In-Store Sale On Some New Fall Merchandise

So I stopped by one of my local J.Crew's (in South Windsor, CT) and noticed that some of the new fall items are already on sale. I know- I couldn't believe it myself- on sale already! :)

Just like Lisa (in the post "Article on J.Crew Apology"), I saw the Stretch vintage cord peplum jacket (Item 96652; $118.00) on sale for $79.99. Lisa also mentioned that she saw (at the Mission Viejo, CA store) the new Featherweight merino V-neck sweater (Item 96478; $69.50) on sale. ("Thanks!" Lisa for sharing! :) )

Are you surprised to see items on sale so quickly? Also, did you notice any new Fall items on sale in your local J.Crew this week? If so please share and let us know! :)

P.S. The J.Crew in South Windsor, CT had a few Jamie jackets (Item 95244; was $138.00, now $79.99 plus 40% off) for those who may be interested.

  1. In addition to Lisa's discovery on the peplum jackets, these same jackets (in all colors - persimmon, ecru, and navy) were marked down to $79.50 at the Georgetown (Washington, DC) store. (Not so sure why the $0.49 difference.)

  2. Thanks for the "heads up" on those jackets Eddie & Stretch's Momma! :)

  3. I'm kind of surprised! It seems like they've been out for, what, a week? Fast turnaround. :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. Melanie: I am just like you- surprised at how soon the sale was for that jacket! :)

I don't understand if its just a way to get us customers into the stores to look at more items from their Fall collection (kind of like a "loss leader" in marketing).

  5. OK everyone, my DH fell asleep during the X Games which enabled me to sneak past him with my giant J Crew box. Here is what I ordered and my review of each:

Boucle Mohair Lucille jacket: Spicey Mustard is the color listed, but it does not look anything like my Spicey Mustard cashmere sweater. This color is fabulous. I immediately put this in my closet. Got a size 0 and it fit like a dream. I can't waith to wear it!

Petite Double-Serge Tuesday Trench: Deep Persimmon color does not have enough "pop" for me. If you like peacoats then you will probably love this as the buttons are beautiful and the double breasted look is flattering. I think that where I went wrong was getting it in a petite. The belt seemd too high and the sleeves seemed too short. For $275 I just expected more wow factor. This will be going back.

Petite velvet Ecole jacket: Got this in Honey Glaze and the fabric is sumptuously soft and the color is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately I felt stuffed into the size 2P so I will be sending it back and requesting an exchange (either a 4P or a 0 Regular haven't decided yet since I have always worn J Crew jackets in the 2P...go figure). It looked wonderful with my blonde hair which was a big plus.

Hip slung jean: Resin rinsed wash. Love the color, love the fit! Although they aren't trendy I can always count on J Crew jeans to fit and look fashionable at the same time! I actually prefer them to my pricier jeans!

Riviera boatneck tee: Poppy. I plan on wearing this with my Candace jacket (sweet orange) and my khaki shorts and capris.

Unfortunately, I also ordered a beaded tee which was NOT included. I will call CS and see about it tomorrow (or is that today? LOL.)

Oh yes, I also got the skinny patent leather belt in buttercup and it looks wonderful with the Ecole!

  6. I'm not sure about the peplum jackets, but the featherweight merino v-neck sweater is on sale for I think 59.99 at the b&m in Copley Place, Boston. Personally, I don't like the peplum. It just doesn't seem special to me and I never really liked cord jackets.

  7. Has anyone seen Jackie cardigans on sale yet in the stores? And are the new markdowns 40%?

    ReplyDelete
  8. aj: I checked the Jackie cardigan today and they were not on sale yet. There are certain colors on sale online. Also, the additional 40% does not apply to newly marked down items. They're marked down, but not in the sale section as far as I know.

    ReplyDelete
  9. jcrewjunkie - Your items sound great. I have the bootcut jeans without any detailing on the back. They're not fancy at all and I get compliments all the time. They do a nice jean. All this talk about the Ecole. I have to try one on tomorrow.

Your other posts were so funny about wrapping the clothes in the laundry blanket? Was that you? Hysterical. My other fave was the one who kicks the boxes into the bushes.

    ReplyDelete
  10. So, I'm kind of confused. The 5-pocket trouser jeans are on sale online for 78.00, but are still full-price in stores. Is there any way for me to order them and have CS acknowledge the in-store additional 40% off?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sigh. I wish the prices were the same on-line as they are in the stores. Not fair to those of us who don't live near a store. Unlike a lot of Aficionadas, I've had great luck this month with all my on-line sale orders. I've placed 6 orders since the "upgrade" and (knock wood on my last, which hasn't arrived yet) all seems to be going well. Instead, my beef in the last month was the huge variance between on-line and store prices ($180 vs. $37????) and my consequent struggle to get the promised adjustment. Why can't they treat all customers the same? As I wrote them, I often buy full price online but now I am a lot less willing to do so, given that those who live near B&M stores may be getting much better prices. (Never really heard back on this point, other than a note to say that the comment was forwarded to marketing dep't.)

  13. thanks jcrewjunkie for posting your review! very helpful! Sounds like you got some awesome stuff :)

I haven't purchased anything from the fall line yet (waiting for website to get sorted out), but I've got my eye on the Marcella blouse and Hammered silk tank. I'm kinda worried about sizing, does anyone have these yet and think it best to size down?

I think for both the Joelle (blouse and cami) and Amelia tank, the sizing ran large, and I did have to go down, wonder if that's the case for these ones...

    ReplyDelete
  14. jcrewjunkie: i bought the patent leather skinny belts in root and black...i love them!

i also got the featherweight merino v neck for $59-something from the store. was happy to see it marked down...i like that it's fitted and has a perfect length (low hip).

aly: usually you can tell CS that the item is cheaper in the store. they can call the store to verify and give you that price. but since this web fiasco has happened i don't know how willing and able they are to do that effectively :)

also, if you're buying from the store and the item is cheaper on-line, the store SA can call CS to verify and give you the online price.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think it's the .49 difference because, at least in my store, only items that end in .99 are marked down an extra 40%.

