"Thanks!" to Jillian who shared with us the following: "I just wanted to let you know (so you can pass on the word) that today I received a rewards gift coupon to use in crew as long as I use my Crew card (so it does come in handy after all)..."
I am *not* sure if this is the normal rewards card being sent or a special "holiday rewards" for credit card holders. If this is the latter, then I think it is wonderful to see these kind of gifts being sent out to card members. It makes getting a credit card from J.Crew more enticing. Although I will still "pass" on getting their credit card for now. ;)
Follow-Up Note: Consensus seems to be that this is the normal rewards card. I apologize for any confusion (or getting anyone's hopes up). Since I am not a card member, I did not know if this was something extra. For all those who clarified this point- I thank you! :) On a bright note, it does mean that credit card members will be receiving their rewards card soon. :)
Alexis: I'm confused. Are you saying that besides the normal reward card that comes from using your charge every quarter that JC sent out a little something extra as well?
ReplyDeleteHi Ladolcevita: Unfortunately, I don't know what normal rewards cards look like- so I can't say for certain that this is just the normal reward card. But it sounds like this is something extra. :)
ReplyDeleteyes I'm confused about the controversy. That looks like the standard 25 reward card for spending 500 in the past months. Is it something different I can be hopefully looking for? Especially since they have screwed up three orders in the past week alone!
ReplyDeleteI am totally confused, because I thought the rewards card that I received yesterday WAS my normal rewards card! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI think that's lovely that J Crew sent out a little gift to the card members. I don't have a card and didn't get one, but that's OK. In fact, I think that is one of the neat things about J Crew, besides the clothes. You never know what nice things they might do for you! I most often go to the Orland Park, Ill., store, and a wonderful guy named Brent worked there and always helped me. He's gone now -- relocated to another state, I heard -- but he was so nice, would call me about sales and sometimes offered me an extra percentage off a sales price. For all I know, he did this kind of thing for lots of customers, but the nicest part was it always seemed like it was being done extra specially for me! You gotta love that kind of treatment. Thanks, J Crew -- and Brent, you were the greatest. Stewart
ReplyDeleteThat definately looks like the standard. Which is why it must be used with the card and looks like it has an expiration date. Alexis do you know if it came with a lookbook? That would definately settle the question.
ReplyDeleteI do think it's just the regular rewards card that we normally get - $25 for every $500 charged. But it's still great - and I love the presentation. I think it's commendable on J Crew's part that the presentation is well thought out. Have a late meeting tonight, but can't wait to get home because my package with my Maggie is on my door step!!! Will review it later tonight - I hope!
ReplyDeleteIt's the standard spend $500 get $25. No need to get excited and start up the rumor mill...
ReplyDeleteEveryone: I apologize for any confusion (or getting anyone's hopes up). :) Since I am not a card member, I did not know if this was something extra. For all those who clarified this point- I thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteLaDolceVita: Congrats on the maggie!!! :)
I got my rewards card today as well. Woohoo! No lookbook, though. What's everybody getting with theirs?
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am the person who first alerted alexis. It may be the standard rewards card for other people, but for me it was extra, because I had already received my rewards card a week and a half ago. I wonder if anyone else is getting an extra one, and no it did not come with a look-book.
Jillian
kitchy7 and I both got our rewards cards in the mail today. These are definitely the rewards cards for previous purchases, not holiday gifts. They did not come with a look book and they have an expiration date of December 15.
ReplyDeleteObviously, I'm excited that they (finally!) arrived. But I'm irritated at J.Crew for telling me for the past 3 weeks that they were being mailed that week and that they could be used for phone/store orders before they arrived.
And, um, what's with the "We love gifts at the holidays... (here's one for you)" on the card? Since this isn't really a gift but the rewards I earned by shopping with my J.Crew card (and the main reason I signed up for it), I wish they didn't portray it as such. I'm not expecting a gift out of the blue, so that's fine. But I would like to see their attitide more as "Thank you for being a loyal cardholder" than "Here's our gift to you because we're nice." I know they didn't say it in those words, but it kind of came out that way.
