J.Crew Updates Final Sale (Now 40% Off}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Kristin (in this post), as well as Ashley, Po, & Nancy (in this post), who shared the following updates.

J.Crew increased the additional percent off with promo code MUSTHAVE. {wahoo!} Now the code is offering to take 40% off all final sale items (no min) and free shipping (on $100+). This offer expires this Sunday, January 16, 2011.

It's so great to see the additional percent online match what brick & mortar (B&M) stores are offering. :)

Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get? Does your local B&M have "final sale" as well?

  1. I bit on the moonbeam sequined blazer. Came out to $150 + tax. Wish I had been able to get my hands on the cobblestone color instead of the pewter, but I'll take it!

I'm happy to see the larger percent off code.

  2. and of course I put in a order just the other day when it was still 30%

  3. Sweeeeet...was able to find a Timber Tweed skirt to replace the wrong sized one that was sent to me. Also snagged a Sunnie skirt.

If anyone wants the Timber Tweed in the other size, it's a sz 6, NWT...to recoup costs, $55 shipped. musingsonmtn@gmail.com

  4. It LOOKS like there was a restock in the Lolli pants online (#32579). Unfortunately they're not on sale online. Is it possible to get a price adjustment instores? Anyway, hopefully I won't get the dreaded "We're sorry" email!

  5. Want to mention that some of the cashmere is not ending in $.99, so it's not final sale. If anyone was interested in the silk Jacinta Vest, it's pricing at about %54 now.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow. It has been a LONG time since JCrew had 40% off sale items. Does anyone remember the last time? I remember when it seemed to happen quite often around 2005,6,7.

I won't be partaking b/c of final sale/no returns but glad for others:)

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks for the post Alexis, never would have known otherwise! I did end up biting. I ordered the Crystal winged cluster necklace and the Vintage cotton traversa-stripe tank in caramel. :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ok, quick help please!

    1. Can anyone comment on the fit of the Stretch wool two-button jacket or the Two button jacket in Super 120s? I need a better-fitting blazer and want to scoop up one of these before my size sells out, but I don't want to spend a lot of money (the 120s) if the stretch wool 2-button one is just as good (or better).

  9. The cashmere cowlneck just popped back in my size in the henna color I wanted (have the black and love it!) and I couldn't resist the 40% off. I figure it's so warm and we've still got a couple months of frigid temps here in NYC. And the best part is it's not final sale! I already know how it fits but it's still nice to know I have the option to return. (Hope you're listening, J.Crew!)

Thanks, Alexis, for letting us know about the 40% off! I never would've gone on the JC site otherwise since I'm still trying to avoid giving them my money for awhile...

    ReplyDelete
  10. Wow, 40%. That hasn't happened in forever. And there was a big update, all kinds of stuff that was not there yesterday. Two double serge pencil skirts just jumped into my cart as well as the satin waist merino pants. Do not need those but for $29.99 I know I'll love them and wear them alot.

Thankfully the skirts aren't final sale since I am not sure I'll ever be able to fit in the 4 in vintage wisteria. Managed to get a 6 in the dark gray color. I am determined to own this skirt in every color it has ever come in. Just need nightfall blue now!

Almost got the velvet schoolboy but I thought someone mentioned it was shrunken and I didn't want to be stuck with it even for $29.99. But it is one of the few items they offer in tall so it was really hard to resist!

  11. WTF! I'm pissed. GRRRRRRRRRRRR. Thanks, J Crew, from all of us who placed orders during the 30% off sale.

    ReplyDelete
  12. JCrew must really be hurting to offer this!

I will pass but thanks JCrew for offering this again after so long.

  13. Does anyone know how the Cashmere V-Neck Henley runs? Is it TTS? It's a great price and my color/size is in stock!

    Thanks girls!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Kristin the Cashmere v-neck henley runs TTS, in my opinion. I have my normal size and it fits perfectly.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Final sale makes me a little nervous but I got the Sosie sequin tank, factory academy tweed pants, black infinity cardigan and some gifts. and found a bronzed ochre double serge pencil I'm store yesterday for 40% addtl off :) all items that I've been in search of for a while! Yay 40%! glad I held off on the AT promos yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't understand their strategy. Why wouldn't they ensure every item on sale is available (or not hidden) as part of this sale?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Elaine, I'm with you.

IRL, I don't understand why they're keeping some of these prices the same. The additional % might move some things, but I would have done a small cut on some of the prices as well.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I second Tippy's question: can I get a price adjustment on an item that's not on sale online but on sale in stores? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had to bite on the rainy day utility jacket and a few tees. I love J.Crew's utility jackets and this one has a lining and hood and looks so functional. Best part is it is not final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Desperately looking for:

    Merino Un-sweatpant
    Size XS (possibly a S)

Tried them on months ago when it was still hot outside now I'm REALLY regreting not buying them.

Any help would be greatly appriciated

  21. I ordered the nightfall blue cable shawl cardi and reordered the black double serge pencil skirt that arrived yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Does anyone know if the cashmere crewneck cardigans are $99 (w/ add'l 40% off) in stores, or just online? I need size medium, but there are none left online. Last time I was at my local B&M, the cardis were still full price at $158. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well, I just placed quite an order. I finally bit on the Camden Suede brogues in Plaster and the Ever Peacoat in Heather Nickel (I was feeling Spring!). Plus a cashmere cardigan, Waverly chinos and Jackies. This was quite a deal.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Denise, I called my store on Wednesday and asked that question and was told that they were all FP even though they were sale plus % off online. Not sure if that has changed now so you might try calling.

