What's Your "Top 3 J.Crew Items"?

With the addition of new sale items from previous seasons, as well as new arrivals (already online and in-stores,) I thought it would be fun and interesting to have a post on what Aficionadas and Aficionados select as part of their "top 3 coveted items list" and why. :)

My top three would include: (1) the Victoria ruffle shirt (Item 99694, $89.50) in white. I saw the shirt in person and I just love love love those ruffles! I think it would look great underneath a sweater- a bit of feminine flair for my normal crew neck or v-neck sweater and trouser pants. (2) the Victoria ruffle cami (Item 99742, $88.00) in classic navy. Same reasons as the shirt version- but I could wear the cami during the Spring and Summer seasons, underneath a t-shirt or other short sleeve shirt. (3) the Snow-leopard Simone peacoat (Item 96475, $260.00). I thought the jacket was pretty online, but it is even more beautiful in person. I just love the collar and how it delicately drapes over the shoulders.

What top 3 items are you currently coveting? Also, what is the reason behind the selection of those items (e.g. love the fit, color, style)? :)

  1. I am new to jcrew ~ don't know where I've been! Top 3: merino rose cardi, black or navy cashmere cardi, glass button merino cardi. Too many to limit to 3. When, when, will these go on sale?

  2. 1)Cashmere Heirloom Henley - I love the style - would take any color - love it.
    2) Golden Roses Cherie Cami - I love gray and yellow together
3)Emerson blouse in plum - I love the color and the style.
Will have to figure out which of the blouses I will buy using reward card and which will have to wait for sale - decisions, decisions. Anybody have an opinion on which one will sell out and which will end up on dreaded final sale?

  3. OT but does anyone know what happened to the shark skin pencil skirts? They have disappeared?!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Thanks for sharing Caliglam & svid!

It will be interesting to see which items are the most popular among the comments too. :)

  5. Dream Simone Cardigan in Graphite & the Maggie in Camel. Waiting for some sort of promo to purchase...
    Twiga

  6. I defintely have a top two; the wool officer's pant and the gallery boots. I'm sure I'll find something else, just like usual there will be something I can't live without. I wonder what would happen if I didn't get it?

  7. I love:

    1. The Blair Dress (navy blue)

    2. Merino melanie cardi in dark peony or golden avacado

    3. Handknit cable popover

    ReplyDelete
  8. My top 3 are: The Victoria Ruffle Cami in Bright Fuschia, The Victoria Ruffle Shirt in Camel, and The Maggie Jacket in Camel, as well. :)

  11. I'd have to say the chiffon rosettes cardi, the handknit cable popover (I LOVE THIS...even though it's not from the newest catalog), and the Victoria striped ruffle shirt (either color). Unfortunately, I have such a small clothing budget that I'm pretty much done for the year :) Hopefully my hubby can take the hint for Christmas presents, hehe...

  12. there's all new fall stuff in the sale section as of this morning at about 9:15 AM. BGD
I love the BULLDOG sequin tee-I searched and found one!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am coveting the Astrid Jacket that has the flowers cascading down the from plackets...need to get on the pre-sale list.

I also am coveting the Victoria Shirts, I have black and white on order, am hoping they work out, as they are stunning but not over the top.

The Glenbrae high heel boots are fantastic as well. I bought a pair in the camel and they are very well made and very comfortable.

    ReplyDelete
  14. francie skirt in majestic purple
cashmere eva sweater in dark peony
maggie (probably in camel, possibly berry or ivory)

I love them because they are classic pieces that I'll be able to wear forever with so many other items, and the first two will inject some lovely color into my wardrobe!

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1. The Victoria long sleeve in black and/or camel stripe.

    2. Victoria cami in olive

    3. The Golden Roses skirt that is shown on the website, but I guess not available yet??

    ReplyDelete
  16. OT-
sale section has a lot of newer items marked down (obviously not brand new but items people have been patiently waiting to go down in $ :)

    svid-
I would get the cami first, the Emerson second and the cashmere last (sale!!) just my opinion on the desirability. BTW-the Emerson blouse is really very pretty--different in a simple and elegant way but not as "catchy" as others thus the above order of purchase-just my 2 cents:)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh and let me add-why couldn't they put the newer items in the FS when there was add'l discount?? DO they REALLY want to move this stuff or what? So annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am also in love with the Art Deco tank, I can wear it with jeans and a cashmere black cardi, and the chiffon rose tee-I snagged one when they first came out and I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am now jcrewlover...formerly known as BGD, I made a name ages ago and forgot what it was. BGD

  20. flaneuse, No measurements on the flower boucle Astrid are available yet and sizing is a little different...according to the specialist I spoke with....I am waiting...best to try this one on.....maybe like the sizing on the Mandy boucle last year...???

    ReplyDelete
  21. OT-
Did anyone notice the "lollipop guild" shoes are on sale-I am so surprised-:)LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  22. i love the lea cardigan in cornsilk and black, the university herringbone pants in camel, and the merino turtleneck. also still waiting for the double serge pencil skirt in ochre or ivory to go on sale, as well as the glass button merino cardis and the fall color jackies, but not having any luck with those!

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1. Cashmere Heirloom Henley in Putty or Blade Green

    2. Smock Stitch Tissue Tank in Mellon (or any color really)

    3. Wool Cashmere Carrie Coat in Ivory or Black (I already have a new camel coat for this winter) - I absolutely love the color of this coat! I want it now!

