Dear J.Crew, Could You Add Another Store Or Two?

JRL in the post "Mickey Drexler's 2006 Speech at Boston University" came up with a great post suggestion which is: where do you think a new J.Crew store should open? The hope is that maybe someone at J.Crew is noticing these suggestions and consider that location in the next round of new stores.

What are your suggestions for some new locations for J.Crew stores to open? Would you prefer a Crewcuts, a Men's only, a Women's only, etc. store at your desired location? Please let us know.

  1. A store in Canada would be amazing. Doubtful it will happen, but guy can dream.

  2. I would love another J Crew and a stand-alone Crewcuts in the Charleston, SC, area. Right now, our J Crew is downtown and I don't go there much b/c of the hassle of finding and paying for parking. If I go, I have to get there when they open so as to find good parking. I believe Mt. Pleasant would be a wonderful location for another store and a Crewcuts store.

  3. Would be fun if J.Crew expanded into home goods as well...a girl can dream, right? :)

  4. I wouldn't mind another store near me in Cleveland but I would totally settle for an expansion of the store in Westlake. It seems like a big enough building to house more items, especially shoes!!! The store about 45 min from here has a lot more in I think about the same amount of square feet.

  5. The Fox River Mall in Appleton, WI has a high-end wing with Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, etc. A J. Crew (with women's wear, I'd hope!) would nestle nicely there. It's a big mall and draws folks from all over northern WI, and from Minnesota, Canada, even people from Michigan who drive from the Upper Peninsula or take the ferry across Lake MI.

  6. I would prefer a store with at least women's clothes somewhere between the New Haven store and the Farmington store. There's an hour's distance from one store to another, where there is no other J Crew.

  7. A JCrew store uptown in Manhattan would be great. I know there is a store on Columbus Circle but nothing further uptown (north of Central Park). How 'bout something farther north?? For those of who have moved uptown it would be great to have a JCrew store in our midst.

  8. Ha! How about in West Virginia. Alone I could probably keep it afloat!! LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  9. how about in my backyard!

...okay but seriously, I wouldn't mind having one in Montana. Likely, I'd probably be the only one to shop there...but thats fine with me. I live in Bay Area, California so I'm happy with the Walnut Creek and Pleasanton ones...Carmel is also awesome. So, I'm pretty pleased with all the locations. :)

  10. (I'd like on in MT because I go to school there to clarify).

  11. I would love to see another J. Crew come to South Carolina.I'm located in Florence which is 2 hours away from the retail store in Charleston and an hour away from the outlet store in Myrtle Beach. When it comes to shopping for J. Crew its pretty much a one way street-online shopping only!

  12. Even though my city is 2nd largest in my state, we will never get a J.Crew here (or any other upscale chains) because the perception is that we are too poor and blue-collar. Our Nordstrom does very well and is in the middle of a huge upgrade and remodel--of course, one of the reasons they are so successful is that they're the only upscale major retailer in town.

I'm actually not *that* far from the J.Crew stores up north but our traffic is so miserable that it's often a 2-hour trip.

  13. Wow, J.crew is working hard. I emailed J.crew about how I've been shopping with them for over ten years, and the items I love such as the merino sweaters and the washed shirts. The intent was to let them know I was frustrated, but had not given up on them yet.

Well I received two emails, one from Mickey and another from Brittany. I'm guessing she's an assistant to Mickey. She also called yesterday and again this morning. I missed the call on Friday. They have found one of my long lost orders from July and are sending to me overnight on the house. She also has pulled a second set of my orders from last week and if they don't ship Monday they will also be shipped over night and on the house.

The thought of free stuff is great, but what I'm most happy about is the service and J.crew getting back to what hocked me in the first place; great customer service and excellent clothes.

  14. State College PA please!! Smack dab in the middle of a huge college town - come on! It would do great!

Too bad that the most "high end" store in our mall is The Gap and our mall is a piece of junk. Come on J.Crew, please bring some class to our crappy mall.

But if you don't want to come to our crappy mall, I can think of a nice location over by our Target store....

  15. jcrew guy in canada, that's fantastic! I decided to brave the system and phoned in an order last night (spoke to Audrey, super nice). She said they resumed shipping UPS ground to Canada. This is my first order since the 'upgrade' and I really hope it will come in a reasonable amount of time. I haven't received any confirmation email of my order yet though, hope that's not a bad sign....She said a tracking number would be sent once the items had shipped.