    ReplyDelete
  25. xoxo, that is a good deal on the utility jacket. I'm considering that, but I did order a pair of toothpicks and a white jackie cardi this morning. Basics, basics.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The last time I was at the B&M, I found a shirt that was on sale online. I asked the SA at the register if it was on sale in the store, too. He zapped the price tag, said no, it's still coming up full price but he could match the online price. He did some magic with the register, found the online sale price and then gave me the store's promo additional percentage off, too. In my experience, it depends on the store and the SA you end up with. I have been turned down point blank at a different store with the "we have different prices from online" excuse. The policies should be consistent but we all know they are not.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Totally bit. Very glad I waited - excited to get the 40%! I only got two final sale cotton camis, everything else was on promo, so not final sale. It's worth browsing through the "regular" price section - found lots of promo items not listed in sale section, like denim pencil skirt and a cute purple belt, that they also took 40% off of!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Awesome sale! Can anyone comment on the capella coat? I wanted the camel but they're sold out in my size :( I'll get the black instead but want to make sure i get the fit right. Does it run large? True to size?
    I usually wear a 4.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Just saw that the Wool Cashmere Capella Coat is down to just $109.99. Must be awful fitting or something for them to essentially give it away for just over $60 with this promo! Does anyone have this coat and can provide any info on it?

    ReplyDelete
  30. not that I should be looking on the site, but....

has anyone seen/tried the Factory Twill Bomber Jacket

Fitted or boxy? Fabric? thanks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bad economy + Payday = 40% off FINAL SALE

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with Elaine. I finally placed an order yesterday afternoon, after resisting the temptation since the sale started. Now it's an additional 10% off? That burns...!

(However, still perused the website and found nothing in stock in my size.)

Glad other people can benefit from the 40%!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have gotten used to the pricing gmaes all stores play. Not just JCrew. Things I ordered and thought were good prices at Talbots are now even lower a day later; same thing at Kohl's. I placed a huge order from them last weekend with extra 20% off. Now starting prices are even lower and I can get extra 30% off. I don't play the buy/return/rebuy game. That is just too crazy and time consuming. Shopping is fun for me and I have to be happy with the price I paid and move on. Yeah, it would be nice to have saved $10, $20 even $50 at times but so be it. That is "shopping life" and I would be one unhappy shopper most of the time otherwise. Sometimes you score big and other times not.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good thing I waited on some of the stuff.

I got the Marled shawl-collar cardigan for $47.99, Marled knit mittens for $8.99 and Cashmere crewneck cardigan / small / cerise for $47.99. Though I wonder if Marled shawl-collar cardigan might run too large...

The Cashmere cardigan was not final sale :D

    ReplyDelete
  35. JulieY - I know how you feel....I just placed an order yesterday when it was still 30%....oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anyone own the Fineline cami? Is this actually a new arrival? If so, it's sold quickly -- only a few sizes seem to be in stock...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Can anyone comment on the fit and look of the Wooltown skirt? I'm deciding between the 2 or 4, leaning more towards the 4 in hopes that it will sit a little lower on the waist and give me some extra length.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Has anyone tried the liquid rib cardigan and could speak to sizing/fit/cuteness?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I ended up getting the Colletta coat in Nightfall Blue, Size 4 and the Rainy Day Utility, Navy, Size 4. I have been pining over the Colletta since it came out, but was reluctant to buy since it's so expensive.

I usually am Size 2 in shirts, and Size 4 in Blazers. I'm in Canada, so haven't had a chance to try them on...here's hoping I picked the right size!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Can anyone comment on the metallic gauze pencil skirt? I wish I knew what size I would be, a 4 or 6, in J Crew's pencils. The only pencil skirt I have from them is the corduroy, and that's a 4.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Charlotte sometimes -

As the wonderful Gigi would say, your best bet would probably be to chat with the online CS to get the measurements of the skirt you're interested in and compare to the one you have. I'm pretty consistently the same size in pencils as I am in pants at JC, but we all know about the sizing issues. And then if you get it and it doesn't fit, you might have some ammo for CS to make a note to let you return it. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Charlotte Sometimes, please check yesterday's comments in the post about the 30% off sale. There were a few posts regarding that skirt.

    ReplyDelete
  43. AJR, thanks, that's a good idea. Rose, I was hoping to not have to sift through nearly 70 comments. I wish this blog had a keyword search.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I am scared of final sales also but could not resist to get the Velvet Ruby Jacket and the Miller boots... in two different orders!!! Well, if I had waited, with the 40% for the jacket, my size would have been gone anyway! It was too tempting!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well, I ordered the taffeta marvelle mini at 30% off and ordered the felted wool mini this morning at 40% off. Frankly, I learned about the 40% when I logged on to the crew site this morning to order the felted mini, which I had decided to buy with the 30% off. So, it was a nice little present to get the extra 10%! I need skirts, so this is totally worth it to me...Last week, I ordered the Armory puffer satchel and got free shipping so I am kind of feeling warm towards J.Crew again, at least for the moment!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am thinking about biting on the Eliza lace-up boots with the 40% off deal. Not sure about comfort and fit. Anyone own these? I did a search on the blog but couldn't come up with anything. TIA!! =)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Placed two order this morning, love visiting the Right Coast for sales like this. Cali customers always get the short end. Don't need anything, but the 40% drew me in. Picked up the Rainy Day in Forest. I haven't tried it on, but there is a warm plush inner lining you can't see, which looks very warm for cool rainy cali days.