    ReplyDelete
  24. OT-Lydias on are on sale in all colors now:)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Covert5 - thanks for the advice. I definitely have to wait on the henley til FS. I have not seen the emerson, so I am glad to know that it is pretty - I love that it is understated. I love the Victoria but don't feel I have the personality for it ( I am also petite so I think it might overwhelm me). I will probably take your advice and get the Cherie 1ST...btw love this post

    ReplyDelete
  26. Does anyone know how the Art Deco tank fits? I'd love to buy it, but everything seems so inconsistent lately. For example, I bought the hammered silk tanks in an 8 and I normally wear a 12! Thanks,

    jbird

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sorry so many off topics-
I have been dying to get opinions and don't know where else to ask (maybe we should have ongoing blog for fit, style, sale comments etc. questions so not to clog up a specific topic).
Anyway--do you all feel the color represented by the item or the color on the model is most accurate. I will give an example Art Deco Tank item 97338 click the box (pic pops up of item)and see how golden yellow it is and then see the model. I think it's the model color--maybe that should be obvious but I guess I am not totally sure. Same with hammered silk tank in yellow--I like the box color but don't think I can do the model color with skintone. THanks!

    ReplyDelete
  28. jbird,
email or call CS and ask for the measurements in the tanks you have and use them to compare it to the actual garment measurements of the Art Deco tank...I did that and used them to figure out my size.

    Julie

  29. I know everyone is in love with the Maggie jacket but I really love the Aubrey jacket in golden cypress! Such a unique design.

Victoria ruffles- shirts and camis- I love them both!!

The Issy sweater jacket- Love the collar, but I wish it came in oter colors!

    ReplyDelete
  30. covert5 - i completely agree on the coloring issue, sometimes it seems completely off. i'm unsure about ordering the victoria cami in the bright fuchsia because the little box color is significantly lighter, and so is the tank alone, but the picture of the model wearing it is WAY brighter!

    ReplyDelete
  31. kate!: The Bright Fuschia Victoria Cami is very intense and bright...it's comparable to the Bright Pink Lana Top, if you ever saw it IRL. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  32. FFM-
Do you notice on your computer the difference between the model and the color block that you click to see the item alone? Big difference! I think the one on the model pic is WAY brighter than the square/item pic. I have this blouse and in this case the model pic is inaccurate-WAY brighter. I don't always think that though. Does anyone have the Art deco tank and can clarify which color it really is--golden yellow like the square/item color shows or yellow on the model? Or the Yellow Hammered silk tank--yellow (model) or golden yellow (item/square)?? It is interesting...

    ReplyDelete
  33. 9:32--the shark pencil skirts are now in the final sale section :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. fyi, some new items in FS:

    boucle tweed penny jacket
    isabel blouse
    annette blouse
    featherweight merino glass button cardigan
    flower clasp bracelet in aqua

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ok, I already own the Victorias, so I'll list things I want to own. Oh, and I'm at work and no access to JCrew site, so I don't have the specific names of the items, just descriptions.

    1) Cashmere Heirloom Henley - like svid, I love all the colors, but I'm leaning toward navy.

    2) the grey square-shaped bracelet ($85)

    3) the long, double-strand grey beaded necklace w/gold & crystal flower on the side ($175) - I tried on in store, and I am seriously LUSTING after this. Hopefully I'm getting a rewards card or some promo comes along to justify the purchase. The price is just a bit too much right now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am so in love with the:

    Star Simone Cardigan in Graphite

Victoria Ruffle Cami in Bright Fuchsia

Maggie in Camel (although I do think the berry or yellow would be stunning!)

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1. The Victoria ruffle shirt, white. I'm thinking that the white is more versatile, plus sometimes stripes make me dizzy-- like when I click on the black and white Victoria photo on the website, I can't focus too long on it! (Anyone else?) Am loving all the reviews on it; it was pretty much the only thing I wanted from the (scanned) catalogue.

    2. Either the flats or the Juliet midheels in peacock... or driftwood... or blanched almond. I'm not particular. :)

    3. Still stalking the super 120s dress in royal violet. It's not at a price that I'd want to pay.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh yeah, and the Marie coat in blue, which is used as the banner for this post. I loove the color but want something warm-- I just don't think, "shortish length" or "double cloth"...

    ReplyDelete
  39. The sharkskin skirts are in the sale section, as others have confirmed, but they are definitely not pencil skirts. They are very much A-line. Those terms are not interchangable for me. I wear pencil but not A-line style. I love the colors and wish they were pencil style!

    ReplyDelete
  40. 1) I just bought the Chiffon-florette cardigan in Heather Chalk. This is a beautiful, stylish piece that I can wear with so many things, and it's not your basic cardi.

    2) I am craving the Metallic-flecked pencil skirt in black.... so sexy, and yet not over the top.

    3) The Wool flannel golden roses dress is just gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  41. My top three items are the francie skirt, cashmere butterfield jacket, and the crystal garden ring. Love the variety of colors of the francie especially the dark peony and the heather majectic purple. I love all the little flowers the come together to make up the crystal garden ring. So pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Marietta: ow does the chiffon florette cardigan fit? Does it run TTS? TIA! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. flaneuse:

I pre-ordered that jacket - I cannot wait to get it!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Audrey,

I have the Juliet midheels in Peacock. So pretty. I actually haven't worn them yet :-P. I keep going back and forth on keeping them or exchanging them for the black. But then I think, the color is pretty versatile and I've been getting so many neutrals. I think I just need to get the black, too, hehe.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love the herringbone academy pants in both the black with sparkle and the camel with sparkle. I don't know why the description says that the stitching is sparkly: it is the fabric! Can't decide on a color!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'd say the Classic Navy Wool Pants & the . . . . . that's it. Honestly, the new arrivals for men were underwhelming.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I was wondering, has anyone tried to use the free ship code AND the 10% off code together? Just wanted to know if they'll work together.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Cashmere sweaters! Any of the collection ones...

I also like the Dream Simone Cardigans.

    Maggie in any color!

