J.Crew Stores: 40% Off & New Markdowns

A big "thanks!" to webbysuzy in the "Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?" post who shared with us that her Manhattan J.Crew store (on Madison Avenue) is having an extra 40% off their markdown items AND they have new items in the markdown sale.

The SA told webbysuzy that the 40% off sale began this past Monday afternoon. Although, it is not clear whether this sale is just at that store, or nationwide, you may consider checking out your local store to see if they are as well! ;)

Webbysuzy was even kind enough to post a list of those new items:
  • Batik turtle clea tank (Item 94197) at $49.99
  • Slub cotton tunic top (Item 95603) at $34.99
  • V-neck cotton fitted tee (Item 92100) at $9.99
  • Flamenco dot marguerite dress (Item 93603) at $199.99
  • Lux knit gathered tees (Item 97245) at $39.99
Do you think you will stop by your local J.Crew to see what's new in the sale section? If so, please share what goodies there are at your store! :)

P.S. Thank you so much for sharing webbysuzy!

  1. Hi,

I just came back from my b&m store (NJ) and here's what I found out:

-Mickey is going to be visiting there next week and so the XS shirt (on the mannequin) that was the last one of the store I could not have. :-(

    - That 20% coupon that was given to jenn_brak (I think!) for in-store savings - is only for people who has problems with the returns from the web...or something like that -according to the manager. I got some long story that didn't make sense. This store often is always not so helpful- except for a few SA's!

    - There was a BEAUTIFUL, I repeat, BEAUTIFUL cashmere button down sweater that I was ready to purchase - when I ask the SA - he tells me that it is a SAMPLE (whispered to me really!). I mean -WHAT? How could you do that to someone.... But I did get to find out about what it's called. BRINKLEY. Oh, I do hope they begin selling it soon...It's really purrty!

    :-)

Okay, that's it for now. And yes, this one has some items still on 40% off.

  2. I was in my store today and they did have the extra 40% off on sale items, and they had put more in the sale section....I'm thinking they were either returns to the store, or they still had them in the back. Anyaways, the Silky Jersey Pleated tops had been marked down, and were in the 40% off section, too. The manager price adjusted the two that I had purchased on Sunday to show the extra amount off, and I purchased 3 more off of the website...all at $17.85 each. YAY!!! I also purchased 3 pair of bermuda shorts at $16 each, and the metallic leather bow belt in pale gold for $14. I also bought the Flare Jeans in Dark Indigo Wash, but think I am returning them since I was able to get the 5 pocket trouser jeans off the web with the extra discount and free ship (I already have a pair but they are too big now). I also purchased some tanks at $3 and $5 each. All in all, it was a great trip. :)

On another note...today I received my Serengeti Skinny Belt. My cropped chinos and Serengeti Capri Sandals are scheduled to arrive tomorrow, per the WORKING UPS tracking number. Pretty exciting! :)

  3. I was in my b&m yesterday and they had the extra 40% off. Not much was left from summer, though.

    ReplyDelete
  4. FFM, how do you get the extra discount and the free ship on one order? Did you call it in?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Eddie & Stretch's Mama: Yes, I called it in...she initially quoted me the total with shipping, but then I said I have the code SHOP for free shipping, and she applied it to the order. The store did not have the jeans in my size today, but did have the 40% off on sale, so I asked the rep for it. She said I can apply it, but that it will make the jeans Final Sale...I took the discount. :)

  6. Hi everyone, I was at the Rockerfeller and SOHO Jcrew stores today and they had the 40% off as well. I tried on the Lux knit gathered tees in XS, but it was like a tent for me, except it felt tight around the arms.
I also tried on the linen beach cardigan. Almost bought it, but later decided that I was not so crazy about it. That being said, it looked good on one of the associates, who was wearing it over a crispy white shirt and a pencil skirt.

  7. Thanks, FFM! No wonder I felt like J.Crew was calling to me after work today....I'll HAVE to pass by tomorrow! ;)

  8. Has anyone heard of the Lana skirt? I know there was a Lana top (polka dot sleeveless) recently but today I bought a skirt from J.Crew and the receipt calls it the "Stretch wool Lana pencil skirt." It's on the thin side, but simply cut and lined, with two back slits. My store isn't that big so I can't imagine it's just in mine, but no one seems to mention things that I've found in my store so I thought I'd ask. :)

Also, my store had the Lucille boucle jacket (so pretty! I wish the yellow color didn't have the lime green tint, I'd totally buy it) and the crazy berry jacket from the Look Book. The ends of the ribbon on the berry jacket looked extremely frayed, which I thought made it look cheap looking. Plus, the berries didn't help for me, as that's not my style. :) But I bet others could pull it off with panache.