Nevertheless, it goes without saying that my rewards will be put to good use! I've been waiting (quite a long time) for them and will use them well before December 15.
jillian was the wording the same for both? How do you know the earlier one was rewards? Seems to me that one was the extra one. Consensus is that rewards cards were definatley not out a week and a half ago
ReplyDeleteMaybe the one the other week was the extra one it was a gree card with a pin number in the back.
ReplyDeleteMine is white and did not come with a Look Book. I think it is my regular rewards card. I don't even remember what my other ones looked like I spent them so quickly! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteOK, let me correct myself. The card is silver not white. Time to get myself some glasses.
ReplyDeleteGosh, if you all are spending quite a lot for Jcrew merchandise, shouldn't you all get like more?? A birthday (rewards) card for your birthday?
ReplyDeleteI get one (the Birthday one) from Banana Republic anually on my birthday month -its usually about $15.
I have a jcrew card. I see no benefits whatsoever. Probably why I don't use it. I use my American Express on Jcrew and I get 2 (free) round trip airfare to wherever I want to go. Most likely to New York to check out the Jcrew Collection store and other things! I loove NY!!
Totally off topic, but I was watching CNN this morning and they showed a clip from the Tonight Show with Jay Leno interviewing Michelle Obama. (I'm not a fan of Leno at all. I don't find him funny. I'm not completely wild about Michelle Obama either, but for a really stupid reason. Some of her manerisms remind me of of someone I used to know that I ended up not liking. She's growing on me though.) Leno was making some joke about expensive clothes (because of the Palin thing), and Michelle Obama said she was wearing a "J.Crew ensemble." It was a yellow outfit.
ReplyDeleteThe silver card stock that states "We love gifts at the holidays..." on the front
ReplyDeleteHas a silver card that states" holiday rewards exclusively for J. Crew cardmembers"
Though the holiday messaging is deceiving, this is our rewards card.
Jillian, what other card did you receive previously?
anon @ 5:57 - I agree that J.Crew should give birthday presents. At least some small thing like a 10% discount (not that we in this blog need it, but it's the thought that counts). In fact, my birthday is coming up and I was actually going to ask J.Crew if they might consider providing a small present... Most stores and restaurants that I subscribe to by email do send me something for my birthday. It would be very nice if J.Crew did something small like that at least for cardholders.
ReplyDeleteI just confirmed--this is 100% our rewards card. I used mine today and just got on the phone to confirm that it indeed was THE rewards card.
ReplyDeleteI Love J Crew dearly--obviously--because I still shop there WAY TOO much esp. among the chaos. But I have to agree that this card came inside a card that insinuates it is a "gift" and not really something I earned. I wondered this myself and was kind of excited thinking maybe this was something they sent for my loyalty:) I spent it today not really knowing for sure what it was.
I do have to say the way they presented it irritates me...I honestly ONLY have a card with them for this ONE reason (rewards) as the rest of the benefits they claim to be so special--are just not special at all.
BTW-You would have thought mine was on fire it was in my hand and then back in theirs so fast:0)
Mekiki - You poor thing, you have no idea what you might have started! Just kidding! I appreciate your info on the Michelle Obama piece. That very same information has created one of the nastiest posts ever on the extra discount posting from earlier. Have a look! Very sad, let us hope it does not start on this post too!
ReplyDelete3PP - I think they call it a gift because they do not have to give us anything for using the charge. I agree, the benefits are not the best. However, some cards don't have any benefits. Maybe J. Crew looks at this bene as a gift to their customers.
Covert5: your comment of "you would have thought mine was on fire it was in my hand and then back in theirs so fast" made me laugh... because I would have done the same!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that the packaging of this card was a bit deceiving! For a nanosecond I thought it was a "gift" too, until I realized it was for $50 and there was no way in hell that JC was "giving" me $50!! LOL! As my DH consistently tells me...I'm a "marketer's dream!". He finds it humorous that I get $50 for spending $1000, and then I use the $50 to buy more. What a racket!! Especially since I have NEVER received the other "benefits" of cardmembership, such as advance notices, early catalogs, etc. and I have been a cardmember for over 4 years!