I am holding off on any preorders or buying...I bet in the next week or two there is going to be a 20% off coupon...:) Patience:)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Did anyone know that the Doubt-cloth Lady Day coat is in the sale bin?

    http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Feature_Assortment/catalogjcrewcomexclusives/jackets/PRDOVR~79203/99101491909/79203.jsp

There also seems to be an error with the prices for coats with Thinsulate. Hrm . . .

    ReplyDelete
  50. My vote is also for the Maggie and the cashmere heirloom henley. :) Otherwise, nothing else stood out, but maybe I will change my mind when I see the Victoria in person. It seems so loved!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I just bought the Victoria cami in the dark grey and love it, but other things I'd love to get are:

    - Smock-Stitch Tissue Tank (I live in San Diego, so tanks year-round are more realistic for me)
    - Issy Sweater-Jacket (tried this on and it's really cute, but like some others have said, not quite $150-worthy)
    - Maggie jacket

I also thought that since this is the early holiday roll-out, that they'd have more new dresses - I have a few holiday parties and weddings to go to and would love a fun new dress!

Does anyone have the Metallic Vita Cami or Quinn Cami? For the Vita, I love the top in general, but don't love the silver color. And I think the Quinn is really cute, but again they don't have it in my local store so I'm curious what anyone who's seen it in person thinks. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Where are you seeing the Astrid with cascading flowers? I'd love to see a picture of it as it sounds stunning! :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. jcrewjunkie: It's on the website in the J.Crew Collection Lookbook. :) Btw...the roses are supposedly hand sewn on, and it comes in Black, as well as Ivory.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I was told the flowers are not very formed...they are more a ruffle effect...thus, the use of "cascading"...they are not a tightly woven rose...a little disappointed with that fact....

    ReplyDelete
  55. Here's sale report from my store (45th and Madison): still having extra 30% off. Added to sale section:

    Berry-trim astrid in blue
    Floral silk trim astrid
University pants in yellow and sweet potato
    abstract rose-print skirt
lydia blouses in ivory and navy
    dream herringbone sweaters
    sharkskin skirt
and some other leftover stuff--ecoles, fionas etc.

    ReplyDelete
  56. In other words...I am trying to clarify my explanation--I directly asked if the flowers kind of flop or droop and the lady said yes...concerning the jacket:( She even measured them for me!

    ReplyDelete
  57. OT: For those who own the Victorian Ruffle Cami, did you size down? How does it fit? Also, how bright is the Bright Fushia? It looks Neon on the Model but not as Neony in the picture of the blouse alone. Can anyone help with the color? Also, what do you think of the Golden Olive? Thanks in Advance.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The victoria ruffle cami fits me true to size and the pink is very bright:)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anon @ 12:49pm, Thank you for your insight. What color did you purchase? If it's the pink, how would you wear it since it's really bright?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I like bright pink...I have the Lana top in pink...I will wear it with a black or ivory cardigan...most likely...haven't had a lot of time to play with it...navy would also look nice!

    ReplyDelete
  61. 1. classic fit essential light weight wool trouser
    2. cashmere v neck sweater
    3. suede MacAlister boots (dark khaki)

    Alexis:

I will be attending another "What a man should know" event this saturday. Let me know if you would like me to report on it.

    ReplyDelete
  62. OT: does anyone have the lady-day coat in burnished yellow? is it like the honey glaze color (which i love)? i am curious to know what the color is really like. i ordered one this morning for $110 because i couldn't resist such a good deal. :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Everyone: I love reading your top 3 picks!!!

Tarik: I would love it if you would guest blog on the next "What a man should know" event. Thank you so much for offering!!! Just email me the review at jcrewaficionada@yahoo.com whenever it is convenient for you. (Thanks again- your offer is really appreciated!) :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Cass, did you see any Soiree jackets or dream silvie dress in XS at the store?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I caved and bought the Golden Roses Renée coat -- I thought it was absolutely gorgeous and such a statement coat. Definitely my top item from this new collection. I really hope it's as gorgeous IRL.

Maggie jacket in khaki (although I also caved and got the black one) -- I thought it was such a classic jacket and am looking forward to wearing it for years to come.

Babette jeweled feather peep toes in black -- completely impractical, and probably way too expensive, but they're sort of an art piece. Pretty! I'll bet, however, that I could get some plain peep toes and glue on my own rhinestone center piece and feathers. I sense a project coming on...

    ReplyDelete
  66. joanna - I have the burnished yellow lady day coat. It's a very warm and pretty yellow, but not as dark of a yellow as the honey glaze, if that makes sense. And it's much prettier than the citrony yellows.

    ReplyDelete
  67. 1.) I am and always have been obsessed with J Crew cashmere turtlenecks, because I'm always cold. I like both the cable and regular ones and the ones this year look nice and long, which is great. There are some gorgeous colors too. There is always some pilling of course, so I never pay more than $100.00 unless there's some extraordinary color that's flying off the shelves.

2.) Maggie-What a great little jacket. Not too prim or fussy. Mine just shipped. Whoo!!

3.) The Clea jacket in black houndstooth. Snazzy and sold out.

    ReplyDelete
  68. kitchy7: thank you for your response! i was beginning to have second thoughts after i placed the order because i wasn't too sure about the color. i hope the color will go well with my complexion - it looks like a color that only certain people can pull off.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am wishing for the victoria ruffle cami in bright fushcia, the cashmere heirloom henley in bright papaya or tangelo and the boucle tweed penny jacket in black. I couldn't resist the white victoria ruffle blouse and just paid full price for it along with a final sale donegal tweed suit in heather graphite. I got the same size in the blouse as a did for the suit jacket, a 2, so I hope the blouse fits true to size and is not too boxy - has anyone tried it on?

