Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?

Yes, it is that wonderful time again! :)

A big "thanks!" goes to yogichicki who let us know (in the "J.Crew Color Palette" post) that J.Crew is offering 15% off purchases (of regular priced items only) made with promo code FALL. This offer expires 9/5/08.

Yogichicki
& Namtaro also shared with us that J.Crew is offering Canadian shoppers free shipping on orders of $150+ with code CANADA. This offer expires 8/22/08.

Yogichicki
(in the "J.Crew Color Palette" post) & Amy (in the "J. Crew's Mickey Drexler: King Of Cool" post) also let us know about J.Crew offering free shipping on orders of $100+ with code FALLISHERE. This offer expires 8/22/08.

Also, "thanks!" to Anonymous at 7:23 AM & Blumre (in the "J.Crew Color Palette" post) who let us know that J.Crew sent an email offering free shipping on $150+ with code SHOPFALL. This offer expires 8/22/08.

  1. OT but I have to say it finally happened to me---I had an order canceled. I placed an order for the grey Bella skirt that was backordered until Sept. 30. This morning I received an e-mail stating that the order was canceled. However, it is still availaable to order online with the same backorder date. I don't understand.

And, I placed an order for the dream tie cardigan in eggplant a month ago that was supposed to be on backorder until August 11. It is still displayed as "Open/Releasable" in my order history. However, if you go to order it now it is on backorder until August 25. Guess I need to call to see what is going on.

Anthropologie does it right---if you order something that is waitlisted/backordered, they send you e-mails periodically to let you know the status. Very helpful and reassuring.

  2. I'm really glad to see they are regularly offering coupon codes, now they just need to bring back Free Ship/No Min, instead of the $100 or $150 deal.:)

  3. jacquelyn: I would call about your cancelled order, that happened to me a month ago, the item disappeared from the web and reappeared 2 weeks later , and the item is still available today. The web problems will not go away.

As for the open status who knows, my last order is still showing open and I am going to receive it today, and next week ( I think they double shipped it to me)

  4. I just tried the FALL code and got the message, "Promo code FALL entered cannot be applied for this Order. Please verify the condition for FALL"

What conditions am I not meeting? My purchase is over $400!!!

  5. Jacquelyn,
I'd lucked out during the first portion of the sale, but I had two orders screwed up recently.
The first was just a little T-shirt. After a week I called to find out why it hadn't shipped and the CSR said it had just been assigned a tracking number (which she didn't have). I waited a couple more days, e-mailed them twice, and two days after the second inquiry I received a note that due to the update they'd "skipped" my shipment. No offer to expedite or anything. It was just a T (and I'd used a free ship code) so I didn't press it.

I knew when I ordered the pink Martine at 40% off sale that it was dicey. I called and the CSR said it was cancelled due to lack of inventory but it's stil showing up as "received" and ready to ship. Couldn't they at least send an e-mail and change the status? I need to double-check that I haven't been charged.

Now, as for these codes, why didn't I get either one???? I am starting to feel like a retail leper!

  6. I didn't get any of these codes either, and I'm a "silver" card holder. *eye roll*

  7. Thanks so much for this blog! It gives me an outlet for my crazy obsession with j.crew clothing :D! I have found lots of fabulous information and you all are so wonderfully supportive of each other's "addiction".

I also tried the codes and I couldn't get free ship to work either (with over $600 in the cart). I think I give up...this reminds me of the terribly merry-go-round I put up with with Gymboree, for my children's clothes. It was a horrible cycle of buy because the quantities limited, watch daily for the price change, saving receipts/not wearing items, returning, getting some discount back and then back the beginning again. I could only play for so long before I just tired of the whole drama. My kids get clothes from boden and other smaller online stores now...

I just wish I could find something to quell my obsession with the styles. I picked up my old Harper's Bazaar and under pre-Fall styles was a Jil Sander asymmetric jacket that was the spitting image of the Lucille (jacket) - this is why I put up with all this from jcrew...they take the most fabulous stuff and make it "relaxed" looking. Why or why does their ordering have to be so difficult?! :)

  8. Has anyone tried to use the code F5X73L lately?

    ReplyDelete
  9. hex: I feel the same way! I never get any of these e-mails! I have done everything, put them in my address book, subscribed, and given my address every time I go to a b&m and still NOTHING!

btw, didn't someone mention a code "FALLISHERE"? I think they said it's for free shipping on only $100 as opposed to $150? Was that just a rumor and not valid???

    ReplyDelete
  10. The extra30 is still showing on the website. I thought it finally expired yesterday and they would take it down. Surely they were able to fix the earlier problem.

Does anyone have any updates on this sale?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I tried the F5X73L code and that one works.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I forgot to mention that I also emailed them REQUESTING to receive emails and still nothing. Not even a canned response to my email!

mom-nyc: I placed an order this morning using EXTRA30 and it worked. I just wonder if it will get canceled eventually...

    ReplyDelete
  13. EXTRA30 is *not* showing on my computer.

I checked order status for 2 orders and saw that an item had been canx in each. I recvd an email for one of them. In the email was the new total, but they should revise this. It has the new amt and says 'authorized,' which concerns me that they put through an additional authorization on top of the original. I guess I shouldn't pay for J Crew through my debit card. I had a feeling an item was canx because when I went to my checking account 2 of the authorizations had disappeared. I guess the net charge is going to go through with they ship. Oh lawdie they need to GET IT TOGETHER!

I haven't used the FALL code. Maybe it begins on a certain date? Or if you have a mix of fall & summer it's not reading the coupon? Silliness. Good luck to all with ordering and receiving.