I agree, stores in Canada would be fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  16. CANADA. namely toronto.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Gig Harbor, WA!!!
There is not a single good retail store with in 2 hours of me and the closest J Crew is an all day trip.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Columbia, South Carolina for sure. With four colleges downtown and an increasingly preppy population, their online shopping habits and trips to Charlotte, Greenville and Charleston stores should justify their own store!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm going to pull for Savannah GA. Downtown on Broughton Street would be perfect! Currently we have Gap/BR & many small boutiques. Don't go near the mall ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I see that poster Monica has requested a store in State College, PA (home of my alma mater :-)), so I would like to put a plug in for another college town: Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. There's not a J.Crew for 150 miles and so we all go around wearing Banana Republic (which thank god we DO have--I'm not complaining but everyone has the same clothes!).

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'll second the post about Upper East Side Manhattan! There are about 5 stores below Central Park, but nothing north of that...

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with jcrew guy, a store in Canada!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ditto, a store in Canada would be great, but I would settle on JCrew using a brokerage in Canada so thre would be fewer problems returning items.

J Crew is still having inventory problems, I called yesterday about something that was available in all sizes the day before, and now every size has sold out, I don't think so, the CS was at a loss to explain the reason why.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would love a womans only store with all the collection pieces and petites.

ALSO... JCREW just changed their college student discount to 15% so sign up for school and get shopping! (the teacher discount is also 15%)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would ask for a J Crew a little further South on Michigan Ave in Chicago - freestanding too, not in a mall. Right around Brooks Brothers, Talbots, and Banana. I know, I'm too greedy! Putting one in Westfield Mall near Nordstrom would be GREAT too. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. molly: This is totally OT, but your hair is beautiful! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Aw, thanks Jcrewjunkie! I just let the dye grow out over last winter. The silver is a lot more versatile than I thought it would be. Thanks again!

Just wanted to share that I hit the J Crew in Shaumburg today and I got the paintbrush floral skirt today in a size 12. It fits, but barely. One or two pounds and it will have to go to the back of the closet, LOL But it's so pretty. Sometimes I just like owning the pretty stuff even if I don't wear it. I'm a collector I guess. I'm really sad I've missed out on some of the patterns over the years (like vintage violet in purple) so I decided to buy all the ones I love!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have been an avid reader of this website for many but have yet to post. I had to add my two cents to this topic!! I second Monica in that I would LOVE a JCrew in State College, PA. We are a great college town and JCrew would be a wonderful addition (since the closest is 3 hrs away)!!

PS Thanks to Alexis and all the great contributers on this site. I look forward to reading it everyday and will try to add my two cents a bit more frequently:)

  29. CashmereLibrarian & psumom...

    We Are....

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. OT also, But I am wondering if anyone has bought one of the Tartine cardigans or crewnecks? I am concerned that the silk ruffle trim might itch or prove uncomfortable around the neck but I Love them.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I read this blog a lot too and never post, but as soon as I saw this, I knew I had to put in my two cents. Add me to the list of people who want one in State College, PA.

Our town is growing and as a professional, there is only an Ann Taylor Loft to find business clothes. But everyone else shops there. We could really use a J. Crew -- our nearest stores are in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jacqueline: I have the tartine cardigans and they aren't uncomfy or itchy. It you wear it in a hurry, the ruffles may get folded under but other than that minor issue (simple check in the mirror will fix it), they are great!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jacqueline: I agree with Vivian. I have the tartine cardigan and I don't think it's itchy or uncomfortable at all. She's also right about a check in the mirror to make sure the ruffle is laying right.

Vivian: Did your missing order ever come?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Cashmere Librian, Monica& Lauren:

    PENN STATE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. math teacher: I'm getting a full refund for the missing package. The opera ring necklace is no longer available, sniff. I could replace everything else except for the necklace.

Are you eyeing any new items?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would LOVE to have another J.Crew in Orlando, as well as a Crewcuts, or else make our store larger, and add Crewcuts plus Shoes and Handbags...we only get flipflops, capri sandals, and totes...honestly...people in Florida actually DO wear more than sandals every now and then. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Central Illinois (Champaign or Decatur)! Champaign is a huge coolege town with a booming retail market! It's at least a 2 1/2 hr. drive to the nearest store...if anyone form J. Crew Corp is reading this, it's a great spot!