I was in my store yesterday here in NJ and there wasn't much on sale. I guess I'll have to go back and have a closer look today.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hmm.. I think I'll make a visit to the b&m J Crew stores this morning and head back with a list of what went on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  17. For those of you who are still looking for the jersey bateau dress, yesterday there were quite a few at the Short Hills Mall store in NJ, in a variety of colors, at 4O% off.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am not surprised that some items are already marked down...the manager at my store said that they received the Fall merchandise early this year, so perhaps the markdowns are starting early, as well. J.Crew needs to offer some kind of incentive to shopping in the store, as opposed to shopping online, where the majority of the really good sales seem to be. Since the web cannot handle too much traffic and too many orders they need to have some deals in store to actually bring in shoppers. That being said...I am contemplating holding off on my solo shopping trip for a week or two...I want to wait until I receive my Andrea and also see if they are truly going to start markdowns on new items. My Factory store is having a big sale and I received an email coupon for 10% off for Florida residents, so I may visit there. They do only have "made for factory" merchandise and not past season from the regular store (I called to ask yesterday).

    ReplyDelete
  19. Speaking of the Donegal Tweed...does anyone know the name or item number of the Floral Tank the model has on in the pic with the Pumpkin jacket? SO CUTE...on my wishlist now, as well as the Printed Slub-Silk Tank seen Here . I wish I had seen that one when I placed my order for the Andrea yesterday...hope they have it in my store, but it's HIGHLY unlikely. :(

    ReplyDelete
  20. FFM-the factory is made for factory, they do have a version of last years bella, would be curious to hear your opinion of the fabric and overall cut of the jacket. I was there the other day, it's 10 min from my house so even though it's not "real" jcrew sometimes I check it out. I got a really nice scarf with that purple flower print they did from last year in a silk tank, oct catalog I think, can't remember off hand. The quality isn't great but it's a scarf....

    ReplyDelete
  21. caw: are you talking specifically about the Orlando Factory outlet, or are you in another state?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am in NY...so that's what I am referring to, I have found the merchandise is pretty much the same though...

    ReplyDelete
  23. to clarify, (still drinking coffee)
I think the merchandise is the same in each state in the factory stores...

    ReplyDelete
  24. caw: Ok...I was just wondering if you had actually seen the Bella lookalike at the Orlando Factory store...we tend to not get as many of the jackets and sweaters due to being in the warmer weather. I am definitely going to check it out though! Thanks for the info. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. that's what I was thinking, being in Florida you may not get the same, but you never know, right?
maybe you'll find some other goodies. They had a knock off of the beaded flower belt that did so well, it was really cheap and cheesy looking compared to the "real" one.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, no sign that my Overnight order has shipped, so it looks as if it's NOT going to come today, afterall...guess it's coming at regular shipping speed. :(

    ReplyDelete
  27. caw: I'm thinking that I might at least be able to pick up some basics like tanks and tees for a good price...maybe some hair accessories or flip flops, too...do they carry those?

    ReplyDelete
  28. FFM_yes, they have all that stuff. the flip flops were like 3$ and the hair accessories are cute. I find their tanks are good and super cheap. Some of the other stuff the quality gets bad...not everything. A trained jcrew aficionada like yourself will be able to distinguish the good stuff from the bad stuff. They'll honor your educator discount and a coupon there too...they aren't as strict with the stupid rules that Jcrew seems to put into place inconsistently that is.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jcrewjunkie:
congratulations on wonderful purchases! Lucille jacket is amazing, I got it yesterday in b&m store in the same color as yours. I agree, it's totally suitable for blondes becouse of grren undertone vs yellow/golden. Add it's so plush. Can't wait for cooler weather.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Slastena,
I was in the Tysons II store yesterday and they honored my teacher disc. on a final sale item, I immediately thought of you!
I didn't want to ask the cashier about it in case it was a mistake on her part. :)

  31. Tip for Aficionadas who use the red phone (not sure if someone already posted this):

Shipping on your red phone order is no longer free if you order both full-price items and sale items. Shipping is only free for the full-price items, and you have to pay for shipping on the sale items. I learned this the hard way (although they did refund my shipping since the sales associate specifically told me that I would get free shipping if I ordered a full-price item).

This is a result of their system update - they've updated red phone shipping fees, too.

    ReplyDelete
  32. FFM:There is size 0 joelle cami in regal purple online

    ReplyDelete
  33. FFM: At my factory store (in Destin, FL) they do NOT honor my student discount. They said it is ONLY valid at retail stores. Just FYI.

    ReplyDelete
  34. JCrewJunkie: I laughed at the secret agent/DH sleeping part! :) Also, thank you so much for your review of those items! Congrats on the Tuesday Trench too!!! :)

Aly: I think if you tell the CS that the item is on sale on line, they will honor the sale price. At the So. Windsor store I notice that the Jaime Jackets were being sold for full price- I mentioned that they were on sale online. The CS checked, came back and said that indeed it was on sale and available for the additional 40% off. :)

Xanotoes: I am not sure why the stores are changing to women only- but I will definitely investigate and create a post on it soon! :) Thanks for the heads up on that too. :)

Beachbum: Thanks for the heads up on the red phone. That is awful! I will be sure to post about it tomorrow! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. caw, anu, and beachbum: Thank you for all the information! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Maybe they realized customers didnt really like it. I tried the peplum jacket on and I didnt like it at all. The fit was just frumpy.

The merino sweaters always go on sale and I find tend to go on sale rather quickly. But then they sit there at a sale price for a long, long time.

Secret Agent, Jcrewjunkie: Thanks for all of that info. I love the Tuesday trench but that is a definite wait for a sale item for me and I trying to make myself feel the same way about the Ecole jacket.

Aly thanks for that info. I will have to check b/c everything was on the sale rack on Tuesday (the peplum jackets were there too) and it was the same sale rack with the same 40% off sign above it.

FFM: Have fun at the factory store if you go.