    ReplyDelete
  14. ...noticed in another thread that the code may be FALLISHERE

    ReplyDelete
  15. FYI: For those of you out there who are teacher at schools that do not issue teacher id's. J.Crew customer service said that a school pay stub that is current and a valid photo id will suffice. 15% off is well worth keeping a pay stub in your wallet!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh, it was yogichicki that mentioned the FALLISHERE code and it is mentioned in the post...Sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ok, now the Lucille jacket is not showing up as being dicounted...wasn't this a Fall item and it's current price is the only price, right?

    ReplyDelete
  18. So many discount codes, all at once! Crazy!

Jacquelyn: That's so weird that they would cancel it, especially since it's still available online. Are you going to try re-ordering it? Makes me wonder if I'll ever receive my Jackie cardigan in honey glaze, that's backordered until Sept something too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Okay, I called CS and with regard to the Bella skirt, the order was canceled because it was out of stock; however, they can place me on a waitlist. Hrmm...I thought that was what was going to happen when I ordered the skirt and it told me it was backordered until Sept. 30? Long story short, I am now at the bottom of the waitlist, when I did place an order a while ago.

For the dream tie cardigan---they have no idea what is going on with that order. It may ship, it may not. They just don't know---I may get it or I may not---she said "it looks like it is trying to ship but we don't know". However, I can get on the waitlist for another one, at the bottom, even though I placed the original order that no one has a clue about, a month ago and I may or may not receive it.

So I placed a new order for these items. Maybe I will get them, maybe I won't. Maybe I will get the original dream tie cardigan, maybe I won't---they have no clue what is going on with it. So frustrating! I feel bad for the CS person, too.

I did order some of the tanks to wear under the cardi, and I received those weeks ago. Now if I don't get the cardi I don't want them. I guess if 90 days starts to approach and still no cardi in sight I will return them. In the meantime, they sit in my drawer.

I'm about ready to give up on J.Crew. It should not be this hard. And they should be able to see what is going on with an order. But I know I am preaching to the choir with this complaint! I can only imagione how frustrated everyone else is who placed far more messed up orders than my two.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ^^This thing about customer service saying that they have no clue just baffles me..."maybe (you'll) get it, maybe (you) won't"?!

Hmm...maybe I'll pay my credit card, maybe I won't! I don't think they would like us to operate in that same level of uncertainty!

I hope you get your items (only once, and that they bill you only once!)!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Did anyone get the pleated garden skirt (95549). I'm thinking about getting it cause it will be hot here for quite some time and I love the grey and honey glaze.

    Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was told by CS yesterday, to keep the extra items that were double shipped to me, and only billed once. What the heck! They are clueless about what is being shipped. All I can say is watch your cc statement, I agree shopping should not be this difficult,

I do feel sorry for the CS however it is not their fault.

    ReplyDelete
  23. extra30 did not work for me as of 5 mins ago. I tried to order 2 items but would not accept. For those for whom it worked...did you call it in? or place the order online?

    TIA

    ReplyDelete
  24. There are a lot of codes out there right now... I can't believe it! I wish the minimums would come down though---- actually no i dont because then I would buy and I dont need anything

    ReplyDelete
  25. I left my catalogue at home today, but I believe FALL is only valid for full price items so if you have a mix of sale and non sale it might not work. I would call that in since they should apply it to the full price items. I agree with annon at 11:31 to watch the cc. My girlfriend and I made an order then cancelled it and it arrived weeks later. Then she got an email saying they forgot to charge her card for the items - which were short shipped and wrong items. Anyway, I just sent it back for $25 yesterday which I think j.crew should pay for. I made a big order last week and was assured by a CSR that they are shipping to canada so I am just hoping that it does get here eventually. I don't see myself getting to a B&M until october at the earliest if at all this year.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Emily: I thought the garden skirt draped sort of funny. The waistband is a thin ribbon and the fabric not so stretchy, so there is not much room for forgiveness. I think if you are thin, it would work, but if you are a pear, not so much. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. jacquelyn: what size of the dream tie did you order? I ordered both the small and xsmall in eggplant. I have the small and the xsmall should arrive today. I will be returning one - probably the small. If you don't get yours from J Crew I could send it to you. (pending which size I keep)

    ReplyDelete
  28. yogichicki: Yes they are shipping to Canada, it seems to be weekly shipping though, leaving on Monday.

About the $25.00 shipping charges, I would ask for a refund. Can you ship collect?

    ReplyDelete
  29. mom-nyc: I placed my order on-line about 3 hours ago and got the 30 off to work. I also still saw the extra 30 off on my sale page. It took a few tries before it took. But now, I don't show the 30 off on the sale page anymore. Maybe I just got luck...or maybe my order will be canceled...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks for the offer jcrewbug, but I need a size XL. Hopefully it will come and I will like it (I have not been able to try it on in store as they never have this size). I love the color and really want it to work out.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love all these codes, but I wish one would be 20% off. I don't think I could resist if that came out...

anon @11:31: the cs rep told you to keep the items that were double shipped? I got 2 lady bug necklaces, and so far have only gotten charged for one. but I'm scared to take it back and say I wasn't charged for it with that email circulating about back charges still being posted as they catch up...argh.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Melanie: Thanks for the review. I am pear shaped so I think I will pass.

I tried the EXTRA30 a few minutes ago and it didn't work for me either.

Blumre: Got my Florentine pencil skirt that was cancelled last week. Called stores to find it, had to pay shipping but at least it's coming.