    ReplyDelete
  70. The new merino line is fantastic! Maybe a little thin from the looks of things on the website, but pretty none the less. I love the colors, especially melon and dark peony! J. Crew did a good job with this one. I also love the Jackie cardigan in dark aquamarine. I also love how J. Crew is doing some yellows without a green tinge to them. I wore my wool v-neck yesterday in cornsilk, and it looked really good.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Oops! Sorry J. Crew. That featherweight merino v-neck was in maize, not cornsilk. Anyway, maize is a great color.

    ReplyDelete
  72. FFM: Thank you for showing me where to look for the Cascading Flowers Astrid...it is gorgeous!!! I think that the ivory is my fav, however, I am sure that the black is beautiful as well!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hi all!

    I love all these posts!

Just a question--does anyone know or think there will be an online percent off final sale soon?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Oh wow, this is a little strange because I am wearing them all right now:
    1. washed favorite shirt in blue mini stripe
    2. vintage slim fit jean (they are the best fitting jean ever)
    3. suede mcalister boots in dark khaki
And IF we were going top 4, I would have to add the Millbrook driving moc because I lived in them up until I found these boots. And maybe 5, if there was a 5, would be my double cloth wool regement striped scarf from last year which has become indispensable (also worn to work on this chilly Capitol Hill day). I'm also trying out a cotton/cashmere cardigan at work today - very few "old man" or "grandpa" comments thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Oh wow...the cascading flowers astrid is amazing. Does anyone have any idea what the price will be?

    ReplyDelete
  76. nils: Tell me more about the vintage slim fit jeans - how they fit, what you like about them, etc.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  77. FYI - (i know this is on another post, but i wanted to share it and thought more people would read it here) I just went to my B&M and picked up a lot of the new sale sweaters - they weren't marked but they actually showed up the sale price!
anyways, they gave me a card after i gave them my e-mail and the card says "J Crew you're offcially on the list... Now you'll be one of the first to know about new arrivals, online exclusives, special offers and more. And as a special thanks for sharing your email address, please enjoy 10% off your next in-store purchase." Then has a bar code and has the normal exemptions. The SA also told me you get one everytime you give your e-mail (every purchase), so i guess its probably just for the people who dont have the student/teacher discount.
ps - thanks FFM for the color help with the victoria!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Alexis,

Can we have a little "favorite JCrew coat" discussion? :)

I love all JCrew coats (seriously considering the double cloth lady day coat and the double cloth tulip coat) but I'd like to hear from people who purchased JCrew coats (I'm pretty sure everyone has one in their closet, even if it's from past seasons-I can go to an outlet store as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. SanFranciscoCA: Too funny! Marta emailed me that same post suggestion today (fav J.Crew coat) and I have it all set to go as a post for tomorrow morning. :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. The Madeline coat, the University pant, the Maggie jacket!

    ReplyDelete
  81. hey kate!

what sweaters did you get on sale that weren't marked?

sounds like a fun surprise, can't wait to hear what you got.

    thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  82. My faves are:

    1. Double-serge pencil skirt in bright blue and deep persimmon - love both bright colors. The tailored fit is fabulous, the wool is very soft and comfortable.

    2. City-fit luxe cord trouser (I have them in chocolate, coal and ivory). Super flattering fit, extremely soft material.

    3. Metallic bouclé houndstooth Clea jacket in black. This is probably my favorite. The fit is awesome. It's a very chic jacket with a little bit of sparkle but not over the top.

Some of the brand new items that came online last week could likely make my list, but I haven't received any of them yet!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Hard to pick just three. However, I will try to be diverse. Along with others, I really like the cashmere henley. Going for black, because I love the contrast of brown buttons with the black. Golden Roses Renee coat. My Grandma had a similar coat that she kept pristine and wore for her last 30 years. Triple strand treasure necklace, but I will not buy it until I can see it in person. Such a fun post

The cascading roses astrid is gorgeous - so glad you all pointed it out. Glad the Penny in ivory did not work, as this is a wonderful replacemenet.

    ReplyDelete
  84. ss: Congrats on the Maggie!

I would love to create a dedicated post of your review of the Maggie if you are writing one. If you are interested in guest blogging, just email me the review at jcrewaficionada@yahoo.com. (Also, thanks for even considering the request!) :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. 1:14--no soiree jackets left, not sure about dream dresses. You could always call the store and ask.

    ReplyDelete
  86. jliz - sorry i might not have explained it well, the sweaters on sale were some of the newly marked down online sweaters (glass button cardigan and one of the crystal button ones) but they hadn't marked it in store. it was just nice not having to say they're on sale online and having them call to verify. sorry about the confusion

    ReplyDelete
  87. I really want the astrid ruffle jacket in red, eggplant cardigan, and the double serge pencil skirt in blue. It keeps popping back up.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I have a question, and am not trying to start anything, I swear. Doesn't the double collar on the Maggie bother anyone but me? I just love that jacket, but the superfluous collar leaves me a little cold. Kind of like my ambivalance to the extraneous collars on the Hedren jackets. Any opinions???

    ReplyDelete
  89. My top 3 are:

    1) J. Crew cashmere hoodies - I can't get enough of these. To me, the cashmere hoodies are the acceptable version of wearing a security blanket out in public. I wish I could buy every single color.

    2) Any J.Crew purse or handbag: the quality is impeccable, the style classy (no tacky visible logos) and they will never go out of style.

3)J.Crew cardigans (both Jackie & cashmere) - again both timeless, classic, comfortable and can be dressed up or down.

    I want them all!!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Hi Crewbie! I just ordered the cardigan today, but I will gladly let you know about the fit as soon as I receive it. I am an XS in their sweaters/cardigans, and if past purchases are any indication, I would think (hope) that this runs TTS. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  91. The tissue turtleneck you can dress it up or dress it down, I love the way the fabric feels, and it is easy to wash.