  9. Anybody has gotten the Domino jacquard cropped jacket? What do you think about it? I haven't seen it in the stores lately, but it's on sale online. At 129.99, it is still a bit pricey even if I get the 40% discount, but I'm thinking about it.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ooh I really want one of the Silky Jersey Pleated tops but I am hesitant to do the online pm dance, ie sit on hold for 20min only to be told no..

    ReplyDelete
  11. Btw I got my first Fall order today :) Received the denim pencil skirt, perfect scoop tee in peacock, open crewneck sweater in plum, and black patent wide belt today. They are all wondeful! I'll have to get the skirt hemmed but it fits great otherwise. The scoop tee is awesome, does not scoop too low or wide (I sized up 2 sizes so it wouldn't be clingy in the belly). I was surprised to see the patent wide belt does not have any holes. But this is great because it is endlessly adjustable

  12. Can someone tell me what color Sea Salt is? The silky jersey T's come in Sea Salt and White and I can't really tell the difference.

  13. I'm so annoyed...I purchased the same 5 pocket trouser jeans as FMM today at my local J Crew and they were not on sale. What should I do? I live over 45 min from my store and don't want to waist my time or gas?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sorry, ffm not fmm. I am so annoyed that I OVER paid I can't even type properly.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Does anyone know how much the Silky Jersey Pleated tops are in the store?( & if they fit true to size or are a bit baggy) I live three hours away from a b&m, and plan to go this weekend, but I am worried that they will sell out at the discounted price ( I am loving the honey glaze and weathered stone). Thanks for your help.

    ReplyDelete
  16. WebbySuzy: Are those prices you listed WITH the additional 40% off, or before? I need to know what my bargaining power is when I call to get a price adjustment on the marguerite dress. Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. hi again.

okay my toddler is in bed so i'm goin to catch up on the blong.

    ReplyDelete
  18. hi ashley. those are the new marked down prices before the additional 40% off.

  19. jacqueline, sea salt is a very light off-white. Not cream colored, but not white-white.

FFM, did you call in the pleated tank order from the red phone in order to get the store price? They are still price on the website...

  20. OT, but I just wanted to let webbysuzy that I got my giraffe necklace!! It is just as beautiful as I thought and how you guys described it to be. =)

I can't wait to start wearing it, especially wrapped twice - that look is so sexy, I think. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I received my red phone order from last Friday night today. I got three amelia tanks for $10.79 each and the flamenco dot popover for $20.xx. They let an associate come on the phone and confirm the 40% off.

I wrote down all the items I wanted before driving to the store. I included the item numbers, sizes, colors, etc. to make it really easy for the rep on the phone. He also let the SA in store confirm my educator discount.

If you are going to try to order via red phone for the 40% off, please do yourself a favor and have the item numbers. It makes it a lot easier for the rep on the phone which in turn will give you a better chance of having it all work out smoothly ;o)

  22. I was in Baltimore Harbor B&M today and got the best service ever. Tried tons of items: did not love Ecole at all, loved Dream ruffle herringbone cardigan (needed to downsize to XS),loved Crystal-button bird's-eye cardigan. In addition to what weebysuzy listed, my store carried Florentine capris, linen dresses and sweaters, tons of Silky jersey pleated tops (need to downsize as well, too tent-y), metallic jackard minis, heathered french market tees, and metallic belts.
I walked out with metallic belt in gold ($15.29), silky jersey shell in Navy ($17.85),heathered french market tee in grey ($12.74), and v-neck tee in navy ($5.09).
All discounts were applied ( 40% off + educator's), no questions asked, bottle of water offered, everything with a smile, even though I returned some expensive jewelry. Great experience!

The order I have placed on Saturday with that 30% off glitch arrived today. Price reflected the discount and later I was given educator's discount on top of that ( I called last night, 10 pm, no wait, Angela was super sweet). I got some grat deals, will post later on that.

