Off On A Tangent: Banana Republic Offer

A big "thanks!" to Cass who shared with us this exciting offer at the Banana Republic to celebrate their 30th Anniversary.

On Thursday September 4, between 7-9PM, enjoy 30% off any purchase of $125+ when you use a Visa, Banana Republic, Gap, or Old Navy credit card.

There is a catch- this offer is only good for in-store purchases at select locations (which are listed on the image to the left). To RSVP for this event, click here.

  1. I have a GAP card and they have been sending me a lot of these 30% off $125+ or 25% off $125+. Also 25% off of GAP for $100+. I have now like 3 emails from BR with different code for that percentage off. Also a couple from GAP. They even send them home and the coupon can be use twice. I'm not going to use them all, maybe just one. :)

  2. Yes, and let's not forget that you can actually stack coupons and easily use a BR card at Gap and ON and vice versa (they even encourage it!)...

As pleased as I am with BR's offers (ahem...listening JCrew? ;) ), it does make me wonder if they are in serious financial trouble....

  3. I have seen big sales at many retailers as of late. It seems sales are more frequent and going on for longer periods. The signs are so large at some of them I think the store is going out of business. Retail must be super tricky because they have to plan and order so far in advance. They can't simply canx the merchandise given that it has been in production for over a year. That's one thing I'm attributing the sales to. Too much clothing in stock in the current economy. I'm going to try to hit one of the BR stores for that event, if I haven't already said so.

  4. I've been getting the same multiple emails for GAP ($20 off $100) and for BR, though no discounts there. Is it just me though or has BR's style totally changed for the worse? I used to go there for the basics - but everything nowadays has the same "BR-look" to it - a look I DO NOT like! Too many knotted shirts and knotted dresses, lattice-collared tops, puffy-sleeved shirts and GIGANTIC buttons! Certainly not at ALL timeless OR classic! The only redeeming factor right now is the BR30 line - which they specifically call out as being "classic." I wait and wait for the new spring/summer/fall/winter lines to come out, but I just keep getting disappointed...

  5. The manager that I know very well at BR said the stores are carrying less inventory because of the economy.

The fall line at BR is better than previous years, the style has changed, those big buttons are in, along with the puffy sleeves. At least BR has color this year, the purple and teals are pretty.

I admit that have moved away from the classic pieces and they used to make some great casual clothes too, but not anymore. Its more for work now.

  6. I used to love BR, but it doesn't really excite me anymore.... sort of sounds like an infatuation with an old boyfriend....HA!

  7. OH NO what a bummer I have a fundraising event that i have to run that night. :(

I agree Gigiofca. There do seem to be a a lot of sales lately and I have never seen this many at back to school time. It feels like it is still July!

  8. I won't be going since I don't live near any of those stores, but I do appreciate all the incentives that BR, GAP, and other retailers have been offering to shoppers lately. It makes sense to give consumers a good deal when they are so hesitant to purchase at all right now. :)

  9. audrey, gap, inc is still a very profitable company, even if their comparable store sales are down from previous years. So I wouldn't worry about them going out of business anytime soon. :)

  10. kirbydog - I agree. The merchandise seems like a rehash of previous designs. I'm over the puff sleeve already! The colors are nice and rich, but the merchandising is not helping things. They seem so sad on the hangers.

  11. anon at 9:38: Thanks, I agree. Well, I'm not *that* worried since they have all my DH's money LOL! He's a BR boy through and through...And my kids still are fans of Gap Kids.

I actually had Gap stock in it's heyday and it treated me well. They've weathered quite a lot, but they are still pretty strong, I agree!

  12. Audrey: I agree, I made money on my Gap shares this year, up 5% year-on-year versus a drop of 49% for my JCrew stock. There might be further trouble ahead since a Goldman Sachs analyst commented that "while service issues are being addressed, the core problem has not been resolved". For JCrew stockholders, hang in there, it will be a bumpy ride.
