Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?

Yes, it is that wonderful time again! :)

J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $100+ with promo code CREWCUTS. This offer expires 8/21/08.

  1. I thought this had to be on crewcuts merch?

  2. I know this is a little off topic, but I was wondering if you J. Crew experts knew around what month J.Crew started getting in their women's winter coats ( especially the pea coat with the thinsulate option). I'm doing all of my back to school shopping and would really like to gt a ball park idea on when I should be able to buy my new winter coat.
    Thanks so much guys!

  3. Anon, I believe they start coming in September - last year's Sept catalog (Paris) had the peacoats in it.

  4. Anonymous - I think it is September too, which means it will be the catalog that debuts next. I am pretty sure the catalog is going to be available starting next week. That is what I heard in a B&M earlier this week.

RE: Consistent pricing. Anyone know about Saks? I fell in love with a clearance dress in a store n Monday, but it was still $290. Now, I see it is online for $150. Will call this morning, but thought you all might know.

  5. gigiofca: You can usually use the code for non-crewcuts merchandise, too. :)

Btw...the website is down again...it has the *Be Back Soon* sign up.

  6. Ok...the website is back up again! I checked on the orders I just placed on Wednesday for the 2 jackie cardigans and a pair of cropped chinos and they show as shipped with working UPS tracking numbers! YAY! Hopefully they will get here next Monday or Tuesday. :)

  7. FFM - woohoo! I got a shipment notification email and tracking number for my Jackies this morning as well. Can't wait to see them.

  8. If anyone gets the catalog early I would love to see some pictures....I only have online to shop by and that just isn't working:) still:(

  9. Hi all

Does anyone know if the free shipping code SHOP is still working?

    Thanks.

    PS Welcome Back, Alexis!

  10. So this is O/T, but I got an email from jcrew saying an item shipped yesterday, but on the UPS page it says they have no information for that tracking number. I've never seen UPS say that before, has anyone had this happen to them?

I really don't understand how they are having so much trouble, I've never worked with such an unreliable retailer. But I do love their clothes...

Also! In term of coupon stacking, I was talking to a personal shopper on the phone yesterday (Janece?) and I asked her if I can use the 20% and student 15% when I'm in the store to buy my stuff and she said from her experience with people using the red phone to place orders with her, it can be done. So hope is not lost!

  11. ffm: what color Jackies did you order? what color cropped chinos...I love them, don't you?

  12. very OT, but I'm about to buy a cashmere cardi and wanted some advice on whether brilliant blue or kelly green would last better over the years? Tia :)

  13. jcrewjunkie: I ordered the Cropped Chinos in British Khaki this time around, and already have them in White and Navy...I want them in pretty much every color! LOVE THEM!!! The Jackies are Bright Azul and Soft Fuschia...can't wait! :)

anon @9:55: As for longevity, I would personally opt for the Kelly Green! :)

  14. This is O/T but has anyone been to Old Navy lately and noticed that much of their fall collection is wannabe J Crew? They have cardigans with a ruffled collar, v-neck sweaters with a critter motif, 2 jackets that look similar to the Fiona and the San Telmo (I think - I'm really bad at remembering style names), driving moccasins, t-strap sandals and their jewelry looked similar too! I didn't even notice at first but I realized when I was headed to the dressing room that everything I'd picked up looked strangely familiar.... (I should add that everything was obviously Old Navy quality and fit rather than J Crew.) It was freaky!

  15. I'm on the phone with CS--now they're saying to get the 40% discount being offered in stores can only be used on web orders if you call from the red phone, and that you can only use one discount--you can't apply the free shipping code SHOP to 30% orders, even if you phone them in. Going to try again, using prompt #2 as someone suggested before, and I'll let you know.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Just got off the phone with CS again. They suck suck suck! Here's what happened when I talked to a person from phone prompt #2. I can take my item numbers to the store, call from the red phone, and claim 40% off. However, I can only use the code SHOP on internet purchases, so I can't call in, use the 30% and also get free shipping! It is not possible according to the two reps I talked to, then, to stack discounts. If anyone else has a different experience, please let me know. I made an order on Monday and SHOP and the 40% was allowed. They must really be cracking down. I was thinking about getting a J.Crew credit card, but the more consumer-unfriendly they get, the less likely I am to do so.

They suck suck suck suck suck! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

  17. Mary sorry to hear about not being able to stack codes.I have a friend in Vegas right now doing some shopping for me at J.Crew. The closest I can get to being in the store to have a friend be there for me.

The upsides to her shopping for me are free shipping and spending less. If I was there I'd most likely load up.

She got me the Secret Wash button-down shirt in Whitford tartan. As I have ordered and received tons this month I will not text her back with more item numbers. Best to cool it until next month.

  18. Mary, that really does suck. I agree J.Crew either has wonderful CSR, or AWFUL ones. I just hate how some of them make you feel like they are doing you a huge favor to stack coupons when their competitors do it all the time! I go through J.Crew phases bc I love their clothes, but their policies totally turn me off and send me right back to my BR addiction.

  19. Hi Jcrewguyincanada

I just don't get it. A final sale is to move merchandise, a greater incentive to move it is 30%. The stuff that I was going to buy today (should there have been the option of stackable codes) has been in my cart since Tuesday. It's not moving, then, right? And two reps lost the sale because of the tighter policies that would have cost the company maybe $8.00. How is that worth losing an entire sale on merchandise that they want to sell? Makes no sense to me. But, like you said, it saves us money. I don't really need two new cardigans anyway. Sigh.

How great to have a friend shop for you! They do need to open a store in Canada, but I think if they did you'd be broke all the time!

  20. Hi Priya

Yeah, some do act like they're saving their own money when they don't honor codes. But this is the first time I've encountered it with two reps in a row. Either I'm having bad j.crew mojo today, or something's up at corporate. I'm thinking it's the latter.