    Warning on price inconsistencies:
Vintage cotton mixed lawn shirt 35351 is $45 FP on line, and I just paid $59.50 in store at Arlington, Va-Pentagon City. Returning it when I get back to Cali.

I checked out the following items in store today and was not impressed: Salt Air Cardigan-sorta sloppy and big, not worth adding to my collection, but $59 instead of $69 online. The Holland Cardigan also, was not what I imagined, but I would like to still try it on in my size.

  48. Charlotte Somtimes, re:keyword search. If you're on Mozilla or Google chrome browser, hit Control+F and it gives you a "find" feature that allows you to do a keyword search on any website. It probably works on Internet Explorer too. That's what I use to sift thru the many comments.

Ruth, re: Wooltown skirt fit. Really cute skirt but the adorable draping in front does hike it up an extra inch in front of one thigh. I definitely needed tights for modesty. It's ok to size up, as the flared skirt is forgiving in the hips and no one would notice; I also found the waist a bit more snug than the felted wool skirt so appreciated the extra room at the waist on the next size up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Connor, omg thank you. I never knew that feature was part of Mozilla. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hello everyone, this is my first post so pls excuse me for any mistakes. Does anyone have any advise on the Sutton tall flat boots?are they hard to pull on as they do not have a zipper or half zipper?
Thank you and have a great weekend

    ReplyDelete
  51. Obviously I am not meant to spend money today. Every time I find something, add it to cart, and continue looking for something else to get free shipping, the first thing has vanished from the cart. The starry (or twinkly or blinkly or whatever) Donegal tweed pencil skirt has appeared and disappeared twice. I'm not superstitious, but this is clearly not meant for me. I know there are some JCAs who consider JCrew the guiding light of their lives, and I'm beginning to see why.

OT, is it only coincidence that a sales flurry was stimulated by 40% off on the last day of the go-shop period?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Same thing happened to me this morning. Even with it not sold out, items kept disappearing from my cart before I was able to check-out. Really annoying JC trend. I had to place two orders in order to ensure my items weren't sold out at 6:30am EST.

I wish they would 1. Give us a Wish List, 2. Allow for online Reviews And 3. Fix there stock issues/and online inventory glitches.
Oh, and update Sale Stock at descent hour PST NOT EST!!

    Rant Over

    ReplyDelete
  53. The buffalo check jacket is hidden from the sales section but search for it by item code. Comes down to only $78 after discount!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I agree with JCrew needing a wish list. I just used the feature on the Talbots website and it was so fun and easy! Never knew about them much b/c I only shopped JCrew for so many years. Man, their site is really outdated~

Also, as I have seen many comments about how having a JCrew credit card is NOT worth any perks. Well, they did have the one for a few cardholders at Christmas with the 30% off and free ship which was so nice to see. thank you. BUT I now have a Talbots charge and went from silver to black status b/c I spent so much and the benefits are AMAZING! (I pay off my store cards in full each month so interest is not an issue.) Very worth it to have some store cards.

    ReplyDelete
  55. OT, is it only coincidence that a sales flurry was stimulated by 40% off on the last day of the go-shop period?

Palm to forehead. WFF, I cannot believe I didn't think of that.

I certainly helped their cause this morning. The 30% didn't get me but the 40% did.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am considering a few items. I wasn't but now I am.... looks like FS is going fast!

    ReplyDelete
  57. To answer the question about the price adjustments for "in-store" sale items -vs- full-price online items .... I just got turned down. I ordered something today that is full price online, but on sale + % off in my store and the email in response was basically like: We would have to verify that with your local store, but generally we have different prices online. Bummer. And Stupid! Boo.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Not sure what category this falls under - boo for pricing discrepancies, or yay for helpful SA's/customer service: went in today to return a pair of Camden Brogues in the Plaster suede. No issues, just couldn't rationalize having $198 worth of shoe sitting in my closet until May when it finally stops raining in the the Pacific NW. My SA (who is also my PS) was happy to take them, but advised me they were on sale for $99.99, so with 40% discount, they were $59.99 (still $198 online). That I can rationalize! If you're in the market for this shoe/color, it might be worth your while to check in with your PS.

    ReplyDelete
  59. CharlotteSometimes - There is a Google search box on the home page of this blog. You can put any keyword there. I've remembered certain phrases and found them after entering in the search box. Box is just under the header, right-hand side.

MJC - Capella coat on Ema

    ajr - :-)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Here's the trick about getting around the full price online (in limited stock), but great sale in-store dilemma. If it is full-price online, but not popped back in your size - call PS to do a WWFIFY nationwide - they'll do it no problem because it is "full price" online. Because you are still buying the item in-store you get the in-store price.

You do have to pay $8 for shipping but I bet it is a whole lot less than paying full price.

Did it with the lolli pant on Monday. It's full price online now but not in my size. They found it in-store in NY - and granted 30% off the in store sale price of 79.99. Can't wait to get it in SF soon :)!

