to get final sale items moving? Again, very happy to see an additional percent off their sale. I am surprised to see this kind of promotion back at J.Crew. We normally do not get to see to many offers for full priced merchandise. (Well recently we have seen a bit more, but not normally.)

Although merchandise is not clearing out like it should... Makes me wonder if J.Crew will offer another additional percent off sale soon.

I am really happy to see 30% off their sale online. However, as many of you have mentioned, the brick & mortar stores were offering an additional 40% off. I am curious if stores will lower the percentage or keep it the same.

Lastly, I have to agree with so many of you that J.Crew should just offer a mega-percentage off and clear out their sale merchandise. I am kind of surprised to see how many items from previous seasons are still lingering in their Sale section (both online and stores). Just seems like J.Crew would want to move it out to make room for their new arrivals.

I am shocked to see such a high percentage off for J.Crew's sale items! On the other hand, I am not happy to see that Final Sale is back. Ugh.

It is always nice to see another promotion being offered at J.Crew! If you live near a brick & mortar store, I suggest checking them out first. J.Crew has several discrepancies between online and in store prices.

J.Crew Sale {nice update}

"Thanks!" to many of you, who let us know that J.Crew has a nice update to their Sale section online (click here) this morning. Lots of merchandise for everyone (900+ for Women and 340+ for Men). Moreover, it looks like several new pieces made it to sale along with some new price reductions. Yey!

Plus, J.Crew brick and mortar (B&M) stores are still offering an additional 30% off their Sale merchandise!!! Not sure how long this offer will run, but hopefully for the rest of the week. Plus, it means that online might be offering something similar soon too.