Overall, I noticed significant improvement in CS recently, or maybe just luck.:)

  23. Eddie and stretch's momma:
    congrats on giraffe. Awesome buy!
I have returned new green flower encrusted beads today ( decided I can wait for sale), but got ladybug necklace and bracelet last saturday in a store. Wearing them almost every day, love them, love them, love them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Okay, so I just want to make sure, since I have never done this before, and some of you are more experienced in this than I am. Anyhow...

So, I am in Dallas. I needed the Flamenco-Dot Marguerite dress in a size 0, which was not available online, nor in the Dallas area. I called all around, and was finally able to get it at the B&M J. Crew in Easthampton on Monday. I looked at my credit card statement, and was charged for the full price ($315), minus a 10% student discount (nobody seems to know yet about the 15%).

Once I get that dress and receipt in my hot little hand, what is the best way for me to go about getting a price adjustment? Do I call the J. Crew where I had the dress shipped from, and tell them that the Madison Avenue store has the dress for $199, plus 40% off? Plus that I need my full 15% student discount? Or do I call J. Crew customer service? Will anybody care? Will this actually work?

    Thanks in advance!

  25. e&s momma: hey! glad you got your Giraffe Necklace:) i actually gave my giraffe a name: Geoffrey (the toys r us mascot) LOL

i'm looking online and there are definately new items in the sale/clearance section. some items that i want are catalog/jcrew.com only items. i think the cs would never give me any other discount since these items don't normally appear in the b&m stores. i'm thinking of biting the bullet and ordering by web. at least i'll have free shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Slastena, it sounds like you had a great J.Crew day! I would make that long trek to the Baltimore Harbor store if only to break the monotony of going to Pentagon and Tysons. LOL! I agree with you on the Ecole (velvet) and as well on the cardigans you mention - the dream ruffle herringbone cardigan and the crystal-button bird's-eye cardigan. I also love the Crystal-button colorblock cardigan. So tempting to get them all full price!

The ladybug necklace is adorable! I'm so glad you're wearing them everyday! ;) I'm going to find a way to wear my giraffe almost everyday. Heehee.

I DEFINITELY have to drop by a B&M store sometime this week (note to self: tomorrow!).

    ReplyDelete
  27. ashley: there is a policy that if you bought an item at full price and within seven days of the retail purchase, there was a price change, j crew will honor the new markdown price and whatever promotion comes along. once you receive the dress and the sales slip, head on over to your local b&m store.

so based on the dress you should get at least $119.40 and whatever your tax is. if you also get the student discount, it should be $101.49 plus your local tax. that would be a great deal, and of course 119.40 isn't that bad if they can't combine.

oh and since you did buy it at full price, i hope they didn't charge you shipping and handling.

    good luck:)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi, Could anyone let us know how many sizes they had to size down in the Silky Jersey Pleated Top? ( Is it automatically final sale of they honor the 40% off)

  29. Eddie adn Stretches momma:

  31. You know what I've had my eye on? That paintbrush floral belle skirt. I can totally see myself wearing that with my giraffe necklace! (With the appropriate top, of course! LOL!)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh you mean the Watercolor Floral Schoolgirl Skirt in blue? Yeah, I bought that today. I also ordered the Floral Twisted Placket Shirt. I'm re-creating that look on page 44 in the Look Book.

    ReplyDelete
  33. E&Ss momma: I ordered the paintbrush floral belle skirt and its supposed to arrive on Friday. I'll let you know what it's like when it arrives.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks so much, WebbySuzy! What would I do without you? I am eternally grateful! With the money I'll save, I can now buy a wool herringbone Fiona jacket! I just hope I end up liking the dress in the next size down. I wish my local B&Ms still had summer merchandise available, but they are totally stocked for fall.

By the way ladies, if you are in need of a good suit, or just some nice pants, I suggest you act now and snap up some of the fine wool gabardine pieces that are still available in the final sale. I really adore the wool gabardine; I prefer it actually over the Super 120s, because it looks more crisp and polished, and never looks wrinkled. I already had a suit in navy, and I went ahead and got the one button jacket and city fit pants in black, as well as the pants in Rye. I think price is right for the quality...

    ReplyDelete
  35. ashley: I just bought the Ludlow super 120's wide leg and they are at the tailor's being hemmed. At the retail stores, it's marked at 49.99 plus the 40% off two weeks ago. The store didn't have my size, so I called with the red phone and asked to price match if they have any color in my size. Sure enough they do, but of course I had to pay shipping because it's a sale item, Nevertheless, the pants are really nice.