Got home Friday to find my last order and was super excited, until I opened my cashmere Lily cardigan and found huge holes, in one but three, in it. Called CS and of course they were out. I asked her if she could search for one and of course her answer was we don't do it for sale items. I told her, it wasn't my fault the cardigan was damaged, so she did it "as a courtesy". It should have been and I shouldn't have had to ask. Now let's see if I get charged return shipping for the Lily, and shipping since I did get an email that they found one.

Sorry for the long post and venting...

    ReplyDelete
  33. jacquelyn: I hope it works out for you, the color is very nice.

I talked with a CS last night and she said that "the system" has been going into peoples orders and randomly cancelling items. She thinks this is what happened to me a few times. "The system" seems like something out of a sci-fi movie at this point. Technology with a mind of its own!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. And if anyone else wants the eggplant dream in size Small (if I return it) is welcome to it in order to avoid an online ordering fiasco :(

    ReplyDelete
  35. kater: Yes that it what I was told by the CS rep, what do you do?.

I asked the CS about the email about charging after the fact and she told be that email is now being re-written, because it was confusing customers. It was supposed to mean, the warehouse was trying to ship out the item asap in multiple parcels, and that they are going to be charging once for the order. I am still nervous about the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Annon 11:51 - I had a CSR tell me that they would reimburse me for the shipping charges but I am just happy to get rid of it. I think $25 is a small price to pay for my sanity although it wasn't my fault. I wish you could ship COD, but you have to send it insured so it is not an option. I made the order last thursday morning at 1:20am since I was up watching olympics. The status still shows open, but I dont think that means anything. I finally broke down and ordered the cliffrose print blouson dress that I had been eyeing for weeks. But with the 30% discount I couldn't help but stock up on favourite t's and some dress shirts for my husband. I am in no rush to get it, but I would just like the stuff eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  37. anon @ 12: thanks for the info. I'm still nervous about it all too, which is why I'm not taking the second necklace back yet. I just feel like as soon as I did the right thing and gave it back, I would get charged for it and then have to go through a series of frustrating CS phone calls. I do feel guilty though, just keeping what right now is a "free" necklace. ugh.

  38. Arrrghhh!!! I am seriously pulling my hair out here. I have a wedding in 3 weeks and I ordered the Camille dress in aqua, in stock when I placed the order - yesterday it showed that it had been 'waitlisted' until 9/8/08 - two days after the wedding. Today it shows that it has been cancelled. This is the same story with a pair of pants I ordered for my husband along with the matching chino suit jacket...for the same wedding. This happened to two other items in the same order. Someone? Anyone? I think we've been patient long enough - my time for forgiveness and understanding has passed and now I'm just pissed. Sorry for the vent.

    ReplyDelete
  39. kater: I understand, I feel that same way. Wait a couple of weeks to see if you do get charged, then return it. I live in Canada so it is harder for me to return things, but I will.

yogichicki: Yours items will arrive it takes a couple of days longer than before.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with those of you who said there are a lot of codes right now. :) Unfortunately, I have yet to be sent one of those emails to let me know about them. Thank goodness for this blog and the kind members who share- otherwise I would not have known about these codes yet!

JCrewBug: That is crazy about the system randomly cancelling items from orders. That is just c-r-a-z-y!

Peacegrrrl: Please feel free to vent here anytime. Also, I just have to say what happened to you and your order is absolutely ridiculous. Especially because it is an item for a special event. I would seriously call customer service, request a wedding specialist/coordinator, and explain your situation to them- and I really believe they will most likely track down the dress for you.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Reading everyone's horror stories makes me so nervous and upset and just so mad at JCrew....when will this end??? I have not ordered anything b/c I just don't feel like dealing with JCrew...I don't have a B & M close by but have just been shopping Boden, BR, and JJill. JCrew does not deserve my business right now. While I do feel bad for people I have to seriously ask: What are you thinking???? This has been going on for almost 2 months now!

    ReplyDelete
  42. How are returns going through the mail for people??? I was sent the wrong color sweater and it was $$$ and I sent it back almost 2 weeks ago....makes me nervous that I may never see my refund???

Also, JCrew doesn't seem to be answering emails...really poor:(

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jackie cardigan question...do most of you wear the matching shell or a cami under your Jackie? I thought about getting a shell but thought that might make me look like an old lady. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  44. Cori, I do not wear the shell under the cardigan...I wear a simple cami in another color or just a bra and button it up mostly:)

    ReplyDelete
  45. The FALL code doesn't work. I put it in for the full price Double Serge Trench Coat. This code F5X73L works though.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Cori-
I don't wear it with the shell, either. I don't like the neckline of the shell - it doesn't flatter me that much.( ditto on the old lady look) My favorite look is to wear a printed top which has colors that match the Jackie. Sometimes, I also wear a white camisole/tank top/ t shirt under it with a necklace.

I'm really jealous of all of you have gotten the Sept catalog already. I will be checking my mailbox today!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I ordered 11 items last week, and received only 3 of them. The rest were cancelled, waitlisted, or are just sitting there. In addition, they are still giving me a hard time about applying my student discount to items where I used a free shipping code! I am definitely taking a J.Crew hiatus. BR is looking good right now, and they allow you to return items you aren't satisfied with, no questions asked.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous: I have received similar emails stating that past orders are reshipping (i.e., the Your Order Has Shipped emails). When I called CS, I learned that this means they will be billing you for the order (supposedly because they did not do so when the original order shipped) and this new/duplicate email is to indicate that your card will be charged.

Double check your credit card - in one case they double billed me and only sent one order.