  61. A little frustrating when they do this mid week. i had placed two substantial orders during the 30% off MUSTHAVE, have not even received them yet and now the same items are still available at 40% off! Have re-ordered EVERYTHING....with the exception of the one or two items that were initially marked final sale. Am returning everything I ordered last week and will decide what I want to keep when the 40% off orders arrive....again, all but one or two items were marked in red as final sale, so I figure i can return it if I don't want it!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Any advice on sizing the Merino Boyfriend Sweatshirt? I've been eyeing the beaded ones for the past couple days of pop-backs but haven't decided on size and refrained from placing an order (dang it, I hate the new return policy!).

    ReplyDelete
  63. Geneva: can't speak to the beaded boyfriend sweatshirts, but I found the regular ones to run fairly large. They're meant to be slouchy, though, so I'd say size down if you want it slightly less slouchy.

    ReplyDelete
  64. @Geneva: The beaded boyfriend sweatshirt, like the regular boyfriend sweatshirt, are pretty loose. I sized down and can still wear a button up underneath without it being too tight.

    ReplyDelete
  65. J Crew should be called J Crack because I can NOT walk away from this 40% off sale.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ali and LauraK - thanks so much! It'll be a factor of what size/color pops up in the morning sale refresh, but glad to know I should be good w/ either my normal size M or sizing down to a S. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Gah, restock again this morning. I'm off the wagon, officially. Got some nice cashmere and a couple popbacks. Will be hitting JC later today to do the return dance.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Just got the buffalo plaid PJ pants I've been searching for on popback along with 2 prs of the Short Chalet boots (in dif sizes). I had no idea how the sizing was with these boots and ended up asking the online chat specialist to give me a break on the final sale with them so that I can return whichever pair doesn't fit! She finally agreed after I reminded her that I have literally placed an order every day this week.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I really just wish that were anything that thrilled me given the sale now to 40%, but I just cannot! Even after the reload of items I didn't see anything that couldn't live without (hee)! But, am glad so many JCA's are finding things for sure...

    ReplyDelete
  70. True story:
On Thursday night my husband went out with the boys. I apparently thought it would be a wise idea to stay in and mix my own drinks. I woke up Friday morning with a noodle stuck to my pajama top and an empty, cheese sauce coated bowl on the night stand. My husband said he came home and found me passed out face down, all the lights in the house on and the microwave door wide open. It would seem that making mac-and-cheese in the microwave was not my only activity because I also awoke to a "Thanks for your J.Crew order" email. Apparently I received the 40% off sale email and went wild. I ordered several factory items, including a purple dress, some earrings, and- my favorite: a flask. Oh boy.

    ReplyDelete
  71. LOL Hillary. That is hilarious!!

I just placed another order. Damn you, J.Crew! I am freaking unemployed! But I couldn't resist a pair of black wool crepe pants for $23.99, and the Softspun Sunset dress for $17.99. Threw in a pair of FP shorts and the infinity cardigan in wisteria, neither of which are final sale, for ridealongs. Might keep the cardi but definitely not the shorts.

    ReplyDelete
  72. The "Muse" tanks/camis are a GREAT BUY right now with this sale! I ordered a couple--charcoal and heirloom pink! Holla!

    ReplyDelete
  73. After another update this morning, I decided to grab the cashmere lined leather gloves I've wanted for months at $30. Yes please. I think my bf just ordered the Mayfair topcoat with Thinsulate for 191 after the discount, which is such a steal. Most of the things I like in the sale section aren't available in my size, thankfully...

    ReplyDelete
  74. I have been interested in getting the Lindy leather platform peeptoes. I know a few people on here bought a pair. How was the sizing? Should I get my normal TTS? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I grabbed the merino lace tank, which I've had my eye one since it came out. I'm so excited there was a small! I bought the Stila lip gloss and some socks to get the free shipping. The li gloss is actually a great deal with the 40%!

I also stopped by the B&M this week and bought the gardenia bracelet. It is gorgeous! The flowers are feminine, but the metal design makes it a little rock and roll. Its so much prettier than the website picture makes it out to be.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hillary that is so funny!

Tippy -Yay for getting your goods on popback.

lizzi43 - I haven't tried the Lindys. However, I've noticed that the JC flats are now running tts and they weren't in the past. I always sized up from 7.5 to 8 in all my JC shoes. I haven't tried any of the newer pumps to see if I am now a 7.5 in them. There is a chance the Lindys are tts since they are a newer shoe. It looks like the toe box might be a bit narrow, but I'm only going off the online pic. Since they're on promo, consider ordering 2 sizes and returning the one that doesn't work.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Whoa, women's stock was at 1200 about 5 hours ago and now at 680+. Glad I miraculously woke up in the middle of the nite and got online.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Chris,

Glad there is someone who feel exactly the way I do! I looked and nothing is even tempting me with 40% off.

However, just came back from Talbots at the mall. Found some 50%off sale priced bargains:)Did not need any convincing. My best buy was a $140 bag for $50. Love my new purse:)

    ReplyDelete
  79. gigiofca--I can't believe that restock! Glad I got my matching PJ bottoms, it drives me nut to have an incomplete set. Also glad my puppy needs to be taken out at 6am, giving me the chance to check for popbacks :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Thanks for the info gigiofca! Unfortunately these are final sale so I want to be sure before pressing purchase. I'm kicking myself now for not trying different sizes when they were full price so I'd know which pair to get when they went on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I had my eye on the Elette cashmere cardigan in black when it was on sale and in stock back in December... I was pretty excited to see it in my size again.
Came to $113 when it was all said and done. YAY.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Suiting reviews on the 120s blazers?? Anyone? :(

    ReplyDelete
  83. hillary: LOL!!

