How beautiful are the Trixie heels from J.Crew? I normally don't wear heels, let alone 3 1/2" heels, but I can see myself making an exception for these! ;)

Luckily for us, two members of the blog shared with us their review of the Trixie heels. :)

Audrey (in this post) shared the following review:

"...I have the Trixie heels in "fog white dot"-- the gray one with the white dots and the pink/gray bow-- and I always get compliments on them. I felt like they fit true to size and you can even size up 1/2 if you have a wider foot, like I did-- also partly because they were the only ones left in the store. I don't usually wear high heels and the 3.5 inches is a bit hard for me for everyday wear; I'm going to end up putting in insoles because I like the extra cushioning and I feel like J.Crew shoes-- especially the flats!-- lack that support. The color is less silver than gray, but the material-- silk-- is really beautiful although it contributes to my concern about these shoes being more than "special occasion" shoes. I'm eyeing the "warm ivory" pair, maybe when they're on sale, or the Juliet midheels in either driftwood or blanched almond.

...Yes, the height and the material of this shoe aren't really encouraging of 8-5 wear. I didn't think the toebox was tight-- perhaps that's because of the 1/2 size-up?-- but there is a bit of cleavage between the big toe and the second. Since I sliced up my favorite pair of leather heels on a gravelly driveway during a wedding, I've learned to put heel tips on my shoes.
"

Roxy (in the same post) shared the following review:

"I now own the Trixie heels in warm ivory and black ... Audrey's review is well-said.

Here is my Trixie shoes mini-review: I fell in love with the warm ivory Trixie shoes as soon as I saw them in the catalog. By some stroke of luck the 5th Ave store in NYC got a whole bunch by mistake and I was able to try them on in person. I usually find that J. Crew shoes pinch my toes but the Trixie shoes do not. In fact they are pretty comfortable. If you want extra arch support I agree with Audrey's insole recommendation. I tried on both a 9 and a 9 1/2 and found they run true to size (I wear a size 9). The heel is solid and offers good support while walking.

My pair has been worn to work twice and I had no issues wearing them all day, including two 5-block walks to the subway. The bow on the warm ivory pair is closest to bright saffron while the bow on the black pair is a bronze color that I've not seen in any other pieces. The shoe material is matte and can be cleaned. The light material on the warm ivory will absorb dirt. Overall they are very nice shoes sure to draw compliments. I hope this helps. =) "

"Thanks!" to both Audrey and Roxy for sharing their great reviews with us! :)

What are your thoughts of the Trixie Heels (do you like/dislike the style, design, height)? Are you considering or already have purchased these shoes?

  1. I love the look of the Trixie heels - especially in warm ivory. I can't justify the price right now, but I am envious! :)

    Thanks for the review!

  2. I like the look of the shoes too but they're out of my price range. The most I've ever spent on shoes is $150 (Cole Haan Air on sale) and I thought that was a lot!

I also wish the heels weren't so high.

OT, I just ordered the Frankie Bag for a little over $100. It's marked down to $129.99 - I called CS, spoke to a really nice CSR and was able to get 20% off and free shipping. Even though the bag is unlined, I couldn't pass up the bargain. Plus I like the light pinkish color.

  3. I love these trixie heels and the reviews are great! I'd love to order a pair in the warm ivory...but I balk at paying $250 for shoes with "man made" lining and soles

  4. Lovely shoes indeed! Thank you both for the reviews. After wearing flats my entire life (despite being 5'2), I'm finally starting to rotate in some heels. If these make it to the sale section, I might pick up a pair. However, since I have so few pairs of high heels, I tend to stick to solid colors, since I suspect I'd get more use out of them. *grins* And heels are scary enough for me without an attention-grabbing (but beautiful!) print on top.

  5. Great reviews.

I guess I'm supposed to drive w/your mocs on and then put the heels on, get chauffered or take a cab, but someone would step on my shoes anyway. Fabric shoes don't work for me, but I love them in in the black/ivory.

  6. Ooooh, pretty shoes. *makes grabby hands*

  7. i just love these heels! i wear heels most of the time and love the bow and the satin material. also, the chunkier heel is a nice change. i'll cough up the cash when they go on sale...hopefully they won't all be snatched up by then. ;)

  8. Love the shoes...they are adorable. Might pick up a pair with my rewards card....anybody have an idea when they will be coming out?

  9. Thanks for the FAB reviews Audrey and Roxy!

I absolutely love the look of the Trixie Heels, and hope to also get a pair when the price comes down. :)

  10. Soooo cute! Sometimes J Crew's current shoe styles will pop up on Ebay. I got the Lulu flats from there.

OT: I got the Juliet heels yesterday. I know a couple of people mentioned they were running small. I found them to be true to size.

  11. pink1, I thought the Juliets were TTS as well - it was the Safari Juliets that were small on me. Too bad, they're so cute!

The Trixie's are definitely adorable, but like gigiofca I can't justify that price for fabric shoes.

  12. I love these heels. If they go on sale, I will def. pick up a pair

  13. Off topic- Anyone think the site will be updated today?

  14. I purchased and then returned the Trixie Heel in Warm Ivory. It is absolutely STUNNING and looks fabulous with dress pants OR jeans (which is what I tried them on with). They were also quite comfortable, and ran TTS for me. I just couldn't justify the price for the limited use I will get from them. However, to those of you who have them, enjoy, they are a lovely addition to your wardrobe. :)

  15. Beautiful shoes! Thanks for the reviews.

  16. Love the shoes, wish I could wear heels like that. Off topic, the manager of my local b & m so graciously went to the back and opened up the box of new catalogs for me yesterday. The new merchandise is fabulous. Does anyone know when the new merchandise becomes available online? As of this morning, none of it was. Thanks

  17. Should I get my normal size in these? Im typically a 7.5

  18. Cute shoes! Very "pin-up chic", if that makes any sense. What doesn't make any sense to me is how JCrew can possibly sell these shoes at this price point. I have never paid this much for a pair of shoes (not even boots!), especially ones without a leather sole. Guess I just haven't "drunk the kool-aid" yet...

