Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the FALL sale, or to see some new FALL/WINTER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. What is J Crew's most fitted / narrow shirt? Perfect? Boy?

Also, an extra 10% at Factory (i.e.. 40% off)!!

    1. Probably the Perfect Shirt. The Boy Shirt is a straighter/looser cut.

    2. Agree. I prefer the boy shirt. The perfect shirt, I'd size up a size, personally, especially if you can take one or the other sometimes. Or else it will be very close to the body.

      Delete
    3. Perfect is more fitted and slim-cut.

  2. Good question... I'm not sure, but I'd like to know myself. I've been eyeing up one of the perfect shirts, but wasn't sure of the fit.

I'm still on the hunt for the elusive Excursion vest, XS, in warm bisque, if anyone happens to see it while they are out and about this weekend. I am officially a woman on a mission!! Any tips or leads would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much, and happy Friday!

  3. Very happy to say I will be checking out a Crew whenever one might be close by -- my son and I are finally heading up north today to see my family. My mom and I will spend all day on Monday shopping (yay)...mostly for Christmas gifts at the Westfarms Mall in CT, but who knows when I might find a treasure for myself? ;)

Wanted to quickly share my shock and excitement at a few Crew-related things that happened this week. Not only did I chance upon the elusive green chiffon dot top *in my size* this past weekend, and a navy one a smidge bigger (I needed a navy top for a family portrait this weekend) BUT I also bought them both at FP. Which for me is craziness! But I had to have that green top. The color on brunettes is just TDF.

Also, when yesterday's promo went live, I called CS and they took the 30% off that hefty purchase since I was within 7 days. That made it much easier to swallow.

No good sale updates for days now. Booooo.

I miss talking to y'all. I really hate that I can't post from work. I lurk but it's not the same as being able to contribute.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

    1. Hi Elaine, what will you wear under the chiffon top? I thought the top didn't skim over a cotton cami very well, but I couldn't find a silk/satin type cami that would work. I had bought the navy chiffon top and returned it, but I really love both colors. So glad they adjusted the price for you!

      Delete
    2. I'm wondering what you will wear under the green top too! Also, what did you think of the sizing? I ordered an 8 cream first, then a 6 and both seemed so big (and I'm always an 8). Wondering if petite would be better (but I've never ordered petite before)...I'm considering trying to have my PS look for the dublin green, I've been eyeing it for a while now. Do you know if the green any less sheer then the cream?

    3. You have definitely been missed, Elaine! Have fun visiting your family and shopping with your mom! :)

    4. It is a pretty shade of green. I am pretty sure that there are still a bunch of the green chiffon dot shirts at Stanford Shopping Center in California. Do not know about sizes though.

      Delete
  4. Adding: the Perfect is absolutely the slimmer cut vs. the boy shirt.

    1. Amen! It's totally counter-intuitive, but true. My ample chest cannot fit into perfect shirts. Boy shirts are cut more generously without being boxy, so they look feminine despite the name.

  5. My store is having the 30% off as well, but it is unfortunately final sale.

Question: When a SA at your store calls another store (not through cust serv) to locate an item for you, do you normally NOT get an email from the other store saying they've shipped it?
I guess I'm just worried that it's never going to come...and I have nothing to show for it b/c it was an exchange and my retail store has the sweater I exchanged...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've done that once or twice and I didn't get an email. Once, the item didn't come at all, but the store was very understanding and fixed it.

      Delete
    2. No email. A receipt was included in the package.

      Delete
    3. Ok, thanks guys. I guess I will pray it arrives! Since customer service couldn't help me (it wasn't in their system b/c it was store to store), they said to call back if I don't get it by next Wednesday.

  6. I would like to visit my B&M sometime this weekend. My Black Friday/Cyber Monday orders arrive today, and I will be choosing which to keep and which to return.

I still can't believe I scored on the Bow Coat that was on promo last Monday, plus the 30% card member promo-I paid only $204 before tax. Sad that they changed their mind and the Bow Coat is back to its original price. I think it was a mistake on their part by putting it out on sale. Oh JCrew...

Also about the new roll-out. There's not much to love...except for a few items I like, which I can wait to buy on sale.

  7. I really REALLY wanted the pave necklace (and was even ready to buy it full price) but it already sold out. I was told it was an online only item...does anyone know if that's true. I'm so disappointed!