I also woke up in the wee hours since my 2yr old decided to just cry for no reason (night terror? teething?). After calming her and putting her back to sleep I was wide awake.
I just couldn't resist 40% off with free ship so I got some CC stuff for my girls, two shirts for husband, the stadium cloth peacoat in yellow. After seeing it on beautiful Slastena I just had to try it on myself and it wasn't final sale.
I also got the cashmere tee dress (miraculously there were most sizes and colors restocked). I sized down since it seemed to run big so hopefully it doesn't fail me.
I'm kicking myself for not getting the stadium cloth trench coat but then I'm in So.Cal so how many times am I going to wear winter coats? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Ali, I can't speak to the fit of the current blazers, though I have lots of the 120s from previous seasons. My older two- and three-button 120s blazers are pretty average, but I love, love my 120s peplum jacket.

But, I can say that I much prefer the 120s fabric to the stretch wool. My stretch wool crop trouser arrived today and IMO the 120s wool is much nicer, with a subtle sheen. The stretch wool is matte and flat and cheaper looking.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Hexicon, thanks! Would you say the fit is TTS/tailored well? I'm pretty small, so I'd hope a Petite 00 would fit, but I want to be sure before I spend $230 on a jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hillary your post made me laugh! I hope you love all your items! :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. LMAO Hillary! That seriously cracked me up.

I put a few things in my cart this morning, but they disappeared almost immediately. Nothing I *need* to have, so apparently the universe is helping me stay straight. :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. I am glad I have amused you guys with my wild antics. I will be sure and review my package since several of the items I ordered from the factory are now off the site entirely, including the mysterious purple dress.
The flask though. That really kills me. I wish I had video footage of myself clicking "add to cart." I bet I asked our dog, Nippy Noodles, "Does Momma need this flask??? Doesn't Momma need a flask???"
    Oy.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I am tempted to buy the Weatherby short boots item #32003. Can anyone give me some advice? (like does it fit TTS or color-wise) Thanks in advance.

  90. This is probably a silly question, but I am new to this! Are all items that are final sale necessarily final sale in store? And does the 40% off apply to just regular sale items? The Arrow Sweater is exactly the cozy jacket I have been looking for, but I am unsure of the sizing and they are sold out of my size options online. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hillary - LOL! ha, I can only imagine how much worse my shopping binge might have been if I were under the influence of more than crewlade!

    ReplyDelete
  92. lydia, every store i've heard of / been to is having 40% additional of sale, but making it Final Sale. At least you can try on if you're at a store. They used to say you could purchase without the additional % off and return, but not sure if they are still doing that. 40% off online (and in stores sometimes) applies to anything marked down, whether it's a temporary promo ($--.50 or $.00) or final ($-.99). Sometimes the $-.99 doesn't show up as final sale online (you'll see when checking out in red), if it's a recent markdown.

    Good luck, happy shopping :)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Has anyone tried on/own the "factory wool ravine dress" by any any chance? At $30 plus the discount, it's a ridiculously good price for a dress...but of course, it would be nice to know how well it fits/how flattering the fit is.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I convinced myself that I needed a few things (I'm a hopeless case lol)...I'm kinda tiffed that I bought the knit tuxedo jacket last week, but oh well.

I got the golden cord trouser, a striped pleated shirt and the silk bubble mini, that I had my eye on.
All in all not to bad, with shipping it came to 74 bucks so I'm happy, for now tehe! :D

    ReplyDelete
  95. lizzi43 - Oops, I didn't read leather in your post and was only looking at the suede online. They're on promo.

There's an echo in the stores. New arrivals next week.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Lizzi43:
I have the Lindy peep toes in black leather and the caramel suede color I can't remember the name of.
I love them so much I don't even mind that I paid full price for the leather ones.
They are a bargain right now and definitely fit TTS.
    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Thank you jcbellemarie, that is definitely helpful. Unfortunately the closest store is an hour away, and as a busy college student with no car it is difficult to get up there! Hmm, how often do items go from "final sale" to just regular sale?

    ReplyDelete
  98. I had been so good, but I bit this afternoon and got a stretch wool suit and a pair of sandals. I have JC's Super 120s suits in my closet now and haven't tried the stretch wool, but I've wanted a dark gray suit for a while and the reduced price plus the discount was too good to pass up. I would have spent more, but by the time I checked there wasn't much my size in stock!

    ReplyDelete
  99. And I placed an order with the 30% promo last week, GRRRR! I agree with those of you who say JCrew must be really hurting. I frankly do not see a lot of stuff that I would like other than the basics, so I'll probably pick up a couple of things for my daughter and keep spending my $ at RL or other stores with better merchandise these days.

    ReplyDelete
  100. By the time I got to the sale, there wasn't much left that I did want, but I did pick up a belt and some swimsuit tops for 2.99 (!) - particularly dreamy as it's about 30F right now.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hi there :)
According to my order confirmation, I selected: Factory tie-stripe flask / one size / black skull crossbones. I think I will tuck it in with my husband's Valentine's gift.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Lynnzeeroo, what do you think of the 120s suiting?

    ReplyDelete
  103. If anyone can help me out. Trying to find a replacement for my flawed one:

    STriped Merino Boyfriend sweatshirt
    Size Medium

Just wore it today and noticed threads on the front near the front neck that if you pull them they make a nice big hole.