And how exactly are customers supposed to know that the duplicate "Your Order Has Shipped" email really means you will be getting billed because JCrew didn’t manage to do so when the original order shipped????? I got no answer to that question but the CS Rep did act like I was an idiot for not knowing how to adequately interpret their emails (yes, it was rep working the evening shift)! It made me so mad that I am now researching how long a vendor has to bill a customer. One of the emails I received was for an order that shipped in early July! It is ridiculous to think that a retail business can't adequately post charges against a person's credit card within 30 days of the transaction.

Being a JCrew customer over the last two months has been a harrowing experience devoid of common sense and customer service! I think I am going to have to refer back to the bad boyfriend analogy from last week and stop “dating” JCrew until they figure out how to treat me with more respect (and be more respectful of my time and money).

    ReplyDelete
  49. Cori, like others have said, I don't think wearing the shell and cardigan together is a good idea. Even when I buy suits, I hardly ever wear the blazer and pants together. All I'm trying to say is that mixing and matching always says better style!

    ReplyDelete
  50. This is OT but I have noticed that the Rustic French Terry Pullover is new to the sale section. Has anyone tried this or bought it yet? I have had my eye on it and was curious to the fit. Also does anyone know if it is also marked down in the store? I think this top would be perfect going into fall.

    ReplyDelete
  51. anon: was just in the store, it is 49.99 plus 30% off. didn't try it on but almost did!

    ReplyDelete
  52. FFM: I have a question for you about your dream tie. I got the XS eggplant in the mail today and it fits perfect in the waist area but it is pretty tight in the arms and doesn't hit well at the shoulders. The small hits well at the shoulders but is too big in the waist. Where does the line on the shoulders hit you? Maybe it's not supposed to hit at your shoulder's edge? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  53. with this Canada code does this mean regular free shipping codes don't work for Canadian orders? it so than GRRRR!

    ReplyDelete
  54. OT--does anyone have any knowledge of the Emily sweater or the color Mandarin Orange? Now that we ave talked about the colors, I am wondering if anyone can describe!

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Rustic French Terry Pullover runs small, I found it tight in the arms and the shoulder, I should have sized up.

    ReplyDelete
  56. JCrewBug: I had the same problem with dream tie. XS too tight in arms and shoulders and Small too lose in the waist/tie area. It was a pass for me.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Just tried F5X73L. It gave me 5% off! LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  58. jliz: Mandarin orange is really really BRIGHT orange. I had ordered a cashmere sweater... it went back.

  59. I am having the worst online ordering experience of my life.

    1. I get a shipment of three items I ordered last week (I was impressed it came in a week) except I only got 2 items. Okay, I thought to myself, they ran out of my item, no big deal it happens. Well, apparantly they charged me for the missing item. So I called them immediately and the CSR basically lied to me and told me the refund would show up in a few days. Well I happened to call to check up on another order today and mentioned it to a much more compenant CSR. He looked into it and he was like "our system shows it should have been in the box you recieved." Well it wasn't. So now I have a "case number" and "they are looking into it" and I can expect to have UPS come to examine the shipment box. They think it might be UPS' fault. Yeah right, the box was in perfect condition. SHOPPING IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THIS HARD.

Oh and the other order I placed is lost, it shows they have some in stock "and they are trying to locate it." He has not clue if/when I'll get it. Great. As for my full price blazer, yeah, still hasn't shipped after a week.

I'm done with jcrew.com. Its a joke. Order at your own risk.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anon @ 3.24: This has happened to me before. I had ordered a pair of chinos along with a pair of shorts. When the package came there was only shorts but my invoice listed both items and I was charged for both. When I called up CS they said the system shows as both the items shipped. I said the pant is missing and they acted as if I'm taking advantage of their messed up system. They finally agreed to refund me for the charged item and sent me a new pair with new order number and new charge.

No matter what time I call I'm getting all bad CSRs. I don't feel like calling them anymore

    ReplyDelete
  61. jcrewbug: The Dream Tie Cardigan is tighter on my arms in the XS, but fits perfect in the waist. The shoulder line also hits a little further in, but I think that is how it is meant to be anyways, as that is how it fits the model in the pic on the website. I can adjust the neckline and move the shoulder line out a bit, though, too. I prefer the XS since the waist fits great, and even though the arms fit a little snug they don't look funny, just fitted. :) Btw...I don't plan on wearing this with anything but a cami or tank underneath, so the fitted arms are not an issue that way, either.

  62. Alexis and all,

I have an idea for a post--"Idle Item Chatter" or "Wishing Waiting Hoping". Idle Item Chatter to talk about our favorite recent items and their reviews. Wishing, WWH--packages we are waiting for an their contents, as well as items that are hot on our wishlist to purchase soon!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have spent a small fortune in J.Crew over the last few years, but haven't received a single code in weeks. Most recently, the EXTRA30 email didn't arrive in my inbox until Saturday. So much lost revenue, and they're focused on stackable discounts. Kinda ridiculous to worry about free shipping when high-spending customers like Alexis (and me) aren't getting emails.

    ReplyDelete
  64. BTW, of the three things that were in my basket when those two CSR's denied me the SHOP free shipping code (on Wednesday last), two of the items are still there now. They've been there a full week. So much for good policy decisions and moving merchandise!

    ReplyDelete
  65. sky & FFM: Thanks! I think I'll probably keep the XS. Since it's kind of a warmer sweater I won't be wearing much underneath. I'm gonna think about it for a few days...the xs will probably stretch some.

    ReplyDelete
  66. oh dear, all these incidents are terrible, shame on JCrew! I've mentioned my share of disappointments, some bright spots though (I think), an order I placed on the 13th shows that all 7 items have shipped...but we'll see if it was packed as such when I open it.

