Aficionadas Visits the J.Crew Collection Store :)

A big "thanks!" to Lindsay who shared with us (in this post) the following about the new J.Crew Collection Store in NYC:

"this will be brief bc I am posting from my iPhone. I will comment more later :) The store is very small with light wood floors. There is no sign, just j crew written in cursive on the door. It's a totally different feel than other stores but that's what they were going for. My honest opinion? The clothes were the same. Nothing the rock store doesn't have really. Maybe a few more bags and a lady day coat. The one thing that sold me, THEY HAVE THE RINGSPUN ROSE shirt in all colors/sizes!!!! Forget eBay for $150 call now! They let me use my student discount too. Btw the place was mobbed! Lots of high end shoppers in there. Enjoyed the trip but not worth the drive in for most. They also only had the old catalogue :( I really wanted to see the new one. Basically it was exactly what I expected, a new boutiqey store with the same j crew clothes. -Lindsay "

Thank you so much again Lindsay for a fantastic review! :) (Also, in case anyone was wondering: "rock store" = the regular J.Crew store at Rockefeller Center in NYC.)

"Thanks!" also to Roxy, who visited the store and shared with us a great review and images of the store (image one, two, three, and four):

"The doorman and salespeople were very nice and helpful, the manager when I was there was pretty rude though. I agree with Lindsay that you will totally miss the store if you're not looking for it -- no sign outside yet. It's on the NE corner of 79th & Madison.

I was disappointed with how little stock was in the store. Most of the items were only available in one or two sizes. I wish they carried more of the non-collection clothes as well. The UES is lacking a J. Crew and it would have been nice to buy coordinating items for the collection pieces in one stop rather than having to go to another location to finish an outfit.

The shoe room was amazing. They had almost everything that is currently available. I bought a second pair of Trixie shoes. The cashier was nice enough to give me the 20% for the private sale even though I'd forgotten my coupon. I would go back for the shoes, but the clothing selection is disappointing as of now."

After reading this review, I am still planning to visit it in November (and happy that I don't feel rushed to visit it earlier!) ;)

  1. Thanks for the honest review Lindsay! Great job! While it would be fun to visit if/when I got to NY I don't feel like I am missing too much!

  2. No more rose tees. The SA said they just about flew out of the stores. :( Beautiful, yet tiny store!

  3. Anony@5:31. Thanks I was just going to call and order a rose tee. I am so sad but you saved me an overseas phone call:0

  4. Where are you calling from anon 5:39pm? And what size can you fit? I can call a few stores over here to see if there are any hiding in the stores around me!

  5. I uploaded just a few photos on my flickr account. I was only able to snap a few pictures before the manager cut me off. The doorman and salespeople were very nice and helpful, the manager when I was there was pretty rude though. Side note: wonderful blog, by the way! I am happy to have found this.

  6. Sorry the rose t's are gone! I felt it was fate when they had my size in black. I honestly didn't see anything I hadn't already seen...and they didn't have every collection piece either. No butterfield but they did have one of those $1800 collection coats. I saw the sketchbook belle skirt, glenbrae boots, and that cute tweed short sleeved coat (all seen in person before at other stores). I wouldn't go there if I just wanted basics like a good cashmere section. They only had one or two items out of each thing and these little glass window displays of vintage jewelry. All of the jewelry was beautiful but outrageously expensive. A used locket with someone else's initials should not cost %500. I would rather DY or some other designer but the stuff was still beautiful and complimented the store nicely. One thing that was weird was the cashier. There was nowhere to lay your clothes you had to like hand them over the counter...but there were CANDLES burning all on it!! I was like omg if my rose shirt catches on fire I'll flip haha! If anyone has any questions let me know...I literally live 2 blocks away. I will keep you guys posted on how it looks in the coming months for holiday and sale stuff to see if their layout changes over time. I would recommend stopping by if you are in town but please please don't make a special trip...it's not worth the gas money. I am sure pics of the store will be up soon...I would have taken some but I felt like I would get in trouble! Happy shopping!

  7. roxy: I saw on your flickr account you went to the last yankee game! Are you a season ticket holder? I just got a call saying my seat assignments for next season were on their way! Go Tampa! haha

sorry for the extremely off topicness

  8. Oh yeah... there's a BLACK phone not a red phone...how elite haha

  9. @Lindsay: my boyfriend is a season-ticket holder, yes! I am a die-hard fan as well. He hasn't gotten his seat assignments yet. Go Tampa or Dodgers!

Back on topic, here are some of the things I remember seeing:
    printed calf hair astor jacket
berry trim astor jacket...cashmere bateau sweater...cashmere turtleneck sweater...dream turtleneck sweater...metallic cloqué pencil skirt (out of my size 6, I was bummed)...the globe trotter luggage...the owen hobo.

  10. Roxy- Are the trixie heels on sale? Should I size down for fitting? Thanks for the review!!

  11. I can't believe I missed the rose tees! I wish I'd seen this in time to call. Thanks for the store review, Lindsay.

If anyone sees or calls around and finds a rose tee in XS, any color, please email me at mrsnonia@aol.com. I've been searching!