Webbysuzy: OH yes report back esp. since you are in NYC. YAY. Nice to have you back around, you were MIA for a while :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. beachbum: that is true, student/faculty discounts are not honored at factory stores.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's quite possible that the peplum jackets I saw were $79.50, not $79.99-- I didn't look that closely (sorry!). Like many others, I didn't find myself drawn to them.

I'm interested to see if some stores go women only. It appears that some men's sections (like the one I saw at South Coast Plaza two weeks ago) have been shrinking! I wonder if they will be opening separate men's locations at some of these stores. At SCP, the Banana Republic men's and women's stores are somewhat separate (one upstairs and one downstairs, connected by a staircase, but have separate checkouts).

    ReplyDelete
  39. alexis: OK, it was late, I was sleepy and maybe I wrote it the wrong way. I personally did not like the Tuesday trench. It didn't have enough wow factor for me although it is very classic and pretty. The jacket that I am CRAZY for is the Lucille in Spicy Mustard. It is just incredible (slastena agrees!!) Sooo while the Tuesday trench is truly a beautiful piece my pick was the Lucille...the Tuesday trench is going back as is the Ecole (but I am just trading the Ecole for a different size). :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. MJ in VA;
Congrats! It was honored for me last time too( to my great surprise and joy), and yes, I did not tell them I was the one who called and complained. Just said thank you and walked away in silent thrill ( was secretly afraid they would turn me back and would tell it was a mistake, LOL!)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Beachbum-
I also shop the Destin outlet and they always honor my teacher discount...I would go back and ask for a price adjustment...who checked you out?

    ReplyDelete
  42. aly, if you try to get the price adjustment with your online order and they say "no go" just press them a little harder and they'll do it. good luck. certainly, for those of us who do not have a jcrew near by those prices should be honored.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jcrewjunkie (a.k.a. Secret Agent): You're hilarious! I used to sneak stuff around my ex too; it was getting a little too planned on my part. I started to wonder if I had a serious problem...uhm, yeah, I do. LOL! I, too, am one of the fans of the Lucille (along with Slastena and yourself); I found, though, that I had to size down. I do wish it came in petite.

Hexicon, aly, ccbmum: I had noticed that discrepancy in online vs. in-store prices before when I had bought a pair of riding wellies online for much less than they were in the store. It should go without saying that all the prices should be the same across the board, right? J.Crew doesn't operate on a franchise basis...

FFM: I'm so excited for you and your Andrea. That jacket is beautiful! I'm still contemplating on which piece to splurge on from this line - the Ecole (in herringbone), the Lucille, the Andrea...so much to choose from! I've been really keen on the jewelry too!

blumre: I agree with the Tuesday trench. The red trench is the one that I'm eyein'. ;)

  44. UM OK the Sparkle-metallic clutch in metallic marigold (the silvery color) is now on sale on the web-site I e-mailed my PS in a flash and I am hoping to get it. Esp since i was in the store on tuesday and they totally lied to me as said it wasn't on sale. Gah and my PS doesnt get in until 2, but I dont trust phone/online orders. :(

Cross your fingers for me that 1. the website isnt lying to me and 2. that she gets there in time. PRAY FOR ME!!!

  45. I need a little advice, what do you think of the Cotton cable cricket sweater. It's super preppy and I've looking for one for the past few months.

You know how it is, you see one in a movie or a magazine and then you want it.

So ... what are you thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jcrew guy: Love that sweater! I would love to see MMiller in it. The cotton might be a bit heavy for you to wear with an oxford underneath because its a 5 gauge knit. But I really like it. I know MMiller doesn't like heavy sweaters even in winter because he always gets too hot. I think the look of it is preppy and really fabulous. I say its a "love-it"!

    ReplyDelete
  47. jcrewjunkie: Thanks for your review! I totally agree with you on the Tuesday Trench. I had gone back to the store planning on purchasing it but left without it because the "wow" factor wasn't there for me either. (I tried the Navy one though.) But I was hoping to love it more. Maybe a sale purchase...

You and slastena are really making me want the Lucille. While I love the look of it, I'm afraid it's a bit too much coat for my life style (SAHM) and location (burbs)...

FFM: I would still hold on to the hope that your package may show up. It almost like their system can't keep up with fast shipments or something. Keep up posted.

P.S I also noticed that top you're referring to with the donegal tweed ecole. It doesn't look like it's on the web yet. I also did see it in my store (but that's not saying much since they don't get the good stuff either.)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks Blumre, that's my only concern that it may be too warm, but it will most likely end up in the shopping cart. I wear the merino sweaters all the time and love them. The cashmere ones are fine too so I betting the cricket one will work as well.

Maybe I should call for a personal shopper and snag it?

    ReplyDelete
  49. oops, ffm: us not "up"

    ReplyDelete
  50. Jcrew guy in Canada: That sweater is very handsome! And the fact that you've been looking for one for months now totally justifies you getting it. I know I'd be thinking that. ;) And if you live in the colder parts of Canada (I KNOW it gets pretty chilly up there; my sister lives in Northern Ontario!!), the thickness'll be perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  51. jcrewguy: full price items seem to be arriving ok. But sure why not get in touch with a personal shopper.

Acutally i love the cotton-cashmere for men. I wish they made more of that material for women - in expensive and still soft and warm while not being too think (DO YOU HEAR THIS MICKEY???)

I say buy it. I am sure it will look great on you and its a very versatile sweater.

    ReplyDelete
  52. jcrew guy in canada: I love that sweater! I wish my DH would wear more things like that. I will agree that it's very preppy but what's wrong with that?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  53. http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/jacketsouterwear/jackets/PRD~93160/93160.jsp

that dress, Swingy shirred piqué dress, is now on sale online but I dont ever remember seeing it on the site on full price... anyone else remember it?

    ReplyDelete
  54. blumre: It was online for full price for a very short time, disappeared and is now on sale. Go figure. (Another one of those J.Crew moves that will be a mystery.) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Okay ladies, the sweater is coming. They are sending by air and I have free shipping due to previous troubles. The CS rep, Lindsay was great. Why would you order on line when you can deal with someone like her.

