Love It or Leave It: Tuesday Trench

Tuesday trench

Item 95682
Regular: $225.00
Sale on select color: $159.99

Many of you are already fortunate enough to own this beautiful jacket! I have to say there are so many reasons why I really love this jacket: (1) the flattering style of the waist belt & wide lapel with notched collar; (2) the versatility of having long sleeves with button cuffs; (3) the ability to easily machine wash thanks to the cotton/nylon.

What do you think of the Tuesday Trench? Would you buy it? Do you own it? If you do own it, please let us know (1) what is your review of the jacket and (2) how would you wear the jacket (including what types of weather this jacket is best worn in- fall, late spring?). {"Thanks!" in advance for sharing!)

  1. Oh man! I was eyeing this jacket and now it's on final sale already?!?! I didn't even get a chance to try it on and I haven't seen it in stores - how am I supposed to know what size I am?

On that note, is it common for stuff to go on sale this quickly? It kind of reminds me of what hexicon said, about how the sales make her think that the merchandise is overpriced to begin with.

  2. JMHO--I don't like belts on jackets this short. I'm on the smaller side (5'4") and it visually cuts me in half. I have the capri pink Mendocino chino (heh, that sounds funny) jacket and I don't like it very much for that reason.

Are all the colors of the Tuesday marked down, or just some?

  3. I like the Navy wool one. I left it twice at the store but only because I really need it in a petite. I love the length of it and the fact that it ties at the waste because it looks so tailored even on my short frame.

I don;t believe the wool one is on sale yet but I can't wait for it to be! However, I must add that my ps said it was sort of blah and I also was not WOWed by it. Not at $275 (or at $225).

In fact, I've even been toying with the idea of returning my Andrea (which I was CRAZY about initially) and getting the wool Tuesday instead. I bought the Lucille so I just feel that's too many jackets in the yellow family. I would really LOVE to hear anyone's thoughts on my dilemma. :)

  4. Oh, forgot to mention that I LOVE the Navy one with the dream t-neck in heather plum. GORGEOUS combo! (mine came today and I can't wait to wear it!...the t-neck that is.)

    ReplyDelete
  5. Weab-Is the t-neck real snug in the neck or itchy? I've been eyeing it in the honey glaze but I don't ususally wear turtlenecks.

The Tuesday trench looks very cute online but even the sale price is more than I'd want to pay. I'm only willing to shell out over $100for a full length trench

    ReplyDelete
  6. shannee: It is a little itchy. Oddly, a little more so than the tie cardi. The neck is not too tight but also doesn't flop down at all. It sits "stiffly" up against the neck. So it will be snug up against your neck. The color is beautiful! I recommend it!

I also love the honey glaze, but then again I've been such a sucker for ANYTHING in honey glaze. ;) I hope this helps.

  7. btw, I found the trench to run on the big side.

  8. My Tuesday Trench is supposed to arrive sometime this week. I called in the order and was able to get 40% off so it was around a $100. If you want the jacket, I suggest calling CS and asking them to price match the 40% off sale items in the store.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Correction: the trench came out to $96 with 40% off and I also received free shipping on the order.

  10. kathy: Congrats on your purchase! Is the material stiff at all? I ask because I have the sadie from a few seasons ago and it is very stiff and makes noise when I walk. I love the look of this one and wonder if it's a little more fluid?

  11. This is OT, but I had a question about the J.Crew CC: If I don't use it for half a year, do I get charged fees for inactivity? I am going overseas soon and don't expect I'll be doing much shopping since I won't be able to try anything on, so will I be charged for having a card but not using it?

    ReplyDelete
  12. weab - I haven't received the jacket yet (it was just shipped). As soon as I get it, I'll let you know how I like it. Hopefully, I love it since it's a final sale...

  13. Did anyone else notice a whole bunch of colors of the Jackie cardigan ACTUALLY showing up for $49.99? It never has before, so maybe that means they've started updating their merchandise properly? You have to click on it from the sale page and it lists a bunch of colors not available on the full-price page.