  12. Roxy: Thank you for the photos! I was really surprised to see how HUGE the earrings and bracelet (I think) are IRL! Congratulations on your second pair of Trixie Heels...which color did you get?

    ReplyDelete
  13. roxy: Thank you so much for the pictures! They are wonderful. My husband thanks you for the pics of the final game at Yankee Stadium!!! LOL. He was so excited that I had to fight to get my laptop back. Congrats on your wonderful luck getting another pair of Trixie heels plus 20% discount even w/o your coupon! What a great day! :)

  14. Roxy- Can you do a mini review on the Trixie heels? I tried to search the blog for reviews but did not see any. I would love to know more about these heels, thanks :-)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hi- I have the Trixie heels in "fog white dot"-- the gray one with the white dots and the pink/gray bow-- and I always get compliments on them. I felt like they fit true to size and you can even size up 1/2 if you have a wider foot, like I did-- also partly because they were the only ones left in the store. I don't usually wear high heels and the 3.5 inches is a bit hard for me for everyday wear; I'm going to end up putting in insoles because I like the extra cushioning and I feel like J. Crew shoes-- especially the flats!-- lack that support. The color is less silver than gray, but the material-- silk-- is really beautiful although it contributes to my concern about these shoes being more than "special occasion" shoes. I'm eyeing the "warm ivory" pair, maybe when they're on sale, or the Juliet midheels in either driftwood or blanched almond.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Audrey, I have the Juliets in Blanched Almond and think they're fabulous - I reach for them more often than any of my other shoes because they are so versatile. I'd love to pick up more colors because I think they are one of the best JC shoe styles I've seen yet.

The Trixies look cute, and I love that bow - it's very similar to a pair of suede Eleanor peep toes I have from a couple years ago. I'd really have to see a pair in person, though - and I worry about the silk-covered heel. The toes certainly do look narrow!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yes, the height and the material of this shoe aren't really encouraging of 8-5 wear. I didn't think the toebox was tight-- perhaps that's because of the 1/2 size-up?-- but there is a bit of cleavage between the big toe and the second. Since I sliced up my favorite pair of leather heels on a gravelly driveway during a wedding, I've learned to put heel tips on my shoes. But I'm really interested in what the other poster got and what she thought of them, too.

I haven't seen the blanched almond in person and don't think I will because I'm abroad. Is it more of a taupe or a gray? (I was going to write cream, taupe, beige, gray-- feel like I'm picking wallpaper colors here that all pretty much mean the sam thing!) I'd really like to pick a crazy color like the buttercup but feel like I'd get more wear out of driftwood or almond... plus, I think the colors look more harmonious with the heel.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hm, just eBayed the Juliet heels and they look taupe... so I guess I answered my own question. silver_lining, are they true to size?

    ReplyDelete
  19. @anonymous 7:02 -- the shoes are not on sale but you can use the privatesaleoct code to get 20% off. I now own the Trixie heels in warm ivory and black (fabulousfloridamommy, I requested your advice on an outfit for the warm ivory pair for your next contribution, hint hint). Audrey's review is well-said.

Here is my Trixie shoes mini-review: I fell in love with the warm ivory Trixie shoes as soon as I saw them in the catalog. By some stroke of luck the 5th Ave store in NYC got a whole bunch by mistake and I was able to try them on in person. I usually find that J. Crew shoes pinch my toes but the Trixie shoes do not. In fact they are pretty comfortable. If you want extra arch support I agree with Audrey's insole recommendation. I tried on both a 9 and a 9 1/2 and found they run true to size (I wear a size 9). The heel is solid and offers good support while walking.

My pair has been worn to work twice and I had no issues wearing them all day, including two 5-block walks to the subway. The bow on the warm ivory pair is closest to bright saffron while the bow on the black pair is a bronze color that I've not seen in any other pieces. The shoe material is matte and can be cleaned. The light material on the warm ivory will absorb dirt. Overall they are very nice shoes sure to draw compliments. I hope this helps. =)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah, they are TTS - I am a wider 9 and found the 9's to be tight on first wear, but after a day of breaking them in they were fine. The 9.5's would've been too long. They're definitely more taupe than grey. I like the driftwood and the peacock ones - too cute! Plus, the wood heel doesn't make them seem overly "patenty".

Roxy, thanks SO much for your Trixie review - we have about the same size feet. I'd love to get my hands on a pair but can't decide on a color! :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Roxy: I saw that you boarded the vintage subway train for the Yankees' last home game. I'm jealous . . . :'( I went to a few games during their last season however. Ah, memories.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Roxy- Have not actually seen the black pair; that part about the bow is interesting because it looks like a light pink / light brown on my screen. I think the warm ivory is actually a different material (it says wool/silk on the website) from the rest; do you notice a difference?