I'm so glad that J.crew is working and shipping to Canada again. I'll let you next week what it's like. The sweater I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  56. blumre-I like what you are wearing today. Those pants are the best :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Eddie & Stretch's Momma: you're right - it goes without saying that the online and instore pricing should be the same...i don't know why jcrew can't fix that one...soooo much time and energy is wasted on our part as well as CS trying to get the fair lowest price...sigh! :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. CAW THANKS!!! :) I know they are my go to pants! So simple, easy and great for summer (esp since we dont have AC in school today, they are updating our system). I wish they year's capris fit me better though. The 4s are too huge and the 2s are to tight. Thats partially why I want the florentine capris because the 2 actually fits me (go figure I have never been a 2 in my life).

    ReplyDelete
  59. The ones from last year are so much better! fit wise. I am lusting after the florentine ones too, the other patterns this year didn't do it for me but those I like a lot. I am holding out for the sale. I am usually a true 4 but these days their sizing is SO WEIRD!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jcrew guy in Canada: 'Love the avatar! LOL! You should change the picture to YOU wearing the sweater when you get it next week. :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. sally: i love the lucille also and after hearing more about it here i am feeling very "enabled" to get it also...i don't think it's too much for a SAHM (as one myself). it just looks so chic and like it could last forever for those rare nights out! SAHM's deserve nice clothes too! ;)

i just made 2 rather large jcrew purchases already but feel like giving the lucille as a gift to myself since i don't get a paycheck...i've had a tough summer!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Count me in as one of those that are a little puzzled with their sizing lately. I've had to size down 3 (sometimes 4!!) to have things fit me, especially in the jackets. I know I lost weight, but not that much! (Or hopefully I did anyway. LOL!)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Eddie & Stretch's Momma: when i tried the ecole and that ruffled herringbone fiona jacket they were big on me...i'm a 0 so i can't size down any more...i hope this is not a trend for the rest of their jackets....

    ReplyDelete
  64. Can I use my Gift Cards at the Factory Store?

    ReplyDelete
  65. ccbmum: That sucks (excuse my French)! I'm totally jealous that you're a 0, but there's something going on with their jackets. I tried on persimmon and the ecru peplum jackets in the same size, and one was roomier/boxier than the other! Hmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Need some advice on the Jacinda - its online only, I think the fit is pretty cute. What do you think of it in Honey Glaze?

I like it because it sort of reminds me of the Lily cardigan, which I shamefully missed out on - so cute!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. FFM: I've used gift cards there before.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am a little behind BUT... I just finally checked out the Polyvore site and I love it! I wasn't sure how to find people, so I just searched for FFM and bingo! This will definitely be a new distraction for me... :) Do most people on here post under their same blog names on Polyvore?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yes, FFM you can use your gift cards at the factory store!

    ReplyDelete
  70. FFM-you can use gift cards there but you may want to save them for the better stuff at the store, who knows though.
jcrewbug-i like the jacinda, I bet like all the sweater jackets they make a lot though and will go on sale. I do like the color-
Lily Cardigan is great, don't ask me how many I have......

    ReplyDelete
  71. I agree with everyone their sizes are totally wacko! I have never been a 2 in my life! In every designer (who has kept regular sizes I am still a 6). WHAT IS UP WITH JCREW'S Sizing and why is is so gosh darn BIG?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Tortoise flats--
Has anyone tried these? They're almost half off on-line. Anyone know what they're going for in the stores?

I love wearing black and chocolate together so I'm always interested in tortoise-y accessories, but I was wondering if the plastic would be icky to wear. OTOH it's probably very practical for the rainy NW.

    ReplyDelete
  73. This is off-topic but I want to let everyone know that the returns dept is working again - perhaps even more efficient than pre-upgrade days.

I sent back a package by UPS last week. It was delivered on Tuesday 7/29, processed the same day (showed on my order history), and posted on my CC this morning (8/1).

    ReplyDelete
  74. Blumre, I agree that the sizes seem strange. All my stuff from the 90s that's a 2 still fits, but I need a 6 in most pants now . . . My 6 in last year's cafe capris w/stretch still fit fine, but this year's seem huge. Go figure. Consistency in fit would seem to be very important in catalog sales, so I don't know why they'd monkey with it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Thanks for the heads up, Vivian! I hope this is a sign of nothing but great, smooth transaction days ahead!

    ReplyDelete
  76. How warm does the Lucille jacket appear to be? Is this basically just a lighter jacket for early fall (in colder climates) or will the lining take one through early winter? Also, is this sized to be too large for a true 0? As of last year, most of J.Crew's size 0s and XS have been too big, which is incredibly frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Eddie & Stretch's Momma: Hope it also means there's a big sale around the corner!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Super frustrated...sorry to vent here but not sure where else. I am forced to do all my shopping online because the closest store is 2 hours away. I hate that I miss out on all the 40% sales and getting to see things and try them on, without having to order and then return. Who wants to do that now with the massive fiasco happening.

It's even more frustrating this weekend, as I live in SC and we have a tax free weekend. There aren't any aficionada's in the SC area hitting B&M stores??

    Thanks for letting me vent...

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anon @ 11:57: I think the Lucille can take you well into early winter, depending on what you wear under. With the J.Crew cashmere (or thicker gauge) sweaters, you should be fine. That being said, I think the collar (which you can wear up) and the material of the Lucille can keep you warm enough. Also, for this, it is sized a bit on the large size. I had to size down quite a bit (4 sizes!!). I hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  80. What puzzles me about J.Crew's inflated sizing is that most of their models are so damn skinny, I have no idea how the size 0/XS clothing isn't just falling off of them. Must be lots of pinning and alternations behind the scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  81. emily: I'm still deciding whether to visit the store. I really don't have any more money to spend until the 15th and I hate to charge, but . . . tax free at J Crew is hard to ignore. Especially since I want the featherweight merino in purple. I'm trying to be strong and resist. FFM mentioned last night that she thought they would honor the tax free over the phone. Or, you could call a store and have them order for you. (If you don't know an sa, call Billy in Charleston 843-534-1640).