  14. I also ordered this jacket last week and am eagerly awaiting its arrival. I think it comes tomorrow so I will write a review once it comes. I wear a 10-12 in pants and lately have been wearing a M or 8 in tops (weird) so I ordered the 8 here...fingers crossed that it is tailored but fits!:)

I am in SF so even in summer it seems we need a coat everyday, so I hope the Tuesday works.

    ReplyDelete
  15. kathy: is there still 40% of final sale? do we need a code for it?

  16. Hi ladies! Saw a couple of your Tuesday Trench questions in the Accessories post.

I got my TTrench yesterday and think that it is adorable! The material has kind of a soft finish, and I love the shape. The collar is big, but not as oversized as the Dani peacoat from last winter, which totally overwhelmed my small upper body. I always wear a 2 in JC outerwear, got a 2 in the TT and it fits fine. It may even be a teensy bit roomy in the bust, but I was also wearing a tank when I tried it on - it will fit fine over sweaters. Glad that the trench has true long sleeves - don't get me wrong, nobody loves 3/4 sleeves more than me (they're even on my winter Charlie coat!) but it's nice to have long sleeves every once in a while.

Overall, the fit seemed more "true" to me than the wool Tuesday, which I felt was too big. I'm happy to get my hands on a cropped trench - I stalked last July's trench (which looked more like a typical trench coat that was just chopped off at the hip) forever. I'm glad I ended up with the Tuesday.

My only quasi-quibble (ha!) is that only the sleeves are lined. For $225 full retail, you'd think that they could line the whole jacket! It looks good belted, or open for a "slouchier" look. I plan on wearing it with dark matchstick jeans and boots, or some wide-leg black trousers and brightly colored heels.

I placed my order on the red phone at my B&M - the SA told the phone rep that the B&M had final sale, and verified my student status. With the 40% plus my 15% student discount it came out to $81.59, plus I got free shipping. Totally worth it, in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi silver_lining, You are lucky. They didn't allow me to use 15% student discount last week when I place order over red-phone.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think this trench is really cute, but not sure it's a flattering cut on me. It reminds me of the Jamie, which didn't look great on me at all, so I am hesitant to buy without trying it on first...plus I would rather wait until it is marked down further.

melanie: the merchandise IS definitely overpriced to begin with. I already said this on the other post but here it is again:

"As for the Sale Section: when I was in the store last Saturday, it was really busy, and the MAJORITY of the shoppers were looking at the Sale section. There were very few trying on or buying the full price merchandise. I think it would be a bad move on J.Crew's part to do away with the sale section...it HAS to be a major money maker for them. The clothes don't cost much to make, so if they sell at full price they are making a MAJOR profit...they price them so high knowing full well that the majority of the merchandise won't sell until the price is reduced. The sale price is really what the *mark up* price should be to begin with."

    ReplyDelete
  19. Melanie: I have seen the various colors of the Jackie in FS for a few weeks now. (I kept watching for the light blue in Medium.) Cust Service won't do a search for me because it's FS. ;(

    ReplyDelete
  20. Silver lining- The lack of lining in the body is what has kept me from ordering this jacket. Just seemed like, In CT, there might be a very small window of opportunity for this jacket. Any opinions on the weight? I am looking at a belted Barbour jacket that looks similar, but that would cost much more! However, would work for about 3 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you love this Jacket you will be pleased to know that the Bandolino/Easy spirit store is selling a similar jacket (but it has a hood and is a tad bit longer). It is on 80th Street and broadway (I am sure you could call and order it) and the jacket is $60. It is fully lined has a great collar and the hood is detachable! I bought it and love it. That Jacket at Jcrew will never get down to $59.99 and this one is actually fantastic quality. I was very impressed.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree about the sale merch - my b&m got a huge lot of sale stuff in over the weekend (starlet jackets, Martinique cardigans, lots of suiting pants and jackets) and that's where all the action was. Not by the Ecole jackets and high heel flare jeans! It's funny - if the retail prices were lower to begin with, the stuff would fly off the shelves and then they wouldn't have to have sales.