Regarding the student discount, I did email them about having it applied to 2 web orders and actually received a very kind reply just today. They said they were sorry I had been having problems and said they would apply the 15% along with the shipping refund for both orders after they shipped.

Perhaps it helped that I wrote directly from my university email and mentioned the problems I'd experienced. I don't know though, maybe it's the same deal as calling in, sometimes you just get a nicer rep who happens to read your email...

I did place a few orders these past few days, only 1 item in each though, I was afraid if some don't ship I could avoid the whole short-shipped/multiple charges nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  67. kater - Don't worry about returning one of you duplicate items. I had two Katie sweaters show up (only ordered one) and was told that I could exchange one of them at a store for something else. I had no problem doing so. All I had to say was that I received duplicate items from an online order and the SA said, "I believe you."

    ReplyDelete
  68. sarah: thanks for the info. My only concern is that I haven't been charged twice. YET. Were you charged for your duplicate? I just feel like as soon as I take it in, explain that no charge occurred, and give it back (without a refund or exchange) I will then get charged!

    ReplyDelete
  69. kater - i've only been charged for one of the Katie sweaters. the theme from the CSR reps seems to be that you can keep/exchange duplicates at no charge to you, so i'd suggest exchanging it at the store for something else you want, or getting a gift card for that value. it seemed kinda unethical to me at first, but what else are you going to do with two of the exact same thing, you know?

    ReplyDelete
  70. ater and Sarah: Yes I was double shipped on a few items and I just took them back to the store. I however haven exchanged them for anything... I wasn't charged for them and I didn't want to take something I didnt pay for. I just dropped them off at the cashier and either continued to shop or went on my way. The cashier looked at me very strangely both times and said "wow, you're honest." I guess I just didnt think to try and exchange them... I was just doing what my PS told me to do.

    ReplyDelete
  71. ater= Kater... sorry, type-o!!!

  72. sarah: yeah, the unethical thing is what's getting me. My mom must have given me one heck of a guilty conscience! I'm going to wait till the end of the week to make sure I don't get charged (after the scary email that was sent last week about pending charges), and take it in this saturday I guess.

what did you get with your exchange?

    ReplyDelete
  73. OT: student/educator discount: do I just email them from my university email to request the discount? Do they ask for anything else to verify that I am a student?

    ReplyDelete
  74. kater - i know what you mean! as i said, i was told to go ahead and exchange by the person at JCrew who was helping me with the order (not a CSR), so i went with it. i ended up buying way too much on that trip, though - a tartine cardigan, two pairs of bootcut cords, and the dream tie cardigan. i'm done for awhile!

    ReplyDelete
  75. wow sarah - those purchases sound great! I'm going to call CS on friday just to double check what I should do, but I'll let you know what happens. Too bad my head is already conjuring what I should get on exchange! The berry astrid or the andrea...we'll see if it actually happens though, because who knows what inconsistent CS will say to me!

    ReplyDelete
  76. sarah: what color tartine did you get? I'm eyeballing the gray and heather geranium that I saw in my store.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Kater: Stay away form the berry astride... it really done look like someone glued blue vomit all over it! It would be so pretty if they had left all that stuff off! Frankly it looks like it will fall off easily too and it was not well made. I say go for the andrea... though I havent seen one in person yet.

    ReplyDelete
  78. thanks for the advice blumre! the only way I'm doing this is if it's fully sanctioned by CS, so who knows if it will actually happen!

    ReplyDelete
  79. has anyone seen a tartine in heather mushroom?

    ReplyDelete
  80. FFM: Did you receive your order with the jackie cardigans and the cropped chinos? I was wondering how the bright azul and bright blue compare? If I remember correctly you had already purchased the bright blue. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  81. OT - I placed an order on the 7th and called on the 15th b/c it was still open. I was told that it hadn't shipped, but that it would be Monday and I would get 30% off. Well, Monday evening I got a call from cs telling me the item had shipped. Yes, THEY called ME! Unfortunately, the tracking # doesn't work, but I'm hopeful anyway. And, I doubt I'll ever see the exra 30% off - I really just want the item to arrive safe and sound. :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. kater: I agree with blumre. The astrid looks a little too novelty. The andrea would have more longevity and is a more classic piece. Imo, at those prices, it better have staying power!

    ReplyDelete
  83. kater: Also, the same thing happened to me. I was advised to do them a favor and not return it and keep it free of charge as a "courtesy". I just returned the one I was charged for and am keeping the uncharged one as advised.

    ReplyDelete
  84. math_teacher: That was the same day I placed my order and it is still open, but I received it today, (I live in Canada), something must have happened to their computer systems that day (AGAIN).

    ReplyDelete
  85. thanks for the info weab! I'll probably try to call customer service tomorrow morning when the better reps are there. hopefully I'll also be told to return/exchange the extra as a courtesy!

    ReplyDelete
  86. jcrewbug: would you believe that my b&m got ALL the colors of the tartine EXCEPT hthr mushroom! The very one I was interested in. They say it may come in but it seems as though it's a color that's on-line only. (btw, I ended up buying the black and LOVE it.)

    ReplyDelete
  87. OT: student/educator discount: do I just email them from my university email to request the discount? Do they ask for anything else to verify that I am a student?

    ReplyDelete
  88. sooner girl: just call them and ask for the adjustment and give your e-mail address

    ReplyDelete
  89. soonergirl - yup, just email from your school account. I always put the order number in the subject line (re: student discount for orderXXX) and then make sure I include it again in the body of the email, and also reference the total amount, my name, and the zip code it was sent to (I read somewhere on the site that was the info they wanted). So far, it's worked twice, and I have 2 more pending!

