Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the FALL sale, or to see some new FALL/WINTER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I will probably go because I have a few returns from the 25% off and then 30% off . I am also keeping a few items, midrise cord toothpicks, McAlisters in navy and plaid perfect shirt in Aegean blue, which I am wearing on my blog today, see HERE. I really love the shirt. I will review few other items soon, including Booker mid heels that are most likely a return for me.

  2. Yes, I will stop by to return some Vintage Cords for DH that have a strip on the front that has no nap ... has anyone else had a bald spot on their cords?

On the + side, I received my rewards card, which I plan to use on another color of the Excursion Vest. Thanks to the inspiration of all the great sets in the JCA Polyvore group, I am loving that vest this season.

  3. Yes. I want to go to return the pave heart earrings. They are so unimpressive upon arrival. I really wanted to give them to my niece for Christmas, but they seriously look like they came from the dollar store jewelry department.

Can't wait to see new arrivals and to check out the sale. Has anyone gotten their style guide in the mail yet?

    3. That is, I got the style guide from the store, but I always get one mailed to me too and I have not received that one yet.

  4. Got my Dec. catalog yesterday. So disappointing. I made a game out of trying to find holiday references. I found only a few--a silver star, some wrapped packages, garland, a cut tree in one shot and some boughs in another. Oh, and some disco balls, which I guess are a nod to New Year's. Guess there is no room in the new hipster world of J. Crew to celebrate a good old bourgeois Christmas. It made me want to dig out past holiday catalogs.

  5. I got the December catalog and if it hadn't said "J.Crew" on the cover, I would have thought it was from REI or some other ooutdoor sporting company. Of all the photos, the cover seems the least favorable to sell J. Crew clothing. I don't get it.

  8. yeah... headed to the crew...

returning: the collection pencil skirt in windowpane (really nice. just too big on me.) and the polka dot ponte dress (a little too short... BUT so close. might revisit it if it makes it to sale.)

keeping: jeans, liberty shirt (both no brainers) and the luster lace mock tee which i actually really like especially paired with jeans. also keeping the boys out of print tshirt. (FYI: runs a little small... bought a size 14 but fits a little more snug than the normal size 14)

    1. Miss JR, what denim did you like and plan to keep?

      Delete
    2. i have a hard time with jeans since i have such small hips (about 34"). jeans tend to kinda sag or stick out in the butt/hip area for me... but the matchstick denim fits me perfectly. i liked them so much in the old glory wash, i went a little nuts and ordered the classic rinse and black ones too.

    3. I am built the same way and I highly recommend this years toothpicks, especially midrise. They did not work for me (at all) in the past, but this year they are great, both in jeans (reviewed here) and in cords (wearing today, review coming up).

    4. I love the matchstick jeans as well. I have a hard time with J. Crew pants and jeans (although their skirts and shorts are always perfect.) But I was thrilled with the matchsticks in old glory wash as well. I really wish the colored jeans in matchstick came in lengths, because I know they will be WAY too long on my short self.

  9. OT, but has anyone tried the collection draped georgette blouse? I love the kelly green color, but am concerned it will be too short and sheer. Any input? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is somewhat sheer. Due to the way the waist is nipped in it doesn't really work to tuck in. You'd have to leave it untucked, which looks a little sloppy. I returned the one I ordered.

      Delete
    2. Thanks Cass! I went ahead and ordered it, so we'll see if it works. I'm planning on wearing it with jeans for a date night, so I actually prefer to leave it untucked. My biggest concern at this point is that the waist will be too high for my long torso. At least it's not final sale!

What is the collection skirt in windowpane? Item number? I don't see it on the website. Is it a new arrival?

  12. I also posted this in the Factory thread, but wanted to share here in case anyone is thinking of shopping the Factory store or website this weekend. :)

I went to one of our local Factory stores yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the majority of the merchandise. The Factory Puffer vest is very similar to the retail Excursion vest, and if my size had been available, I probably would have gotten one. The quality of the Factory schoolboy blazers are also very good, and a nice option if you do not want to pay the $$$ for the retail version. There is one in pearl grey sold in the store, and I actually prefer it to this year's retail version. That being said, I do prefer the retail version of the Navy one though, and would recommend that you splurge on it if you are considering one this year.