As well, I'm also between 9-9.5. I have the Trixie in 9.5, which I think is ok because I've got the insole too.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm dying to buy a pair of the Trixie heels in the warm ivory pattern, but they're sold out in both potential sizes for me (7.5 or 8)! I'm debating about the black polka dot pair though.

I own the Juliet heels in the iridescent color (it's a champagney color I think) and I love them. I ordered a half size up and they fit well and I find them comfortable. I get a ton of compliments on them!

    ReplyDelete
  24. lynzeeroo, there are a pair of new warm ivory Trixies (8) on eBay with a BIN of $145.00 (item number 190258529303).

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lindsay - Did you see the Duchamp print Astor jacket? I am dying to hear more about this coat.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks, Silver_lining! I see them, but when I click on it, the Buy it Now option disappears!! Strange it would go away with only one bid. I will keep my eye on them though!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I am so jealous of everyone that was able to purchase the Trixie heels. I absolutely love the black and white pair with the yellow bow, but the smallest size they carry is 6, and I wear a 5 or 5 1/2 in their shoes. Why doesn't Jcrew carry more of their shoes (esp. heels) in 5 and 5 1/2. :(
    Curse my small feet!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. lynzeroo - Buy it Now disappears as soon as someone makes a bid or makes a bid that meets the reserve price. If there is no reserve, than the option to Buy it Now does disappear with the first bid.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Danielle - That is so funny, I wish they carried more of their shoes in a size 11.

  30. REPOST--SO MUCH EXCITEMENT I HAD TO SHARE! YOU GALS (& GUYS) ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS NEW CATALOG!! IT HAS SOME AMAZING STUFF-I MEAN IT TOPS ALL THESE EARLY FALL & FALL CATALOGS AS CRAZY EXCITED AS WE ALL GOT ABOUT THAT STUFF:)

Maybe that's partially because I am already so sick of looking at it everyday though, too:) And that just supports the sickness factor as I am J Crew all the time, anytime these days!

ANYWAY--I APOLOGIZE BUT I DO NOT HAVE A SCANNER-I AM SO SORRY TO SHARE AND NOT BE ABLE TO REALLY SHARE THE CATALOG. I WISH I COULD HAVE ORDERED FROM IT TODAY WITH THE 20% OFF-He, He--better yet--I WISH MY STORE HAD MORE OF IT OUT! THEY WERE WORKING TO GET THINGS OUT BUT I REALLY ALMOST FELT LIKE THEY WERE WAITING ON PURPOSE SO PEOPLE WOULD BUY OUT EXISTING STUFF without the coupon and then roll out more next week.

How do I explain--J Crew is like lovers reaquainted for me. I was spurred to LOVE it again with this revamped look (that I feel like some of you are kinda disappointed about) and that is okay--I get that too. It's definitely not as preppy and that was the reason I had left it for several years. But when I got a new catalog this past Spring and saw the fitted cardis with longer tops underneath, matchstick jeans with liza print heels--so much more highly stylized, sexy and yet simple at the same time. Maybe turning 40 and needing to start looking the part even with a casual lifestyle..anyway, I CAUGHT THE BUG (and I DO NOT MEAN-BUG PIN:) So here's the review again with some additions as I have had more time to sit and drool (for those that didn't see it since it was on the crewcuts blog)...

Cover is metallic shoes/flats! Metallic colors are big with them--like the metallic skinny belts if you want to reference right away those are on the web. There are pumps inside in metallics.

I was at my store today--they had these new perfect fit tanks $29.50 (GREAT BEAUTIFUL COLORS!) with the darling chiffon rosettes on the shoulder (think rosette merino cardi) but my PS and I agreed you cannot wear them alone (for very much longer)and they DO NOT work under cardi based on the placement of the flowers. It's a bummer as they are DARN CUTE! They are in the new catalog and would be great for spring but I don't know about winter--they will sell but more for vacations and maybe right away weather as it is still so nice in many places. (I expect they will go on sale/promo...I mean I think they prob made a lot of them!)

There is a new rosette cardi that is SO PRETTY in heather acorn and heather chalk. Only saw in catalog.
Also IN STORE-DID NOT SEE IN CATALOG--some great tees with silk/satin rosettes and bows they are $49.50 and yes, it is a t-shirt. I caved with the 20% for one of them.
With regard to anon comment about fuschia--it is called BRIGHT fuschia for a reason:) It is BRIGHT but very fresh and pretty.
OH AND MARY--I AGREE--THE HOT PINK MATCHSTICKS ARE NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART-I tried them on and I just couldn't do it-they GLOW:)

One of my fav items but it wasn't in the store was a new cardi with turn back cuffs that had two vintage buttons on the cuff and down the front-merino and $78! (Good starting price really.) OMG-this is SO going in my wardrobe! All these great colors!

Also-they are making the cashmere crewneck cardi to look like jackie in a RAINBOW of colors-GORGEOUS!
But I am adding here that I am not sure it is all that different than before-something seems different but they lay out out all the gorgeous colors in the catalog and they do such a GREAT job of enticing:)

Some new colors in peacoat-heather charcoal, dark poppy, navy.