ReplyDeleteLeslie - That is exactly what my husband says about me! I remember that the rewards card was phrased this way last year too and my husband laughed so hard about my "gift." That is why I think we have to at least think of it as something they do not have to do. My dream card bene is double points like Talbots often does. Talbots is doing it until the end of the year now, but usually it is Spring, Septemberr and December. I do, sadly, spend more when it is double points.
ReplyDeletejenn_brak - You're right, J.Crew doesn't have to give us anything and of course we would still shop there. I shopped there for years before signing up to be a cardholder. But it's like someone said - why sign up for a card that doesn't give any rewards? We could just use any old Visa/MC, or just our bank card or cash. Or, we could use a card that earns us miles. In these challenging economic times, a lot of retailers are bending over backwards to get customers to spend money. I get a lot of "Thank you for shopping" messages and cardholder-only sales from other stores. It does sound more grateful to say that than to say "If you only knew" or "Here's our holiday gift to you (that you earned)." I actually do have store cards from other retailers and I must say that I receive oodles of coupons as well as rewards from those stores. And I spend far less money there.
ReplyDeleteYes, the J.Crew rewards are their one main (and really, only) benefit. We all know that just being on the email list - or better yet, reading this blog - will give you all the coupons you need. And many of us have mentioned that we are the last to receive emails and catalogs, even the cardholders among us. Short of the few items I take in for free hemming (full priced items only), I could probably earn greater monetary rewards by using another card.
Like I said, I'm thrilled to receive my rewards cards, but they are a reward for my shopping (which I might add came months after I earned them), not a gift per se. I just would like to see more actual cardholder benefits, that's all.
Quick questions about 2 sweaters: Does anyone have the lofty cashmere shawl-collar sweater (the pullover style)? Is it worth it? How does it fit?
ReplyDeleteAlso, does anyone have last season's shrunken shawl-collar cardigan that's on sale? How does that fit? The last time I tried it on in the store was last winter and I remember it being VERY tiny. Do you recommend going up 1-2 sizes? How about this season's lofty cashmere shawl-collar sweater?
Thanks in advance!
Rockaway Townquare in NJ had 40% off women's and 30% off men's today on the final sale, but I think that extra discount that was posted yesterday is not valid today--nothing was posted about it.
ReplyDeleteHappy shopping, rewards receivers!
3 penny princess,
ReplyDeleteYou are really a bit full of yourself!
Thanks Jenn Brack. I just read that mess (the M. Obama/J.Crew post). I kind of thought that someone would have posted about the outfit, but, obviously, I didn't read through the other posts.
ReplyDeleteI guess it was probably even worse (in tone), but it looks as if some of the posters deleted some of their comments.
I don't know how I feel about the outfit, I didn't even get that far mentally. I (like the poster of the original post) just thought it was cool that she was wearing a J.Crew outfit.
Way off topic but here goes anyway. Does anyone has the tissue turtleneck? I ordered one last year and the neck was so loose is just flopped down and looked silly. Should I go a size down? If I'm going to wear a turtleneck I'd like it to stay up around my neck.
ReplyDeleteNo rewards card for me, but I did receive the new catalog today. I plan to really look through it. Is it just me or do others find the colours more true in the catalog compared to the website. I have a new monitor with my pc, but the colours always look more accurate in the catalog.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like someone bought a LOT of yellow Maggies and put them on ebay.
ReplyDeleteJcrew guy in canada: i would have to agree with you about the colors in the catalog versus the web site -- and it doesn't matter which monitor i use.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for the catalog.
One thing i did notice was that the image in which there is no model and in which there are no sharp contrast of colors, e.g. black pants on white background, appear closer to the correct color. Maybe it's the lighting. Do you find that to be the case as well?
