"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Just a quality vent . . . I scored the Cece tortoise flat at an amazing price, so I shouldn't complain too much, but for an original price of $138 I was pretty shocked at the quality. After I put them next to my 2009 tortoise Juliets I had to run back to look at the receipt to make sure I hadn't been sent vinyl Factory shoes by mistake. Compared to the older leather in this same pattern, the Ceces looked like plastic--a huge quality gap.

  2. Went into a store yesterday for the first time this fall (which says something about how insipid the fall collection has been; usually I'm trying to pare down all that I want). Was able to try on the long-sleeved tweed dress - what a disappointment. Won't even pick it up when it goes to a deep discount.

    1. I agree with D*ska about Final Sale. Enough already. It was gone by this time last year. Hopefully we will see Fall Sale after the OURTREAT promo is over.

  4. I'm in the process of getting a begrudging price adjustment over chat. Two sweaters I ordered at full price plus the 25% off that's still running went on sale so I asked for the adjustment. I was told that "they might not be able to do this again in the future" and I reread their price adjustment policy and I'm assuming it's because I used the promo: a) they WERE full price, not in the sale setion and b) the promo is still running so if I reordered them today I would get a lower price. At MINIMUM I think that if an order meets those criteria then adjust the price and not make me feel like you're doing me a favor! I'm a cardholder and the order total was over $200, it's not like I'm not going to spend that refund right back at J Crew! For the love of Pete, I bought their overpriced polka dot cashmere sweater at full price this summer! (Which still makes me sweat just to think about.)

    1. Same thing happened with me. I ordered the ribbed cashmere sweater, reg price less 25%, and then yesterday it was reduced, and still available in my size (all sizes) . I emailed my VPS for an adjustment, as the sweater JUST arrived yesterday, same day as price reduction. Maddening.

  6. You can return final sale items in store. I was informed by an SA that final sale is final sale when returning online but its not final sale if you return to the store AS LONG as there's not an "extra % off SALE" promotion going on. So even if it ends in .99, and it says final sale online, you can return sale items in store. And there's no promo that's exclusively % off sale right now. I've already returned a couple "final sale" items.

    1. Were They marked final sale on your invoice? would they let you return them if your invoice said final sale and had a little star anyway? My store won't. However I did notice several items in 99 today that did not show up with the final sale when I went to check out. Nor on the final check out page. I am wondering could I return those online and still get my money back?

  7. The colors online don't seem to match their names; without seeing them in person I'm unsure of what color they actually are. Does anyone know if the Dark Poppy in the wool pencil skirts is red or orange?

  8. Rant and Rave: Hole in my almost new Tippi polka dot sweater (which I love). But...SA ordered me a new one and had it mailed to me no charge from a store out of state. Went to my B&M and returned the old one with the hole without any problem at all. Very good customer service! (Let's just hope I don't get a hole in the new one.)

  9. I just received the cashmere boyfriend cardigan in the mail - fit is great, color is great, but the quality of the yarn is awful. It's scratchy and thin. I have other cashmere sweaters from them, this does not compare. I'm so disappointed. Even at 25% off, I don't think it's worth it, not by a long shot.