  104. Oops I want the navy/ivory combo in a Medium.

  105. First post here... this site is so fun to read!

I bit on the sale too. My only final sale item was the bonfire cardigan in marled brown. I hope it fits and looks good!

The other items were the graduated stud belt, painter cardigan in ivory, infinity cardigan in heather graphite and broken in boyfriend chino shorts in light ash. I figured these items would transition to Spring well.

    ReplyDelete
  106. just looked over the order history on my account. I have renamed it "Operation Shop & Awe." And yes, I do feel shell-shocked and battle-weary. I have met the web site and it has won.

    ReplyDelete
  107. hi, does anyone know if the Noelle suede and shearling lace-up booties are comfy? do they fit TTS? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  108. lydia, I think final sale went from around the holidays through to mid April last year. The Spring Sale goes until June when final sale comes back again...and so it goes...

    ReplyDelete
  109. Dawn - your order is pretty much what I'd like to order... now... again... I saw that belt in store and it was perfection! And just looking over the old 'Who's That Girl' catalog has me breaking down what Dianna Lunt was wearing... I'm after Waverly Chinos in the light ash colour too, somehow that khaki tone was really flattering to my skintone (who knew what subtleties the right neutral could draw out?)

    http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/catalog.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474395183558&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441807646&bmUID=1295030587162&index=4

Seems I need a white cardigan after all... ahem... too bad I didn't know this when I ordered Miller High Heel black boots this morning (and tossed in some clear flip flops, big dichotomy!) Thanks to A Bigger Closet for helping me figure out sizing on the boots! :)

    ReplyDelete
  110. oh dear, WFF you should NEVER look at your order history. I made a special order file in my email program so I can deny it. Now I am having serious computer issues based perhaps on my email program and fear it could be my JC orders... I think Alexis could finally capitalize on this site by offering a 12-step program...

    ReplyDelete
  111. and Hillary--you can be in the first class with me... I bought pink pants last night???? I could have actually USED the flask but pink pants????

    ReplyDelete
  112. A 40 percent OFF 3-day weekend is a dangerous thing!

WFF et al: looking at my card statement may be just what I need to kick this habit! And that 12-step program sounds like a good idea. I am not joking or making fun of anyone — Compulsive serial shopping is an addiction, caused by 'fashion envy' (among other things)— a bit like boyfriend envy, when we have to have what someone else has/wants. Even if only for a day, a week etc and then its off to the BM for yet another demoralizing return; because I really didn't need, like or want it(or him) after all.

Just saying (may not apply to everyone).

  114. lbi,

Food for thought. Always good to take a step back and rethink esp. in a new year:)

    ReplyDelete
  115. I was too slow on the webiste to score the gloves I wanted (even at 5:30 am, argh!), but I did visit the Huntsville, AL store yesterday and picked up a few things. I don't see any of the items online, but I purchased a chambray tux ruffle shirt, the army green moto pants (for a mere $15), and a big chunky scarf. Unfortunately, my store had gone back *down* to 30% off sale. :(

    ReplyDelete
  116. Um I agree I may need some kind of 12 step program!

In my own defense I set myself a "budget" which I will be sticking too now so hopefully that will help :) When I write things down it usually does.

Nonetheless- I ordered the bonfire cardigan which I have on hold at my B&M for MUCH less so that is a huge score. The lace t because I am curious (even though I know it is super thin I think it could be a pretty layering piece for the price I paid) the Dulphine Torque Sweater (Hopefully it doesnt show up totally snagged- I know this shirt is really delicate but I have always liked the idea of it and again happy with the price paid.) God the Suede Flannery platforn ankle boots which I have been eyeing forever then a few ridealongs which will most likely be returned!

Now for the rest of the morning may have to check out that 12 step link :)

    ReplyDelete
  117. Hillary: LOL! Your comment literally made me spit out my morning orange juice from laughing so much. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  118. I know there was discussion about this earlier, but just for clarification: will they do a PA if I buy the Lolli pant online?

    ReplyDelete
  119. OK, just looked at orders for past couple of days:
    ♥ Nothing I wouldn't have bought sooner or later in the ordinary course of events;
    ♥ Nothing with sequins or glitter (ahem, suspending judgment on that elusive pencil skirt which I finally trapped!);
    ♥ A couple of things that I've actually had home and brought back to B&M because altho I liked them, I didn't love them for the "then" price;
    ♥ And a couple of Valentine gifts…
¢ All at a shockingly reasonable total.

    What I didn't enjoy:

∞ the pace! being breathless and worried at a pushing shoving sample sale in my own home.
∞ having things disappear from cart as I was checking out -- altho this also happens when there's not a sale…

    ReplyDelete
  120. Ranju: re loll pant- you never know what sa you will get but I think it's worth a shot. Worst case they say no and you return then?

    ReplyDelete
  121. WFF I totally agree!!! Lately jcrew FS feels more like Gilt sample sales! Except atleast on gilt they reserve items in your cart for 20 minutes!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Alexis, Hillary's comments make me think we need a thread this week about shopping under the influence; or at the least questionable shopping with J.Crew.

I've been known to have a few drinks and shop, nothing approaching anything as funny as that. I need to read more posts like her.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Hillary: Your post was hilarious! Would have loved to see a Mac/"photo booth" story of the whole episode unfolding...