    ReplyDelete
  90. anon @ 5:51: interesting that the same thing happened to your order placed on the same day. Mine didn't come today, but if it did actually ship yesterday, it should be here by Friday. *fingers crossed*

ffm: are you surviving the wind and rain? According to the news, it looks like you're on the outskirts of the storm. It may be headed my way - they're still not sure yet. We're in wait and see mode.

    ReplyDelete
  91. jcrewbug: i purchased the tartine in maize, which i love. i don't remember seeing the mushroom heather at the store. they had black and the persimmon and rhubarb colors.

    ReplyDelete
  92. OT: Looks like J Crew updated their website with new items.

    ReplyDelete
  93. weab and sarah: Congrats on your tartines! They did have black and I'm considering that one too. The manager said they were selling really fast so I'm thinking I need to head back in this week if I want to get it in the store. They had navy, black, gray, heather geranium, persimmon, and brown. I was hoping to see the heather mushroom as well Weab. I was also hoping to see Buttercup but they didn't have that either. I was thinking I could maybe do that yellow. They didn't have Maize either but that color would probably make me look green - I can't do bright yellows with my skin.

    ReplyDelete
  94. What new items were added?

  95. Kinda off topic but...

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA readers theres a little store in Berkeley called Jeremy's its located on 2967 College Ave (between Ashby Ave & Webster St)its a discount clothing store all from department stores (no used clothing). I went in today and I swear all they have is J.Crew clothing! I found some really cute stuff from last year and this year (like the 5 pocket jeans for $34) I found the pair of wool/cashmire suiting pants that I already had the jacket for (which I had bought in the store on sale hoping to one day find the matching pants) The pants were $63 (orig $250 I think!) Its great!

They also carry other designers like gucci and mochino (theres a higher end version of Jeremys in San Francisco, but they don't carry all the J.crew)

Seriously people RACKS of discount J.crew clothing in all sizes.
    Go there.

    ReplyDelete
  96. So I got home today to a J.Crew package at my door, which is usually expected, but since I hadn't ordered anything, I was a bit confused. I opened it and what was inside? None other than the cherry blossom print Frances blouse that had been cancelled from a previous order. I'm so confused because I called CS after it showed as cancelled online and they said that they didn't have any in stock and didn't expect to get any more. I also wasn't charged for the blouse, so all in all, a good J.Crew day for me!

    ReplyDelete
  97. jcrewbug: I have actually seen the Tartine in Heather Mushroom IRL, and it is very, very pretty. Someone must have purchased it online and then returned it to my store...I would have purchased it but it was a Medium and I need a Small. The Heather Mushroom is the color I plan to get when the Tartines go on sale, actually. It is a soft and perfect neutral. :)

    ReplyDelete
  98. traci: I did receive my Jackie Cardigans and Cropped Chinos. The Bright Azul is slightly darker than the Bright Blue...not by much, but just enough to make a difference. I am debating whether or not to return the Bright Blue, since they are very similar, but they are both just so pretty that I may end up keeping each of them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. math teacher: we have been SO extremely fortunate where we live, and have only had a little bit of rain. The storm has moved further East away from us, and we hope it continues to lose strength so that noone else is affected...thanks for asking, btw! :)

  100. The Watercolor floral Madison dress is marked down from $178 to $139.99. This is a relatively new item so I wonder if there will be additional mark downs.

I placed an earlier this morning for the sea glass piper tank and metallic silver cristobal leather flats. Received 40% off & free shipping with SHOPFALL. Not holding my breath b/c both items were in "very low inventory so they may be cancelled."

    ReplyDelete
  101. FFM: Okay! It's on my hit list!! Have you seen the colors that I have seen only in the store - the gray and the heather geranium? BEAUTIFUL! Before going to the store I had my eye on the heather mushroom and actually asked the clerk if they had it in the back. I'll probably end up ordering it online. It's so hard to decide, they really have a lot of great colors in this sweater.

  102. Aficiondas--
As you all all know from my rather numerous posts, I mostly shop J.Crew online and have had concerns about how online customers are treated differently than B&M customers.

To make a long story somewhat shorter, I sent a looong email to jcrew.com, explaining in detail the ways in which I believe these discrepancies unfairly affect online customers. I asked for an explanation for these differences.

Today I received a telephone call from Margot Brunelle Foushee and Tracy (whose last name I didn't catch) from J.Crew's marketing division. They patiently, politely, and graciously explained the reasoning behind these policies and the business reasoning behind those policies, with the declared goal of leaving me happy at the end of the phone call.

I was, of course, very happy that they took the time to telephone me personally, and I do appreciate their time and effort. I have a better understanding of why J.Crew does what it does, but it doesn't follow that I have to like it. It's J.Crew's prerogative as for-profit corporation to establish its business policies, and it's my prerogative as a customer to determine whether I'm satisfied with the way in which those policies affect me. (My chief concerns remain B&M prices lower than online prices, and free Red Phone shipping for B&M customers with no comparable benefit for online shoppers.)

So, as much as I appreciate the personal attention from J.Crew's marketing division, I think it's time for a break from jcrew.com. (They lost/cancelled my last two orders anyway.) I know I'll never give it up entirely, and I love the ease of shopping with a mouse click, but J.Crew online is offering me *nothing* right now. Since I can get to a B&M only once every 4-6 weeks, I think my credit card will thank me.

P.S. Tracy was surprised to hear my complaint that I seem to be getting only one in every four or five email offers from J.Crew. (This seems to be a common concern around here.) She asked that I check my spam filter, but since I switched to yahoo I know that's not the problem. She offered to follow up, so I will keep you posted.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Hexicon: I completely understand your frustration with the discrepancies concerning online-only versus in-store customers.