Yoga jacket, it is more than a gym item, it is dressy enough to do errands in, the rest of the yoga line is for the gym only.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Casual Crew: I couldn't agree more about the tissue turtleneck tees! They are perfect layering pieces for fall and winter. I also find they are super helpful for itchy sweaters. :)

    ReplyDelete
  93. I can't wait to hear about the Maggie - I supposedly have one coming in black...we shall see.
As for the double collar, I thought it was unique without being real showy - an added detail that didn't scream hello look at me! However, once I get it, I might totally agree with you and find it superfluous, jenn!

    ReplyDelete
  94. ss: My Maggie Jacket DID arrive today after all, and it is FABULOUS!!! I got it in the Camel, and wish I could have gotten it in Black or Ivory, too...can't wait to hear what you think about the Berry!

    ReplyDelete
  95. FFM: You have to do an official review to post.

    ReplyDelete
  96. FFM: Congrats on the Maggie! I would love to have you review the jacket too if you wouldn't mind. :)

    ReplyDelete
  97. What a fun topic Alexis! :)

Gosh it's really hard to choose just 3. I'll break mine down by items I already own and then items that are on their way to me or have yet to order. Here we go...

1)Wool Tuesday Trench - so timeless and effortlessly chic and pulled together (plus I LOVE the material)

2)Peacock Hammered Silk Tank - such a gorgeous color that is so striking on all skin tones and looks amazing when combined with so many different colors

3)Butterfield - such a comfy cozy go to piece. Perfect for most occasions (However, It's at the bottom of this list due to the steep price)

    Still haven't received:
    1) Maggie in Camel - I really hope this is as great as it seems online! It should be arriving this week.

    2) Golden Roses Tank - Haven't ordered this but love the color combo and the shape!

3)Victoria Shirt in Camel Stripe - the shirt looks beautiful on the hanger but I have yet to try it on. I expect it to arrive this week and hope the ruffles don't overwhelm my face.

I should add that I LOVE all the long cardis too I find them to be so flattering and slimming! :)

  98. YAY FFM!! I'm so glad it's a LOVE!!! Congrats!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. FFM- do we know if the Maggie is in stores? I am totally in between sizes and find J crew sizing to be not very consistent. How is the fit? TTS? Yikes, I guess with Free shipping I could order both and return one!
OT- the Merino rose cardigans are on sale for $88. Not enough for me, but just an FYI for everyone.
    Twiga

    ReplyDelete
  100. Jenn- I love that extra collar on the Maggie. It's a subtle detail that adds to the piece overall, rather than standing out or being distracting. Also, I have a long Audrey Hepburn type neck, and that extra bit of wind protection will be very welcome. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  101. I have loved reading about everyone's picks! I'd probably add the maggie to my own list, just because I don't have a "dress up" coat. Living in the mountains, I have more of the outdoor performance coats that keep me toasty. The maggie looks very classy though. Hope you all enjoy it!

Can't remember if I made this comment before (can't find it anywhere) but it'd be fun to have a post about when we "fell in love" with j.crew...like when we knew it was the brand for us :) I know we'd get a lot of great stories from everyone that would be fun to read. Just a suggestion!

definitely have to be the ruffle henley (that's an oldie)
cashmere peplum jacket in bright blue
and i'm definitely loving the ruffle long sleeve blouse in the blk stripe also.

  103. Gosh! My 3 favorites are a little different than the 3 new (this season) pieces I seem to wear again and again.
    Open Dream Cardigan
    Bootcut cords
    merino lady sweater

My Favorites (that I seldom have a chance to wear, such is life with a baby and a preschooler! (But I wouldn't trade this time for anything))

    Blue Astrid
    Victoria striped blouse
    Issy sweater jacket

    ReplyDelete
  104. amy,
the cascading flower jacket will be 425. and while someone(i think ffm?)mentioned it would also be in black, when i called the rep told me only ivory. the price is definately correct as she had to ask the special occassions coordinator because they had the correct info.

can we talk about this for a second? anyone else's opinions? i LOVE the jacket, it would be my number one, two, and three, but i don't know that it is worth $425!
what is the general concensus? to me that is outrageous. even 300 i could see, but 425?

    ReplyDelete
  105. hdayton: How do you wear your Issy? Mine should be arriving any minute now and I have been trying to think of how I can wear it "casually" (which is the only way that I dress since I am the mother to a preschooler, middle schooler, and high schooler...all boys!! LOL.) Also, is the Dream Open Cardi warm? Is it like a jacket? I am thinking that the Carrot would look so pretty with my Watercolor Print Eliza (which I have yet to wear). Thank you for any info that you can give me. MUCH appreciated! :)

    ReplyDelete
  106. FFM: How does the Maggie fit? TTS? I am not sure if I should get a regular or petite. My Andrea and Berry Astrid are 4P, but my Ecole is a regular size 2 as is my Bella from last year. I just can't seem to figure out J Crew's sizing anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Thanks for the comments on the collar of the Maggie. I just could not get past it in the pictures, but loved the fit and cut so much. Guess it works in person, which is all I needed to know.

HDayton - Isn't the Issey fun and flattering? I tried on this weekend, but wanted to wait until I was home from Vaca to purchase.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Jcrewjunkie - I am a mommy too and thought that the Issey would look great with jeans and a cami. However, I do not get cold easily, so that might not be a choice for everyone. I am most excited about having that neckline to wear with the 100" long pearl strand I just bought. The Issey would also look great with a slightly showy belt because of how the bottom is a little swingy and there will be glimpses of it as you move around.