    Big wedding section-very pretty.

There's a long sleeve victoria ruffle shirt with ruffles on front but cuffs TDF--yet--not great colors-kinda plain stripes and couple solids-would have been great in fun colors IMO. But nice for work enviro.

There's a fun pembridge dot pencil skirt in a ivory/gold metallic polka dot and black/gold dot that is fun and great for holidays.

There is a jacket called Maggie double serge--looks VERY cool/cute. Comes in deep yellow, camel, ivory, heather bright berry and black-gotta have it $250. You'll understand when you see it.
They are showing a VERY cool bracelet with it and on the opposite page--really fun! $75-$95 depending on width.

Fun colors in a thicker tie-neck cardi-kind of dream fabric $148

Another cardi with bows around the neckline--very cute! $110

There is a new ruffle neck cami replacement for Eliz or lydia blouse that is GORGEOUS! I mean this is TDF ladies--you will LOVE IT! Comes in great colors $88 and one that is ivory with tiny black polka dots $98

Cashmere sweaters with 2 cute new things going on at the neck.

There is a new coat madeline $330 that is pretty darn cute--for those looking to buy a new coat--you might want to wait--there's a least 3 new ones maybe 4.

VELVET ECOLE in NEW COLORS--they brought out more people! Tawny olive, cobalt blue, dark fossil (charcoal), swt papaya, navy and black.

Some nice dressy heels as always.

    AND THOSE CREWCUTS-UGH-SO DAMN CUTE!:)

I mean this catalog is chalk FULL of goodies:) YOUR GONNA LOVE IT:)
    Did I say that already??
Whomever mentioned that those who like ribbons, bows etc. will like the new catalog--THEY WERE RIGHT AND I AM ONE OF THOSE!

Let me add there is the token weird outfit here or there. The models look much happier and certainly less dreary stage than the past. A few new ones (to me anyway) The whole catalog is just brighter and happier:)
    BTW-
I tried the penny on in store--VERY WEIRD FIT. It hung so ODDLY on me--I am a 2 but 4 made no difference--that will be on sale soon. If you get a chance to try it--you will know what I mean!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Alexis--do I get the longest post ever award and maybe the MOST excited:) J crew really needs to think about sending me something--like maybe the SILK RUFFLE CAMI-hint, hint:)

    ReplyDelete
  32. covert5- how did you get the catalog? do you work for jcrew?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ohh I really want to see the new catalog-any chance it'll be up soon?

  34. Hi all - Can anyone give me reviews for either the houndstooth Gretta or the Stadium Cloth Bridget? I know they are wildly different, but they are the two coats I like best, and can't decide between them. I am going for style only. Warmth is not a huge factor for me. Thanks for any feedback.

  36. I'm thinking for the rare/sold out items we need a different way to post where you can find them. Somehow give regular shoppers a chance before the ebay poachers(who I'm sure read this blog)jump in.

It makes me sad to think that some ebay reseller may have called the collection store right when this was posted and nabbed all the rose t's.

thanks to Lindsay and Covert5 for your great reviews

    ReplyDelete
  37. covert5: I saw those pink pants yesterday, and bright is right! They were almost painful to look at. I can't imagine wearing that color as a pant, and I wear orange, gold, grass green, etc., pants. Maybe as a sweater, maybe. They need to tone the color down a couple of notches. I bet they hit the sale section soon. IMHO

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am so excited about the new catalog! Thanks for posting!!

On another note- went to the website this am and all I get is an error message- anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  39. When will the new catalog be online? I'm DYING! :)

  40. FFM-you just made me purchase the Lame shirt in Shell after seeing your polyvore set-I didn't even know that color existed in the shirt! Good price, too! Thanks

  41. When I was at KOP the other day, they had a number of new items that are not on the website. There was a black pencil skirt with a bow at the waist, the "mystery" tie neck coat in camel that others have mentioned, tees in dark grey with satiny ribbons sown on the front, other tees in champagne with satiny florettes on the front, and tanks with chiffon roses like the merino rose cardi. I have my eye on the black pencil skirt ... it would look fabulous with the ringspun chiffon rose tee! Based on what I saw, I am interested in the new catalog; it could have some really great pieces in it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Covert5:
Thank you so much for a review of upcoming catalogue. You definitely had my interst piqued, I am all pins and needles now, just dying to see it. I wonder if it is a location catalogue or just a reg. one? I do tend to like location catalogues better. Thank you for posting!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Covert, do you work for J.Crew? I called the Rockefeller store yesterday and even they don't have the catalog yet. I work for another large clothing and the only people who would know what our holiday catalogs look like are the people who work in the catalog department. We have already created our 2 holiday catalogs. An early holiday and holiday. The catalogs must go to the printers early so that we can mail them in time to our customers. They usually drop in early November.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My mom bought me 2 of the rose tee's for my birthday, medium in the black and large in the cream. I love them, but would rather pay bills! :( I will be listing them on ebay for a starting bid of $55 (that's what the tag says) today when I open up an ebay account. I've never done this before, so please be patient!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I called the Collection store on Thursday and got the rose tee! My local personal shopper told me weeks ago that this store would have it. My guess is that customers who have good personal shoppers were already advised of this weeks ago and probably called on the store on the day of its opening. When I called the store, the associate who helped me told me I got the last S and that the shirts were flying out and they had only been open for a few hours. So it would seem that the savvy shoppers already know about this shirt being there.