I'm now looking at the City fit Prima stretch wool in pinstripe. It's 39.99 online.

I think the Fiona Herringbone Jacket is going to be a coveted item, because it's not in the Look Book, or online. It's an retail exclusive item

    ReplyDelete
  36. anon@10:24: the 5 pocket trouser jeans ARE on sale on the website for $78, and since the stores are having the addt'l. 40% off on SALE items, the rep on the phone agreed to do a price match, but the jeans are now FINAL SALE, due to that extra discount. Try calling in the order over the phone and ask that you receive the extra 40% off...most stores seem to be having that promo, and my store is at Mall of Millenia in Orlando. 407-226-9732. GOOD LUCK! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. anon@10:29: The Silky Jersey Pleated Tops are $34.99 in the store plus and additional 40% off...they run big, so size down at least one size. I bought an XS, but would get them in XXS, if they made them that size. ;)

cass: Yes, the SA at the store placed the order for the other 3 silky jersey pleated tops over the red phone, and told the rep about the sale price and my educator.

Btw everyone: the manager at my store said that they truly ARE charging shipping for sale items ordered on the red phone, even IF you are purchasing a full price item with it. Although, it's supposedly being charged PER SALE ITEM at a lower price, so you are still getting an overall lower shipping price from the red phone...not sure on that one, as she told the rep to waive my shipping charges on the order. (I hadn't been home and didn't know about the SHOP code).

    ReplyDelete
  38. slastena: CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so glad everything went so smoothly with all your purchases today...we bought a couple of the same items, actually, and at the same price, too. ;)

anon@11:25: I would size down at least one size in the Silky Jersey Pleated Tops, as they run big, and yes...if you get the extra 40% then it makes your purchase Final Sale. I wear a Small in the Favorite Tank, Medium in the T-Shirts, but an XS in the Silky Jersey Pleated Tops.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Slastena - how do you wear your ladybug necklace/bracelet? I ask b/c I have the Double Strand Jewelled Starburst necklace and am not sure what to do it with it since the colour is so bright! Do you have any styling suggestions? FFM, what about you, your normally so good with stuff like this :)

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  40. You guys are making me want lots and lots of stuff! You all have had some great deals... E and S momma-congrats on the Giraffe, keep us posted on how you wear him/her :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. a: With the Starburst Necklace I would personally keep my outfit understated with neutral colors and let the necklace be the focal point. It is the yellow Lemon Drop color, correct? You could even pair it with pants in Yellow and a white or cream top...that would be really cute. It would look good with khakis, gray pants, navy, as well. I would keep your top a muted, neutral color so there isn't any conlict with the necklace. It's a really pretty piece! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. hey everyone. the code Shop didn't work for me this morning:(

  43. A;
here are some ideas on Polyvore how to wear the ladybug bracelet/necklace combo. Hope it helps. I like that it single -stranded, but I actually double-wrap it so it's more of a chocker.

  45. Need help from all you pros...I'm about to order online. What discounts work together? Is there still EXTRA30 online? Can I use SHOP with an educator's discount? Is there additional % off online? If I call in the order can I ask for a % off? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  46. My local JC had hardly anything in the sale section. But, I did use the red phone to order three sale items I'd seen online, and I was able to get 40% by having a store associate get on the phone and confirm that in-store sale items were currently that percentage off.

Also, I tried to use the ship2389 code for free shipping, but the CS rep said it didn't work. Then when I asked about adding a full-price item to get free shipping, she said I'd only get free shipping for THAT item -- the sale items would still be charged. I was surprised by that -- you're telling me you're going to ship my items in two separate boxes? Ridiculous. She finally said (after leaving me on hold for ten minutes -- eight of which were probably just those "I'm annoyed with this customer so will make her wait" minutes) that as a one-time courtesy, she's give me free shipping. She seemed rather irritated from the start of the conversation -- other reps have been so much nicer.

So that's all -- just wanted to mention about phoning in sale items from the store and asking for the 40% off. One of the items I ordered is a cute silk clutch, in rhubarb -- with the contrasting front stripe/bow in a brighter pink color. Originally $98, on sale (after additional percent off) for $17!!! Happy shopping all :)

  47. HI all- the V-neck cotton fitted T is actually 9.99, I bought it last night (it came to 4 dollars!). Thank you MMiller for taking me on a surprise shopping trip to our favorite store!

