Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  2. FYI: if you like the look of the new Pixie Jodhpur Pant, you can get some very similar looking pants from actual tack shops and equine supply catalogs for way less than $168. Here's one example for $60: http://www.smartpakequine.com/kerrits-performance-tight-2532p.aspx?cm_vc=Search

Plus, both smartpakequine.com and doversaddlery.com offer online reviews.

  3. Have any of you tried Quincy (online only)? The sparse comments I've heard have been great, and the attention to detail seems to fill the gap that JC has left, but I'm wary...

  4. For anyone interested in the various fair isle sweaters but at much better prices can consider TJ Maxx. I've been in two stores in two states in the past week and found a healthy selection of heavy weight fair isle style cardigans and pull overs in the $35-$40 range. Unknown brand, but 100% wool, slim but boxy cut, hip length and certainly very warm. Itchy as all get out too, but for $35?!

  5. One more post: Madewell's Skinny Skinny jeans are awesome. SO soft, and they come in such great washes. TTS. The fit is tight when you first get them on, but as they warm up they relax just a bit and fit like a second skin. Best of all, they have what I consider to be a "true" mid-rise, hitting just about 1" below my navel.

And if you're looking for a classic winter cableknit sweater, try Madewell's Cableknit Sweater (they have Ecru and Fireplace Red). 100% Merino, thick and super-soft, hits at high hip, open crewneck, not too boxy, $88. Fit is TTS. I've been looking for a replacement for my too-thick itchy traditional lambswool Fisherman sweater for a while and I am extremely pleased with this one.

  6. Old Navy has some really cute flannel shirts that remind me a lot of JC's flannels for women. I ordered one online for less than $20. I don't need to spend $70 on a flannel shirt, kwim? At least for one that's for fashion and not for function.

  7. Mentioned in another thread that Joe Fresh is selling mini bubble necklaces right now for $14. About the right pricepoint for a design that is clearly about to become ubiquitous...

  8. Anthropologie is running a Free Shipping promotion on USA orders of $100+ through 11:59 PM ET tonight. :) Use the code OURTREAT at checkout.

  9. Boden started a promo that is going to last until early December (likely when the f/w 2012 items go to clearance). Anyhow, more info on that (and the exclusions) here at this blog post. :)

Also, Boden's spring preview had an extension of the 20% off with free ship and returns because they added some mini and "tween" items to the preview. The code PRV3 will work until November 26, 2012 now. More on that here.

  10. Pumpkin Patch - Kids clothing. 40% off sitewide + free shipping with USACHM thru Sat, 11/17. And it worked on Baby Bjorn, as mentioned in this post.

  11. Land's End has 40% off one item today and free shipping over $50 (that's pre discount, so if you get a $50 item for $30 with the discount, you still get free shipping). Code: JOLLY pin: 1112

I am perusing and found this amazing deal. $55 pre-discount for a black or charcoal luse wool swing coat. It is only available in sizes 4 and 6. But the luxe wool is SUPER soft, it is like J.Crew's wool/cashmere coats.

  12. Banana Republic has a bangle similar to the wildside that refuses to go on sale. Details in this post. MERRYDAY for 30% off ends tonite, 11/19.