Speaking of the stores, I saw the new Elizabeth that FFM posted a pic of - wow! It is so nice to have a top that is a) fully lined and b) machine washable! I'd like to purchase one, but cannot decide on a color. They had bright rhubarb, orange, navy, charcoal, plum, and ivory.

PS - Anybody get the student 15% discount e-mail? The disclaimer says it's for retail only, no phone orders, no online orders. Hmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  23. ffm: I am up to 4 silky jersey pleated tops! LOL.

Also, I got the Ecole in Burgundy velvet and it is gorgeous. I still am having trouble with the fit, however. The petite bunched under the arms and now the regular 0 feels tight across the back. I just wish that J Crew's sizing would be consistant.

Got the Marcella blouse in Nantucket Fog and it is fabulous. So pretty on. Very feminine and comfortable. I will probably get this in more colors after it goes on sale.

For some odd reason I ordered the Jacinda in both colors. I do not like the fit of these sweater/jackets since the way they are pleated makes the booty look very wide (at least on me they did).

Wool Tuesday Trench: Got it in a petite (I am 5'4") and the belt hit me just under my boobs. Also, the color that I got (deep persimmon) had no WOW factor at all.

Hammered Silk tank in Peacock is stunning and looks fab when paired with the Brilliant Blue Jackie. I would suggest holding off on the necklace that it is shown with in the catalog...overwhelming. I paired mine with my Gold Scrolled Link bracelet, Turquoise fireball bracelet, and the Desert Drop earrings and it was breathtaking. :)

shannee: I too love the colors of the Dream sweaters, but the turtlenecks are itchy and if your skin is sensitive (as mine is) it will drive you nuts. I am crazy mad, however, to pair the Heathered Plum turtleneck with my Spicy Mustard Lucille although I may have to break down and get it in cashmere.

    ReplyDelete
  24. P.S. I still may consider the navy wool one for winter (then again I try not to actually wear winter jackets if it isn't below 32... I get too hot otherwise) I mean if its raining or snowing I have to... but in NYC our winters can be pretty mild compared to the rest of the northeast.

Silverlining: Great review and CONGRATS on a great purchase.

Jenn_Brak: As some who is forced to trek to the Hartford/West Hartford area every weekend I would say you could totally wear this September- Thanks Giving (if not beyond). I also think it would make a great spring jacket!

    ReplyDelete
  25. jenn_brak, it's not as lightweight as my Andy jacket, more similar in weight to my Marcy jacket (the precursor to this spring's Porta). I'm in upstate NY, and can see wearing this into October, maybe longer if I wear it over a turtleneck sweater.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh and while this is totally mean I have to say it. That model looks like such a huge dork in those oversized clear glasses. Not a look I would go for! Sorry to anyone who bought them.

    ReplyDelete
  27. blumre - ahahahahhaa! I found those glasses to be SO distracting that I could barely focus on most of the merchandise in the July catalog!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Silver_Lining: Haha! Oh thank god. I was so worried someone would jump up and shout, "HEY, I own those." But I was willing to take that risk. LOL, you comment made me laugh!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Blumre and Silver Lining. Thanks. Unlined, (I am imagining with taped edges) this seems worth about $100! Might have to go for it now! Also, tried on the wool Tuesday trench. It just seemed too bulky with the fit and the fabric as a belted coat.
Blumre- I totally agree about the glasses on this model. Though I like one of the pairs of glasses they put out with Selima, I think they missed the mark on the majority of them. However, I was reallly impressed with BR's new sunglass line. They seemed to be great quality at a decent price point.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jenn_Brak: BR's sunglass line is really good. I really do like it. I own one pair and think they look great. Sadly they discontinued the shape so I wont be buying more. But I agree with you on the quality for the price.