The linen-silk beach cardigans were on sale for $69.99. There were a lot of city fit-capris, lots of white denim (both boot cut and trouser), linen v-neck sweaters.

Note the luxe knit gathered tees were huge! I tried on an xs and I was swimming it in. But I am wearing the beaded tee today and I am thinking of my best friend who I still miss very much!

  51. I went to 2 of my local stores in Mass. over the past week. Last Saturday, sale items were an extra 40% off. Monday night I went to a different store: no extra 40% off - they had a decent selection of stretch bermuda shorts but they were still $29.99.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I just used the SHOP code for free shipping and it worked. I ordered the vintage stretch cord skirt in honey glaze, the elizabeth halter in soft azalea and the stretch chino skirt in black.
And my Katie sweater I ordered last Thursday came in yesterday. I really like it!

  53. FFM;

blumre: I went to the site last night, and I got the Yoga intro. Maybe they're changing it up every once in a while?

Anon @ 8:07: If you order online, I don't think there's no way you can combine codes. However, if you call your order in and ask the CS rep to apply more than one code, they'll most likely combine the codes for you. ;) And I don't there's an additional % online...none that I've seen. =(

  57. Hey, I noticed that the gold version of the peacock necklace disappeared from the website. It was called opera length some-thing-err-other. Anyone know where it went? I wanted to buy it. :(

    ReplyDelete
  58. Weab and E&S's momma: I just received my paintbrush floral belle skirt and I love it! The shape is very flattering, and the colors are great for fall. The colors are not very feminine, but this is still a very feminine skirt. I like that about it.

I am so happy with this skirt :) I think you will be too, weab. E&S's Momma, if you are ordering the skirt, I would order it to fit your waist. I am a 6 in the pencil skirts because of my hips and thighs (need to have the waist nipped a bit), but my waist is a size 4. I went with the 4, and it is perfect. I hope they come out with other fall colors in the Belle skirt, like maybe a plum. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

    ReplyDelete
  59. blumre: Do you mean the opera-length gold-ring necklace? And it does look like it's disappeared into J.Crew oblivion... =(

  64. ok here is a question, i want to order a sale item online that is online/catalog only... any chance i could call in into CS and ask for the 40%? i wouldn't mind if i couldn't combine it, but 40% is a ton! thanks all!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. jen k: I'm not sure how the discount works for online/catalog only orders...the only real way to know for sure is to call and ask for it...the worst they can say is no, but it would be FABULOUS if they actually say yes! Hopefully you will get a really great rep...let us know how it turns out. :) Good Luck!

  66. What are you all wearing with the paintbrush floral belle skirt? Any Polyvore sets for that skirt? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  67. anon @11:40: I have a couple of sets for the skirt: Click Here and Here . I actually saw this skirt in the store yesterday, and think it would be gorgeous with a black turtleneck or sweater and black knee boots this Fall/Winter. It will also look really pretty with that Dark Slate (Gray) color that is so prevelant at J.Crew right now, too.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks for posting those links, FFM! I noticed that you used the Dani peacoat; I love that piece! I actually bought one last year but gave it to my sister. =) I hope they come out with a similar coat this winter season! (And I love how you always seem to incorporate yellow in your sets! I love yellow too!)

    ReplyDelete
  69. eddie & stretch's momma: You are welcome!!! :) Does your sister still have the coat? Maybe you could "borrow" it back. ;)

  70. FFM: I wish I could, only she's way up the White North of Canada and I'm here in the sticky heat of the south. =P She'll probably need it more. LOL!

  71. Does anyone know if I can just call in with an order (not from the store) and ask for 40% off (to match store's discount) and use the free shipping code too?

  73. blumre: That's my necklace that's lost along with the package of tartines, belle skirt and jeweled jelly flats. I'm furious!!! It's the last piece, and even a search in the stores turned up zilch!

    ReplyDelete
  74. OH No Vivian! That is so depressing! Does the necklace still even exist? That is so weird. I am so sorry to hear that. Let us know if you hear anything.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Well, they said they shipped it on 7/26 but it still shows "billing info received." Everything else in the package is replaceable except for that necklace that I've been eyeing for months. I've called so many times to find the necklace but it completely sold out online and in the stores. Nothing on ebay either. I'm heartbroken!

I prefer this antique gold instead of different colors in the peacock version.

One CS rep even had the cheek to tell me it is being loaded to the UPS truck as we spoke. I guess she was trying to placate me!! I was that angry!