  46. Katie, are you looking to make a huge profit? Will you offer a buy it now price?

What about returning it to a store so that others can buy it. I am really interested in the cream one.

    ReplyDelete
  47. why shouldn't katie list it? she has BILLS to pay.

    ReplyDelete
  48. And the eBay resellers don't have bills to pay?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hi all, I would return it, but I don't really want store credit, but may let my mom do it since she has the receipts. I'm thinking if I can get the auction up and running that may be the alternative. Thanks for the suggestion!

  53. I posted this under a different thread, but it looks like this one is the thread for catalog discussion, so here it is again:

I just received my October 08 catalog today (Saturday), and it's all items (and a lot of pictures) I've already seen. The old "If" section of the website is represented, along with pictures from the outerwear looks on the women's page, the weddings and parties looks on the homepage, and the handbags. Lots of black and white, and lots of items that are already on the FS page (ex: stretch vintage matchstick cords, luxe knit shirts, Lizzie driving mocs) and items that I thought had sold out (ex: floral pins, Italian boucle pencil skirt). And ironically, one page says "Introducing Fiona...fitted, ruffled and ready to wear," which I found funny because it's already on sale and this blog already has a review of it. The suiting section is also the same as last month's. Maybe there's another "new" catalogue coming out???

    ReplyDelete
  54. The catalog is also available to view on the website. Is that the same one you received?

    ReplyDelete
  55. The catalog won't be out until next week. Sounds like jcrew needs to make sure their employees are playing for the right team.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I just checked the catalog online, and it's the same one I received in the mail on Saturday, only mine has a different cover (a model wearing a white felted mini over dark tights, Gianna blouse, and metallic bouclé houndstooth Clea jacket).

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh wow, you got your catalog so late!

Also, to the other anonymous, how do you know that the holiday catalog is coming out next week?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I swear I've gotten this catalog before, too, only with a couple of different covers. :(

Can't wait for the real new one!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am not a Jcrew employee, and I picked up a catalog at my local store yesterday.

I am sure Covert was lucky enough to have a store that either got the catalog and put it out early. I believe the new collection is supposed to be placed in stores tomorrow, so go to your local store and check it out!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Which store did you get the catalog at? If I am close to that one, I want to grab it. Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Plea for a common courtesy:
the one Alexis asked for earlier. People, I honestly do not understand most of you:
Covert5 is super nice to share new and exciting info, and anons comments are swarmed with underlying malice. What's wrong with you, guys? Please, do not come here and post your crappy irritating implications if all you are looking for is undermining others.Geesh, it's getting really annoying.
Same goes in defense of Katie's post, don't be fast to assume she is a looking for a huge profit. It is a hassle to return without receipt and so many Aficionadas expressed desire to purchase the rose tees, she is being super nice to offer it here.

    ReplyDelete
  62. covert5 - Check out JCrew's sale pages. I just saw the skirt you were looking for in the size you were looking for...but there's only 1 available!! Might be worthing seeing if you can grab it...

    ReplyDelete
  63. covert5 -- italian boucle skirt in size 4 on the FS page!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I understand that katie may want to sell it and make a profit, but I would just pay the retail and send her a check. I really want the cream rose tee.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I was able to call the Collection Store this morning (~8AM PST) and get the rose tee in Medium. If you're looking for this size, it might be worth a try to call! (Also, FYI--I called the 1-800 number prior to calling the store directly, and they said the item was completely sold out. I guess their inventory might not be completely up to date?)

    ReplyDelete
  66. All the hullabaloo about the rose ts is pretty ridiculous. First, that people are charging, and willing to pay, $150 for a t-shirt is outrageous!! Second, I remember seeing them in the store when they first came out and even considering buying one, but honestly, I didn't think they were that nice! I didn't like the writing behind the rose, I thought it ruined the appeal of the shirt. Maybe the next rollout will have something much better to covet!

  67. I was online early this morning (5 am Pacific - so not so bad for east coast), and they had all three colors of the rose T is size XS - L. It looked like they only had a few in each size, and they sold out quickly, but might be a good idea the next week or so to look for the tee online early in the morning!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think Katie should do whatever she wants with her tees. Why should she sell them for the lowest price offered to her? Sounds kinda dumb for anyone to do that, since she has bills to pay.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Mack - did you order the tshirt online, or did you have to call a store? Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. anon @ 1:16 am - I already have one in the champagne color so I didn't order this morning, but I was playing around with the inventory (aficionada trick I learned) and it was letting me put over 5 in my shopping cart of various sizes - which means they actually had it. When I checked two hours later, they were no longer available in any size/color... so not sure how people were ordering but the were available online for a short time!

