Open Invite & Request For J.Crew Aficionadas

OPEN INVITE: There are lots of great sites and blogs discussing J.Crew and J.Crew-related topics. I think it would be great to have a blog roll on the side of the main page at J.Crew Aficionada listing those places.

So, if you currently have a site/blog that discusses J.Crew (and/or J.Crew related topics like fashion, clothes, and the like), please feel free to share with us (or send an email to jcrewaficionada@yahoo.com). I will be sure to add it to the blog roll (which will be up in a day or two).

OPEN REQUEST: One of the things I enjoy about this blog is hearing from so many Aficionadas and their different perspectives. If you are interested in guest blogging about a review of a J.Crew item, a visit to a new store, or the like, then please do! Just send me an email at jcrewaficionada@yahoo.com. "Thanks!" in advance! :)

  1. My blog is about fashion, music and the little traveling I do! On another note I have a question about something rather silly. I recently just purchased the Wool-Cashmere Dana Coat and have no idea how they tied the belt like that! If anyone can figure it out please let me know. Its too short to do a slipknot and it doesnt do bows well.

  2. Erin Tiger: I know what you mean about the belt tying! They do such a great job tying it in the non-traditional way. I too would love to know how! :)

  8. Don't have my own blog but would love to post a review suggestion - J Crew Jewelry, especially the pearls. I have been considering them for a long while and would welcome the feedback of the JCA community... Worth it? How well made are they? Do you own some? Etc.

  9. I'd love to be added though I'm not sure how to classify my blog. It is mostly shopping/fashion :)

  13. OT so sorry.... I want to put a J crew coat on my birthday/Christmas list (December birthday...) Can anyone suggest a favorite and why? It is so hard to tell from the website which ones really stand out and with so few in the stores I am having a hard time picking. Of course I love the cashmere Astor in Plum... but I think Santa Might think I was being a bit extravagant!!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  14. Twiga- I haven't tried on al the coats but my fav right now is the Madeline. Because it is slimming, not too full on the bottom and it nips in at the waist. Plus it is comfortable in the shoulders which is hard for me to find.

  15. Thanks Shannon! Has anyone seen this coat in Citron or Berry? I would love to add something a bit more vibrant to my boring coat collection, but am worried these are a bit too bright.
    thanks
    Twiga

  16. anon -- I've seen the Madeline coat in bright berry in the Michigan Ave, Chicago store. It's very bright and very pink. If you want something more orange-y, I recommend the deep persimmon lady day coat, and if you want something in a bright red shade, I highly recommend the Madeline or the lady day coat in the dark poppy color. (I have the Madeline in the dark poppy, and I LOVE it.)

  17. Twiga -- also check this post: http://jcrewaficionada.blogspot.com/2008/10/jcrew-coats-which-one-is-for-you.html

  18. Twiga - I agree w/Shannon. The Madeline is beautiful. I took a photo of the berry. I will try to post it tomorrow. I'll leave a note in one of the threads when I do.

  19. Kathgrace - I know what you mean about the pearls. I was in love with the long strand and started doing a lot of research before making a purchase. I decided against J Crew pearls because of the price compared with other pearl outlets. Comparisons between Department stores (fine jewelry coutner), diamond district and suburban jewelry stores ended up with a purchase from China on Ebay. I paid less than 1/3 of the other choices and the pearls are equal quality. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience and highly recommend trying this option. I have now made two pearl purchases a 100" long strand and an "unusual pearl" strand. They are both lovely and arrived very quickly for cheap shipping.

  20. Erin Tiger and Alexis: making that "knot" on a coat or sweater is actually pretty simple. One side needs to be longer than the other and then you start to make a traditional knot, but you don't pull the long side through all the way. When you pull the long side trough, grab it from the middle and feed it through the loop that way. Don't put the end in first. It's sort of hard to explain in writing, but hopefully you know what I mean! LOL! Good luck. I usually wear all my JC sweater's tied this way.

  21. leslie - Just tried your instructions on my robe and it worked. *lol*

  23. gigiofca: I'm glad it worked for you!! Sometimes, writing directions is so much harder than actually showing someone. Hopefully erin tiger and Alexis will be able to do it also!!

  24. Leslie,

I have always wanted to know how they did that...don't know if I understand your instructions but will try...thanks.

  28. @gigiofca Ah thank you for that necklace review! I saw it on a mannequin at the Rockefeller Center store today and thought it was just a display piece because it wasn't in any of the cases. I'll have to go back and ask about it.

  32. Nice to discover another JCrew-related blog! My fashion blog is JCrewaholics R Us: Resistance is Futile & is of course, all about JCrew. ;-) The blog is a humorous take on fashion, written from the perspective of a fashion designer/consultant.

  33. As hGb has mentioned, Jenna Lyons (as J.Crew creative director) is on Domino November cover. Her home is very clean and simple. Surprisingly not too colorful as J.Crew!

  34. kathgrace-I wouldn't buy the J Crew set for $495 when there are thousands of options out there for beautiful-yes, hand-tied pearls for SO much less $. I am sorry but this is just one area I feel one is wasting their money. J Crew is NO JEWELER--their jewelry has historically been made very cheap and in China. Do what I did-go to the asian owned accessories stores--they have GOBS of GORGEOUS pearls...no different I am sure and you could buy 26 sets for this price! More $ for the product that one really should invest their money in at J Crew--just my 2 cents;)

Cyberpenguin-I have visited your site but find it difficult to meander around. I always come up with the July post as the last one and have a hard time finding things through search etc. I guess navigation is the word I am seeking..any hints? I love what I have read in the past.

  35. ms mindless,
Just read your blog and the quote from Mrs. R. I used to teach first grade for 10 years and I have been laughing all morning here in the U.K.

  36. Cyberpenguin:

I also enjoy your blog, but it appears that it has not been updated since July. I thought that the new Jcrew Aholics blog was replacing it.

I really enjoy your insight and whimsical style.

There is no need to add my link to your site. However, if you choose to- it would be greatly appreciated! :)