  8. Checking out the local store, as well as the factory one. I have a couple of returns to make.

  9. I went yesterday--bought the flocked velvet dot ponte dress (couldn't help it, loved the other ponte dress so much I just had to, plus the promo). Tried on the new bow blouse and...didn't love it. I wish it were longer or more tailored in the waist. I couldn't see wearing it untucked because it just kind of hung on me, and I was convinced that tucked in it would be half-untucked (J Crew style!) in 20 minutes. Loved the print and the bow on the neckline though!

  10. No store for me this weekend but we'll be in Vancouver for a wedding next weekend and staying in a hotel at Pacific Centre, which is only a short walk to Robson. We will pass right by on our way to Miko for sushi so how can I not stop in?

  11. This probably belongs in the "reviewa" section - but the double cloth coat in Neptune Green arrived today and I knew it was going back before I opened the package.

First, the color is a dull Sensodyne toothpaste green. I am not sure how many people will be flattered by this color. Maybe I am being harsh. It is kind of pretty and definitely unique. But in some lights it is definitely dull.

Worse is the double cloth itself. It is definitely different from my 2008 double cloth lady day. It seems rougher and less refined. Grainier.

I ordered my normal petite size and the fit was weird too. Boxy in front and slim on the side. The belt did not sit correctly and I can see why they keep styling the models without it. Sleeves were on the shorter side.

One nice thing was the length. It hits exactly at the knee (I am 5-2 and wear a 00P). Sleeves were a bit short. The covered placket and high color are nice touches as they keep you warm.

I recommend sizing up to get longer sleeves and if you want to layer anything under it. If I were to keep this it would be a fall or spring coat so i wouldn't be doing much layering.

I took some pictures if anyone is curious about the color. Email me at florapower9@gmail.com.

The coat was so pretty in the catalogues that I am kind of bummed out.

  12. Another question - how long has it been taking for them to process returns? Sent about $1000 worth of merchandise back two weeks ago...not proceesed yet! I am more than a little concerned. A Boden package sent to England ont he same day has already been processed.

    1. Contact customer service. I've had a similar problem before and they "pre-returned" the items once they verified that they received the box (even though it was still in waiting to be "processed"). Did it very willingly too!

  14. FYI California JCAs: JC does not ship the Lula glitter flats to California due to a new glitter law. Apparently the glitter used in these shoes was recently banned by the state. I was able to pick up a silver pair in my local B&M. I guess those arrived before said law. I'm hoping the gold make it to super sale since there is a whole (large) state that can't buy these shoes. If so, I will pick up the gold pair and ship them to my sister's house in CT.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Wow. What a law! I guess that happens a lot, especially in CA, but it always seems so random. Does this mean that you can't even buy the glitter shoes off ebay? I can't even imagine that most sellers would know not to send such an item to CA.

      Delete
    2. We have a law like that in Canada about snakeskin, so some of the snakeskin JC items can't be shipped to Canada. I know there was a belt that couldn't be shipped here, but oddly the snakeskin Valentinas could.

      Delete
    3. I can understand a law about a material which could be considered related to a protected species etc. Cannot understand (or find) any law about glitter. I note the Lulas are imported from Italy but still. And generally the law about toxic substances in CA requires disclosure of the toxic material, not a ban. Now if you are a plastic bag in San Francisco, that is another matter altogether.... : )

      Delete
  15. Hm, I live in California and have not heard about any ban on glitter! It is possible that there is a toxic substance in certain glitter which would make it subject to disclosure under a proposition about disclosing hazardous materials but I assure you, our stores are full of glitter merchandise. Including glitter merchandise at JCrew. I tried to search for any such news and have not found anything relevant. Hmmmmmmmm

    1. I was really disappointed when I couldn't order them. My VPS called JC and that is what she was told. It's weird. I was able to order the glitter belt, so it must be something specific to the flats.

  16. I'll be going next week to return the Polka Dot Sequin top. After I ordered it I was able to try it on in the store. Not surprised to find it very short waisted on me. If I were to wear it with cafe capris , my skin would probably show. I would have to wear a shirt under it and that really limits useage. So back it goes. Also ordered the Scatter Sequin sweater, probably won't like it in person. I'm hoping the Popcorn stitch sweater is nice....and not weirdly cut. I ordered a Tommy Hilfiger black watch plaid trench from Macy's this morning on sale with additional 25% off. Came to around $104.00.....hoping it fits. I tried the JCrew blackwatch slim trench and it was too slim cut across the shoulders, back and arms for me. Hoping Tommy is a little more generous in cut. Other than that I don't see anything a the Crew or any store I want. I haven't been very impressed with this fall/winter's clothing.