I recognize that Katie has bills to pay and wants to sell her shirts so that she can make some money.

My only thing is why do we allow those kinds of comments about reselling items on eBay, but really admonish eBay resellers?

It would seem that Katie IS an eBay reseller.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Thanks!

  72. I missed out on this tee this morning, too. One minute it was in my shopping cart and the next, it was not.

    ReplyDelete
  73. My mom is going to return the tees and give me money instead. Sorry for all of the trouble. I've bought off ebay before and didn't think it was that big of a deal to resell it. :(

    ReplyDelete
  74. Jessica, what color did you get your tee in? Did they say if they have anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sorry my post about the rose tee's caused such a problem. I just know a ton of aficionada's didn't get a chance to purchase one (like myself) and thought they were long gone. If Katie wants to sell her shirt she should. And let's not get to ahead of ourselves, but I do not think those ebay "poachers" as you say are scouring the blog looking for hot tips on reselling j crew tee shirts. I was just letting people know they are back :)

  77. covert5 - Great catalog review! I love ruffles and bows so I'm sure I'll love this. Glad the models look happy. We don't need to see gloomy models right now.

A couple weeks ago I was in b&m and a couple of SAs were remarking to each other how the holiday catalog had some FS items. So I don't know what happened. Too much stock? Trying to move merch before the catalog release to make numbers for the stockholders? Who knows...

  78. Do you know I missed that DARN skirt AGAIN!! I finally called and asked them to do a we will find it--the gal was so nice to do it (even on sale) BUT I will say I got two emails (almost way too fast to believe they looked) saying they scoured the globe and no luck. I cannot believe what a joke this skirt has been for me--must not be in the cards. I asked her if I could just waitlist the darned thing so I would get it before they even put it on again. What's with the "here's one, oops--not so fast! Here's another one...oops-you missed it! How's that carrot looking for ya there--SORRY--you missed it again!! LOL!

I do think someone else on here sees the posts though and gets it right away--it's just gone that fast. I am not on here at the same time people post about it--I would have to give someone my phone number (don't have blackberry)!

    On that OTHER topic..
OMG people--it cracks me up that you think I work there--you must not follow my constant posts asking for help finding this boucle skirt:) Asking how does this fit, anyone have that...he, he:) I simply asked my PS when I was in the store..end of story.

  79. Oh and I think Katie SHOULD sell her tees on EBay and make a fortune! Pay off your bills that's what I would do! Why would anyone fault her for that!! If there are idiots out there willing to pay $150--then go for it! I don't even care if she is a POWERSELLER pre-selling to make people aware--whats the big deal!
I actually cannot believe the bozos that think this shirt is THAT important to their lives. I would personally LOVE to have it but give me a break--it's a T-shirt!!

  84. hello- I am an associate and have info on the new catalog. It is not a location catalog. We have it in store, but it is still in boxes in back and we are not allowed to display it yet. I think we are going to put it out on Wednesday, which is when our rollout is coming.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yeah Katie, I agree with covert5- go ahead and list it. It's not like no one wants it. You deserve to make some money off of this!

Everything that is coveted in life has a price and a silly tee is no different.

    You go girl!

  86. Does anyone know the deal with the secret sale for the cashmere? I am very interested in getting a turtleneck or two and had heard of the secret sale but didn't know if it ever included the turtlenecks. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Katie, I agree, sell the shirts. There is demand, you have supply - it's the smart thing to do. It would be so sad for you to have to ask your mom to take them both back to the store after she bought them for you! Personally, I think you should sell one for $100 and keep the other. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  88. I can understand owning two of a favorite item...maybe even 3 at most...but come on...4 or 5 or 6 or even 7 of the same item in different colors??? That is just plain crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Lindsay - I haven't seen cashmere t-necks on sale yet.

In agreement about the rose chiffon tee. Put it u on eBay and sell it. I'd start it at the regular price and see what the final auction is. Apparently Thurs and Suns are the best days to *end* auctions, fyi.

I own 4 silky pleated tanks plus at least 3 of the chiffon ones from spring/summer which is almost the same cut. Crazy, crazy, crazy...that's me!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I own several pair of the favorite fit chinos - and would buy more if they'd come out with colors I don't have. In fact, I would like the dark slate, even though I have the gray.

Then we should not be so condescending toward eBay resellers as Katie will be one of them.

That is the only point I am trying to get across.

eBay resellers know the demand and they have the supply.

  94. I have 3 questions as I'm new to this blog and am trying to catch up with all of you regulars.

    1) Is this a blog more for fans only and are employees not really welcome? It seems people are suspicious of some bloggers being covert employees.

    2) Are ebayers the enemy? If so, why?

I'm honestly neither but I'm trying to understand - could someone please fill me in?

    3) Lastly, What does TTS and B&M stand for?

Sorry for my ignorance, just trying to figure it all out. I'm a true fan and would like to contribute. Thanks so much for this blog, Alexis.