Re. the spending, I need to go cold turkey if I don't want to spend. It is gratifying to get a deal (particularly 40% off!), no doubt. Thrill is in the hunt, I suppose. I know JC inflates their initial prices (similar to men's items at BR), but I got $750 worth of items for $200. Similar to WFF, these were items I have been intrigued with from afar and had on a wish list (well, the imaginary one in my head, since JC doesn't have one).

    ReplyDelete
  124. OMG That is too funny, j crew guy in Canada!

    Shopping Under the Influence

A 'chargeable' offence... of the credit card kind. :)

    ReplyDelete
  125. I placed my 4th order, during this promo, this morning. Oye' I'm such in big trouble.
Couldn't pass up the fabulous Miller short motorcycle flat boots. My 1st time buying shoes from JC.
I'm so glad this is over after today, b/c I think I need to join a 12-stepper too.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Everyone mentally prepare yourself to not shop tomorrow if they *extend* the sale!! :) I am at least!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Shopping under the influence. I love it. I also just wanted to add in my defense that this is fairly (I will admit not COMPLETELY) unlike me. I don't usually drink alone and never to a blacking out degree. I blame the tequila Santa put in my stocking and the freshly squeezed blood orange juice. It is my favorite combination and I suppose I just felt like having another. And another. I should also have written how the website for my bank account was open so at least I had enough mind to check my balance before charging over a hundred dollars!

    ReplyDelete
  128. I placed my 4th order this morning too. All those mornings i woke up at 5:30 ish without alarm (shocking) and J crew restocked every day. I wasnt under the influence but half asleep....Please don't extend the promo!! I also have a Madewell order placed last night.

At least 80%of the orders were crewcuts for my girls but I'm very very ashamed. Couldn't resist the crewcuts Cadette coat in warm taupe. Their wool coats are my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  129. DIXON TALL BOOTS: $137.99! found these lovelys in the White Plains B&M (odd as they are listed as Jcrew.com and catolog only, hhmmmmm). Only one pair, in size 10! woop woop! Of course this does mean I spend 137 on ANOUTHER pair of boots my closet has not the room to accomedate, but shwhatever.

KNIT HOUNDSTOOTH PANT: uuugggghhh ONLY A SIZE 12 in thw white plain's store BUT FOR $24.99. I could not, as I am a size 4 but I hoped and hoped that when I returned home they we be in stock in a 4 or 6, they were for *sigh* 69.99. *furows brow*

    ReplyDelete
  130. Hillary, tequila and blood orange juice sounds sooo good. I will have to try it... just not when there is an extra 40% off sale going on.

I placed two orders too many and hope they do not extend the promo!!! That would be potentially bad for my bank account. Glad to hear lots of us are finding deals!

    ReplyDelete
  131. If they do end up extending the sale, at least I'm back on the Left Coast. My only saving grace is that the good stuff is usually swiped by the East Coast Fashionistas by the time I wake up in Cali.

    ReplyDelete
  132. thank you again jcbellemarie, your knowledge far surpasses mine and I appreciate the sharing!

question for the group here, does anyone have the arrow sweater jacket in a medium and happen to know how long it is? I have a large bust and wouldn't want that to make it too short (or tight!), since I would be either a medium or a large (which would maybe not work since I have small shoulders). Thank you for the fit advice!

now that it has popped back in a possible size, it is hard to resist...

    ReplyDelete
  133. I have 3 Arrow Sweaters. I know, it's a sickness. I would order in your regular size. The sweater I received from the warehouse fit TTS, and the one I bought in store was a bit stretched out. It does stretch out with a couple of wears.

I would measure this for you, but I have this in a Large.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Thanks wolfy. Unfortunately, I tend to be fairly regularly in between jcrew sizes! So the more advice, the merrier. Thank you everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  135. I forgot to add that this sweater hits me at mid-hip; and I'm about 5'7.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Well I am glad that the conversation has been started, and that some may be willing accept that there can be a over-shopping issue.

I work from home but go out to meet clients at their offices or at a coffee shop. So dressing the part and making a good first impression is critical to get the account and keeping their business. But 32 cardigans/jackets, 20 pencil skirts (plus all the other items in between still tagged in my closet) is more than enough. Surely I can find infinite styling ideas if I shop my own closet!

BUT as others have said sometimes it's just the thrill of the hunt, the rush of snagging a bargain and then hyperventilating as I try to find an item in accessories to cover the 45ç I need to meet Free minimum Shipping before someone snatches it out of my cart. Sound familiar?

Gee, could I have gone on another vacation, donated more to a good cause, or remodeled my kitchen with what I spent at JC last year?(Its a legitimate rhetorical question and may not apply to everyone).

So Alexis this might be another possible monthly or weekly post categorya la Hillary's SHOPPING UNDER THE INFLUENCE — where JCs can share the stories and anecdotes that will make us laugh, pause, or even cry (in private). Of course there will be naysayers but I suspect there are numerous JCAs who will appreciate. We can support each other in more ways than just being 'enablers'.

Thanks for indulging me and sorry for the long post. This is just one of many opinions. I will cease and desist henceforth (shopping too).

    Happy Weekend all.

    ReplyDelete
  137. If you like a more fitted Silhouette, size down; but I think this sweater is better a bit looser. It's a very popular and classic cut. If you do a google search you will find many bloggers that have tried this on and bought it.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Lydia, both of my medium Arrows are 23" from shoulder seam (where it meets the sleeve) to hem. Hope that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  139. And perhaps this is TMI, but I'm a 36DD and the sweater is fitted: no gaping, but not a whole lot of extra room. I can wear a tee or thin turtleneck under it, though.