OH! GIGIOFCA: If you see this-- I had trouble last night with my ordering of two more City Fit Tall Ellie CHinos. The system wouldn't allow them to be put in as a T4, but only a T10. The CSR had to fill out a hand order for them. So I am a little nervous! Apparently their system still has some kinks. Just letting you know, you are not the only one.

    ReplyDelete
  31. OT-I just got an email saying if I make an appt and shop w/ PS by 8/29, you get 20% off purchase (The fine print says sale merch doesn't count toward this...)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I just got that e-mail as well... the fine print said something like you have to spend at least $100, and the discount is for full priced merch only. Shouldn't be hard to do, that's like, one item!

    ReplyDelete
  33. caw: Is that an email that can be shared and printed out? I wonder if we will all eventually get it...well, everyone but blumre, since she doesn't EVER get emails...right blumre? It would be nice if it can be shared...then everyone could get the deal. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. they say, share with your friends...I would be happy to email it to you, I think you've posted your email here before?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks caw: my email is:

    FabulousFloridaMommy@cfl.rr.com

    ReplyDelete
  36. it says spread the word on it and is underlined for emphasis, unlike the web fiasco coupons which was top secret. I guess they are really trying to plug the PS thing...I just hate feeling pressure so I don't know if it would be like that....

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes, FFM: Its a very sad day when you all get e-mails and I don't get any love from Jcrew. :(

    ReplyDelete
  38. I received the e-mail too. It doesn't seem to be a coupon, so I would imagine anyone who makes the appointment and then mentions the promotion will receive the discount. Great too, because the September merchandise will be in before the promotion ends!

Blumre - OT - I seem to remember that you might be a rider. I am dying for the Barbour Utility Mac but can't find one to try on before ordering from the UK. Have yu been to the Barbour store on the UES? Do they have a wide selection? None of Barbour "stockists" seem to carry it out here.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jenn_Brak: I haven't been over there in while. But I know my best friend and her mom go there all time time. Do you want me to relay her any questions for you? I also know she owns the utility jacket. (I tend to be a not cool rider and I am always wearing fleece to the barn.) I used to love Miller's utility jackets when I was little, but they closed. I would be happy to ask my friend to check on anything you might like.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Blumre - Thanks for the offer! I'll just give them a call though. The Mac is slightly longer than the jacket and belted. I love my Bedale so much, thought it might be good to invest in this rather than some of the belted short trenches I have seen. Plus, it has the advantage of being black!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jenn_Brak: I really do agree with you. Plus I think the quality of their stuff is so superior and I think they have a life time guarantee , right? If not, it lasts that long anyway! My mom's utility jacket dates back to 1966 (and she still fits into it, skinny you-know-what!.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I ordered the Tuesday Trench when it first came out, the khaki trench material. I was hoping for a jacket to wear during the NJ winter to spring transition (when it's too warm/looks silly for wool, but too cold to go jacket-less), but this wasn't to be. It is unlined, so I didn't think it could really be worn as outerwear - it didn't provide any sort of warmth at all. To me it seemed more of a fashion kind of jacket, where it's not going to really be your everyday coat. Additionally, I think when I ordered it, it didn't come in Petite yet, so it was very big on me, particularly the sleeves (I'm 5'2"). If I ordered it again (which I won't), I would definitely order petite, and consider sizing down as well. It's beautiful, though, so if it works for you, that's wonderful!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. blumre: I may have missed it - did you get your Ecole?

    ReplyDelete
  44. jcrewbug: yes I got it. Thanks for asking. And then my mother saw it, hated it and then MMiller saw it and also hated it. And now it is going back :(. My mom said she loved the color but it made me look dumpy and "did nothing for me." And then she pointed out every single flaw so now when I look at it I see what she saw. GRRRRR she knows how to press every button I've got... probably because she created said buttons---sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  45. caw: If you would be willing to share the 20% off email with me too, I'd really appreciate it: tls1214@charter.net

    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  46. OT: Since I know there are other Mad Men fans here----Have you guys seen all these articles that are out (esp regarding Michael Kors and Bloomies) that say Mad Men is influencing fashion?! I am really excited about that. I always love everything Betty Draper wears and I think the same thing about Joan. Not sure how I feel about narrow suits for men-- but the men on that show always look so good-- so I guess I can't complain. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. blumre - I hope the hand ordering works for you. I imagine that morale on the phones and in the warehouse has taken a hit. They've been through quite a bit in the past couple of months. A SA at the SF store that the guests he has interacted with regarding the web fiasco have been really low key, which is good. But I'm wondering if there were people who acted like fools on the phones. Working in a call center is not easy, esp if you have goals to meet, etc...

