J.Crew's Cardmembers Only: Early Access {wink!}

"Thanks!" to Blumre & Ashley who shared with us the email J.Crew sent their cardholders, notifying them of the new arrivals. Although J.Crew Aficionadas were already aware of that exciting news! {wink!}

The email's links are: Her | Him | Kids | Stores | Jcrew.com

Has J.Crew's website been functioning properly for you today? Is the website running smoothly or are their still a few glitches in the system? Have you ordered any items today?

  1. The coats are so PRETTY!

I can't decide now which to get, the Tuesday Trench or the Felicia coat. Oh J.Crew, how thee toy with my mind.

  2. Tuesday Trench is gorgeous- but so is the Felicia. I can see your dilemma now! :)

  3. As of right now, the only thing I can't access on the site is the sale. Otherwise, everything looks very pretty! I like the new video.

  4. I didnt really think of it as early access... its all on the web for anyone to see.

However I am thrilled to be getting e-mails again

  5. Has anyone tried both the velvet and the herringbone or tweed ecole? I tried the velvet on and it was very bulky in the pocket area, adding a decidedly un-needed 10 lbs or so to my already generous hips. I'm wondering if the wool ecoles are just as unfortunate in that are or if they're a bit slimmer. Not that I really need a new jacket... they're just so pretty!

  6. The search function isn't working consistently for me.

I agree; it's not really early access, but I'm glad they're throwing the cardholders even a token bone--it's a step in the right direction and it makes me feel that my concerns have been heard.

If I actually get a catalog, and if that catalog actually has a web/catalog coupon, then I will consider it another step in the right direction and might even buy something! Like those opera gloves!

  7. I'm still phoning in orders o emailing to my PS. I tried ordering online a couple of weeks ago and nothing happened. Nothing shipped to me so I'm sticking with what works.

I ordered yesterday before the website showed new items; I think it was cheaper as I would have ordered more most likely.

  8. OK, so after looking at the men's new arrivals, I have come to the conclusion...WHY IS EVERYTHING SO EXPENSIVE??? There is hardly anything that is under $100 dollars. The jeans are now all like between $118-$175!!! $98 dollar hoodies??? $125 swimsuits??? J. Crew, we are about to be in a recession! This stuff will NEVER sell at these prices, I can guarantee you! Ladies, how is the women's stuff priced?...Is it as bad? I have shopped at J. Crew since high school (20 years ago) and I have never seen things this pricey...

    ReplyDelete
  9. I've placed a bunch of orders in the past few weeks and all have arrived very quickly, and I love everything.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I also found the womens pricey as well. Since the stores have already had some fall things on sale already confirms my opinion that the fall clothes are priced to be markdown, so JC can make a good profit, while the customer thinks they are getting a good deal.

  11. Did this email come this morning to cardholders? That is just really, really, really NOT early access, if that WAS the case. I had early access at about 6:15 this morning when I got online and checked the site, like I do every morning...I believe I ended up being one of the first to see the new site, too, and I'm NOT a cardholder. It would have made more sense to send the email out last night saying that they would be online first thing this morning...that would be true *early access*. :)

  12. I think this email is probably meant for those that don't get up and check jcrew.com first thing. so yeah, not me...:)

now if only they'd truly give card holders a real sneak peek...

  13. I'm thrilled with the website today. LOVE that they reloaded on a Sunday...ordered a few "new" sale items I REALLY wanted and I have faith that they will arrive! I've placed about 3 orders in the past weeks with no problem. I'm a happy shopper! Oh, and Shelia at the Mich Ave store in Chicago rocks!!

  14. Ohhh jennifer, I love your blog! I have bookmarked it and will add it to my blogroll. You have the same kind of personality I do (at least I think so).

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jennifer: You are awesome! Love the blog. Will you be my friend?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Jennifer - Everyone seems to hate that Fontaine dress. I LOVE it and seriously wish I had the body for it. The details and materials are stunning to me. It is a statement piece that requires someone who has the figure and the attitude to carry it off. I think it totally works! I can totally see it on Anne Hathaway, Lucy Lui or even SJP.
The beaded cardigan is so much because that pattern is created WITH the beads and this can only be done by hand. I really love the styling of the collection pieces and have bought quite a few of them for the end of the season sales. I don't think they are meant for everyone or that they make that many. However, I do think they get J Crew some fashion magazine editorial attention.