  17. The Tommy Hilfiger trench that straycat ordered looks really nice. It was one of my personal picks for the Macy's Friends & Family event which I blogged about here earlier today. The extra nice thing about the promo is there are very few exclusions, so a lot of designer items are available at the extra 25% off, too.

  18. I don't plan on visiting this weekend. If I do go to the mall during the holidays, I try to do it during the weekday when it isn't quite as busy. When I was in J.Crew the other day to return two sizes of the University Coat that didn't fit my son (I had to order 4 coats before finding the right one for him), there was noone else there but me, two SAs, and the manager. I didn't have much time to look around that day, but there really is not that much that I'm interested in right now anyways. Plus the store usually doesn't get the items that I'd really like to try, so I end up having to order them online. I did check on the herringbone quilted vest when I was there, however, and they had all sizes except for the XXSMall, which is the one I need. It was the Orlando store if anyone is looking for the vest now.

  19. The UVillage store in Seattle had some new markdowns, much lower than tagged prices. Bootcut cords were 29.99 minus the extra promo, if you got that (over $150). The printed silk square, the blue and black dot one, cost me $19 with markdown and promo. Madewell had some good sale items, too, including the spotted pictureshow tee for $24 and the shrunken dropdot boy shirt for $28. It was still 72 on the web.

  20. Am I making it up or have there been many more promotions than usual for this time of year? It seems as though the 25-30% promotions have been non-stop since September. And yet I see that revenue is up for JCrew.

I'd love for the retail economists and others-in-the-know in the JCA community to tell us whether this season has been a success for the company given the disappointment that many of us feel about the offerings.

I have purchased quite a bit over the last few months but the items have been basic (pencil skirts, merino sweaters, chinos, Bryce boots) and purchased at 60-70% off (or more!).

    ReplyDelete
  21. I went to Copley (Boston) over lunch and was astounded by the enormous sale section. Biggest I've ever seen it. There had to have been 200 pairs of cafe capris of various colors and patterns. Not many dresses though - the few that were there have been lingering. Tons of shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I peeked in my local store quickly today, and they have a very full section with what seem to be(to me) second markdowns. The Invitation polka dot clutch is $69.99, The Luster lace mock neck was $69.99 and many other things were marked lower than I recall from the other day. The sale section was full. There was a 25% off $150.00 or more, but no more 30% off of sale.

  23. I haven't been in my local B&M stores much this fall, but when I have I've been the only person in there. I went on Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend and there were only a couple of people looking through the sales area. The SA's even commented on how quite it's been. I'm wondering if this is happening all over the country, and if J. Crew is paying attention. All I can say is that I haven't wanted anything from the fall/winter rollouts, or if I did order, the items just didn't fit me right and I've returned them. I don't even like the jewelry, and I LOVE jools! I've pretty much given up on the Crew for now. Hopefully spring will bring some better things. But from what I see in the previews everything looks really crazy.

  24. Went to my local store (Tysons, VA) to do returns and ended up with a rather large purchase. Still 30% off over $250 there.

Picked up a few shoes, ceces in neon azalea for $50 before discount; macalister high heel boots in navy for $110 before discount, martina patent tortoise wedges for $130 before discount (yes size up 1/2) AND, score of the day, black patent valentinas for $130 before discount.

Also picked up the navy lace mock for $70 before discount, collection cafe capri in jade jacquard for $120 before discount, bow earrings for $43 before discount. Also girls' short puffer in electric pink -- daughter will LOVE -- for $100 before discount and a few more things for her.

  27. Okay, so, this doesn't belong here but I had to share this: I have a JC featherweight cashmere sweater that I bought in late summer. Actually it wasn't called featherweight -- it's the neon multistripe boatneck and I LOVE it. I wore it for the first time today, got stinky cat food on it so washed it on handwash cycle in a mesh bag with JC cashmere wash and sure enough, out comes a 1/2 inch HOLE. First wash. Was about to dump it b/c it would make me upset everytime I see it, but then looked up mending instructions on the internet and they worked perfectly.

    http://www.ehow.com/how_5806133_repair-holes-cashmere-sweaters.html

So, keep that cashmere thread JC sends along with their cashmere, esp. for the thinner knits.

Overall, I'd say the JC regular and heavier weights are much much improved and I recommend wholeheartedly, but featherweight ANYTHING -- cashmere or cotton -- is just doomed. Bummer.