  109. My list:
    Stadium Shipley coat
    Victoria Ruffle Cami (Slate,ivory)
    Garden bracelet (Thick)

I have the victoria ruffle in slate and want it in ivory as well. I'm debating whether to get the lydia in ivory since it is on sale? Or wait and get victoria cami in ivory? For those of you who own lydia what do you think? Also does anyone know when JCREW usually sends out promotional coupon/code for new arrivals? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  110. I really like the Maggie but will wait for a sale. Everyone was so paniced about it and all sizes and all colors are available now...remember the marketing tricks! I am not falling for JCrew's we are only making so many! Yes, things do sell out but the Simone Snow Leopard Jacket is also back in stock, all sizes--about 6 weeks ago it was all but gone! Patience...the sales will come on all our coveted items:)

    ReplyDelete
  111. My three general favorites are:

    - pj pants (the first thing I put on when I come home from work)
    - my peacoat (so classic and warm)
    - bootcut cords (stretchy and always comfortable)

I'll have to think about what my favs from the new catalog are - everything looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Anonymous - My garden bracelet arrived today, I bought the metallic graphite. It is just so lovely and fun. Will dress up or down and go with almost every color. Also, not as heavy as I expected, which is nice after all my summer cuffs. Hope you are able to get it.

  113. Anon @ 4:00:

I just ordered the cascading flower jacket in black. I spoke to someone in special occassions. He said special occassions is handling all of the pre-orders for new arrivals.

I'm not sure if it is worth the price as well..but I am willing to try it out. My rep. said he preferred the look of the black over the ivory.

What size did you get-I read sizing was different for this one?? I ordered ivory--didn't know it came black:)

I have both the carrot and floral lydia and they look beautiful together. I have yet to wear them together as I want to be more positive about keeping the carrot sweater (wearability with other things.) I don't like orange/black because of halloween. I like grey--any shade--with it and brown is okay. PS mentioned trying plum but it has to be just right color.

FFM-have you done carrot dream cardi as a casual set yet?? Need other color ideas--I actually think another print-type blouse would also be awesome-maybe not even J Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  117. FFM
is the maggie tts? tell us!!! do you love the camel color? i am thinking of getting this in camel. is a shrunken fit (kind of like the ecole, in terms of length)? do tell!!

  118. The Cascading Flowers (Roses) Boucle Astrid Jacket does indeed come in Ivory AND Black in sizes 0-14...it is $425 and is now available for pre-sale. The item# is 99457. :) It is indeed beautiful...congratulations to anyone who is able to purchase it! Can't wait to hear your reviews!

    ReplyDelete
  119. thanks ffm, i wasn't doubting you when you said it came in black, i was just saying i was told wrong! :) so other people might have been told wrong as well...
and thank you esp for the item number!

  120. jcrewjunkie:I plan to wear it with cotton tanks and jeans or cords. Since I am breastfeeding and constantly overheated I have to have a cotton layer underneath any sweater that I go near.
I think it would be pretty with the violet suzannah silk cami from last fall

Jen beak: thanks for the review of the bracelet. I want to order it in green! As for the dream open cardigan, it has such a great drape to it. I love the sleeves (think very modern kimono) I am between an xs and an s but got a small in this because it fit better in the shoulder.

  122. has anyone tried on or seen the shimmy dress? If so, I'd love a review. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  123. As for sizing on the Maggie: I ordered a size 4 and it fits nicely. I go between a 4 and 6 in jackets due to having broad shoulders, but I called for measurements before purchasing, and decided on the 4. For those of you who have tried on, or own an Andrea or Lucille Jacket, the sizing seems to be the same on the Maggie. I have tried it on with my Victoria Ruffle L/S Shirt and a Cashmere Shawl Collar Beach Sweater and feel comfortable in the jacket with both items underneath it. I would have needed to size up if I had intended to layer more or wear a thicker sweater underneath it. However, since I live in Florida, that is not necessary. The jacket hits me lower on the hip than the model in the Black one online, but I am only 5'4", and I assume she is at least 5'9 or so. It hits me at mid hip length. The sleeves are perfect when cuffed, and hit about the middle of my hand when they aren't. The Camel color is beautiful...I am very pleased with it, and also intend to wear my Camel Stripe Victoria Blouse underneath it. HTH!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  124. Btw...just in case it wasn't clear...I didn't have the Ruffle Blouse and Cashmere Sweater on at the same time. I tried the jacket on with each item seperately. :)

    ReplyDelete
  125. hdayton: Thank you for the info! :)

FFM: I think that the Camel Maggie with the Camel Stripe Victoria under it sounds fabulous! Congrats on finding yet another awesome jacket (the Andrea in Honey Glaze being your other one...I love it!) :)

    ReplyDelete
  126. One more thing...I would have preferred the jacket to be a little more *fitted* in the waist, but then the shoulders would be too tight if I sized down. If I didn't plan to wear it open the majority of the time, I would probably set the buttons over one inch to make it fit at the waist the way I like it to. :)

    ReplyDelete
  127. Covert5: I am anxious to try the Dream Open Cardi now! Thanks. :) Also, weren't you the one who suggested the Hayden and Harnett purse? I went on their website and really do think that their colors are super beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  128. I LOVE the lea cardigan. It's super flattering. I wore mine yesterday and received compliments all day! I will be buying more once they're on sale - I still can't believe I paid full price for something. :)

Also, the cashmere heirloom henley - I love the style and really like the putty, but would take any color.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cornsilk jewelry - it is just gorgeous in person! I hope they have some still around after markdowns.

Okay, one more, I really like the pembroke dot skirt in ivory. I wish my store had received this so I could have tried it on.

    ReplyDelete
  129. jcrewjunkie-
yes HH is fun and their products are superior quality. I have the Havana Hobo and this is an all time favorite that is made in different colors/leathers every season. I have the Violet Crinkle Patent and it is absolutely GORG! Highly recommend!