  17. OT but curious: Has anyone seen the Soiree cardigan in real life? Or the Jacinda jacket? I'm afraid the Soiree cardigan would look bad due to my large chest. And though I really, really like the Jacinda jacket, I'm concerned it will be to fitted. Any thoughts?

I'd like to try them using the 15% off coupon but if I have to return them I hate to eat the shipping cost.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jacquelyn: I have seen the Soiree cardi in real life and it is very pretty, however I have not tried it on. It is a bit out of my price range at this point, so I won't dare tempt myself! The buttons are absolutely gorgeous. They're the same ones that are on the crystal button bird's eye cardi which I plan on getting soon.

    ReplyDelete
  19. jacquelyn: i've seen the Soiree cardigan but haven't tried it. it's VERY pretty but for me, i don't love the pleats under the bust since i'm pretty much bust-less, lol :) i checked out your blog and love all of your jcrew favorites. i just bought the chiffon sequin cardigan today and REALLY love it...:)

  20. I ordered today and had no issues. HOORAH!

LOVE the video. It really sets an emotional tone. Very nice.

The sale section wouldn't load for me, but I could access items from the side navigation once I picked "women."

The site search didn't work for me at all today.

    ReplyDelete
  21. ccbmum! congrats on the cardi! Did you order it or buy it from a b&m? Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! I really want to order it but have to wait until the DH is back at work...;)

  22. Off-topic, but worth a mention on this blog. A short video report on Forbes.com entitled Back To School Retail Blues talks about the state of back-to-school wardrobing in today's economy. The report is conducted in front of a J.Crew store, and the company's recent tech-related challenges are briefly discussed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. molly: I'm having the same problems. I hope they get resolved quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Weab or Molly - Do you remember, in the past, items from the previous year being added to sale right with the new season? Meaning last year's models of coats or sweaters coming onto final sale now. I swear I recall that from the past, but maybe I am wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  25. jenn brak: no you are right... it doesnt always happen but it has happened before. That happened in the spring with all of the 07 spring/summer items

    ReplyDelete
  26. weab: i posted under "jcrew catalog: did you get a copy". i bought it at the store...along with a few other things. i love it. true to size, very pretty...it's a keeper :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I seem to recall seeing some really old stuff in the final sale section after it had been off the site for awhile, but never tied it to the season change.

    ReplyDelete
  28. jenn brak: yes, I remember the same thing. Maybe that's the "bog down" on the sale section right now? I'm so anxious to see new items in the sale section that this "glitch" is driving me CRAZY! I WISH the wool Tuesday Trench would get marked down soon! Not that I need it in 100 degree whether...but I NEED it!!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. ccbmum: I just read it. YAY! I'm so glad you were able to get back there and do some GREAT shopping! I know what you're saying about the charcoal. It seems that several things that may have been "iffy" for some reason look great in the charcoal. This is true of the Astrid as well imo.

Ok, so the site just crashed for me "Be Back Soon" is back up...

    ReplyDelete
  30. blumre: WOW! What a memory on you!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I finally, FINALLY get to sit down and the website give me the Be Back Soon brush off. Waaaaah! You all know I will hit a b&m a few times a week, but I haven't been able to. And this week is jam packed. Pleaaase have my catalog this week!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think the Fontaine dress looks really pretty the picture in this post, and I find the wedding dress version to be pretty as well. It's just the cropped version that looks a bit odd.

Also, I can't get onto the sale site. Boo =( But, I'm going to the b&m tomorrow (to try on items, that way when they go on sale I know how they fit) and on tuesday I'm going to stop by the outlet.

  33. Mad About Madras: That is a great video- I will post it tomorrow morning! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. mad about madras: Thanks for the link...very interesting video!

  35. jenn break: your comment about coats is correct. Last September I bought a university coat for less than half price.