  28. Yes, did some returns at one store last night. Again, sale section huge no one in the store practically and nothing caught my eye as 'must have'. Gigi, I saw the signs, too, but just thought it was the original promo. When I think about it now, though, the signs didn't say anything about spending $150 or more. There were a couple of additional markdowns, too. Some of the merino turtlenecks were $39.99; the merino long cardigans in selected colors were $29.99. Boot cut cords (black, brown, ivory) were $29.99. All the snake print scarves were gone so I'm guessing they got another cut too but cannot confirm. Merino stripe scarves marked down again, too ($29.99, I think). Maybe the powers that be want to move the merch, FINALLY!!

Shopalot, there have been consistent promos. Either 25% off or 30% off the sale section. I never saw those scarves lower than $39.99. It's too bad we can't have confidence in the price on the ticket.

Even on there worst day--it's still mostly "our favorite store"--otherwise there wouldn't be so much focus on attention on J.Crew, right?!! Enjoy the thrill of all your J. Crew pieces!!!

  44. Anyone buy the stadium cloth cocoon coat? How do you find the sizing? I ordered it with the promo in grey (won't ship until January though). Ordered size 0 (am 5'3" and petite overall) but I'm wondering if it will swim on me still. Any petite ladies have the coat?

    1. @Kat - For reference, I am 4'11, with 36 chest. I usually wear a Petite 4 in schoolboy blazers or a regular 2 in blazers.

I have tried both size 0 and 00 at a B&M prior to ordering it online, since I knew the cut of the coat is boxy, I needed to size down since a size 2 would be big on me.

So during Black Friday's promo, I ordered the green Cocoon in size 0. I received it last Friday and was excited to try it on.

The Result: It was a 'tad' big-it did feel overwhelming on me because of my stature. The sleeves fell between my wrist and my thumb-its always like with me because I am petite. ;-P

As much as I love the coat, I decided to return the Cocoon back to my B&M store today. My store did have the green in size 00 available, tried it on and thought the 00 fit me perfectly. I think also the coat is very thick, so I had to be mindful in regards with me not looking 'bulky', if I chose the wrong size.

I still would like to own the Cocoon coat, I just can't afford to own both-since I also ordered the Bow Coat during Black Friday's promo. Hopefully they won't run out of size 00 when it goes on sale.

Since you are 5'3, the length of the coat and sleeves in size 0 would probably fit you fine. Good luck! And I hope you get the coat before the holidays...

    2. Kat- I am 5'3" too and bought the cocoon coat in a 0. My store didn't have a 00 but I think it would have been too tight w/ a thicker sweater underneath. The sleeves are a fine, maybe a touch long but not enough to warrant alterations. it's really a gorgeous coat, I hope you get it soon!

    3. @Kat: I got a cocoon coat in size 0 and I am 5'3" 113 pounds. I wear size 0 in cafe capris and no. 2 pencil skirt and i wear xs in most of the sweaters/ 2 in perfect shirts. I never tried on 00 but 0 is perfect for me. I have to say though the first 0 i got was bigger than the 2nd one i exchanged with. I also noticed depending on the color size 0 fit sightly different. I got the dublin green. hope this helps!
@JSR: what size bow coat did you get? I ordered size 2 but now I am wondering I should have gotten 0?

    4. @ladybug007 - Ooh you got the green, too... :) Isn't it gorg! I want that Cocoon coat, still. Hopefully when it goes on sale stores will still have size 00 in green.

That's weird you noticed the size differences with each color on the Cocoon. Hmm...

I ordered the size 2 of the Bow Coat. I had to double check by chatting with a CS online and asked for the measurements - had her compare the Petite 4 schoolboy blazer (chest measurement), and it was the same as the Bow coat's size 2. I guess I could've sized down to a 0, but it might be a tad snug, if I wear a sweater under it.

The cut of the Bow Coat is suppose to be a tad slim, and fall straight down the body. Its such a cool coat, I love it-very early 60's! It goes well with many outfits-from boy jeans & a cotton stripe top to black Minnie's and a chunky grey sweater. I love the mini funnel neck, too. The Bow is not bulky, It's thin, which is fine for SF weather. The length of the sleeves fell between my wrist and my thumb. (darn-cursed short arms)..haha. I guess it wouldn't be a problem to get the sleeves tailored, since there are now buttons on the side.

It should fit you better than me, since you are 5'3, and wear size 0 cafe capris and no2 pencils..
