JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

Preface: A big "thanks!" to Elaine (in this post) & Himmiefan (in this post) who both suggested a weekly "Help Style Me!" post about getting outfit advice from the JCA community. I think it is a fantastic idea. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs with those hard-to-work-with J.Crew items! :)

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I bought this gorgeous sweater in an almost Tiffany blue, and I can't figure out what to wear with it other than a tank top, and it's just too cold to wear that right now :( The material is very light and see through.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Oh rats, I don't think the link worked. It's the Merino Ruffled Strata Cardigan.

  3. Goodtoast, a strata in Tiffany blue? I haven't seen that. Darn, I would totally buy it! Sounds beautiful!
Grey or ivory would be pretty. The creative jcas are sure to have better ideas :)

  4. Any idea on how to style the merino bronzed leopard cardigan? The only thing I came up with is the victoria cami and the amore tank. BTW, I had tried it with the lived-in wash matchstick jeans in a store and the color of the jeans matched perfectly the blue in the cardigan but I am not buying the jeans until they are on sale. TIA!

  5. Ema, I'm going to wear that cardigan in the spring/summer with an olive perfect fit tank, a cream skirt and a chunky gold necklace.

  6. Ema, I wear that cardi (which I *love*) with a pale blosson perfect-fit tank and a charcoal-gray double-serge pencil skirt.

I saw one of the SA's wearing it with a cobblestone perfect tank and I liked that too.

  7. I'm sure this been discussed endlessly but I just bought the Drapey Sequin Tee in Heirloom Pink and am not sure what to wear it with both for more casual outings and for dressier outings. Any help would be appreciated!

  8. I am waiting for my starry night mini. Can anyone give advice on how to style this for day or at least for some occasion other than New Years? Thanks!

  9. Ok... I ordered the marigold jacquard bell skirt after ordering then canceling it a few days ago. I need to dress it way down so I can wear it casually. Any ideas?

Also, the petit jardin mini. I plan to wear it more in the spring but how would you style it now when the high is 15 degrees? Thanks JCAS!

  11. Em: regarding the petit jardin mini, not that I have it, but it's so pretty that I wanted to Polyvore it (having problems but might add a link later!) I picture it with black tights (warm, wooly, ribbed!) and then
    - base top: purple turtleneck, or black/charcoal striped ribbed tank, black tops basically
    - black cardigan, maybe purple cardigan, and because there is green in there, I would try it with my olive green Herringbone workshirt, but maybe various olivey greeny military tops could work... could layer a dark buttondown with a purple or charcoal sweater over top.
    - black boots was my first thought, but also could switch in black oxfords, or black/white saddle-style shoes

  12. I'd like winter shoe suggestions for wearing the Lolli pants. I think when the weather warms up, it'll look great w/most shoes w/o socks, but that's not going to work right now! Thoughts?

  13. Ema,

I wore mine (bronzed leopard Cardi) yesterday buttoned up and belted with my Wool Twill Studio trouser in heather latte. Got a lot of compliments.

  14. If you can't tell, I've gotten really addicted to Polyvore this week (signed up 3 years ago and didn't really use it!) Anyway, here is my Petit Jardin set for Em, although now I see you're a lawyer and maybe these 'combos' aren't necessarily good for a professional environment, but maybe you can get ideas for off-hours!

  15. woodley park-zoo, I LOVE the polyvore you made! THANK YOU!!! It's true that I could never wear the skirt to work... but that's good because I've been trying to buy a few skirts that aren't so business-like. I have the double serge pencil skirt in almost every color... it was time to branch out. I love your ideas and now I just need a purple turtleneck! Thank you again :) I need to figure out how to use Polyvore...