    ReplyDelete
  38. OT: I made the trip to my b&m today...I purchased the NEW ELIZABETH HALTER in Bright Rhubarb and the Jackie Cardigan in Honey Glaze to wear with it...so pretty...LOVE the color combo, and the ruffles on the new Elizabeth are beautiful. :) They still had the 40% off on sale items going on...couple of Metallic Linen Casa Rosa jackets, Jamie Jackets, Cropped Chinos in size 10 and 12, tons of shorts and tees...no new merchandise had come in other than the Elizabeths. The manager said the Tartine Cardis will come in a week or two...I am still partial to the Jackie Cardigans, as I like the fit better on my body type. :) Also picked up the Jackie Cardigan in Bright Blue.

    ReplyDelete
  39. vivian: I'm so sorry about your necklace. I know how much you wanted it. Are you going to re-order anything? The items that I want are so, so many! But, I think what I'll buy as soon as they go on sale are the cashmere argyle vest and the penelope flats in metallic. I would also like another cord pencil skirt, the denim pencil skirt, and a dream tie cardigan. I don't know what color I'd choose - my b&m only has the gray and navy. Oh, and there's more in my cart that I'm keeping an eye on. :P What new items are you watching?

    ReplyDelete
  40. ffm: was this your alone trip? I'm sure you had lots of fun if it was. Have you tried on the tartine? I'm curious as to why you don't especially care for it, since I love it and want more colors when it goes on sale. And, I love the color combo of bright rhubarb and honey glaze. I AM going to work up my courage and make it out of the house in that combo. :P

    ReplyDelete
  41. math teacher: This was actually my SECOND trip alone...I went last Sunday, as well. :) It was great...I love being able to try on clothes without being rushed! As for the Tartine...it is a little too long and boxy on me, but I would still love to try an XS in case the Small is just too big, and that's why it doesn't look right. I only had the chance to try it because someone had returned the Bright Rhubarb in Small last week. It IS so pretty, but just doesn't flatter my shape as well as the Jackie. :)

You SHOULD wear the Rhubarb/Honey Glaze combo...it really looks FABULOUS! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. my wish is for jcrew to start carrying the bridesmaid dresses in stores, similar to ann taylor who just has a few carry the maids.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Also: after looking at the Dream Tie in Dark Eggplant again...it is definitely Purple/Plum looking and not muddy or brown at all.

    ReplyDelete
  44. ffm: I did size down in the tartine, which is highly unusual for me at J Crew. If anything, I size up, especially in their tees. I promise to try to wear that color combo. I have a geranium sweater and gold pants and I'm going to try them on. :)

  45. I live about 30 mins. north of Tampa. Rumors say we are getting a J.Crew at a new mall being built now that will open in the Fall of '08. I am terribly excited, it would only be a few minutes from me. And I won't have to make that drive into Tampa and I will no longer have to depend on the unfriendly and incompetant J.Crew in Tampa any longer. I hope the rumors are true.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Toronto, Canada pls! May happen, since Brooks Brothers is apparently opening a store in Canada soon.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This past January our local store in Beavercreek, OH closed. Since that time a new mall has opened across the city that's more upscale. I'd love to see a J. Crew open at the Greene :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. In Olympia, Washington, and downtown. There are plenty of old lady clothes, lots of teen and tween stuff, but nothing that would compete with J. Crew. The closest stores are in Seattle and Portland, 1.5 and 2 hours away. There are two four-year colleges here, and one community college, and the state capitol.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ffm: congratulations on 2 alone trips within one week! My sister has two children and shopping with me is always more hectic than shopping by myself. I don't know how you do it with four! :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. math teacher: Shopping with all four is definitely NOT easy, but sometimes Obsession overcomes any form of Logical Reasoning, and I take them all along...they are ok for a small window of time, but once that threshold of opportunity has passed, it is all downhill from there...that is when I make my purchases and we head to Chik Fil A and Starbuck's. :) I try not to take them that often, and only when truly necessary...that is why I really prefer to shop online.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Shopping with 4 kids? *faints* you are a brave woman.

