Preface: A big "thanks!" to Amy who suggested a weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post about current experiences with other non-J.Crew retailers. I think it is a brilliant idea and will try it out for a few weeks. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)
This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)
If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.
25% Off Regular-Priced Merchandise at GAP with code GAPNEWYEAR. Ends Today.
ReplyDeleteLands End Canvas has 50% off Winter Styles plus free shipping on a $50 purchase. I bought two pairs of gorgeous stacked-heel leather booties in black and cognac. They rival JC booties and the Cole Haan pair I tried on at Nordstrom for $398 in quality, but the LEC ones were an amazing 39.99/pair!!!

ReplyDeletelove these posts - very helpful
ReplyDeleteBloomies cashmere was 50% the already marked-down price. Decent in-store selection, much less online. Cardis were about $40, other styles ranged up to $90
ReplyDeleteRuffles. Yes, I have some LE boots that I got for about the same price last year. They are wonderful. Congrats on your buy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing everyone! :)
ReplyDeleteBanana Republic - 15% off with BRJAN15 thru 1/13
ReplyDeleteGigiofca, my browser shows 25% off at Banana with code BRJAN25 (also through 1/13). I wonder why the difference?
ReplyDeleteAlso, Boden has dropped their sale prices even lower. I ordered the wool jersey dress in amethyst and the pleat scoop neck sweater in berry. I also recently received the wool jacquard mini in magenta spot and I love it. Great option: I ordered it in long so that it's actually work-appropriate and not mini on me.

ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried the LEC Heritage Trench Coat? Still looking for a replacement for my Icon trench which did not work at all because the sleeves were too short :(
ReplyDeleteAdditional 40% off sale at Talbots, no code needed... the prices are already reduced.
ReplyDeleteEm,
ReplyDeleteI noticed that many items at Talbots are final sale though online. Boo! I really like Talbots but won't order online and risk it with clothing unless it is a scarf or something very low in price.
I will be heading to my local store though to see what they have:)I don't mind final sale if I can try on first.
Genny, I noticed that too! How am I supposed to order a dress that I can't return if it doesn't fit? LAME.

ReplyDeleteThere are really some great deals with the Talbot's sale (online at least). Final sale does suck, but if you know your size, you're in good shape. Their shoes are pretty TTS I'd say. The stamped leather peep-toe slings are adorable, and are only about $39. I have the cognac ones and they're wonderful (those are $54, still a great price).
ReplyDeleteI was in Talbots today, and asked whether something I'd seen at 40% off full price online was also reduced in the store (the tag was not marked). The salesperson said, "Our online prices and store prices always match." So refreshing!
ReplyDeleteRuffles, THX U so much for the lead on the LE canvas. I found some amazing deals. Wow! $5-$6 poplin skirts and a great price on the ballet flats, which IMO are better made & more comfortably than the JC marjorie suede flats.
ReplyDeleteCanadian Banana Republic shoppers, 25% off sale items with this code: BRC25SALE until Jan 9!
ReplyDeleteLittle late here, but I have a few questions about Land's End Canvas since I've never ordered from them before.
ReplyDeleteI am usually a size XS or 2 in J. Crew tops and a 2 (sometimes 4) in bottoms. Do you think I'm sized out at LEC? I'm looking at a pair of shorts at LEC and wondering if I should go for a 0 or 2 or forget it all together.
More importantly, I'm looking at the suede heels that are currently marked down to $34.99 and look gorgeous. Can anybody comment on the fit of these in particular or their shoes in general? I am most commonly a 7.5 in J. Crew.
Thanks!
There is a promo for 20% off and Free Shipping on $50+ at Lands' End that also just worked for me at Lands' End CANVAS. Promotion Code JAN7 and PIN 5802. It ends today.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I received an email from one of my blog followers letting me know about a Lands' End boys jacket she recently purchased that is a great alternative for the J.Crew Buffalo Check Jacket. I'm putting it in my *You Look Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before* post this coming Tuesday, but wanted to mention it now since it's only $19.99 BEFORE the 20% discount. Click HERE.
Also, I have to say again that the Customer Service at Lands' End and CANVAS is absolutely amazing. I purchased a shirt dress on sale the 31st of December and asked via the live chat feature this morning if I could have a PA for the 20% promo on sale items and the CSR processed it with no problem.
Extra 35% off sale items at GAP with code GAPSALE35 at checkout. Expires on 1.9.11.
ReplyDeleteVery disappointing to see so much Final Sale at Talbots. They have bad sizing issues just like J.Crew, so neither of them has any business putting Final Sale items online, IMHO.
ReplyDeleteAlso thought I would mention that Talbots seems to have been a victim to vanity sizing as well. I only started trying on Talbots clothes last year so I wasn't aware until I recently purchased a long plaid Talbots skirt from a previous year off of Ebay. It is a size 4 (which should be my size according to their current size chart) and it fits wonderfully. However, the size 2 skirts they offer at Talbots now are too big on me, and they don't offer a size 0, so I am basically sized out of them due to the vanity sizing. I really wish retailers would stop doing this! I feel really bad for the women who are a true size 0 since they must have a very difficult time finding clothes to fit at most places these days.
ReplyDeleteCatrina: You shouldn't be sized out at LEC. I am a 0/2 at J.Crew and fit into the clothes at LEC, although I haven't tried any of the pants there yet. I am, however, the same dress size there that I am at J.Crew (2) and the same cardigan size (XXS). The quality on the pieces I have tried so far has been excellent, so I think they are definitely worth giving a try.
ReplyDeleteAs for the shoes, today you should be able to get the extra 20% off with the code I posted earlier. Perhaps you could order 2 sizes, get the free shipping for $50+ on the order and then return the pair that doesn't work out to your local Sears store?
FFM, thank you so much for yoru advice! And the code - I saved $20 on my order!
ReplyDeleteI still think LEC might skew a little too old for me in some of their styles, but I picked up 2 pairs of shoes, a dress (the slub jersey in kelly green was $2.50!), a pair of shorts, and a tank for $75. Definitely worth a try!
Thanks again!

ReplyDeleteOld Navy - See the metallic boyfriend cardi in this post, which is like JC's metallic beach cardi. ON version doesn't have buttons. Will probably re-post this when this series runs again on Wed.