    ReplyDelete
  130. I spoke with a very knowlegeable lady in special occasions...we had a very lenghty discussion about the sizing on the casading floral astrid...and since she is female and had tried it on and we discussed body types....the conclusion is the sizing is a little different and maybe like the Mandy boucle like last years...(I have that one) anyway, I am waiting until the measurements for the jacket come out b/c I am not going to take any chances.....She prefered the black and I think I will too:) Able to make it really dressy or dressed down...

    ReplyDelete
  131. Also remember the fabric on the Berry astrid and ruffle astrid is different than the boucle astrid...which is more of a wool sweater knit not a heavy?? right word? stiff wool...just look at the various pictures....I own both the Berry and Ruffle versions....

    ReplyDelete
  132. math teacher, and all who own the Lea cardigan: does it seem short? I love all those colors (seriously, I buy J. Crew just because of this) and it says "hits at hip" in the descriptions but I'm kind of doubtful from looking at the photographs. I'd already written about my love for the long merino cardigans because everyone's perennial favorite, the Jackie, is really short on me. Anyway, just wondering before I lust too much over the colors and buy one only to find out that it's a shrug. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I have to say I am in shock with all the people that have the Heirloom Cashmere Cardigan on their list. I do not get it. That is the last thing I would have thought people would have chosen.whats up with the buttons?I guess this is what makes the world go round:)

    ReplyDelete
  134. audrey, I'm 5'4" and the sweater comes to about 4" below my belly button (sorry, I couldn't think of any other way to describe the length). It is definitely longer on me than the model. :) Also, the pockets aren't as high on my as they are on the model. The sweater looks a little odd on the model, IMO, b/c the pockets are so high.

    ReplyDelete
  135. OT but I was wondering was there anymore Sequined chiffon-ruffle cardigan for sale left @ the B&Ms? I am a small and the size is no longer available online. If it is, what is the price? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  136. which B&M is that? If you don't mind can I have the phone no.?

    ReplyDelete
  137. 1. Victoria cami in navy. As stated on the website, this cami is so versatile. IMO, it's subtly trendy in such a way that it will always be a classic piece for me that has a bit of uniqueness and flair.

    2. Piper tank in seaglass. I fell in love with this print the first time I saw it. I also love the cut of the tank - so comfortable and flattering.

    3. Jackie cardigan (black, white). A must-have staple in my closet. You can put just about anything under it, and the fit is just right.

    4. (Sorry!) Belle skirt in gray. I think I wear these more than I wear pants! They are so slimming and so easy to dress up or down.

    ReplyDelete
  138. has anyone seen the difference (IRL) between the maize and cornsilk shades? they look pretty much the same online. and much nicer than citron-gah!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Cashmere taffeta sash cardigan...love the ruffles and the silk tie:)(I find the dream wool too itchy but love the thought of this in cashmere...I have it in snow but want the black as well)

    Deco tank

  143. does anyone know about the cascading flower jacket? Does the black one have black flowers or another color? I think I would like the black one but I don't know about black flowers! Anyone else have any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Maggie May - I saw the herringbone university pants in the camel sparkle. They are sooo beautiful.

Crew_Girl_In_Canada & Preppy in Philly - I feel that the victoria ruffle tank is true to size. Ditto on the long sleeve version in solid & stripe.

Crew_Girl - I think the golden avocado color is pretty. It's a yellowy green. It definitely will not work well for all skin tones, but it's a unique color. If you can wear it, go for it. I will probably get a merino turtleneck in the golden avocado. My skin has a yellow undertone so works for me.

kitchy7 - The Babette pump is very expensive considering you can find or make a clip feather attachment. I agree -- glue gun.

    My top 3 picks:

    1) Aubrey jacket - which I ordered in golden cypress. I'll blog on it after receiving.

    2) Victoria ruffle cami

    3) cashmere sweater w/the bow (99981)

    ReplyDelete
  145. FFM -
Congrats on your Maggie. Is this the type of blazer that you would leave on as part of your outfit or do you feel it's more heavy looking and acts more like a coat? Would love your opinion. I was all set to order it in ivory and then was distracted by the cascading astrid - which I did preorder in ivory - and now wondering what to do about the Maggie.

    ReplyDelete
  146. crewbie-Any other ideas about what to wear it with? I actually love the shade of orange and the style is really cute BUT before I take off the tag would love more outfit ideas (I love it with floral lydia)--what color, style shirts, tops do you wear it with?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Since people are talking about the cascading flower astrid, I thought I'd mention that I saw a variation of it when I was at the collection store on Sunday. It was the same boucle material but in bright fuschia, and instead of all the flowers down the front it had one silk flower hanging where a right breast pocket would be. I noticed that that flower "hung" instead of sticking up or out straight, but it looks like it is the same exact flowers used on the cascading version. Anyway, it was priced around $225, so there really is a big markup for those extra flowers on the $425 black/ivory versions. I don't know if this pink version will sell b/c the way the flower was hanging down all by itself it looked defective rather than part of the design, and the pink was so blindingly bright I doubt many people will want to wear it.

    ReplyDelete
  148. ss: wool / cashmere suiting. I was eyeing this one as well. It would be great to see it IRL. Seems as if it would be a classic. However, i am concerned about it looking heavy or rustic. It's important how the materials lays. Then i wonder about the color whether or not it is rich black. Finally, i would hope it isn't boxy.

    As for my top items:
1 - Issy jacket - love the style. I hope it's thicker than the merino cardigans.
2 - Italian houndstooth Greta jacket - cute pattern. I've never seen it IRL.
3 - Cascading flowers Astrid - I love flowers and would love to see this jacket in person. I'm curious how the four pockets will look.
4 - Golden Roses Renee Coat - flowers again :)

    ReplyDelete
  149. For me, it would be these:

    1. Victoria Ruffle Cami (esp. the polka dot version)

    2. Pembridge Dot Skirt in gold (so unique for work and evening, and shine is great for the Holidays).

    3. The Cloud Necklace (I don't think I'll purchase it, but it's just so beautiful to look at).

Looking forward to JCrew's winter sales!