My one is usually pretty good on short jaunts. I bribe him with Legos if I know I'll be trying on a lot of stuff. He sits in the dressing room and builds his new set while I shop. It works out to about the same as J Crew shipping charges when you factor in the Legos and the gas lol

    ReplyDelete
  52. ffm: I meant shopping with them is more hectic than shopping by myself. :) I don't do it a lot, since my sister prefers to shop during the day and once school starts, I obviously can't do that. I completely understand about not doing it often. Her kids are getting older, but now the oldest just whines about looking at what she wants to look at! :P So, serious shopping is done by myself. I feel for you, and I can completely understand online shopping be preferred.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Emeryville, CA! There's a great outdoor mall there with several high end retailers. The closest JCrew to me is in downtown San Francisco, and that requires me to cross the bay bridge which is just too much sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  54. A new store in COLUMBIA, SC. It is home of the University of South Carolina one of the most southern prep schools there are... jcrew chinos and polos for miles and miles and searsucker galore... the city is full of handmade dress shops, mens only clothing stores, tailor shops etc, JCrew would do awesome in this city and with areas like 5 Points and The Vista where trendy river side bars, cafes, art galleries and shops are opening all over.. JCrew is missing out on the pie! JCrew Charleston, SC is a hassle to get to and JCrew Greenville, SC is home to rude employees and LOTS of big hair (literally) its very weird... COLUMBIA,SC PLEASEEEEEEE

  56. uptown shopper: I 100% agree.

The upper west side has become more and more posh! They are putting a Jcrew collection store on the UES... why not the Upper West side? (But not a collection store, just a regular store). A regular Jcrew on the UES would be OK too... but as a life long west sider, the west side needs to come first. Columbus ave in the 70's would make a great spot for you, Jcrew (and think of all the rich central park west residents and the ppl who live right near the museum... you could temp them too!!!!). The west side has $ too (Park ave, isnt the only expensive real estate on manhattan)... we would like to spend it with you!

jcrew guy: great story! I am really happy for you.

    ReplyDelete
  57. ffm: I too love the Rhubarb/Honey Glaze combo. I got the Hammered Silk tank in Bright Rhubarb and the Jackie cardi in Honey Glaze to wear together. I too think that the Jackie cardigan is super flattering on. It is so easy to dress up and dress down. I haven't seen the new Elizabeth halters online. Please tell me that they aren't a "store only" item.

Also, did you say that your Watercolor Floral Rosette tank is big under the arms? I am having such a hard time with mine. I always take a 0/XS, but I feel like the straps are too short on this. I have no boobs to speak of so I have never had the problem of something being too tight. Where exactly does your top feel loose? Thanks for letting me know! :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. blumre: Glad to hear that you agree that it is time for more JCrew on UWS.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hi J.Crew, we need a Crewcuts store in Princeton, NJ. Downtown would be fine, or at the Market Fair mall. (It would do very very well in either location.)

    ReplyDelete
  60. EDGEWATER, NJ -City Place! Neighbors would be BR, Gap, Anthropolgie, Victoria's Secret - outdoor mall space. Hi end shoppers who have the view of NEW YORK CITY as they shop...no place better for a NEW J. CREW with much space available waiting for it's arrival! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have to agree with the 3 or 4 other posters before me.. STATE COLLEGE, PA! I'm off to college there in less than 2 weeks and a J. Crew would do amazing business, especially downtown where it's accessible to over 40,000 students and everybody else who lives in town (or anywhere closer to State College than Pittsburgh or Philly.)

    ReplyDelete
  62. jcrew guy in Canada - I am very impressed that you recvd not one, but two calls from Brittany + an email from Mickey. That's amazing. I hope your items show up.

math teacher - FYI, the argyle sweater vest is SO cute on. Looks like nothing on the hanger but supercute in person. Banana Republic has a similar cut in solid colors for $79, but I don't know the fabric content and I haven't tried it on. Def not cashmere at that price.

Vivian - Did you buy the Tartine online? I can't recall. I haven't seen it in any of the stores I've been in.

FFM - I tried on the dream tie cardigan per your exuberance and it is really cute on, not to mention comforable. This is great for those with a non-maternity bump.

    ReplyDelete
  63. jcrewjunkie: The new Elizabeth Halters aren't available online now, and that is why I was SHOCKED when I saw them in the store! My b&m barely gets the new stuff, yet they had this...it's really pretty, too...the ruffles are a little smaller and flatter...it works really well under the Jackie Cardigan...more so than last season's Elizabeth does.