I will say that I think it is great that Margot and Tracey contacted you. (Margot is their spokesperson that is pretty high up- the one who deals with all the magazines and press that we read about). :)

I am also surprised that Tracey wasn't aware that most of us do not receive the majority of the email marketing pieces they sent. Thanks to this blog, I am pretty sure I get about 30-40% of the emails (the majority of them arriving a day or two before the promotion ends).

Thanks for sharing the phone calls with us. I always find these exchanges fascinating- we learn a bit more about them (and hopefully they learn a bit more about us). :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thanks Alexis. I am so grateful that you've provided the Aficionadas with a place to discuss J.Crew. Unfortunately, if I am to comply with my stated goal of avoiding jcrew.com for the near future, I may need to curtail my visits here, as you all are such lovely, creative, fashion-savvy enablers :-) :-)

    ReplyDelete
  105. FFM- glad to hear you aren't camping

Hex- Margot sent you a nice e-mail? Wow it must have been better than the snotty one we got, we still haven't gotten a reply to our second e-mail.

    ReplyDelete
  106. NO hexicon--- do't go. I here by promise NOT to enable you! I here by promise to discourage you from buying and to only point to pieces available at the B&M stores.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Blumre, actually, it was a telephone call. (It was lunchtime and I hadn't eaten yet, so my blood sugar was low--otherwise I would have taken notes! And, I'm hungry again for dinner so I'm not up to typing a recap, maybe later.)

I tried to make it very clear in my email that my question to them was not "Why won't you give me more discounts or free stuff?" Rather, it was "Why are online shoppers treated differently?"

She and Tracy were professional and very nice, not in the least snotty or even dismissive, but they were firm in the business reasoning behind their policies. And this left me even more firm in my opinion that I do not like the way that some of these policies affect me.

Before I took up with J.Crew I'd been a Nordstrom shopper my whole life, so I'm used to one or two great promotions per year, followed by end-of-season markdowns--none of this coupon/one day sale/secret markdown crap like Macy's. I don't have time to call up a CSR to coupon-stack any more than I have time to hunt through the bargain bins at TJ Maxx. I just need to know that I'm being treated fairly, by which I mean that I receive the same discount opportunities and pay the same prices as other customers.

  108. I placed a web order a few days back and, as is my recent practice, paid for expedited shipping, as I am finding that to be, at least, more likely to arrive on time even if a tracking number is not sent to me until after I receive the item. I purchased the Uptown Tote in Cherry Guava and the stretch corduroy skirt in chocolate brown, deciding to suck it up with only the 15% off couopn that was available as of yesterday. I guess I didn't pay close enough attention, because when I received the items today, I had only gotten a discount on the skirt. That's about $45 bucks I did not save. I called CS tonight, got a lovely CS onl the line immediately (I am a J.Crew card holder, so I think I have a different CS number to call, and we usually get right through. Whhop-dee-doo! How about Free Shipping as a bennie?!?) Anyway, after a short minute of checking, I was given the 15% off the Uptown Tote.

I am annoyed with myself that I've given in to the insanity and upped the ante by paying for expedited shipping, as the regular-ship items seem to get lost in the ether. I guess it's a sign of my addiction!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Hexicon,
Thanks for sharing your experience! If you are up to later, I would love to know a little bit of their reasoning in the clearly different prices offered. I totally understand your frustration. I can only get up to the BM stores once every month or two as well. My last couple of trips it has really sunk in how the prices are soooo much better in store. I am extremely hesitant to order anything online ( not on clearance that is) because I know if I can just hold out till next month I can get a better price. BUT of course then you risk the store being s/o of the size you need by the time you can make that drive. Ugh so irritating

    ReplyDelete
  110. blumre, I am glad to hear you got such a personal response. I am glad to hear that J.Crew is committed to keeping communication flowing both ways between themselves and their customers. I am, however, disappointed that what you got was an explanation (ahem, excuse) rather than a dialogue. I agree with you - I don't think any of us are questioning J.Crew's right to make any business decisions that are this side of legal. But legal does not equal right. I am, frankly, more disheartened to learn that disparate programs and procedures on its web/catalog side is intentional than I would be if this situation were accidental or the result of poor training of CS's and SA's. (Now I understand why SA's at my B&M often are clueless about promotions or online-only items - the probably actually, truly do not know about them!) If their call to you was meant to soothe and remedy, I'm afraid it didn't do this for me.

Okay, J.Crew - want to try again? How about a Customer Forum? An opportunity for an invited group of frequent, loyal and knowledgable J.Crew customers in a tete-a-tete with some J.Crew management for a dialogue about J.Crew and its notion and practice of customer service? I know a few folks who would be happy to chat with you!

  111. Jcrewmama, what number do you call for CC orders? The number on the back of my card, 866 705 3396, is for account customer service and billing (and is closed weekends). So, I've never understood how CC holders go the front of the line as promised.

    ReplyDelete
  112. blumre: I was wondering if you had already reviewed the Westfarms' b&m. I've been busy all weekend with moving out of my apartment and I'm finally done but I need to catch up on a ton of posts.

  113. JLiz - I have the cashmere tee in Mandarin Orange. I don't really see red as a part of the undertone Since the material is cashmere, the color is a little faded...creating almost a heathered look because of the pile. I would call it bright orange. It's borderline neon, but not quite. Thanks for asking about the color because now I am going to wear the tee tomorrow w/a long creme chiffon scarf, jeans, light tan mid-heels and a gold necklace. I also tried it on under a tan blazer and it was very good looking.

