Jax, Surfside & others have pointed out an excellent observation (in the "Article on J.Crew's Apology & Stock Price" and "Article on J.Crew Accessories" posts) that needs its own dedicated post.
They all recently received an email about paying J.Crew's credit card online. The following is a portion of the email sent:
"To increase your payment choices, we are making some important changes to your J.Crew bill payment options. You may continue to use the online payment scheduling feature, which allows you to schedule your payment up to 30 days at no charge, or after September 2, 2008, you may choose to PAY TODAY for a $10 fee."
So it sounds as though J.Crew will charge its credit card customers up to $10 for the privledge to pay their bill online.
For those of you who are J.Crew credit card carriers, is this the new policy for paying online- or is this just when you pay last minute? Is there something more that should be included with this email?
P.S. "Thanks!" to Jax, Surfside & others for pointing out this email. Also, I really believe that J.Crew credit card customers deserve better perks. (Refer to Calling all J.Crew Credit Card Customers post.) :)
I have not received the email, but it looks like they will charge you $10 for a smae day payment, as in if your bill is due on the 30th and you decide to pay the bill on the 30th. Some of my other credit card companies do this as well. Plan accordingly.

I have received the email, and I assumed that it was a fee for anyone wishing to pay on the same day the bill is due, so that it won't be late. Am I wrong? Does anyone know?
ReplyDeletePaying online is free as always.
ReplyDeleteThe fee is for last minute, same day payments. Many card companies do this.
Let's get this straight.
ReplyDeleteIt's not J.Crew that is doing it. It's the bank that issues the J.Crew card. The same bank issues the Victoria's Secret card. I got the same email from VS, too.
Guess it costs more to process the payment the same day. All you have to do is plan accordingly so you don't have to pay $10 just to pay your bill.
I agree...this sounds as if it cost $10 to pay the same day, and as long as you schedule your payment ahead of time it should be free as always...my Credit Card company does this, but they charge $15 for same day payment.
ReplyDeletethat makes sense...thank you for these responses! :) i just started using my card again to get points...
ReplyDeleteNOOOO... that option is for people whose bill is DUE that day.. and for a $10.00 fee they can do so w/o receiving a late payment FEE and any action being taken on their credit report. That FEE is an administrative fee for rushing your payment that day. If you don't want the FEE.. pay before your due date. Its really a good thing.. in case you forget to pay your bill.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes. Now I understand. I was confused by the wording as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is new and it completely sucks!
ReplyDeleteI am not always good at scheduling my payments ahead of time... I like to do it when I remember to do it. But I guess I will have to now :(
I got this same email and just trashed it right away. I think it is mainly talking about people paying "same day" that will get this extra charge. Either way, I think it's ridiculous and another way to nickel and dime us. But hey, doesn't bother me. I use my bill pay feature at my bank. Take that, J Crew.
ReplyDeleteETA: So it's the bank that is dictating this fee? Whatever. Take that WFNNB!
i usually use the bill pay feature at my bank also...;)
ReplyDeleteI think it's ridiculous the amount of fees credit cards charge you these days. And the way they add up! If you're not careful, one slip can cost you hundreds of dollars.
ReplyDeleteHow about the same day in store payment? Does the fee apply or is for online payments only?
ReplyDeleteI guess I am just trying to understand the trigger for the fee. Is it the payment on the due date (no matter which way) or the payment on the due date using their website. I use my own bank to schedule the online payments, sometimes I pay cash in the store. I have the J.Crew card but haven't received any e-mails regarding this fee.
ReplyDeletei don't have the credit card but i shop there a lot. what are the perks? do you think its worth it to get the card?
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you all know that I am a J. Crew associate and I love your blog! I think it is great to see what customers are saying about our products and our companies. The corporate offices do indeed know about the blog, and I've even heard rumors that it has been discussed during company conference calls. Someone told me that they have a representative check it every day. Just a heads up, some (not all) stores will begin receiving the new month's inventory as early as next week!
ReplyDeleteOkay, that sort of makes more sense now. I still don't understand the fee for same day processing, but whatever. I have a citibank master card and if I pay before 2pm, it automatically gets posted the same day sans fee. I am not impressed with J. Crew's credit card company.
ReplyDeleteI know this is off topic but was just wondering if anybody has purchased the Amelia Tank which is on for $19.99 right now, just wondering if anybody can comment on sizing and/or what its like in real life. Is it work appropriate i.e. under a suit?
ReplyDeletebkp:
ReplyDeleteThere not really any good perks... I have a card but when I make purchases I typically pay it right back after a week or so... I just have it to get the quarterly gift cards. I also like it because I can keep up w/ my jcrew spending better. I don't like to give them to much $ from shopping online.. those shipping charges are outrageous.
I hope that I misunderstood and that the charge applies only if you want same-day credit. I did not understand the e-mail at all.
ReplyDeleteI just opened a JCrew CC this past weekend, I always pay all my bills by mail BEFORE whatever due date is on the bill. Will I be able to do this with the Crew card without penalty?
ReplyDeleteI have another question about the J.Crew CC: If I don't use it for half a year, do I get charged fees for inactivity? I am going overseas soon and don't expect I'll be doing much shopping since I won't be able to try anything on, so will I be charged for having a card but not using it?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. I unknowingly had a J. Crew credit account for about 7 years before I started using it. I had thought they denied me (the rep said they sent out the wrong letter by mistake), but they just never sent out the card.
ReplyDeleteThanks anon@6:25! :)
ReplyDeleteI love J Crew too, but I just called customer service to state that I was not happy with this change and wished to make a complaint. I'm also going to send a complaint letter to J Crew. We should not have to pay a fee to pay our bill. And although the card is issued thru WFNNB; J Crew, Inc., has the means to reverse this decision and not nickel and dime their loyal customers.
ReplyDeleteI work for WFNNB and wanted to just confirm that this fee is only if you want to have the payment posted on the day you make it, regardless of when it's due. Although most people don't call in to have it posted on the same day unless it's due that day. When you pay online you do have the ability to schedule your payments ahead of time. So you can go online when you get your bill and schedule your payment to be made on the due date without any fees!
ReplyDeleteHowever it is generally measured worth paying such price as they can actually get better one's credit score. credit cards