I ended up getting the Factory skimmer in plaid that many JCAs have recommended and agree that the quality is good on them. I sized up from my normal size 2 to a 4 because I want them to be less fitted due to the pattern of the plaid on the hip/thigh area (which is my 'trouble' spot). I also got a pair of the Bootcut cords in black for around $34. The entire store was 40% off and they allow the educator/student discount on top of that, or else you can use the coupon Alexis shared from an earlier post to get $25 off if you spend at least $125.

I did end up finding the tees for my 3 youngest boys that I was looking for, and they are not any different than the retail version that I saw in the Tampa retail store's Crewcuts section last year.

Oh, and I also want to mention that the Factory Vero clutch is very nice IRL. They only had the black one, but the leather was soft and definitely worth the price with the extra % off. I would hope that the different color options would be the same. :)

    1. Ffm: did you get the skimmers in the glen plaid of the tartan plaid? Just curious about the sizing because like you the thighs fit different on me than the cafe capri?

      Delete
    2. Hi Shopping Celle - I purchased the Factory Skimmer in Black Watch plaid, which is actually the same plaid/colors as the Perfect shirt in Tartan. They pants are really cute in person and will be fun and festive to wear for the Holidays.

      Delete
    3. Should be 'The pants' not they pants. Sorry!

      Delete
    4. Hi FFM, Are your referring to the factory professor blazer? How's the sizing compared to retail schoolboy? Thanks.

      Delete
    5. Hi kikki cee - No, I'm pretty sure the pearl grey was a schoolboy. They also had one in a brown check, which was equally nice. I think it was $188 before the discounts. I usually find the factory merchandise to run a bit larger than the retail store, so I usually opt for my retail size or go down a size if the garment has generous proportions to begin with.

      Delete
    6. Thanks for the super fast response, FFM.

    7. Totally agree with FFM on the quality of the Factory skimmers in the holiday plaid. I like them much better than the holiday plaid pants (cafe capri--item 16533) that I tried on in the JC store...fabric seems lighter/nicer in the Factory version, the plaid matches on my pair (didn't in the retail store), and they are lined. I liked the plaid on the retail version a bit better, but overall, the Factory pants were the winners for me.

    8. I agree about the navy schoolboy - I bought mine a few years back at the factory, and it's started to pill. It just doesn't look very nice anymore. I will probably replace it via retail. I do have a few factory schoolboy/professor blazers that I really do like and think are great quality.

  16. I just got back from my b&m. There was a lot of new merchandise I haven't seen online. It looked like an explosion of bows. Bow print blouses, multiple bow print sweaters, etc... Either that, or it was dots. It's starting to feel just too trendy to me for the prices they're charging. For example, these bow sweaters - the material on them is so cheap but by the same token, you're probably not going to get much more than one season's worth of wear out of them. Fine, if they're charging $25 like at ON, but for $90 or whatever? Ok, now I will talk out of both sides of my mouth. They had a new critter sweater that really is adorable. It's a cat, but it's not smack dab in the middle like the rest. The kitty is down on the lower right side. Super cute. I'm still not going to buy it at the price they're charging, but I will say it's the first critter item this season I've been remotely drawn to. Of course, I'm a cat person, so that helps, lol! Oh, and at least at my b&m, the sale stuff was the same old, same old. 30% off final sale still happening.

I also went into Madewell and saw lots of stuff I really liked. I bought a really nice striped top w/a cute bow in the back at the neck.

    2. Hmm, Jruby18, I kinda laughed at the hen and dog sweaters but said I'd consider a cat, LOL. What color is it?

      Delete
    3. It's a very dark navy or a black and the kitty is tan and not that big. It is cute. :-)

    4. Ooh, count me in on the cat critter love!

      Delete
    5. I want the kitty. Was it a dream sweater?

      Delete
    6. Seconded. I tried on the black dress with velvety polka dots and the grey sweater with lack bows ($98, I believe). And it's just not good quality. I mean, 148 for a 100% poly /nylon dress? If you want to see the items on me, I have pictures posted on my blog See Alice Go

      Delete
    7. I never paid that close attention to the materials of those sweaters, but it looked the same to me.

      Delete
    8. I can't wait to see the cat sweater! Now that is one "critter" I can get on board with. I wonder when more new arrivals will show up online?