  84. Aaw, Emily, I'm so sorry. I can imagine how frustrating it is with this online store not working properly for those who can't get to a B&M store. Just a few minutes ago, I checked my online cart for a couple of tanks I had put there that were on sale for $12.99 and found that the price had gone up to $16.50! That is exactly the stuff that's making me so wary of the online store. =(

  85. dr. j: i think most people post under the same name...the only different ones i've noticed put their names in parentheses like sally and slastena...:) i love polyvore...it's so addicting that i'm redeveloping carpal tunnel pain in my hand from all the clicking!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. has anybody else noticed that a lot of the stuff in the sale secton on the website, once you click on them aren't actually on sale?

    ReplyDelete
  87. jennie: I posted in another thread that I had placed tanks for $12.99 in my cart and were suddenly $16.50 once there!! Also, there a few times I had clicked on an item and got the "We were unable to process your request at this time. Please try a little later." I read it as "Please try a little harder." LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  90. anon @ 12:08: I got the Lucille in a size 0 and it fits me perfectly. I am 5'4" and weigh just under/around 100 pounds. I was especially thrilled with this jacket because it had sleeves that actually didn't go over my hands. I usually have to go to a petite to alleviate this problem, but not with this jacket. Hope this helps. :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. J.crewjunkie, your husband's taste can't be too bad, he married you.

Thanks for the thumbs up on the sweater. But now that the shipping to Canada is a go and I get free express shipping I might go a little nuts and order more.

    ReplyDelete
  92. ccbmum: I too am a SAHM in the 'burbs but since the Lucille looks to be so versatile it think that it will work for me. I can pair it with a tee and it will be great for fall, but come winter the turtlenecks will make it very doable when it gets super chilly! I also think that it can be dressed up or down depending on the situation (i.e. grocery shopping vs church). :)

    ReplyDelete
  93. I'm sorry, guy in canada, but I just have to chime in and say, that was so sweet of you (re: jcrewjunkie hubby's taste)! :) 'So appreciate the love on this blog!

  94. I just got a Katie sweater jacket online. I have been trying to get one all week. For those that have, will it be something I can wear in the fall with khakis or jeans?

  95. jcrewguy: I think that was the sweetest thing that anyone has said to me in a LONG time! I think that DH and the kids sort of take me for granted. LOL. Thank you for making my day! (((HUGS)))

  96. AAGH, my polka dot san telmo is still lost in UPS-land. Does anyone have any experience with the success rate of a UPS tracer? Would I be wise to reorder the jacket and sell the duplicate on ebay if it were to emerge, or should I keep waiting? It's only been about 36 hours since the tracer was started, but the jacket was supposed to be here 4 days ago.

  97. Happy Friday, ladies and gents!

Just got back from my b&m to try one some things. I found the sizing to be kind of all over the place (Am typically 2 in tops and bottoms).

Marcella blouse - liked this, the silk felt more substantial than some of their other silk items. The shoulders felt kind of big in the 2, so I sized down to the 0 which felt better in the shoulders, but then it felt a little clingier at the bottom. Would probably end up going with the 2.

Double-serge Tuesday trench - 2 felt pretty comfortable, but left a bit of room in the chest. Very cute, but the collar may have been a little too reminiscent of last year's Dani peacoat (read: kind of overwhelming). Plus, the pockets are situated such that if you have the jacket closed/tied, your hands wouldn't fit comfortably in them (does that even make sense?). Cute, but not $275 cute - may consider purchasing on sale.

Julianne dress - I think this fit very similarly to the Josie (read: very roomy on top, not so roomy on bottom). Too bad, because it's made of substantial material and looks cute on the hanger, but the 2 fit the hips perfectly and was totally baggy up top. Boo!

City-fit Watson pant - great fit, looked adorable, will definitely be purchasing a pair (or two). Think of a wide-leg, cuffed Madison pant.

Belle skirt - these are great, could barely tell the difference between a 2 and a 4. Couldn't decide between the Buttercup and the Dark Fog...

Chiffon Rosette Belts - these were all over the store, but I couldn't believe they were $38 - they're totally a craft-store project, IMHO. At least the flower ones had some kind of beading on them. Don't get me wrong, they're cute as a button - just overpriced.

The only fall items that were on sale at my b&m were the featherweight merino v-necks ($59.50), boatneck fleece tops ($39.50), and favorite-fit chinos ($49.50). Sale section almost completely gone, with the exception of this size 12 school-of-fish Clea tank that has been there forEVER!

  98. Hi all,

I may just have good luck with J.Crew, but the past two orders I have placed have been over the phone and have arrived VERY quickly. I placed an order on Tuesday evening at 6:30pm. The woman I spoke with gave me 40% off all of my items AND free shipping. I also received my package YESTERDAY. So...you may have better luck if you order over the phone rather than through the website.

    ReplyDelete
  99. hey kat, what magic words did you say to get the 40%?! Were these sale items or regular-priced items?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hi, I'm new and LOVE all the info you guys have!! Hey, I have the Beaded Flamenco Dot Cardigan...how are you guys wearing it?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hi a,

I just said that the final sale items were 40% off in the stores, and I would like to have the same discount if I ordered over the phone. I gave the location (Georgetown in DC) where I saw the 40% and the woman I spoke with said OK!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Cori: Not sure which color Katie you purchased, but there are several of us who have created outfits on Polyvore with it...they can be seen Here , Here , Here , and Here . Hope this helps...I plan to wear mine well into Fall, personally. :)

  103. Hi, enjoying my trip to the US--I found the blue watercolor rosette tank at the Mall Of America in the blue color yesterday; I had to size down...this is very RARE for me. I think the sizing is changing. I didn't see anything in the sale section or new fall stuff that excited me but I got my tank and only paid approx. $17 for it...salesclerk remembered me being a HUGE JCrew shopper while I lived in MN and gave me 10% off, also had the educator's discount, and a $50 gift card for all my problem orders--(I had problems with 3 orders PRIOR to upgrade--). So while I didn't buy a lot I got what I came for....Yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  104. kat: I placed all of my orders over the phone so I don't think it really makes a difference, but congratulations on your speedy delivery! :)

    ReplyDelete
  105. P.S. Also the water color rosette tank is $10 cheaper at the store than the online price.....$88 vs. $99

    ReplyDelete
  106. Ok...I REALLY don't know how that first pic ended up in there, but here is the one I meant to post: Click Here . Sorry about posting the wrong pic. :)

  109. Re Teacher/Faculty discount at factory stores - they should always be honored. I was at the Westbrook (CT) FS and was given the 15% upon giving my school email address. Make sure to ask/double check.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Quick question - does anyone have the bubble necklace in sweet papaya? What do you wear it with? Can it be a fall necklace?