As for the Rosette tank...I also had the 0/XS and it fit...only thing was that it gapped at the back by about 1/2 inch. After trying numerous outfit combinations with it, I decided that the gaping just didn't look right, as it stuck out under a cardigan, and when I tucked it in, the side zipper stuck out. I think J.Crew should make these types of tanks with a back zipper...I'm not a big fan of the side zip, as it has big potential to make you look lop-sided if it doesn't lie just right. Anyways, I really do think it's a beautiful top, but I wouldn't have worn it enough to keep it, and that is why I exchanged it for the Elizabeth, which I KNOW I will wear alot. :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. gigiofca: how low is the vee on the argyle vest? Since I'm short waisted, I'm worried that it will be too low on me. One more question, did you see the wheat one and could a white shirt be worn under or does it have to be ivory. And, I have seen the solid on BR's website. Haven't been in a store to check it out yet, though.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Okay, I'm already married, but I think a store that J.Crew store that only sells wedding gowns, bridesmaids' dresses and suits would be a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  66. math teacher: I'll have to restrain myself for the rest of the month :) I'm waiting for eight orders!

I'd like another dream tie cardi (in eggplant or navy) and shoes!

gigiofca: I did get my Tartines online. My store has only two colors - choc and heather mushroom. I didn't size down, and could possibly up a size. I guess body shape is a factor.

Off to yoga now. Catch up later.

    ReplyDelete
  67. vivian: Eight orders! You've been busy. :P Does that include your missing order, or did you not re-order?

    ReplyDelete
  68. ffm: I boxed my Watercolor Rosette up this morning and have scheduled a carrier pickup for tomorrow. I can't justify the price for the way it fit. I am not a fan of the side zip when tucked in because of the size bulge although I do own the Amelia in three colors and regularly wear them under Jackie cardis. I am wondering, do you think that the new Elizabeth halters WILL show up online soon? They sound awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I took my watercolor rosette and serengeti tanks back yesterday - entirely for the zipper reason. I don't know why they even need a closure. They are loose and blousy - can't they just be pulled over the head? I didn't even use the zipper when I was trying them on.

    ReplyDelete
  70. jcrewjunkie and anyone who might be interested: I have posted a picture of the new Elizabeth Halter I just purchased: Click Here . It is 57% Cotton, 43% Silk, with a 100% Silk Lining...best of all, it is Machine Washable! :)

    ReplyDelete
  71. molly: ITA the zipper is not needed in these tops as I too slip them right on over my head. Trouble is that they show them being tucked, or semitucked, and then the zipper bows out and is visible even when under a sweater. Def not attractive.

ffm: Do you think that these will ever be online? I am wanting one so badly, but seriously doubt that I will ever see one via the website. :( Also, I wore the top that I bought from you with a pair of khaki capris (and my black Born sandals) to my son's school orientation...looked fabulous...got lots of compliments! THANKS. :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Two questions. Many of you have tried on the Ecole jacket and not liked it so much. Why is that?
Also, someone mentioned that they bought a Polka Dot Rosette dress for $30... where? They are still $109 online and I love it :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Arlington, TX and somewhere in western Virginia - Lynchburg would be great since the distribution center is there already! Right now I have to drive 45 minutes to a J.Crew store, regardless of whether I'm at home or at school!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Re. the Ecole. I think I'm just too voluptuous (nice word for it, huh?) to wear the cut of this jacket. When I had the jacket closed, it had an extreme hourglass shape that would have been cute on a smaller person, but just looked exaggerated on me. And the pockets added a lot of extra bulk to my hip are. Plus the pumpkin color was AWFUL.

    ReplyDelete
  75. math teacher - It's been a couple of weeks, but I belive the v comes to the mid-bust. About 3 or 4 buttons down an oxford shirt. I am also shorter in the waist and it's not too low. That's why I was surprised. I tried the gray on. Don't recall seeing the wheat though they probly had it. I think you can wear a white shirt vs. ivory. Contrast will bring out the argyle pattern more. I love the deep wine color at BR. Solid is nice for a patterned blouse underneath.

Vivian - I'm hoping the Tartines sell in stores. I imagine they will go fast, though, if they do.