      Delete
    9. I saw the cat this morning. It this definitively navy, same fabric than the other critter sweaters. The kitty is a mustard-y yellow and is on the bottom side, like a kitty standing on a roof. It is very sketched/childish but adorable, especially if you are a cat person.

    10. Rynetta has a photo on her blog. I decided that as much as I love cats it's not right for me, as I don't care for the off-center placement and color combo. (Also, this may just be my filthy mind, but IMO there is something "odd" about the cat.) I think that others will enjoy this kitty and I will just have to wait for my cat in a beret smoking a cigarette!

      Delete
    11. I see it too. Pass. Maybe members of the design team were to polite to point it out.

      Delete
    12. Cute, but not for me :( I was hoping for more of a cat silhouette like the Scottie dog factory sweater. Oh well, money saved I suppose. And yes, it is a bit "odd"!

  17. I read a few reviews on the Lady jacket in double serge wool, but now that it moved to final sale, I am reluctant to order. I am usually an XXS or 00, but the lady day coat I bought during the last outerwear promo was a little snug in 00. The schoolboy in 00 is really fitted but not uncomfortable. What size do you think I should go with in the Lady jacket? Does it run big? It looks absolutely adorable online!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anthro Blogger: Final Sale has ended for now, so the jacket will be returnable. I know the website still says it is final sale, but that is a website glitch. According to the chat rep, the jacket is returnable now. I saved the chat session stating that and would be more than happy to email it to you if you like. :)

      Delete
    2. Also, if it makes you feel more at ease, you could call to place the order for the jacket, and have the CSR make a note that it is not final sale now.

    3. The pink jacket seems larger then the gray one and fits boxier as others have reported. I'm curious if anyone has a review on the yellow. I'm returning the pink and keeping the grey...but I like the yellow too :)

    1. If I purchased something and the balance was on my J Crew CC, I always have gotten a credit to my J Crew CC not a gift card. HTH

  20. I went today to return ourtreat items.

I didn't go to the downtown SF location, but the small store at Stonestown. Same old sale items. Nothing new to report. I bought myself the Boy Shirt in Grey Tartan and a Hearts iPhone cover to give to my niece for Christmas-which turned out cheap since iPhone covers are currently 25% in store, top it with my 15% student discount came out to $15.94 before tax.

I returned the Lady jacket in gray/navy. I really love the jacket, but I just wished the sleeves were cut longer and not quarter length.

I also returned the grand stone necklace. It looks cheap. Maybe its just me but for the price of the ourtreat promo @ $123, its not worth it. The chain of the necklace looks like its made with plastic that you spray painted in gold. The stones, although pretty, just looked cheap. I will try my luck with the Lulu Frost necklaces. Maybe I should be selective when buying J.Crew jewelry, considering not just the design, but also quality.

  23. DH and I are returning some sweaters…including the handknit popcorn sweater. Talk about disappointing :( … the weave is so large in the sleeves and the back of the sweater, I am extremely doubtful it would make it through the season without a hole. And at $100+, it's maddening to me how the quality compares to the men's lambswool sweaters.

I took a chance and ordered small sizes of the men's lambswool v-necks and they are lovely by comparison. I guess the extra $$ in the popcorn sweater comes from the knots and cable detailing, but I wouldn't put it at *twice* the price of a men's lambswool sweater! The v-neck lambswool sweaters were $40 and come in classic colors. I envy how DH has the choice of lambswool, merino wool, cotton, cotton-cashmere, and cashmere fabrics, while I'm stuck with primarily cashmere or (cheaper) blends. Boo!

  24. Did some returns tonight. Liberty Shirt, Baby Brompton (too small). Nothing much in the sale section, lots of the same old stuff that has been hanging around for months. I think they need to totally discount it to try and get it moving, since it is not going even with 30% off.

  25. OT, but I did some Christmas Shopping, stopped by GAP with a 50% off one item email I received (had to use gap card), ended up getting their version of a school boy-ish blazer--black watch plaid. Normally 98.00, half price. Is it as nice as the J. Crew Schoolboy? No. It isn't. Is it a great bargain? Yes. It is. It is perfect to wear on bad-weather days and those days when I don't want to ruin my J. Crew schoolboy. It isn't bad at all. Just thought I would share.