  76. vivian it wasn't even online for that long. Was it? I am bummed that there are none left. That sucks

    ReplyDelete
  77. It's a weird piece. It was seen on so many of the models in the catalogs but made its appearance online sporadically, as you noticed too. So when it came on again one day, I pounced! Alas, my luck didn't hold.

  78. With the 40%, I couldn't resist and phoned in my order. I got the the Las Palmas bag, Quincy top, Florentine sweater, the wool gabardine suit jacket, pants and pencil skirt, Ludlow pants, Clementina jacket, a few of the Baird McNutt Georgia jackets, and more silky jersey tops. Quite a sweet deal. Got free shipping too.

    ReplyDelete
  79. vivian: be sure to review the las palmas bag for us!

    ReplyDelete
  80. blumre: I will! If this package doesn't get lost...

PS: I love your skiing pix! Where was it taken?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Vivian: their issues seem to be getting better I think this package should be ok. Though you seem to have been dealt a rough hand with JCrew.

It was taken at Stratton in Vermont on Lower down easter which is an awesome trail with spectacular double fall line and for some reason there is never anyone on it!

  82. anon @ 12:35: I called in an order today and they had to call the store to verify the sale price and 40% off. The CS (super nice - thanks, Katlyn) also gave me the teacher's discount plus free shipping! :) While it wasn't a big purchase (can't make any more of those until I get paid again), it was something I'd been watching (slub cotton tunic top), so I'm happy.

    ReplyDelete
  83. vivian: I am so sorry that your order is still missing! Especially since most of the items were new. Hopefully, your package including the necklace will be found SOON.

    ReplyDelete
  84. No sale items for me. I ordered the cricket sweater in the picture with my post last week and get this they only have large and extra large left. Small and medium are already sold out. Luckily my medium will be here in the next couple of days.

Today I ordered two merino wool sweaters, both v necks. One in navy, the other heather carbon. I also picked up a Glen check wool tie and a pair of Italian slim suit pants in charcoal flannel. The pants were already sold out in my size so I'm wait listed.

With the website's sale selection so poor I had to hit the new stuff. I'm glad I did as it seems to be selling quickly. I'll post how it looks as it arrives.

  85. vivian-i have been eyeing the las palmas bag, what color did you get? does an actual store have it with the 40%?
slastena-as a jewelry freak I am going to check out forever21, it looks cute on your polyvore sets

OT-for the split second they had athe 30% off on line on sat, I ordered the coppelle paisley san telmo, anyone have it? it's like the polka dot except that loud paisley, it's SO pretty though, I love it!!! with on orange tank and my stone keaton pants I am so happy! too bad there it's just me and an old man in the office today and no one to appreciate it!

    ReplyDelete
  86. blumre-i ski stratton all the time!

    ReplyDelete
  87. caw: I don't have the jacket, but I loved the paisley print. Unfortunately, it just made me look orange (which is unusual b/c I wear other orange). I'm sure you're super cute in it, though. :) I was NOT happy it didn't work b/c I was prepared to pay fp for it. Oh well, saved my money for other stuff that day.

    ReplyDelete
  88. thanks for your "props" math teacher! my fiance may tell me i look like his grandmother, I guess bold prints conjure up that memory and he does not have the jcrew eye....but it is super cute, I can see how the orange might be overpowering, I am usually okay in that color though. I paid 63$ I think after all was said and done, I waited and waited and waited, too bad it's a bit sticky out today

    ReplyDelete
  89. Caw: I grew up racing there and my father had a condo up there for years! Since MMiller is from VT we go up all the time and ski either there or Okemo! How funny is that?!? You and I have a lot of similarities.

    ReplyDelete
  90. blumre-I know, I feel like I am stalking you:) That's really cool that you raced, I was more recreational but we always loved it there. Now my parents have a place in Manchester, so we ski, the we shop! It's great. I love Vt!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Thank you, thank you for posting about the 40% off. I went to the Michigan Avenue store this afternoon and called in my order from the red phone. The CS rep honored the extra 40% off (even on my two catalog only items) but would not let me use the SHOP code for free shipping. She said it was either 40% off or free shipping. The shipping was a lot, of course, but I can't wait to get my cardigans!