Hope you get it without a hitch!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I have the navy wool one and I cant wait to wear it! I chose it instead of the khaki one because I have the Sadie from a couple of years ago and I still smile each time I wear it. Jackets are fun and they really "finish" a look.

P.S. if any of the pregnant girls are reading this, the Sadie (and I think this one if left unbuttoned) will get you through pregnancy and the top-heavy early nursing phase with style!

    ReplyDelete
  49. blumre: Oh no! Well there are other things to spend money on! The new stuff is here in a few weeks! I tried the ecole jacket on yesterday when I was in the store and I felt like the shoulders were wide compared to the waist. Loved the colors, not the fit. If you are looking for a jacket/sweater in Honey glaze you can try the Jacinda. I have it and love it in that color. It's very heavy (I can't remember what color you were looking at).

    ReplyDelete
  50. caw: would you mind sharing the 20% off with PS email? My email is mcamps@gmail.com. Thank you so much :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. blumre - Fellow Mad Men lover...I didn't see Sunday's episode in its entirety because I was watching the Olympics. I'll go back and see it On Demand. I went to a MAC cosmetics event last night. It was so much fun! One of the new collections is called Cult of Cherry. I purchased a Mad Men worthy lipstick called So Scarlet. It's not on the website, but I highly recommend getting a new red color for fall. Even if you don't wear much makeup you need one good Mad Men outfit. ;-)

  52. To share a good internet story...I ordered myself some jeans and my son a couple of shirts. Literally got them in 2 days. I just ordered on Friday and received them Monday.

Jeans are going back today. I was excited they had 25s online. I ordered a super light wash. When they came they look more like a dyed blue color than denim...if that makes any sense.

Running by the store to return today. The last time I was there the manager told me they were getting a small shipment on the 20th.

    ReplyDelete
  53. caw: I got it...THANKS AGAIN!!! Plus I also got the same one from J.Crew a few minutes ago...guess it's on that staggered time loop again. :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. ffm: Would you share your personal shopper email coupon with me?

    tammy@effective1.com

    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Gigiofca: I totally agree!!!

Jcrewbug: I am actually getting the bird's eye blazer from BR (I know totally sac religious) and thats to Gigiofca I am getting 20% off and I just got an email with 15% off... so it should be about the same price as the Jcrew (not velvet but the herringbone is nice and soft).

    ReplyDelete
  56. thats=THANKS!!!

    Sorry for the type-o kids.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I posted this last nite, but it's buried somewhere. I took photos of the mysterious Astrid Blue Berry Jacket

I can't recall the price (sorry FFM). I want to say it was $258, but it may have been more. I believe someone here pre-ordered it and can say.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I pre-ordered the Astrid yesterday and the rep said it was $248.

    ReplyDelete
  59. @CAW or Jenn_brak or anyone else who got the personal shopper e-mail:

Could you please forward to me? I have an appointment with PS on Friday and I would like to take advantage of this!!!!

My address is hexicon at yahoo.com

I am royally miffed that I didn't receive the e-mail (and I don't have a problem receiving e-mail from J.Crew, so evidently I am not "special" enough for them).

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  60. tammylee: I just sent it...let me know if you don't get it. :)

FYI: I just noticed on that email that it says to be sure to add

    jcrew@e.jcrew.com

to your address book in order to receive future emails...could this be why some are having problems getting them? This is the first time I have noticed this...anyone else see it before?