    ReplyDelete
  36. OK - Mad Men commercial. I think my jewelry problem is going to be seriously tested by a necklace on the inspiration page of the J Crew collection. Is looks ornate and crazy and just totally amazing! Did anyone notice it? when I called CS today they had no idea and said to wait until October.

    ReplyDelete
  37. WOW I cannot believe how long it is taking J crew to fix all of the issues with the website! It has not been working all afternoon and very frustrating. But at least when you call the 800# you actually get a live person without waiting 20+ minutes.
    Love all the posts-thanks!
Tried on the Astrid jacket this weekend and it is AMAZING!
    Twiga.

    ReplyDelete
  38. jenn_brak: I just looked. Is it the one that is all loopy and amazing at the left, and looks to be bluish or white? Because it is amazing!!!! You know they are going to charge 657 dollars for it or something similarly ridiculous, but holy moly it is stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I went to my store today and tried on this dress, just randomly and loved it! They had red and purple but the online catalog doesn't show that. :( I want it but think I might wait, it's still 80-degrees where I am! Also, I am hoping the online catalog will show other colors besides the one they have. I'm trying to add spice to my wardrobe, so I can't keep adding grays and tans!

Also, I noticed they put the herringbone Fiona on the website. I keep looking at the picture online and the "rhubarb" looks seriously deep red, yet I've seen a "red" Fiona in the store and it's definitely pink. Is this another case of misleading color or is the rhubarb really that red?

And finally, I REALLY want the Felicia coat, which I like because it's longer than hip-length but not so long that I feel too dressy wearing it. And I also really really really really want the twinkle tweed shift dress. I couldn't decide if I should wait and then kept watching the size availability dwindle all day today. So I called from the red phone to snag it. I have no confirmation number or anything, so hope they got it! I really want this dress to work out, as I have been looking for a dress with this kind of cut for a very long time!!

And thank you, everyone, for creating this forum for me to say stuff like this! None of my other friends like J.Crew as much as I do and my fiancee would have a conniption if he realized how much I just dropped on that dress today. :) Thanks, everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  40. congrats on the twinkle tweed dress melanie! it's gorgeous. I can't believe there is only one size left already!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow, one size left! That dress went fast! It's a good thing you nabbed it early! =)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Also, does anyone know why a lot of the "new" arrivals are already on sale / promotion? That seems really weird to me!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Melanie - Gorgeous dress. Way to go! That is the kind of piece that you will just find excuses to wear often. Enjoy.

Kater - That is the necklace. I know it is going to cost a fortune, since the double strands seem to go up about $25 each catalog. However, I will never be able to resist. I wear really conservative clothing, but always pull out the stops for my accessories!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks, kater and katherined! You know, in other J.Crew shift dresses, I have always been a solid 4, so I ordered that one without hesitation (and it's the only size left!). However, today in the store I tried on the Super 120's dress and a 2 was definitely the size for me. Now I am worried, especially since there are no other sizes left! I hope the dress fits! Because if I love it for every other reason except the size, I might cry. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Haha Weab: its funny that you say that because I totally have a problem with my memory sometimes being too good. I can recall the exact date and time of conversations that took place three years ago (not all but some conversations). Its drives MMiller up the wall!

Melanie: It also seems weird to me. I would bet it has something to do with the economy and taking some of the sticker shock away. I seriously have never seen jcrew move stuff over tot he sale section this qucikly.

Also, I know I said this on the other post... but why is the Fall Sale starting out as Final Sale... they normally give us a month's grace time. ugh

    ReplyDelete
  46. Melanie - I would call right away about the 2. There might be an inventory adjustment after all the sales today and it could still be there and you will be sure to get it. Tailoring this dress would cost a fortune, so you want to be sure to get the right size! It is a can't miss piece, you would kick yourself later if you didn't get the right size. Sorry if I sound bossy. It happened to me last year, got the wrong size, and Istill kick myself about it!

  47. Hi I can not use any of the coeds like SHOP, any ideas please?

    ReplyDelete
  48. jenn_brak: Good idea! I think I would echo that sentiment, if I lost out on this dress. :) I am dying to see it in person.