  95. 1) Is this a blog more for fans only and are employees not really welcome? It seems people are suspicious of some bloggers being covert employees.

Anyone can post to this blog. Sometimes, we are suspicious of their intentions.

    2) Are ebayers the enemy? If so, why?

We are frugal women who want sales so we get upset when people resell the goods we were not able to get on eBay.

    3) Lastly, What does TTS and B&M stand for?

    TTS = true to size
B&M = brick and mortar store, an actual store

    Hope that helps you!

  96. gigiofca: thanks! i guess i should have picked one up today with the private sale coupon...oh well!

i made a purchase from the fab black phone at the new madison store today and they answered with "hello this is j crew's priority line" how crazy! i bought the sketchbook roses belle and the denim pencil high waist skirt...i hope they fit! :)

also, the items i have multiples of are the dream tie cardigans (probably the only cardis that fit me well bc of my larger bust) and the favorite fit chinos. i'm wishing right now i had multiple cashmere turtlenecks. I tried them on for the first time today and they are SO flattering...they aren't shrunken and they are a little bit longer which i love!

  97. Unfortunately, last I saw of katie she posted and went "running off with her tail between her legs" and said forget it! She was having her mom return them. I think that sucks! (That was not meant to be derogatory towards her) she came on not really knowing how to post on Ebay yet but I think she's scared someone will set up a sniper outside her home now. People are so envious they get creepy and very un becoming.

    ReplyDelete

  99. OT and on to shopping--sorry if I totally missed this one--are the juliet heels comfortable and fit true to size?

I know some people have made mention J Crew doesn't MAKE comfy shoes:)

    BTW-
SELLING BNWT Seaglass Piper sz 4 and Cashmere Argyle Vest in Grey/Honey/White (great with annette gold polka dot blouse or any white button down) in size small. Both great pieces-too big! Send me your email address if interested and I will send pics if need.

  100. lindsay - We kind of enable here, so I'll point out that the coupon is good through tomorrow, Mon. The good thing about the cashmere is that you can return them if you change your mind as they are not FS. Of course you could wait to see if they later go on promo or sale. If I was going to wear them right now, I might get them. If I knew I couldn't wait them for a awhile, I might wait -- depending on my budget. That's my $0.02 :-)

Lisigirl - Welcome :-) Employees are definitely welcome. Many of the employees are also fans and I ADORE it when they post. I really love it. They choose to post under Anonymous, which is often abbreviated with anon.

I don't think eBayers are enemies. It's just tough to see someone listing a coveted & sold out item at double or triple the original price. I can see if an auction begins at original cost and I choose to bid waaay beyond the that. My choice. But it's unfair if they are purchasing 3 or 4 t-shirts in b&m or online and we don't even get a shot. I've also wondered if some of them have a connection to getting items on the cheap in some way and then resell at a huge profit. Personally, I choose not to gripe about it and just stay away from those auctions. There are some good fair eBay sellers who specialize in J Crew or have a lot of the merch in their eBay store, so lots of opportunities for good stuff without feeling like someone is trying to take advantage.

covert5 - I hope Katie just chose to stay away from the fray and is enjoying her Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Covert5 - I find the Juliet heels to run a little small and narrow, so I went up a half a size and they're perfect. The heel isn't too high so I think that helps with the comfort level and I haven't gotten any blisters from them yet!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Can anyone give me their thoughts on how the velvet ecole jackets fit across the shoulders? TTS or more narrow? I want to give one as a gift, but I don't know whether to size up or not (I know how they fit me, but I have very broad shoulders, so that doesn't help). Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Are we possibly getting two different classes of resellers confused? Sure, if a professional seller buys the entire stock of an item and then jacks up the price, that's lame. But if a person has one or two items that they can't/won't return for some reason, and they sell them to someone else who wants them, how is that a problem?

From what I understand, Katie has TWO SHIRTS. She hasn't exactly cornered the worldwide market. And she has a great reason for not wanting to return them. And maybe she wants to make a few dollars for her trouble - who wouldn't? Some of you are making her sound like a monster!

I might also point out that if you actually want a shirt, you stand very little chance of getting one of the ones that Katie returns. Would you rather buy a $70 shirt, or fail to buy a $50 shirt? Different people will have different answers, but I believe Katie was trying to do everyone a favor by making us aware of the availability of her shirts, even if she did stand to profit from it.

(Btw, I have never bought or sold anything on eBay - this is just an observation!)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Kitchy7 - Employee here. I have found the velvet Ecole to run TTS on the shoulders of my clients. it is in the torso area that it runs a little more generous. I would purchase the persons regular size, but the fit issues will probably be be in the area from the bust to the waist if there are any problems.

Our store has not received their catalogs yet either and I am as excited to see the new merchandise as you all are.

Lindsay - Sell your rose tees on Ebay. If you start the listing at $55 (store value) it is not your fault what people bid the item up too. Good luck.

  105. anon 4:53 and gigiofca - Thanks for your help and clarification.