Anon @ 8:36 - I haven't been to Jeremy's in BK in a long time. The one in SF is definitely different. Thanks for the reminder of the College St location.

Hexicon -- Stay! We can talk about In Style and other things. They still had the Rihanna issue when I was @ B&N on Sat. Can't wait to see the new one you recvd. Guess I should subscribe again.

Glad to hear you got such a personal response to your email. It's sad, however, that the company can't get organized enough to get everyone on the same page -- computers and all. They can do all the damage control they want, but why run a reactionary company? I thought Drexler was a leader. As they move forward they might want to take a good pause and think about how the business is run before they run it into the ground. To augment your boyfriend analogy, there is a documentary called The Corporation. I saw it a year or so ago and it was interesting, but I'm sure it would have tons more meaning to me now. A corporation is legally a person. The doc draws the comparison of corporations to pathological people. This is the framework of the piece and it's intercut with interviews, data, etc... Hope you stick around. :-)

  116. Hexicon,

I have set up a private (permission required) blog here at blogger to post any J.Crew-related thoughts or comments I (we) might not want the whole world to see. I have posted the cardholder CS number there, and any Aficionada is welcome to have it! (J.Crew may revoke my super-fabulous cardholder bennies - not! - but I'll take that chance! If you want the number, please email me at jcrewmama AT gmail DOT com, and I will set you up to have access to view/post on the blog. Everyone from here will be set up as an author, so you can post freely amongst yourselves if you'd like to trade info. I'll give the permissions as quickly as I can, but I'll be at work today, so it may not be until tonight.

Alexis and fellow Aficionadas, please know that I am not in any way intending to siphon off readers from here to recruit them. (Which is why I have not posted there until now!) I wasn't even sure I would use the blog when I set it up. But I felt like I wanted to have it available in case I wanted to rant and rave and not be heard. I hope no one will be offended by this. This place here is still my J.Crew home! :-)

  117. Aly yes, I did post it back on Sunday evening. This is what I wrote:

Aly: My friend, I went the the west hartford store! The sale section is not nearly as depleted as a lot of the other sale sections at other jcrews!

They had a couple of new staff (all looked like College Freshman or HS seniors to me so I bet the old ones will come back soon). There used to be an African American lady who worked there and I loved her but I forget her name. Angelica is still there too and I always like her.

Let me know if there was anything else you wanted to know ;)

If you want more info let me know!

    ReplyDelete
  118. The cardholder line is for cardholders...why take away the one little and I mean little perk we have? Also, I do know they have axcess to one's account info. when you call...and they know whether you have a JCrew CC....

    ReplyDelete
  119. Anon@3;57pm - you are absolutely right, and this is why I am not posting the info on a public space for all the WWW to see. As far as J.Crew's access to our customer information when we call, I am aware of the fact that our phone numbers are connected to our info, and our account info clearly states whether we are cardholders. I trust J.Crew to enfore the exclusivity of the phone number to whatever extent they wish. The few loyal J.Crew shoppers who will get the number here are not going to break the system.

Frankly, if J.Crew wants to portray J.Crew card membership as an exclusive club, then perhaps they should pony up some meaningful benefits that make it truly special and warrant secrecy in return for exclusivity.

Just my $0.02, which won't buy me squat at J.Crew!

  120. I just want to thank jcrew mama for sharing the number in the private space. Although I'm a "cashmere" card holder, I did not have this number. It's not on the back of my card, and if it was on some piece of paper that came with it, I didn't catch it. so thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  121. jcrewmama: FYI...your site does not allow membership without an invitation, nor does it have anywhere to ask permission to join.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I just received my JCrew card last week and just checked the envelope contents. The telephone number is in there so if you still have your info that came when you got the card, there you go. I never paid any attention to all that extraneous stuff that came with the card before, so thanks for mentioning it.

  123. jcrewmama: can I be invited? :) rlm26@case.edu

I'd like to def get this phone number.

    ReplyDelete
  124. blumre: Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear the sale section isn't as depleted as other ones. I'll probably head there sometime in the next two weeks to check it out. Is it a "luxe" store or one of the b&ms that carry the cashmere and nice items?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Hi all! Answers:

Anyone from here can be invited, but it does require you to email me and provide me with a working email address. Then I generate permissions through Blogger, which Blogger email sto you, and then I add you as an Author to the blog. The only password you need is the password connected to your blogger account (or Gmail/Google account if you have one that you have linked to your Blogger account.)

FFM (and all): I listed my email address in my earlier post, but here it is again: jcrewmama AT gmail DOT com (translate into a standard email address before sending!) Questions? Post again, and I'll answer!

Everyone who has given me an email will get the email from Blogger momentarily.

BTW, FFM, how is the flooding? Hope you all are dry!

    jcrewmama

    ReplyDelete
  126. jcrewmama: Thanks for the info! As for flooding...our property is on a hill, so that is not an issue for us...but the winds definitely are! The local school is actually called *Windy Hill*, so that should give you an idea of how much we are affected by the Tropical Storm and Hurricane force winds. So far we have been extremely fortunate and just received rain...the storm has moved into the ocean but is expected to come back onto the Florida mainland. We hope it doesn't head back our way across Central Florida...fingers crossed!

  127. Aly: They do carry cashmere but not the Jcrew collection stuff (for the most part). Its a nice big store. The men's section is a little small for my taste but around the holidays it seems like half the store is a sale section. Really i think the store has a nice balance of stuff. They carry the shoes but I dont think they carry jewelry. They do have all the suiting there though and I always find that to be helpful!