    ReplyDelete
  111. wow I have been to the westbrook, ct store and I have never gotten it there. i will have to start asking again.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Maybe they have items on sale already to try to make up for the continued mess of their customer service. Seriously, the backup, hold times, missing items, and overcharges I've been dealing with for a month just never seem to end.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Hey guys! I was at the tysons II store, and apparently VA is having a tax free weekend too!
The sale was picked through, but I did notice a few things - They had a lot of pipers in navy and pink (a few in silver too), a few metallic linen tunic tops, and a lot of the liberty print blouses, and about 20 of the slub-cotton embrodidered tunics in black. A selection of jeans (forgot the style...bootcut?) were around $20 (after the 40% off), and the basics - tanks and tees.
    Hope that helps someone!

Also, I called in a red phone order and they also honored the 40% off the store was having and at the end (I had ordered 2 fullpriced items), I asked as kind as I could muster, "oh...how much was the shipping on all that??" and the cs rep said don't worry I'll waive it for you!! So maybe red phone is the way to go these days. Also, I think they move calls from a red phone to the top of the phone queue, because I was only listening to melanie (is that her name?!? now I've forgotten, even though in the past few weeks I think I have talked to her more then my husband...) talk about "going back to school" for a minute or two.

  115. Hello all, I am wondering if I can ask for your expert help? What do you all think of the Florentine pencil skirt? Do you think that is summer only, or could I wear it into fall with boots and a navy turtleneck? I think it is a unique piece--I have it on hold at my store but wanted some opinions on wearing it into another season.

  116. I forgot who it was, but I think someone wanted the Giraffe Charm Necklace and it's on ebay now. The current bid is 24.99 and the bidding is over in a little less than 3 hours. I hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  117. jlitz: because the skirt is linen and I believe unlined it is certainly warmer weather only. But if you live in the south or on the west coast I would say it could work for you in the fall

    ReplyDelete
  118. anon @ 2:27PM: We were just talking about the papaya necklace in another thread! ;)

We were all in agreement that it could very well carry into fall to add some punch to grays, blacks and browns.

'Am wearing it now with the gray flowy bateau dress. :)

  120. I just had my first cancelled JCrew order. First I received shipping confirmation for both items, then shipping confirm. for just one, finally this morning a "sorry your order was cancelled" email. oy!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Cori: Congrats on the Navy...my store didn't have my size, so I ended up with the Geranium, which is also very pretty. I think the looks on Polyvore can easily be subsituted with the Navy Katie. :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. marisa: I am so sorry to hear that...were they sale or full price items?

    ReplyDelete
  123. My local JCrew had a large selection of the jersey bateau dresses - 4O% off. There were three colors available - I definitely remember the navy and gray but can't remember the third.

I found it rather bizarre that they also had an entire rack of the linen Anotia dresses at full price rather than the $49.99 price on the web.

    ReplyDelete
  124. anon @ 2:39: the slub cotton tunic with the pockets? How much was it marked down to? I want that top, but it's not on sale online yet. If it's the same top, I'll call in and see if they'll honor the sale price plus 40% from the store. Also, was only the black on sale or is that all they had?

    ReplyDelete
  125. I just wanted to report back that I placed 2 sale orders on Tuesday and received them both today with everything I ordered in the boxes. I got my Italian Jacquard Fiona Jacket and I love it. For anyone thinking of ordering the Fiona, as someone else said, this style runs big so size down at least one size, if not two. I normally wear a 16 in j.crew suit jackets, and I got the 14 in this and it is even on the larger side.

I also ordered the seahorse necklace. I am slightly undecided about it as it is a lot longer and heavier than I imagined.

    ReplyDelete
  126. jliz: that skirt is beautiful! I also think that it can be worn into Fall depending on where you are located...I would definitely wear it here in Florida, and I think the idea of pairing boots and a Navy Turtleneck with it sounds gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Eddie & Stretch's Momma:

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  128. math teacher - i think you have the item confused, the one I am talking about is item number 93401 (you can see it on the website, but no colors/sizes available). it was only 19.99 - 40%, a steal!

  131. It'll be another month until things are back to normal, as per an email I just received from JCrew CS:

"We hope to have all system errors corrected by the end of August."

  132. This is completely off topic, but felt I should share: I also sent an email to Mickey last night to comment on the ordeal I have had regarding my Joelle Blouse and Kelly Jacket, and stated that I am only one of many who have experienced this type of issue, and wanted him to be aware of what is going on. I received a response back from him within several minutes: "Hi and thanks for sharing your experiences-and very sorry for what's happened-we are very much working towards "being back to normal"-one of us will be in touch tomorrow-
    Mickey"

This morning I received an email from Tracy Crane stating that her business partner was going to contact me this morning by phone, which she DID!!!

She had researched my orders and the problems that had occurred with them over the past 5 weeks...she offered her apology and said she had found me a Kelly Jacket in Bright Flame and it is on it's way to me now, compliments of J.Crew. She had also looked for the Joelle Blouse, but there were none to be found anywhere in any store in the U.S. She is having tabs kept on the Navy Kelly and Papaya Joelle to see if any surface, and will send them to me, if they do. She was able to give me a tracking number for my Andrea and it is to be delivered tomorrow before noon, along with a gift card from her. I also placed an order earlier today for 2 Piper Tanks, and she said they look as if they will arrive on Monday or Tuesday.