    ReplyDelete
  61. okay, i am sending the email now to you gals....definitely you should take advantage of this hexicon!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  63. i won't buy it because i made one like it out of an old super long BR trench that i rarely wore. so i'm a fan of the coat. it's on my blog ;)

    ReplyDelete
  64. michelle: I just sent it...twice, actually...I think...let me know if you don't get it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hexicon - Sorry, had to go get my oil changed, but think you received the e-mail from someone else. If not, let me know.

Ahhh, the Sadie. So sorry I missed out on that one!

Blumre - I think it is a lifetime guarantee. Regardless, it will last forever. If you know anyone who wants a Barbour, tell them to visit countryattire.com. Shipping is free and, even with the unfavorable exchange rate, they end up being much less than U.S. retail.

    ReplyDelete
  66. gigiofca: Thanks for the pictures. I absolutely cannot wait for mine to arrive!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I am interested in the Tuesday trench, but like others I think it is still overpriced. My store is about 45 minutes from me, so it's kind of a hassle to go there and have them call on the red phone to verify the sale. It's a shame that J.Crew won't let you just give them the phone number anymore; I used to buy more from them that way. I like this jacket but I can't justify going all the way there to get it at a semi-reasonable price when it is final sale and I can't try it on first because it's Internet-only.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Michelle: Check out Bandolino (I cant find it online but if you call a store they have it). Thier trench is short like Jcrew's 100% fully lined (with detachable hood). An awesome collar and best of all only $60!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. hdayton - Thanks for the tip! Wish I had the Sadie trench....I was actually wondering how I'm going to keep myself and the belly warm when the winter hits.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Just placed another order today! I can't even begin to count how much I've spent at Jcrew lately (nor do I want to see my next CC bill)... The CS gave me 40% off plus free shipping. I ordered two of the lily cardigans!

    ReplyDelete
  71. layla - I gotta say that Old Navy has cute maternity clothes and they wear well. They had some great bargains recently.

kathy t - You're better off being in denial. I added up what I've spent in the last 2 months and it's scary!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don't know if someone mentioned it already, but there is an Astrid jacket on eBay if anyone is interested in seeing what it looks like. The picture of the jacket makes the blue look a lot brighter than it is in person. My B&M had the jacket, and the blue looked more like a blueberry blue instead of an electric blue.

I think this same seller is also selling wool herringbone Fiona jackets for $325!!! Ridiculous. It's not even like they are sold out in stores. I hope no one gets suckered into buying one at that price.

    ReplyDelete
  73. OT - The Snap Cardgian only $11. I have black and lavender. I don't know about any of the sweaters, but the cottons are just fine. I also have The Faux Wrap in a couple of colors.

thanks for letting me practice my linking skills...hope they work

    ReplyDelete
  74. gigiofca: why would you do that? that is just pure self torture!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Oops -- that post w/links was for the expecting moms

    ReplyDelete
  76. blumre - I know! But I had to do it because I needed to figure out if I was charged properly-ish for everything I purchased online. I'm not convinced I've figured it out. The upside is I paid for most of it on my debit card, instead of charging it. However, I know I won't be paying for it that way because I don't trust their accounting skills. I try not to live on the edge in my checking account, but I'd rather an error be made on a charge card so I can have time to fix it without worrying about overdrafts.

    ReplyDelete
  77. gigiofca - Thanks for the links. The ON cardigan is very cute. I'm keeping lists of what to get; I haven't gone shopping yet as I'm not showing at all (just overall a little plumper around the middle), but I love these suggestions.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Gigiofca: I can see that... I just check per charge though and correct on an as needed basis... I dont think I would go two months back and check it out. That is just cruel to myself. And I would feel pathetic! hehe

I also primarily use my debit acct to pay and not my credit card.

    ReplyDelete
  79. EnablR alert -- I've posted photos of the Patent Leather Tote . It's $150 and the tag inside says 100% leather, baby. Available in stores. Haven't seen it online.

