  1. I went to the preview day yesterday. A lot of the same stuff as the last sale. In shoes there are a lot of Everleys but mostly in pink + purple. Also Monas, though at $100 they're pretty pricey for a sample sale. I was hoping to find Vivs but there really weren't any, flats or heels.

Nice sweater selection but do look through carefully as I did see items with marks, holes, etc. A few Schoolboy blazers but less work assortment (i.e. not any of the Super 120s dresses). There were lots of Tillary bags and some Edies. Might be less selection today because those were popular among the preview VIPs.

I saw tons of the chevron sequin top and dress in both colors, plus the Double Serge Pencil Skirt in several colors (mostly sizes 6 and 8). There are definitely treasures in the piles if you don't mind fighting the crazy crowds.

Mizhattan has a great post with lots of photos.

  2. Thanks Roxy for sharing that info. :) Sounds like the prices are still high. It is too bad they don't offer the sample sales in NYC at the same prices as the warehouses.

P.S. I have to ask, what is a "preview day" and how did you get invited? Just curious since I never heard of it. I did know employees (& friends) get first access the day before. Is that the same?

  3. Yes it's basically access to the sale a day early for press/VIPs. And technically I'm neither. :) I snuck in as a friend's +1. She's an editor at one of the major NYC fashion mags.

  4. There is a clear picture of what the sample sale is like here: http://samplesally.com/apparel/j-crew-sample-sale-2/#more-27009

Read it, especially the first hand experience comments before you venture out. I'm going to skip it because I do not think that it is worth it.

  5. I went to the sale this summer and thought it was a big waste of time. However the winter sales have much better offerings. If you're looking for shoes, definitely go. I snagged the Collection Etta calf hair, still FP $350 on the site for $100. I also saw the Collection Sasha snakeskin pumps for $100. Tons and tons of current shoes, for a steal.

Coats and outerwear were also plentiful. Lots of lady days in winter white and other colors, $150. Lots of puffers and this season's quilted jacket, as well as the field jackets.

Lots of sleepwear. Short sleeve and long sleeve vintage pajama sets, $20 for each piece.

I definitely left happy as i also snagged a striped tippi sold out online for $35.

I also got some janey calf hair flats and loafers for $65. a double cloth trench was mismarked for $60 which I grabbed etc...i got four bracelets for $25 each...the wait was crazy yesterday but this afternoon i waited for 10 mins max. its definitely worth going if you're in the city!!!

  7. I went yesterday and I thought it was worth while. I always find the Fall Sample sales much better. They had a large variety of items from this winter's catalog. I was very surprised to see current items, there were large quantities and every size was represented. I happened to score, because a truck made a delivery the night before, so the store was restocked before I went in. Plus..... I was the first person on line for the 10:00 o'clock opening.