Crewcrazy-
ReplyDeleteI would recommend sizing down in the tissue t-necks. Last year I wore a size S and this season I needed to downsize to an XS. HTH.
I got my rewards card in the mail today. It looks like the picture you put up! :)
ReplyDeleteI received my rewards card today too, for the first time. I guess what bothers me a little is the fact that the card expires!
ReplyDeleteI knew that when I opened the card, I wouldn't exactly be given rewards galore...but I guess I expected a "gift card" rather than a "rewards card", something I can give away, use without my j.crew credit card, or use whenever I want, at my own discretion.
To 3-Penny Princess;
ReplyDeleteI have last season's shrunken shawl-collar cashmere cardigan ( mine is in fresh clover) and I found it fit TTS. It is on a smaller side and form fitting, but not tiny. I got S ( vs XS that fits me better this year)and like it on me. It has a look and feel of a cropped cardigan. As a matter of fact I wore mine on weekend; it's nicely thick and plush, but pills a lot. I am pretty sure Jenna Lyons wears the same cardigan in orange on the cover of Domino magazine.
To all:
ReplyDeletegot my quarterly rewards card today and it looks just like the one pictured, the amount is different though.:)
slastena - thanks so much for the detailed description of the cashmere shawl-collared cardi! This is really helpful. It's been on sale for a while and I've also been seeing a lot of them on ebay. But I just wasn't sure about it. I think I might get it now!
ReplyDeleteThe tissue turtleneck fitted true to size for me. The neck seems a little tighter.
ReplyDeleteDont forget that the rewards cards expire on December 15th!
ReplyDeletehmm...I'm sad about the Friendship Heights store no longer offering the 20% off $100 or more. Does anyone know if they're still offering 30% off sale items?
ReplyDeleteI too received my "gift" from J.Crew. I was so excited but skeptical, and after reading your posts I realized that it's just my usual rewards card. My birthday is on Saturday, and I was really hoping for a little treat as well!
J crew guy (and others with regard to colors):
ReplyDeleteI posted about this but no one really responded before. I was dying to know what others thought about this topic. I know monitors are different and color is hard to describe in writing. I have now researched it for a few items and have come to realize that color is NOT accurate in the catalog (on model) or on the model on the website. What IS accurate is the little block you click to see the item alone (not on model) or the tiny block in the catalog that shows colors avail. Please, if anyone disagrees, tell me what you think/why. It sure would make ordering easier.
I have now checked this with things in my possession-the yellow Maggie, the yellow Deco Tank, the Fuchsia Victoria, the heather Acorn Chiffon Florette Cardi, the Crystal Garden Bracelets. It must be tough to get accurate colors in a photograph.
In terms of ordering, I ordered the Maggie with my fingers crossed hoping it was not as citrus (not as flattering-harder to wear) as it pictured on model in catalog but that it was more golden like the tiny square of color that is shown with it. When it arrived-it was much to my excitement--the golden shade of yellow (now only if it fit:(
The stack of crystal garden bracelets on pg 52 of November-these are not completely accurate. The top one in fuchsia (don't be confused by the name it is not pink but coral) it is not as dark as that picture and neither is the citrus.
The Heather Acorn cardi is darker IRL than, in this case, the catalog pic and the little square. Ugh-who knows?? :)
I got my card yesterday too however it's only for 50.00 and this photo says 75! I spend so much money there that I'm a little annoyed that I didn't get the larger amount. How do you know what level you are at to get more? I am also a platinum card member.
ReplyDeleteany thoughts?
It's $25 per $500, so I guess that other person outspent you by 5 bills...
ReplyDeletecovert5 - J Crew colors deserve an entire post. I really think they need to have a bigger swatch of the color is that is the most accurate. And they should also have a swatch in stores if they are not going to carry the item in all colors, i.e. the coats.
ReplyDeleteah... i get i now... damn, i thought 5 c-notes was alot but i guess not ;) thanks for help. i LOVE this site....