    ReplyDelete
  76. gigiofca: thanks for the excellent description of the vest. I know think I will be able to wear it and I'm HAPPY about that b/c it is so cute! (My wallet's not to happy, though!) :P I do plan to look at BR's next time I'm out.

ffm: thanks so much for posting a pic of the new Elizabeth halter. I love it and will definitely try it on if I see it. It looks like it would be adorable under a cardigan with the way the ruffles are placed. Great, one more thing to lust after. :)

marisa: I tried on the ecole as soon as it came out, fully prepared to love it. I am bigger chested and that could be the problem. The hook and eye were way too low on the jacket for me. There was no "lock and load." Maybe if the hook had been higher, or it had buttons??? I think the colors are gorgeous, though. However, I won't be purchasing it even if it gets marked way down. It just didn't work on my body.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Marissa: I actually loved the ecole. The bella did not work for me at all last year. I am also very large in the chest (32DD) and I think it needs one more hook and eye closure added and it would be great and mroe form fitting. I am not a huge fan of hook and eye closures but the jacket worked really well. I usually have most of my clothes tailored anyway so adding a hook and eye is really a minor adjustment. I actually loved the ecole and cant wait to buy it

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm fairly boyish/small chested so I wonder if Ecole would work for me. I really would like a jacket like that and have looked at Gap, JCrew, Boden, BR but I need the longer/Tall sizes so the sleeves reach my wrist.

    ReplyDelete
  79. marissa go try it on. Also there is an extra 20% off on full priced items. you could always try.

    ReplyDelete
  80. i ask so many questions because i don't have a b&m near me :( maybe i'll have to trek to charleston to check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  81. marissa--- use a free shipping code. then if you dont like it you aren't out any money anyway. and its not on sale so it is returnable

    ReplyDelete
  82. blumre: confused about the 20% card/coupon. Do we have ask about it to get it? Is it only available in-store? Can we order by phone to get on full-priced items?

I have had 5 orders messed up since June, but I have not been offered this 20% card when I visited their Manhassett store.

I know this issue may have been discussed to death...but what is the latest on this 20% card? And how do we get it? TIA

  85. jcrewjunkie: I would like to think that the new Elizabeth will available online and not a "store only" item...not sure why my store ended up with them, but I'm glad it did. :) You could always call Orlando and have one shipped to you...ask about the Honey Glaze Jackie Cardigan, too. I think I may have gotten the last one, but you never know. :) 407-226-9732

Btw...I bet you looked FABULOUS at your son's orientation, and I'm so glad you like the shirt! :)

    ReplyDelete
  86. I would like to vote for State College, PA also! I hate having to drive all the way to King of Prussia in Philly just to shop at J. Crew. The shipping fees are killing me and I always seem to miss out on the online sales.

  87. Has anyone tried on/purchased the Flamenco dot Marguerite dress? I've never seen it in person but I'm tempted to buy it...

    ReplyDelete
  88. ffm: Are any of your children in school yet? That was the saddest orientation I have ever been to. I can't believe that I used to teach kindergarten! Now here I am the mom who is crying out in the hallway (however, I did look darn good doing so in my black/british khaki outfit...lol).

  89. math teacher: Uhm, it's eight orders excluding the replacement order for the missing tartines, belle skirt and jeweled jelly flats (I threw in the wool gabardine jacket & skirt, metallic brushstroke cardigan, and cashmere shrunken shawl cardigan in azalea because they agree to give me 20% off + 15% off + free shipping).

Remember the linen ruffle cardi I bought at full price and returned? It's now on sale for 59.99, and it's one of the final sale items I got in a new order with 40% off last week. This time I downsized it. Just can't resist ruffles, esp at the reduced price ($36) and machine-washable.

I returned the new Elizabeth halter. The 0 is still too large for me. Hope you'll have better luck with it. It's truly so pretty, and I'm so disappointed with the sizing.

So you see, I need to restrain myself for the rest of the month.

    ReplyDelete
  90. vivian: you go, girl! I am glad that you were able to get the linen ruffle cardigan at such a good deal - and saved a few dollars to put toward your other purchases. :) I too love a good ruffle! I probably won't buy the new Elizabeth halter without trying it on first, unless I get it at a super cheap price sometime in the future. I can shop again (a little) starting Friday. I can't decide if I should go for the vest or penelope flats while I can get 20%. If they do go on sale, how much will they get marked down? I figured from 150 to 119, and 15% is going to put them about $1 cheaper than now with the 2 discounts. However, I know it won't be cool here anytime soon, so I won't really be wearing either item for at least 2 months. So, do I wait for a sale or go for it now? (And, I'm not really expecting you to tell me what to do, just thinking "out loud.") :P Anyway, congrats on your purchases. Did you re-order all the tartines? I know you had mentioned returning some of the colors, had the package ever come.

