JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Some randomness in this post, incl a shot of the hothouse silk blouse.

  4. I love my turquoise pool (aka seafoam green) merino Tippi sweater, but I run cold and 3/4 sleeves are not practical for me. Today I gave in and layered a dark green perfect fit tee underneath, although I'm not sure about the "colorblocked" sleeves. How else can I layer my Tippi for warmth? Long sleeves are a must, and button-downs are not my style. What colors of perfect-tee type layers would go with turquoise pool, and are there other layering pieces besides buttondowns that I'm forgetting about?

    1. I also get too cold in 3/4 length sleeves. Today I layered a Tippi underneath a knit blazer.

    2. What about using the Tippi as the bottom layer? For example, wearing a non-fitted/boyfriend cardigan over the Tippi. I like Cate's idea with a blazer. Or as a layer under a cropped boxy sweater.

Or what about arm length gloves? This isn't my style, but I think some ladies can pull it off.

    3. Today I'm wearing a bright yellow Tippi under my grey/ivory Lexington and I really like the look!

    4. I never thought of using the Tippi as an underlayer--thanks! I only have one blazer currently that fits well, but I'm in a casual environment so I can layer other things over top.

  5. I am not one for sharp contrast so I personally would go with any long sleeve tee in a pastel for your tippi. The melon, light gray, off white...do like camel with mint/aqua. I would keep arm candy to a minimum (sp? Just doesn't look right) and play with the necklace- for melon, something long, light, and silver..for camel, something heavier.

  7. Hi, Just got invited to a Christmas Charity event. The dress code is Business / Cocktail...and of course I have nothing to wear. I was looking at the Origami Dress or maybe the Satin pencil skirt. I just ordered the Polka Dot Sequin Tee but don't think that will work with anything...may have to return it and purchase one of the above. Any suggestions on what to wear with the Satin Pencil skirt or alternative outfits would be appreciated...I am tall so liked the idea that the Origami dress comes in Tall sizes.

  8. My school boy blazer! I ended up returning it, it. I couldn't 'pull it off' or just didn't like the feel/look of it on me. My style is prep meets bohemian meets classic and the school boy was a tad too preppy for me....but I love it on anyone else..how strange?

  9. Hi ladies, its starting to get cooler here and I was wondering if I could take my striped maritime anchor dress into fall/winter by pairing it with boots and tights. Also I got the snakeskin skirt for such a steal (~$28) and would love to be able to still wear it in cooler temps, Amy ideas? Thanks ladies, I always love reading these posts. They help me appear fashionable to my coworkers :)

  10. My question is about the royal violet double serge pencil skirt. Is it lined? And is it a vibrant purple? It's hard to tell from the photos.