  152. ladolcevita: I intend to wear the Maggie as a Blazer...the fabric is called Double Serge on the receipt, so I'm assuming it's the same fabric as the Double Serge Pencil Skirt that has gotten rave reviews on the blog. I tried on the Madeline Double Cloth Coat and Peacoat in my B&M on Sunday, and the Maggie is definitely NOT as heavy as either of them. I really do love it a lot, and know for a fact that it will be my *go to* piece this Fall/Winter.

  153. My 3 favorties are the Victoria Cami in Cerise, the Victoria Shirt in Camel and the Maggie in Camel.

  154. 1) Beaded Bergen shell

    2) Pembridge Dot Pencil Skirt in Ivory

    3) Snow leopard Tartine cardi

btw, does anyone know how much the sequined leopard cardigan is in the collection lookbook? i hope it isn't as much as leopard beaded cardigan from october!!

  155. Is there a picture of the cascading flower boucle jacket that everyone is talking about?

    My current top 3 are:
    1) paintbrush belle skirt
    2) abstract rose dress
    3) simone navy boiled wool jacket

    Ordered:
    1) maggie in ivory
    2) Aubrey in the golden cyress
    3) shimmy dress
    4) Alessia peeptoe in ivory

I also just got a shirt at retail that's not online. It has ruffles around the neckline, snap buttons and pleated ruffles in the front, and swiss dot material (pretty sheer). It comes in ivory and black.

Please review when you get the shoes and the roses coat/jacket. I am anxious to hear. I got the cami in Golden Roses among WAY TOO MANY other new items so I will report back:)

As much as I LOVE the Golden Rose jacket, it looks a little bit "off" to me--like it should have been single-breasted. I find double a bit too full and that can be unflattering. So curious about the fabric, it gives it a somewhat shapeless look--like the giraffe. This is personal opinion of course:) but I think it appears stiff and just hangs. Seems it could be rather overwhelming--anxious to hear.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Regarding the Cascade Astrid, I personally cannot imagine the flowers in any other color than the same as the body of the jacket. It is sophisticated and very elegant. Also, to whomever posted on how the flowers lay, I cannot imagine them sitting tightly formed or anything other than the lovely way they are "cascading" down the jacket. I feel that is the whole appeal and I get the impression the jacket is "lost" on some folks. Sorry to sound so haute--this is just the vibe I am getting with many of the inquiries.

    ReplyDelete
  161. anon@10:32 -- Can you please do a mini-review of the shimmy dress once you receive it? I am interested in that item and would like to hear how it worked out for you.

Today, my most coveted three items are:
1 - lady day coat in poppy
2 - cashmere henley in some color, can't decide which yet
3 - hammered silk tank in bright peacock

    ReplyDelete
  162. ^meant "haughty" but bitchy would suffice as well-sorry:(

    ReplyDelete
  163. covert5: i never noticed the double-breasted buttoning on the rose jacket. I guess i missed them due to the pattern.

I agree with your assessment. It's no longer my number 4, so i'm now legal with 3. :)

    ReplyDelete
  164. So I think that I am going to order the Maggie coat in the red or camel. I have noticed that some of you ladies have purchased it. Can you please do a review of this jacket? Also, can someone please explain the collar to me, it looks like it has two parts in the pictures. Thanks:)

    ReplyDelete
  165. The black has black flowers and the ivory has ivory flowers. I think the black would be lovely! Esp. in the silk....

The appeal of the jacket is not lost on me and once again I feel negativity, Covert5...

There is more than one anonymous here and people are just inquiring...if I was going to spend $425 on a jacket I would want to know more about it too! esp. if I couldn't try it on and would have to pay to return it if I don't have a store nearby...

I was just sharing the info. that I learned. Won't make that mistake again...

    ReplyDelete
  166. Personally, I feel, the cascading flowers jacket is very pretty BUT way over priced...come on! $425for a JCrew jacket...get real! I don't care if the silk is from whereever and the wool is from some so called special mill!

    ReplyDelete
  167. Thanks FFM - I think I'm going to order it this morning - esp now with the free shipping code!
Covert5 : I do this the cascading jacket is lovely as well. I know there was concern about the siting of a single silk flower on a pinkish astrid that I too did see at my b&m and the concern that the flower was just flapping around on the jacket - but the idea with the cascading astrid is soft, flowing flowers acting as a ruffle - Can't wait to see it!

    ReplyDelete
  168. For me it's 1) The elusive golden roses skirt, 2) The victorian ruffle cami/tank in ivory (which would be extremely chic with the skirt mentioned in #1 and 3) the garden bracelet in the silver/grey-ish color.

on another note...the final sale has morphed into the fall sale.... but with the same stuff. oh wait. the sharkskin skirt and some new items. but c'mon. seriously!!!

    ReplyDelete
  169. tammylee - sorry, didn't see your comment.

The vintage slim fit, for someone like me (thin and longer legs than torso but short frame altogether) work to balance any look out. I had these Gap jeans that I liked, but they actually were pretty thin in comparison and I recently got rid of them. With these I can roll the hem of a 32 for a more creative look but also I can leave them down for just your average look. They fit well through the seat, too. The basic colors are nice and simple and if I had the opportunity to try on a pair of their selvedges I probably wouldn't take them off. I recently found them on sale at the Georgetown store and I bought a couple pair and stuck them in my closet for safe keeping.

  170. 1. The small Oslo bag

    2. Victoria Cami in bright fuschia

I really love the JCrew bags, the leather is rich and they get better over time (just as they say). I have four bags now and coveting the small Oslo. Time to put in an order. ;o)