    ReplyDelete
  80. gigiofca and blumre: That IS the one they have in my store! It's on display in all the different colors, too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. ffm - It's very cute in the other colors. I had to go w/basic black, though. What did you think about the Quincy? I thought it looked cheap in person. Hope the link works. If not the item# is 97200.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Practicing my links. Let me try again for the Quincy

Sorry if someone owns the Quincy and is offended. The leather looks bland, imho, and that's what makes it look like faux leather instead of real leather.

  83. gigiofca: I agree with you!

I much prefer the patent tote--- it doesnt really look expensive, but its not so i don't care :)

  84. gigiofca: I haven't seen the Quincy in person...my store doesn't get many accessories like the bags and shoes...not very much jewelry, either. I guess it doesn't sell well, maybe?

  85. This is my first post, it's nice to read that other folks are having strange shopping experiences with J. Crew also. I'm confused about the extra discounts, is there an extra 40% off for sale items when placing a phone order? Is there a code? -Thx

  86. Anon: You just have to ask for it over the phone

  87. Hi blumre - I called to place my order, asked the rep about the add'l % off. He placed me on hold for a bit, came back said he had talked with his supervisor. No add'l 40% off on the sale items!

  88. Anon: So will do it and some wont. I dont know what to tell you

  89. anon at 2:17, don't let that discourage you, like others I had different responses from different reps. Just let them know which store has the promotion. I've found most to be quite nice, they confirm with the store and then apply it. Good luck!

  90. i just got this e-mail in response to a message I sent inquiring as to why an item i purchased ending in .50 was marked final sale:

"We apologize for our processing error which resulted in the inclusion of
a "Final Sale" receipt in your shipment (and others, as well) that did
not warrant its use. Please disregard the alert as the apparel you
purchased is absolutely returnable per our normal returns guidelines. We
regret any confusion this has caused and hope you will enjoy the
    merchandise you have received.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know by responding to
this email at contactus@jcrew.com or calling a J.Crew Associate at
    1-800-562-0258.

    Sincerely,

    Lloyd"

So if anyone is having the same problem, definitely write them so you can get a message to print and take in to the store if you need to return.

  91. I had ordered the slim-fit shirt in XS and S, to figure out what size I was, at full retail price. It came marked as final sale, even though I paid full price. When I returned it to the store, he just called CS to check to see if it was returnable. Funnily enough, he didn't even notice on the $185 Lucie heels I returned. :)

  92. PS. Speaking of the shirt I bought, why is this shirt not listed under "shirts" but is available on the site when I do a search? Why would they not want people to be able to find their merchandise?

  93. melanie: I have noticed the same thing about the searches...there is apparently alot more inventory and other merchandise available than what the website shows. I don't think you should have to look through a past or even current catalog to find the majority of the items, yet that seems to be the only way to find things in most cases. That is also why the Google searches worked so well before the upgrade, but now you can't even find the merchandise that way...what a mess!

  94. melanie -- I agree w/FFM. FWIW, when I placed an order last nite, the CS put numbers in and a different item would show up. It happened on 2 of my items. It sounded like he'd put in the right number and the system would jump to something else. I think they still have bugs in the system.

  95. I have the Navy wool version in an 8P after trying it on in the store in the 8 regular. it does seem to run a bit large, but I'd really actually call it roominess. I am a petite but have a proportionally longer torso and a very defined waist, and I did not find it to feel or look bulky. Even with it belted, it did not look bulky or like too much fabric. I actually love the belt - I think it just adds a touch of chic to an otherwise simple classic peacoat (which is what the jacket looks like unbelted.) I would have tried the persimmon, but my long wool coat is red, and I felt I needed an alternative to red for winter dress. I bought it in-store via the Red Phone, and I was able to use the in-store 20% off coupon card a few weeks ago for it, so I got it for about $225. It is a lot, but here in New Hampshire, where wool coat season can run September through April, it is a great investment, and very versatile - I can wear it to work with wool trousers or with jeans and boots. Also, I have kind of heavy upper arms, and I would only be concerned about the arms if I tried to wear a buljy sweater under the TT.