    ReplyDelete
  92. CAW: Oh manchester is a great town!! I do love it up there! I am thinking of hitting the stratton tent sale over labor day weekend! I need new all mountain skis. My race skis are great but they do nothing for me (in fact they usually get stuck they are so stiff) when I want to hit the bumps and they always sink in powder!

Southern VT is just the best!

    ReplyDelete
  93. blumre-yes, great food too!I am sure you have been to the Equinox! I finally upgraded from my 1988 skiis a few years ago...but I tend to avoid bumps! I love Southern VT too..you are making me want winter..

    ReplyDelete
  94. Caw: The equinox is great. There is a lot of good food there. I love Lillian's and Bistro Henri. I just hate driving over Bromely at night! I have seen some terrible accidents on that road.

Oh I know I am famous for wanting snow the minute the leaves start falling off the trees. I hate hot weather! Bleh!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Ok, this may seem like a bit of a dumb question, but how can one take advantage of the red phone with the final sale? Do you all take down what you'd like from online and then go in a b&m and go straight to the red phone?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Eddie & Stretch's momma: I first called my b&m and asked if the item was on sale and if they had it in my size (I already knew they didn't). Then, I asked if it would be easier for me to call or to have her (sa) order for me. She told me to call. So, I did and asked about the 40% off and told her that the b&m didn't have what I wanted. The CS put me on hold and called the store, and then honored the price. If you don't want to make the trip to your b&m, then I'd just call. I talked to Katelyn (sp) and she gave me the 40%, plus 15%, plus free shipping with SHOP.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Eddie and Stretch's momma: Tired Memphian said that she wrote down the item #'s ahead of time and that it helped on the red phone, just in case you want to make the trip (and try on new clothes! :P).

    ReplyDelete
  98. math_teacher & tired memphian: Thank you! Off to the site I go to jot down what I'd like! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  99. E&SM: Noo point to using the red phone with sale--- you dont get free shipping on sale items from the red phone anymore :(

    ReplyDelete
  100. D'oh! I didn't think about that.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Eddie and Stretch's momma: If you call from home, ask for Katelyn. She honored the 40% (after a call to b&m), 15%, plus free shipping with SHOP. It's worth a try.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Shipping and order update: UPS just came and so did my order from Sunday evening...both items! I received the Cropped Chinos in White and the Serengeti Capri Sandals...YAY!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  103. caw: I got the bag in three colors. I assume they are 40% off in the stores...

Congrats on the copelle paisley san telmo! It's so pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  104. vivian-that's awesome! i can't decide which color...you made me want all three :) I am leaning toward the gold..I always get things dirty though! Let me know about the quincy top, I am also eyeing that... thanks about the san telmo, I know you are a polka dot san telmo girl!!!

  105. Are the luxe gathered tee & the flowy jersey bateau dress both summer items? I will be traveling to Santa Barbara next week and I called them and asked them to hold some items for me. The SA (Courtney who was so very nice!) said that those were summer items and have been sent back already. But she did put back the Batik turtle clea tank for me!! I was surprised that they were willing to hold the items for over a week for me! Yay!!!

    ReplyDelete
  106. I went to my B&M store last night (South Coast Plaza in CA) and they had 40% off sale. I mentioned the 20% off discount for those with web issues and they gave me that on top of the 40 so I got 60% off a few great deals (helena pave sandals for $40!). The 20% wasn't a postcard. They just scanned a barcode at the register.

When you call from the red phone, is that like ordering from the web? If so, I'm tempted to go back today on a shopping frenzy!

Oh one more thing, I've seen comments about the starlet jacket. I think you have to be careful with the buttons because they are made out of rhinestone. The button holes on the jackets were all frayed from people trying it on. And the pink color is really bright!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Anonymous@1003: did your store have the Gold or Fuschia Helena Pave Sandals? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  108. I got them in pink. It was the last pair and although I already have them in gold, I thought why not with 60% off!

    ReplyDelete
  109. I got them in pink. It was the last pair and although I already have them in gold, I thought why not with 60% off!

  110. Well I don't know where to put this, but I went back to a b&m today. Pleasanton, CA. I was told there was a 'secret sale' on the new wool Fiona. This is the mysterious jacket that was later identified in a thread a week or so ago. I got an orange sherbert-type color and the price was $158 from $198. There is also gray and pink rhubarb. Don't know the color names but I'm sure I'll learn them.
I worked with Jenn and she is awesome. Another stellar experience at a b&m.