I was able to give her feedback about the website, shipping troubles, and also offer some of my suggestions about both. She said that Mickey has been completely inundated with emails, and regrets that he cannot answer all of them personally. She has also spoken with the web design team about the $null and wrong price for items in the sale section. I get the feeling that they are almost "embarrassed" that this actually happened to them, and seem to be working 24/7 on fixing it, but was still unable to mention a time frame.

I must say that I was completely shocked that I received a phone call and such a personal response from Mickey's staff...it really made my day...ok...my month! :)

  134. Anon @ 10:26:

Sorry I missed you earlier; I hope you'll still read this. When did you use your educator discount at the Destin factory store? I've tried to use my student discount multiple times over the last couple of years, but not very recently. Maybe they changed their policy when they updated the system, or when they started honoring student discounts for online purchases??

    ReplyDelete
  135. Hi first time posting here: I have two questions.

    1. I read that the Double Serge Tuesday Trench doesn't have enough factor "WOW" to warrant the $275 price tag - I'm in need of a classy autumn/winter coat and was wondering if I should hold out until it goes on sale (fingers crossed with the Petite Size 0 remaining) or should I get it in Navy? I have a hard time finding coats that don't fit me like a tent.

    2. Does anyone have both J.Crew flats and Tory Burch ones? Which one do you suppose are more worth buying?

Thanks! I know this is rather off topic, but I wanted to get some wool sweaters and thought I could order the trench coat as well, and everyone here seems to be in line top j.crew fanatic award :)

    ReplyDelete
  136. Came to check out jcrew ...
I can't believe it! I'm right now at columbus circle in NYC and stacy and Clinton from "what not to wear" is filming at Espirit!
Wonder if they will stop by jcrew later!

  137. jliz: I actually got my Navy Elizabeth on sale at the store last month...I paid $38 for it. It was on the rack with all of the other 30% off sale merchandise, and was the only one. It seems as if it should be about time to mark them down, as I would assume they will be bringing in new Fall colors, but I'm not 100% certain. I really want the Black one. :)

marisa: They are giving me the jacket free of charge. :)

    ReplyDelete
  138. I was able to purchase the Piper Tanks with the extra 40% off price match to the store, and also with my educator discount...they were about $20 each...now if they will actually get here...fingers crossed, AGAIN! :)

  139. If anyone is still looking for Joelle camis, there were a bunch of them at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in NJ today, along with some of the buttery twill cargo pants and several extra small katie sweaters (those were $29.99, not $39 as they are on line). Sale merchandise is still 40% off.

    ReplyDelete
  140. FFM: What email address did you use to contact JCrew. I have 5 items that I experienced the same problems with and I want to let them know.......have sent regular emails but nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  141. My Katie sweater jacket arrived but with several blue threads woven onto the upper back of the geranium color! What a HUGE disappointment.

Also, got the sea horse Dylan tank. super cute but two buttons fell off the first day I wore it.

Cashmere Clementina in snow arrived with a hole in the back arm part.

Quality is not what it used to be. I had about 15 items in my order but not good overall....JCrew!

  151. RocketScience: I have the Tory Burch Reva flats as well as a number of J.Crew styles. Both are very cute, but I find the J.Crew shoes infinitely more comfortable. The metal "T" circle on the Reva flats hits my foot in a weird way and hurts if I do a lot of walking. I would never buy another pair of Tory Burch flats, but my collection of J.Crew flats continues to grow and grow.

  153. This is OT, but I just discovered that the cashmere argyle vest comes in 3 colors. I'm not sure when they updated this. I usually just check my cart for availability, but I'm on a different computer, so I actually went to the item. Now, I have to decide which one I like best. I think the wheat is the most versatile as far as what it can be worn with. For those of you like this vest, what do you all think?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  156. math teach: I def vote wheat! Its timeless and I like the warmness of the color.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Thanks jcrewbug! I'm really excited, too...I never expected to really receive any kind of personal response (just canned email) and really didn't expect a free sweater, either...it's pretty FAB! :)

math teacher: Thanks! I hope they really use some of my suggestions! :)

    ReplyDelete
  158. erica: thanks so much for your input - i've been eyeing the salina patent flats in peacock and i couldn't decide between that and tory burch ones in green!

it may just be that i'm terribly elitist, but i was swayed by the fact that j.crew shoes are made in italy as opposed to the tory burch ones made in brazil. thanks again!

  162. math teacher: I also like the graphite silver honey...it would definitely go with a white shirt...this sweater is on my wishlist, and I like both the wheat and silver. :)

    ReplyDelete
  163. ffm: I was thinking the same thing about the white shirt. I hope my store has them in stock. Somehow, I was sent 2 tartine cardigans, so I'll have to return one. I'm hoping to try on some more new things, and hopefully the vest will be there. I like the fact that the wheat could be worn with brown, gold, or dark gray. I'm not sure about the silver beyond black. I'd have to see it with the gold - black and yellow always reminds me of a bee. :)

  164. Newyork Thats sooo cool! Too bad I think i am reading this too late and by the time I get there they would be gone! Did you get to meet stacy??? I ADORE HER. And all my friends say I not only look like her but I act like her, its a little weird.

  166. math teacher: the silver with a white shirt would like nice with dark denim, a camel or british khaki skirt, and british khaki pants. As long as the khaki was the darker british color, then it should work, and would pick up the golden color in the sweater. You could also wear pants in the Cool Graphite color that J.Crew has, which I think is now being called Nantucket Fog? What about pairing it with a Belle Skirt in Dark Fog or Buttercup with the white blouse, as well...I think you have more options available than you think. :)

    ReplyDelete
  167. Hmmph. CS wouldn't match the in-store 40% on the phone for me. I think I got a dud of a rep -- she was totally unhelpful with my shoe-color question too. Grrr. So no order from me.