    ReplyDelete
  49. weab: oops, i actually posted about the chiffon sequin cardi under "J.Crew Website Is Updated With New Arrivals"...SO sorry. i've been sneaking away to blog today so everything i write is quick :O. but it looks like you found my post anyway! i should add that as molly said the sequins are actually beads and are subtle...and the chiffon is very delicate. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh! And I don't know if this changes anything but when I called today to order the dress, they couldn't find it at first. Then I mentioned that it was in the new arrivals section and they had to go through a "pre-order" for me. So maybe that means they're just gauging to see how many people will want this dress and sizes will free up soon?

    ReplyDelete
  51. melanie: I've heard people commenting on the super 120's dresses and saying that they had to size down one or even two sizes (I think the dress is cut large.) Nevertheless, I would take jenn_brak's suggestion just because of the availability of the dress.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh...dear me - SHOP stopped working at least a couple days ago. Try some of the other codes from the home page of the blog. I also believe that codes are no longer stackable, so if you're trying to use 2, that won't work. And finally, make sure you're looking at the total carefully because the savings are hidden there. They're not as overt as the prev website functionality.

OT - I am so happy for this model - item# 98745 in case my link doesn't work. She looked a bit tough in the last shoot. They really photographed her much better this time + she eased up on the intense eyes and pouty mouth poses. She looks really beautiful and fits in much better now, imo.

Finally got to see some of the new items. I'm not hot for anything at the moment, but I'm sure I will be. I really need to see the catalog, I think. The web stuff isn't working for me too well.

  53. Has anyone tried on the new Lydia top yet? If so, what feedback can you give on fit. If you could compare the fit to any other recent tank styles (piper, amelia, the watercolor rosette [camo] tanks) that would be most helpful! I want one and want it in a hury before it disappears, so I'd appreciate any comments.

    Thanks!
    jcrewmama

    ReplyDelete
  54. jcrewmama: I tried it on and it does run big. Lots of volume in the body. There's not the tight seaming at the hem like the camo tanks so there's a lot of room to size down safely. Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I just bought the Lydia tank today (LOVE it) in the grey color - it fits very similarly to the Elizabeth tank. Volume in the body, but not too much as far as I'm concerned. I normally wear a small in their tops and purchased and extra small in the Lydia...

    ReplyDelete
  56. I still noticed website problems. Also, what I like is WAY to expensive. The prices are just crazy out of reach for me...

Also, this is not a perk for cardholders...what a joke!! If it was really a perk we would have had secret access to it BEFORE everyone else...another very weak attempt for JCrew to MAKE cardholders THINK they have these great benefits which in fact they do NOT!

    ReplyDelete
  57. weab and megan, thanks for the feedback on the Lydia fit! Now I can order with peace of mind - now if only it will ship and arrive as expected!

    jcrewmama

    ReplyDelete
  58. jcremama: I purchased the Lydia a couple of weeks ago in an XS...I normally wear an XS/S depending on whether or not the garment has sleeves. :) I also think it is less full in the body than the Elizabeth.

    ReplyDelete
  59. My husband who does not have a JC received the email and I did not, although I'm a card holder...very weird...

    ReplyDelete
  60. jenn_brak, katherined et all: Thanks for the suggestions about the dress! I took it and called back today and they again transferred me to Special Occasions, since they say I have to pre-order the dress. That kind of confuses me on why they have it up online to begin with, if they don't even have any of the dresses to sell. I remember being able to add the item to my cart and it saying "In stock." How can something be in stock but I still have to pre-order it?

I distantly remember us talking about taking pre-sale orders before, has anyone had success in them coming through?

Also, the twinkle tweed shift has no more sizes at all available online, so hope I actually get mine. :) I've never been so anxious about an item, but I've never had one sell out in literally a day!

    ReplyDelete
  61. It looks like JC is carrying low inventory this fall, I also noticed online that several things are backordered already. If you want it you have to pay fp.

    ReplyDelete
  62. What do I have to do to get emails? I used to get them and I know I didn't cancel my subscription. I'm a cardholder also and I never, ever get emails or catalogs.