This is getting scary. I went in for one v-neck merino, which I didn't get and ended up purchasing $275 in other items. Umm...not to mention that I spent $120 on line before I went to work this morning.

Hey -- how do you think the shoe sizes run? I am looking at the peeptoe patent mary jane (sale) and can't decide if I should size up. Anyone....anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  111. gigiofca: I tried on the wool Fiona earlier this week and I want it so bad!!! They only had the grey color at my store and it is so cute! Any idea how I can get it for the sale price? Should I just go to my b&m and ask about the "secret sale"?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Gigiofca, I have the patent peep toe and I think it runs TTS. It's not a particularly generous or comfortable fit, but I did not find a reason to size up. BTW I don't mean that it's unusually uncomfortable or anything--about what you'd expect with a high heel.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Gigiofca: I got the patent mary janes in my usual size, and found it so uncomfortable. The opening was cutting into my toes, and my toes were portruding a tad too much. I exchanged it for a half size larger and found that although it helped, the style just wasn't flattering. I'm only 5' 4" and the strap "cuts" my legs and make me look shorter. Hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Linda and gigofca: I am so confused by J.Crew's pricing. :) I bought the Fiona Wednesday and it rang up for full price (198). However, I saw whispers of it being on sale on the blog so I called the other store in my area and asked if they had it in my size. When they said yes, I asked the price and the woman promptly said, "It's on promotion for $168." So I don't know if I just missed the magic window or what. :) But it doesn't seem like it's that secret? Who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  115. caw: I'm leaning toward the platinum gold too, but I'm wary because I have a two-year-old! The CS rep did say that there are just a few of the platinum gold left. What do you think of the yellow and the expresso?

I'll post when I get my Quincy top and other items.

Yes, I love my San Telmo!

    ReplyDelete
  116. FYI, i ordered a final sale item that was catalog/jcrew.com only, but the cs rep who helped me called a store to verify the 40% off and he gave it to me! i had to pay shipping but i didn't mind, i still saved quite a bit! thanks everyone!!!

    ReplyDelete
  117. I got the patent peep toes as well, and found that the patent was very stiff and cut into my toes giving me blisters. I used those foam strappy strips to put inside of the opening so hopefully that will help since I can't return them now. But if you think you might be susceptible to blisters you might not want to get them.

    ReplyDelete
  118. linda - The gray is really cute. I probably would've chosen that if I didn't have the orange color. Ask for the price adjustment. Be brave!
    Do it within 7 days.

Hexicon - Thanks for the shoe feedback.

Vivian - You helped quite a bit w/shoe feedback. I don't like peep toes and I think I just figured out why. They just don't elongate our legs. I think that's the issue. Adding a strap at the ankle only cuts off more length.

Melanie - I am *also* confused by J.Crew's pricing. I wonder what the magic window is for secret sales. Is it to move the merch? Does it only apply to certain stores? It's a bit unfair to people who aren't told and those who can't go to a b&m.

Anonymous at 5:06 - I tried on the Juliet 96716 in light pumpkin. They are SO pretty in person, very sriking. However, they are stiff, so I see what you're saying. On another note, I love the inserts that you can buy for shoes. I just purchased the insole for the heel only for a pair of sandals. They really saved my feet the other day when I bought them on the fly.

    ReplyDelete
  119. melanie and gigiofca: I find it strange the jacket is already on sale because I saw it for the first time this week. Perhaps like gigiofca said, they do it to move merchandise, which is just silly! In any case, I'm going to check my b&m this weekend to see how much it is. I wish they had the other colors at my store. I bet the orange and pink rhubarb are so cute.

melanie: Which color did you get?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Linda: I got the gray! I know some people have been complaining about the Fiona, but I like it. When I lived in NC, the weather was either hot or cold so I never had to do things like buy light-weight jackets. :) This is doing a great job of plugging in that hole.

    ReplyDelete
  121. melanie: I really like it too, esp in the grey, which is the one I'm planning to get. Its a great light weight jacket! I'm in Seattle and here in the NW, we have all 4 seasons. This will be perfect when fall arrives and its no longer warm out but its too early to wear my wool coats.

  122. Hello - I'm new to this website - but not to J Crew. I am unable to go to this fabulous sale - but I'm serious about finding the Brown Brinkley Cardigan sweater that was offered in the stores only. The item number is 97458. If anyone owns one in any size, I'll pay dearly!!!!! my email is capablanca@aol.com.