    ReplyDelete
  91. math teacher: Ha, I'd be tempted to get the vest and penelope flats now with the two discounts. If they get marked down a lot later, I'll return them. The big sale is in September, right?

I did reorder all my Tartines. I'm definitely keeping the snow Tartine, and the black too but I have mixed feelings about the reds -- I have the rhubarb and deep persimmon but maybe I have too many reds in my wardrobe. I have the flame tulip jacket, flame Kelly, geranium Katie sweater, a flame Via Vittoria (snagged that last week for $29!! It makes up for the white that was shortshipped last month)... and a few others. If the Tartines get marked down later, that's a different story!

What are you going to wear on the first day of school???

    ReplyDelete
  92. vivian: I know what you mean about reds, although you have way many than I have. I have the geranium linen cable sweater and it is very close in color to the bright rhubarb. Congrats on the Via Vittoria, that was a great buy! I would like the navy tartine, but I'll wait for a sale. How sheer is the off white tartine?

I had a friend buy me a blouse/jacket from Coldwater Creek that I'm going to wear with my white favorite fit chinos. So, I told her I'd wear it the first day. I'll probably wear my fiona that first week.

I do want the vest and flats, but that it's a lot of money. How long do we have to return an unworn item? Will they just give a store credit, even with receipt? I might buy the vest then, but I don't know if my sa will let me use the 20% over the phone if they still don't have the vest in store. He told me after he allowed me last week that he shouldn't have allowed it, that if I came back in, I could only use it in store. They do have the shoes (or did, anyway), so I could get those. So, I don't know. I have to decide by Thursday, though. :)

Btw, have you gotten the ruffle henley yet? I just love it, both with chocolate and gray, not to mention black, navy, khaki, denim, and white. But, it will be hot here for at least another 4-6 weeks, so I don't know when I'll break out the 3/4 sleeve tops. :)

You're a teacher, too, right? What are you planning to wear your first day?

  93. math teacher: Remember how I agonized over the cord Bella last week? Here's what I found on ebay!
Phew. Definitely not my cup of tea.

    ReplyDelete
  94. vivian: you made the right decision. That doesn't look anything like the bella! Just a strange cord jacket. Maybe it's better on, but it doesn't look good on a hangar.

Btw, did't mean to have such a long post. I just saw how long it was! :P

    ReplyDelete
  95. math teacher:

Within 60 days with a receipt, you get a full refund. After 60 days, they will issue an exchange or merchandise credit for the price during time of sale (with receipt) or current selling price (without receipt).

The snow Tartine isn't that sheer. I think I'm able to even wear it with just a nude/white bra.

I guess I was lucky CS didn't ask to verify each item's availability in the store when I placed an order with the 40%. Perhaps she was overwhelmed by the fact that the order has 11 items.

I haven't received my henleys. They have shipped so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I got the slate and plum.

My first day of school usually means a suit. After that, things slide...

    ReplyDelete
  96. No need to apologize for the "long" post. Haven't you seen some of mine? :)

Good night! Keep me posted on your "by Thursday" decision.

    ReplyDelete
  97. vivian: wow, a suit. Where and what do you teach? Are you a professor?

You've given me more to think about now. Maybe I'll call down there and see if the vest has come in. If not, I'll call; all they can do is tell me no, right? Then, I don't order. That would mean that I'd go get the shoes. :) I just won't wear them, which is no big deal. I wear sandals for as long as I can.

    ReplyDelete
  98. vivian: I meant to ask what type of school instead of where do you teach?

    ReplyDelete
  99. math teacher: Good morning! Just saw your two messages. No worries! I teach strategic communication at the business and medical schools. Being of small stature and a somewhat mild-mannered demeanor, I need clothes to help me look more authoritative :)

I get sick of suits by the end of the first week.