  21. ffm - YAY for tracking numbers. I never thought I'd think 1ZV874 etc... would look sexy but it does when it's from J Crew & accurate. *lol*

boston_brit - I totally agree that many ON pieces are very Crew-ish. What did you think about the fit/quality of the merchandise at ON? I can't decide if it's truly inferior. I also wonder how much merchandising, lighting and overall vibe of the store affect my perception of ON. None of the items I've ever purchased have dropped stitches or fallen apart on me.

mary - Good info about 40% and the red phones. :-) I actually might try it today only because I'm so curious since everyone has had different experiences. Not sure if I can justify another couple hundred bucks.

This morning I had a dream gas was $2.01!

  22. Hi gigofca

Let me know what your experience with CS/red phone is later. I may go into my b&m today to see what's up. I think it was hexicon who used the analogy that j.crew of late is like the mercurial bad boyfriend. It sure seems like it to me today!

BTW, your dream is awesome. Let's hope it becomes a reality soon!

  23. I am finding as of late that JCrew quality is overrated.....big time...I am finding small holes on 3 of 5 sweater seams that I bought online...a crooked top should seam on my orange Clementina cashmere sweater that I paid full price for, and a White Frances blouse with about 5 flaws in the fabric right on the front that will likely be holes one day! It is made in China and I am sure the poor people making these JCrew items are in distress.... JCrew so called quality...not so great:(

  24. I had no problem getting the current 30% off, educators discount, and free shipping with a CS rep last night....However, I have had so many problem orders and I stated the details and this was a reorder of the cancelled 3 times and short shipped once top and I got another one so I had a lot going for me...the CS felt really sorry for me...I gave her all the order numbers of the messed up stuff too so she checked that out PLUS they have continuely been shipping my stuff to the wrong address and also have my sister's home address in their computer as my billing address so there were many problems and I only got the one top I deserved....I didn't try to get more.....

  25. My 40% off order shipped this morning too, woot! One item was cancelled but that's ok because the CS told me it was low. Unfortuntely that item was for dh. Now instead of wearing a cute Mango crew tee he will continue to wear the orange "hang-10" tee his mom bought him *shudders*

  26. I went into my local store last night, with item numbers in hand, and placed an order from the red phone. They honored the 40% off of sale (after verifying with a store rep), and I threw in one full priced item for the free shipping=, which I would have bought in store but mine didn't carry it. Everyone in store and on the phone was more than helpful. The cost of gas to get to my local store is MUCH cheaper than jcrew shipping charges, so it was defintely worth it!

  27. oh and Alexis, I'm not sure if it's possible with blogger or not, but have you thought of allowing RSS feeds for your posts and comments? That'd be great!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Erin! I think that the blog is an RSS feed enabled one.

On the right hand side of the main blog page, there is a "Subscribe" section (above the "About Me" section). If you click on the first link, "Subscribe in a reader", it should take you to a page (http://feeds.feedburner.com/JcrewAficionada) where there are many feed options. Hopefully this is what you are referring to- if not let me know- because I will definitely try to figure out how to enable it. :)

  29. ahh thanks Alexis! I had searched for this blog via my bloglines reader a while ago and nothing came up, but I do see it now :). I couldn't find a way to RSS the comments, but the posts are a start! Thanks! love the blog :)

  30. Hi Erin! I thought about adding those feeds/subscription options after each post, but then the posts started looking too bogged down between that and Digg. So I just have that "subscribe" section on the right.

Thanks for the super nice comments about the blog too! :)

  31. thanks a lot for posting this! However, I'm pretty exhausted and kind of disappointed with jcrew right now.

I know this is off topic, sorry, it seemed like the volume of complaints had gone down significantly on this blog, so I thought it was safe to place orders. So far, I've had items canceled on me 3x. I even called them every day this past week to make sure the orders had gone through. On one occasion a rep told me an initial order I placed was unconfirmed and we had to do it over. Regarding the canceled items, all they offered was free shipping off my next order (pathetic). Some didn't offer anything. One rep said there were no guarantees with sale items and made it sound like it was 'normal' to mess up.

Funny thing is, the most common response was: "Well, at least you weren't charged for it!" As if that is a real achievement on their part.

I placed all my orders over the phone thinking it was more reliable than online. Boy was I wrong. Now I'm just plain tired. I truly hope the 2 orders I placed get packed properly. What irks me most is this complete lack of coordination between ordering and inventory. It's like a bunch of people throw in their cc#s and whoever is lucky gets the item. I know this has been discussed before, about the order in which purchases get processed. It's like you order something, and by the time they get around to packing your box, it's 'sold out'. WTF?! Makes no sense at all. A reputable online store is not supposed to operate like this.

I'm so sorry for the long post, I know lots of people have already written about this sort of stuff, I just thought I'd share a recent experience.

  32. Hannah, I can relate to and understand your problems....ordering online or via the phone both have problems...in fact, I have had FEWER problems ordering online than over the phone...best of luck...I am still really mad about one item I lost out on due to their downgrade and lack of processing orders in ORDER!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hannah- I am sorry to hear about your ordering situation. :( That is awful. Hopefully they can track down those items for you.

  34. JCrew also has loss track of their shipments as well.

I ordered 3 Tees fp last Thurs, I did not receive the confirmation email, called JC, the CS told me it had not shipped, (he even called down to shipping), I found out today that it shipped out this past Tuesday, and there is no guarantee that everything shipped it was all new fall stuff.

No confirmation email, no charge to cc yet.

  35. Erin: I used the RSS feature for awhile (I have a gmail account solely for this blog, it generates so many comments!) but found the RSS was not as up to date as just having comments emailed to you. I think that's the way to go. :)