    ReplyDelete
  140. fyi, if anyone is looking for the Cord Atlee Skirt in the warm taupe (?) color, the Northbrook Court store had about 12 or so yesterday priced at $4.99 + 40% off (what?!).

Hillary, your story made me snort diet coke out my nose btw.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Ibi - I see a Let's Talk post on my blog in the near future. I just have to figure out how to draft it. There are a number of ways the discussion can go.

  142. I love both of my velvet schoolboy blazers, and am happy I got both the Cobblestone and the Olive colors. Definitely not too close in color. Cobblestone is a gray-grown and the olive one is green-brown so I'm happy at $34.99 each.

I am puzzled why one has a black label and an additional sewn-in label that says 'SCHOOLBOY' and the other has what looks like a throwback label, a big green one with giant white writing? Hmm. But otherwise they're identical.

The helix necklace is shorter than I expected it to be. Ah well, live and learn.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Gigi — Great idea. The subject can be a potential cause for conflict so sensitivity is key. I look forward to an open discussion on it soon!

    ReplyDelete
  144. I did surprisingly good and only rebought the elusive bikini top that was cancelled from my last order. When the bottom arrived I decided that it was worth stalking the website for the top to popback (of course it did), instead of returning it. I also rebought the merino bronzed leopard cardigan (the one that arrived smelling and pilling and a size smaller). Now if the bikini top actually exists and ships and the leopard cardigan doesn't smell, has no pilling and it is the right size I will content myself.

Re. the shopping addiction I find that if I can resist in the morning and let other people buy the stuff that I have in my cart, then it is much easier/better. It is a game and I find that sometimes it is good to play with a loser attitude. I mean you play (get up early, find the great deals/popbacks, put stuff in your cart) but if you can resist pulling the trigger, step away from the computer and then go on with your life the things that you have put in your cart will loose their appeal by the afternoon, if they are still there. It is like shopping in a store packed versus shopping in a store empty. Just my two cents but HTH someone.

    Thanks for your post.
I need to count my skirts, cardis, jackets and shirts/camis too. I had a job to dress for until my husband relocated. Now I work freelance at home I don't need any more but those retailers are throwing deals at me. Soo hard to resist...and I bought more than while I was making more money.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Ibi, love the idea of a "disabler" post to balance the many enabler posts! :) the crewlade can be too much sometimes!

i did a blogpost a while back on 'things i'm not buying' and will have to do that again! (in retrospect i obviously survived, and possibly outgrew the infatuation with those items).

agree with Ema too about the letting things disappear from the cart can be a relief sometimes :)

it's wonderful that JCAs can help each other whether you're sharing a major sale score that other people IRL may not understand, or some crazy story about how to keep OFF the crewlade :)

  147. Per WFF's comment at 9:00 am Sunday: YES, I know exactly what you mean! Since Friday I have place FOUR orders (unheard of for me): one each time the site gets updated (and, I think, one in-between).

Each time, I go into a panicked trance-yes, feeling breathless-until I have looked at everything in every category and then click submit. Why do we get so frantic while shopping from the comfort of our own homes?! It's maniacal.

Granted, I got some amazing deals, but I am now, for once, burned out.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I am also burned out after 4 orders. But in my defense, I did get a bridesmaid's dress (a needed purchase), some gifts for next Christmas, a bag, and some much needed sweaters. But I still feel that much of what I got wasn't justified and that some help in restraining oneself would be good. Even if all of the above came in at the same price as a bridesmaid's dress, I could have just stopped there. But then I found myself trawling around J. Crew yesterday looking for more sale bargains. Truly, that wasn't necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  149. LINDSEY B: I was cruising around eBay and recognized a pic of you modeling a scarf. I don't know if you're the seller so I thought I'd let you know just in case! I'd email you but I didn't see an email on your blogger profile.

Go to eBay and type the following in the eBay search box: Jcrew jersey stripe scarf

  154. Hello,

Does anyone know whether J.Crew actually sends out order cancellation emails? The items that I ordered on Friday are now gone from the website, and I have not received a shipment email yet.

The reason why I am asking is that I had a horrible online shopping experience with Jcrew several years ago. They never sent me any cancellation emails and allowed several orders to be outstanding indefinitely. I have been shopping in-store since then, but decided to make an exception for this online sale on Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  155. russ1an: they do send out cancellation messages, although not necessarily in a timely manner. However, I wouldn't worry yet - it has been taking them 2-3 days (excluding weekends and holidays) to actually move my orders from "released" to "shipped" and then another 2 days to actually be picked up by UPS. The order I placed on Friday is in the same situation yours is, I would expect to see it shipped on Tuesday. I'm on the west coast, so my experiences may differ from those closer to major hubs. Hope that helps.

  156. IRL: IT IS NOT ME!!!! I still have and LOVE mine! Thank you for letting me know!

  158. Has anyone tried the sweater comb? I am up to my ears in piling sweaters from J Crew, and don't like using the piling appliances. Wondering if the sweater comb pulls pills off easily.

  159. Under the influence also includes Ambien (esp. when they update around the time you are taking it)! And when you do anything while on Ambien, you have amnesia for it the next day. I have also posted EMBARRASSING Facebook status updates and been horrified the next day, so I don't let myself do Facebook anymore after I take it. I should do the same with shopping, I definitely have some of the factors on the compulsive shopping website, especially "the return cycle". Sigh.