    ReplyDelete
  19. anon @ 9:09: Yes, I would get the size you usually wear (in this case 7.5). I found them to run TTS. Enjoy! :)

  20. Thanks for the lovely reviews. These shoes are so adorable! Like many of the other posters I think I am going to have to wait until they come down in price.

  21. How does the fit of trixie compare to Juliet? I can do either 7 or 7.5 normally, as it all depends on how 'pinch' the toebox is.

I have to do 7.5 on Juliet, but 7 on city ballet. Advise anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love the patterns and bow but I personally don't like the chunky heel!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anon@10:02: I haven't tried on the Juliets-- the opinions I've read are that they are true-to-size, buuut if I were just going on instinct and couldn't get both to try & return, I'd get the 7.5 because that may be what you are in J. Crew heels. If it's slightly too big, you can remedy that with an insole. (Which you might need anyway.)

I know $250 for a pair of shoes was kind of silly... but I justified it with coupon + student discount plus... I wore them first for a party with a $20 dress. I think it's one of the few things I've bought at J. Crew for full price... but I hope that whomever wants a pair can get a better deal on them!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Audrey: your purchase wasn't silly, and please don't feel as if you need to justify it to anyone...I think you are really fortunate to have gotten the shoes, and your outfit sounds like a perfect example of combining higher priced pieces with lower priced pieces...FABULOUS!!! :)

  25. audrey - If you wear the shoes 10x, that's $25/wear, which is pretty good.

  26. Anon: I called the card rewards program bc apparently they had the wrong address and I never received the summer rewards card (CS fixed it by sending me a gift card-YAY). Anyhow, they said that the Autumn rewards card should be delivered by November 1. I imagine they will arrive faster than that though.

  27. Dear Aficionadas,

I have a completely unrelated questions. I know there was this whole discussion about the silk pleate top and its fit etc, but I have no idea which posting that was. But I remember a lot of people saying to size down, and those who are short found it too long. I usually wear xs or 0, so I was wondering since I have no where to go down from there, would it be too big on me? (I'm aware that it is not mean to be fitted)

    Thanks in advance :)

  28. Nerdycrew: I purchased the Silky Jersey Pleated top in XS, and I normally wear a 0/2 in sleeveless J.Crew tops and a 4/6 when they have sleeves, in order to fit my broad shoulders. The tops definitely run large, but I have placed mine in the dryer and noticed a little bit of shrinkage which helped. :) Jcrewjunkie is smaller than me and wears the XS successfully, as well. HTH!

  29. I wear a 2 in J Crew blouses and I am 5'7" with broad shoulders. I can wear xsmall--you sound smaller to me. I know others that are petite mentioned being swallowed. I have to tuck one corner into my jeans like the models so it doesn't look SO billowy. There's a lot of fabric here. I also got the 3/4 sleeve version the other day (because I love the tanks.) Someone mentioned they were like a dress. I do not find that at all. You must be careful if you really love something, to get that reviewer's proportions--what may be bad or good on them will be different on you.

    I have a few REVIEWS:
First-who doesn't LOVE the simple elegance of the look on the gal on page 47 of the October catalog. She is holding the Quilted Patent-leather Avery Bag (Tote) in Victorian Rose. It's priced at $328. It looks buttery soft the way she is holding it. I caved and thought I will give it a try with coupon.
It is not good--not soft, in fact stiff to a fault, looks nothing like the model's version. It is darker and not near a pretty pinky rose color as pictured, the handle drop makes it useless over a jacket/coat--too short. It is much bigger than they appear online (but this always happens with handbags-I measure before ordering.) Just don't be fooled--it is big--especially hand held! It could prob be worn over shoulder with just a t-shirt or light sweater but it isn't built with a proper handle IMO to look right over shoulder. This one will be on sale and I don't think I would even buy it then. I was so hoping for a soft, lovely leather and beautiful soft pink color. I am SO disappointed--it is NOT worth the money and falls short on the quality the price tag demands.
I would be curious to those that purchased the green on sale to see what you all think. BTW-the Quincy hobo in grey is down to $99!! I have the yellow of this--but again the leather is different than you think--it looks so soft but is not. I kept that one due to price I paid and the fact that the style is much better.

Gianna blouse in chocolate-WAY overpriced. This material is harder than a wedding d***. Did I just say that?
Anyway--cute but stiff and totally over-priced.
Annette silk blouse-nice but it is collection--it is IMO overpriced.

I am feeling the blouses are going through the roof in price and the quality doesn't demand the price tag.
Sorry J Crew--these are reasons to stay strictly a sale buyer...your starting price is TOO HIGH!!!
    Sincerely,
    Disappointed

  30. Anyone know if the polka-dot scarves or patent belts are on sale in stores yet?

    ReplyDelete
  31. ceecee - i bought a skinny patent leather belt tonight, and it was still full price.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Audrey - Thank you for the sizing feedback. It's your money to do what makes you happy. I guess with some of the recent negative posts people feel like they have to justify their purchases.

I just bought a pair $500 sergio rossi shoes and I am not sorry. It's better to make good use with something beautiful and expensive than to keep buying tons of cheap stuff that one hardly ever uses.