    ReplyDelete
  168. oh, and their reason for not matching was pretty weak: "They're different systems." I pushed a little, but alas...

    ReplyDelete
  169. a: the first rep I spoke to told me no, so I said I wasn't going to order. Then I called back and the next rep let me have the price match...I know it's a LONG wait time on the phone, but you might have better luck the second time around...I did. :)

    ReplyDelete
  170. ffm: I hadn't thought about the british khaki color. I do like gray and khaki. I don't normally like full skirts, so I've been avoiding the belle skirt. I may try it on next time just to see. I generally prefer a-line and pencil. I can only wear denim once a month, so I don't even usually think about jeans when making a purchase I can wear to school. Maybe the store will have both and I can make a decision once I see them. Since they're a warm weather store, you'd think they'd carry the vest. You are really good with colors. I do hope you can make your dream of arranging outfits for people come true (boy, that has some misplaced somethings!). :)

  177. I tried on the peplum jacket today, hoping I'd be able to take advantage of the "promotion" (not sale, according to a cs!). Too bad it was too big on me when I tried the size zero. I think it us the style that will require people to soze down. CS tried to tell me it'd be fine if I add a sweater underneath. Nice try, but I decided to pass.

Math teacher: only saw one outfit - very basic structured black jacket over a top and a pair of greyish wide leg dress pants. I wished they had chosen jcrew. It would be so interesting to see what Stacy & Clinton would combine outfits there!

Blumre: stacy looked adorable - a very chic black dress and creamy ivory heels. Your friends day you look like her? That's so cool!

  178. Thanks FFM! I wish I could go in there and grab one, I think its such a cool top. I am hoping to snag a navy Elizaeth on sale at some point.

  179. Jcrew bug:

The number of the Rockaway Townsquare store is 973 366 5353. I'm trying to think of some of the other things they had that you might be interested in--lots of belted jackets--I think it's the chino Mendocino--and crinkly skirts, too. They had not, like my Short Hills Mall store, shipped their stuff back to the warehouse.

  180. And it happened....I never got a shipping confirmation. HOWEVER< I received two boxes from FedEx this afternoon. They overnighted me all four orders :-O

I also received my $30 GC. I am so excited. How great is that!

We are having tax free and I plan on using my GC this evening at the store (sales tax here is 9.75%!). I saw the old navy skirt online that looks like the bella (They must have just put it up!) and I want one of those as well. I also need some new cami's for under my jackets :o)

FFM: Yay on the order and the great response! Congrats! I hope your item comes today too!

  181. another sign of improvement? i placed 2 orders this week, one monday and one tuesday. they arrived yesteday and today, respectively. i don't really remember ever getting orders so fast, but maybe i didn't pay so much attention before! my amelia tank was missing but the order status did say partial shipped, so at least they're aware of it...

  182. ccbmum & jcrewjunkie et al: what enablers you all are indeed! I just got back from my b&m and, while they don't have the Lucille in the store, one store in my area did. They all know what a sucker I am and encouraged me to go for it...and I did! They are sending me one so I didn't get to try it on yet. I can't wait!

newyork: That is SO cool. What a great city you live in where something like that can happen on any given day!

FFM: I am stunned! I can't believe you got a personal phone call from what was definitely a MUCH higher-up! I am just so glad to hear that they are really making efforts to rectify the situation.

  183. katherined: if your mother has a school email address at her school, then the teacher discount will definitely work for her online. in store, i'm sure it would vary from store to store, but she might as well flash the i.d that she has and give it a whirl :)

  184. sally: What color of the Lucille did you get?

  185. FFM- Stop complaining about your screwed up orders and taking advantage of J.Crew customer service. You have gotten way too much free stuff.

  186. ffm: I got the spicy mustard. (even though I just bought the andrea in honey glaze). I am a brunette with olive skin so I don't usually have a problem with yellows. But I did wonder if I should have gotten the orange instead, just to change it up a bit...

btw, I never chimed in about the color discussion on the honey andrea. It is definitely more of a deep golden yellow, without any of the green tones that the spicy mustard has. imo

  187. anon, do you work for jcrew? is this mickey! ;)

  188. sally: it sounds as if they are really two completely different colors, so I think you made a good choice...CONGRATULATIONS!!! :)

  189. ffm: thanks for your support! I just can't wait to see it in person!

  190. tired memphian: Congratulations! How do like them? Are they all that you expected and more?

  191. jcrew guy in canada: Congrats on the sweater and the great customer service! Let us know when you get it. :)

  192. tired memphian: Did they ship the oder you placed in yesterday morning? I am still waiting and haven't seen any update on jcrew.com.

  193. ny0311: That is very cool!!! I am jealous that you got to see her. We see so many stars all the time on the UWS and they are always filming movies in my area so its not new to me. But she would just be a cool person to see, not in a star kind of way but I just think she would be a cool person to hang out with.

KatherineD: If you work in a school you get the discount. I work in development (aka fundraising) and I get the discount!!

  194. beachbum...I don't live down there but am going for the 3rd time this summer tomorrow...I used it the second week of June, the week of the 4th and plan to use it this week also. Never had a problem.

  195. This is a bit off topic, but does anyone think that the royal mess-up at JCrew.com has delayed Madewell's online shopping availability. I received the Aug. issue of Lucky Mag yesterday and it showcased Madewell as a new website to bookmark and shop on (indicating that at it should have been up and running by now).

  196. anon @6:36: is it really necessary to be so rude? Your daily attacks on me are really uncalled for and quite mean. I have never been rude or nasty to anyone on here, and I don't appreciate you being that way to me.

    ReplyDelete
  197. ffm: I LOVE your polyvore outfits! So, now I don't know which one I want. I guess I'll hope to see them in person. If that doesn't happen, then I'll see which one is still around when they go on sale. Without seeing them, I guess it depends on whether I want to go with brown shades or gray/black shades. Thanks so much! It is going to be hard to wait for this to go on sale. :)

And, I'm not sure where the rudeness is coming from. You've done nothing to deserve it.