    ReplyDelete
  100. vivian: It sounds like you have a great job! And, I completely understand about the reason for suits. Even though my students are teens, I am short and a mild-mannered disciplinarian, so I try to dress more authoritative for the first week or two, also. :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. math teacher: It's the sort of job that sounds more impressive than what it really is. We're just social scientists and the pay reflects that, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  102. vivian: well, it does sound impressive even if you don't think it is! It's kind of strange to be carrying on 2 different conversations with you. :) I do know how you feel about the pay, though. Why am I living in SC? I could be making so much more money in another state! But, then I wouldn't get to spend time with my niece and nephew, and I can't bear to leave them.

    ReplyDelete
  103. math teacher: How old are your niece and nephew? I recall you talking about them in your other posts. My baby is 22 months old - well, technically she's no longer a baby but I'll always think of her as one. Can't go shopping with her yet. Have you taken your niece and nephew with you when you visit your J.Crew store? I don't know how FFM does it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. vivian: my niece is 6 1/2 and my nephew is 3 1/2. Yes, they've both been to J Crew with me and my sister. Since they carry crewcuts, it works out pretty well. They have a dressing room set up with toys and stuff to keep them occupied while we look. Oh, and an employee stays back there with them. They both have crewcuts items, although only my sister has paid full price. I did buy the new horse skirt and horse cords, but they were having a special crewcuts day with 25%, plus my 15%, plus another 10%, so it was too good a deal to pass up. I can't imagine trying to shop with them without extra help. I don't know how ffm or my sister does it! I usually don't plan on serious shopping when they're along! :)

Have you bought any crewcuts for your little one? I think the girls' items are so cute! Not practical at full price, though. Does you J Crew carry crewcuts? The deals are just so much better in store.

    ReplyDelete
  105. math teacher: Ah, those are good ages! A 22-month-old is just impossible for serious shopping. And I hate it when DH hangs around the store with a stroller while I shop. I just can't focus no matter how patient he is.

I haven't bought any crewcuts for my baby although my store started carrying them recently. She's been a Gymboree baby so far. I went crazy when I started buying toddler clothes and there are literally boxes of new clothing that didn't get worn at all. And kids outgrow their clothes so fast. What a lesson for silly old Mommy!

I read the weekly exchange posts; I truly admire you for being so savvy! I pay my CC bills in full every month, but if I do cash, I'd probably restrain myself more and it'd be much, much better for my finances.

    ReplyDelete
  106. math teacher: wow, this thread has morphed into our very own private chatroom...maybe we're hogging the channels too much with our conversations.

    ReplyDelete
  107. math teacher: Oh, I still haven't received my herringbone Bella from Ebay. I paid on 7/28, and I'm getting a little worried.

    ReplyDelete
  108. vivian: I was wondering about your bella. Did you receive a shipping email? You should contact the seller to see when it was shipped.

My sister works at gymboree, so her kids have lots of clothes from there, since she gets a discount. Of course, they have more clothes than they could ever wear. I know they have their favorites that get worn a lot. My niece is into knit - she used to call adjustable waist "hurt me buttons." Of course, she's too old to use that terminology anymore. I ask now before I buy anything for her b/c she's so picky. Of course, if it has horses on it, then she's happy. Gap has had a lot of cute girl stuff this year, too.

I have one cc that I use for emergencies (real or must have items :P), but I try not to use it. I still have too many clothes, and yet, I'm always saying that I have nothing to wear.:) I also try to keep the cc paid off. Being single and having no one to help with the bills, I have to watch what I spend. It's hard right now b/c there's so much that I want. Usually I can be good and wait for 2nd markdowns with an extra percent off, so I think this blog is really bad for me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. vivian: Isn't your bella coming from outside the US? That could have something to do with the long ship time. I'd still contact the seller; it can't hurt to find out when it was shipped.

    ReplyDelete
  110. vivian: Totally agree that I find it too difficult to shop with small child. My daughter is 2yrs 4mos and I have not taken her "real" shopping. That is why for the past 2yrs, I have become diehard online shopper.

    ReplyDelete
  111. In or near Ashburn/Sterling Virginia! Our closest one is at Tysons Corner which is at least 1/2hour away. The other one in our area is in Bethesda, MD which is even further.

  112. BRAZIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can set it up either at Daslu or even better open one at the brand new and ultra chic Cidade Jardim shopping mall. Both venues are located in São Paulo, 3rd largest city in the world (right after Tokyo and New York), a very affluent and sophisticated market.