Another question for aficionadas: I have a new store opening near me at the end of October - Finally!! Do you guys know if new stores tend to get items that other stores are sold out of (a la Collection store having the rose tee?). Hate to open this can of worms again but I wondered if your guys knew if that was J. Crew practices? Thanks again.

  106. anon (employee) @ 5:42: Which one of the Ecoles is selling the best? What top are you pairing it up with? I always like to get an employee's perspective. THANKS!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. jcrewjunkie - Believe it or not, the honey glaze ecole is selling best in our store. It looks great with the dark slate hammered silk tank. It also looks nice with the Cambridge cable in honey glaze. The different textures make the same color look OK instead of trying too hard. I was really surprised we were not selling more of the blue, it is my favorite color and would be fantastic and luxurious dressed up for the holidays. That would look wonderful with the Nantucket fog sil tank the new trible strand bow necklace and beautifully cut black wool pants.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Thank you anon @ 5:42! I have a couple of friends who are in love with my burgundy velvet ecole, so it immediately came to mind when I was gift shopping for them. I also snagged a lot of sale tees & used my 20% coupon + sale was 20% making it a deal I could not pass up. I also purchased the Lydia blouse in pink for only $36 with all discounts:) Only the pink and orange were on sales at my B&M.

Also, not crazy to have duplicates of the same item! Many of us have the Jackie in 5 colors at a minimum :)

  122. I feel bad for her too, Argyle. Talk about harrassing someone that badly by shoving our opinions on her as to what to do. And that one lady that was so seemingly angry with Katie because she didn't want to sell directly to her at retail price, rather list it for a small profit. Shame on that lady!!!

And we wonder why some have mental breakdowns! Poor girl was just trying to pay some bills. Stay strong, Katie!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Watch out diane, most people on this blog will blacklist you if you try to make $1 over what they would pay retail for!

  130. Still no word on posting the new catolg?

    ReplyDelete
  131. Lisigirl - I think the items stores get are influenced by what they expect to sell. I'm not really answering your query. I don't know if your new store will get items that other stores are sold out of. However, there are just some things your store may not get if it isn't a 'luxury' store or whatever they call it. For example - I was told the store in Pleasanton, CA doesn't carry cashmere, but the one in Walnut Creek, CA (about 20 mi away) does because they are a luxury store. Your new store may offer $25 off of your 1st purchase, but I don't know how you find out about that coupon. Perhaps you should sign up with your local shopping center or plaza where they are building it. And someone might post the email here.

Anonymous @ 8:10p - It is luck of the draw whether the CS will give you free shipping. If they are FS items, they may not. If they are regular priced items and you're getting 20% off because of $175 total or more, they might do it - -esp if it is items that your store is simply out of stock in. Good luck. :-)

  132. I remember when my old J.Crew used to have a wall of shoes like the shoe room at the collection store! It was a few years ago though - did they decide to do away with that at all stores?

  133. Gigiofca is correct. Stores receive merchadise based on their "rank". Not quite the right word, but gives an accurate description of what I am trying to convey. Biggest store with newest merchandise first is Paramus Garden State Plaza.

    ReplyDelete
  134. anon at 8:35: you're correct about the Garden State store, I was in there this weekend and they had new itmes but I didn't have much time to look. They are actually expanding the store to make room for crewcuts. The stores at Tice's Corner and at Riverside Square aren't as big nor do they carry shoes.

Opps that was a Cloud necklace that is so cute in the catalog- hand knotted glass beads with ribbon ties- very neutral color (taupe) and a similar look to the waterfall necklace, it is kind of hard to see in the catalog as they have it shown with 2 sets of pearls? Looks very fun. (I am suprised the model can still hold her head up with 3 j crew necklaces on!)

  146. beachbum: I have Whisper lamé Zoey tank in soft graphite (item 93551), which is similar to Whisper lamé slim shirt/tank. It is not super shiny nor glittering. But if you worry, you might want to chose "shell" or "silver" instead of "dark gold". HTH!

  147. loveinlife - I don't know about sizing in the Purcells, but I know the Converse I've owned have been TTS. I'd Google it for more info on where to purchase.

beachbum - I love my gold whisper lame tank. They're not shiny as foil, let's say. I'd say it's more subtle, which is why they use the word whisper, I guess. I can't really see wearing it to work or anything, though, unless you're a creative. It's a nice piece to wear for the evening. Although I haven't seen the silver -- only the gold. Good luck w/your decision.

  149. beachbum- I have the whisper lame Zoey tank in the whitish color (forgot what it was called), and it's very subtle, like a glittering silvery cream. It's lined in a cream cotton. It's one of the surprise hits-- I would never have bought it, or looked at it, online, but loved it in the store. It fits loose; I went down a size because it was the last one left, but you should be careful because this might mean that it'll be shorter. (It hits at the hip.)

    ReplyDelete
  150. I have the lame shirt in shell. The shine is subtle and very pretty, but the shirt is not lined (unlike the tank), so it's very sheer. Even with a nude bra everything shows through. Definitely need a tank or cami underneath.
