J.Crew Email: Get to know Madewell with 20% off

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Irina, Becky, & Cheri, who shared the following emails from J.Crew & Madewell this morning.

J.Crew sent an email this morning with a *unique promo code* that is good for 20% off and free shipping (no min) on any Madewell order. This offer expires Tuesday, January 11, 2011.

Madewell (click here to shop online) also sent an email this morning announcing some new arrivals on their radar.
Madewell is also offering free shipping on orders of $100+ with promo code WINTER. This offer will run for a limited time (unclear when it expires).

    I got this email and almost deleted it without reading since I figured whatever promo was offered would be posted here at JCA. Good thing I'm a little slow to act this morning.

    I've only purchased a few Madewell items but I love every one of them. Will definitely check them out over the next week.

    This is s good offer, especially because of the no minimum free shipping. I got the coupon and I plan on using it if I can find something worth it. I love their cargo silk shirt but I don't even know if it is still offered. All their silk blouses are quite ladylike and nice IMO (I have one from the Alexa Chung collection and I love it)

    Can anyone comment on the sizing of Madewell's Rail Straight jeans/cords compared to J.Crew Matchsticks? Should I SU/SD or go with the same size as my matchsticks? Thanks!

    Xoxo-I held my jcrew fa09 matchsticks up to madewell's rail straight cords, currently in the sale section, and the madewell waist and hip area (down to the top of the pocket) run bigger. The hip, butt & thigh area run close to the same. The thigh on madewell's cords taper in above the knee, whereas jcrew's do not. Also, the back pockets on madewells are bigger than the back pockets on jc's. One more thing, the black rail straight cords run tighter than the other two colors. So I sized down in the two lighter colors, and bought my jc size in the black. Also, they stretch out after wear just like the fa09 jc matchsticks.

    I bought & returned the rail straight jeans because my regular size was too big, the huge back pockets were more noticeable in the jeans & I disliked the wash.

    IRL, thanks for the sizing info on the Rail Straight. I was indeed looking at the cords as a less-expensive way to try out their pants. I'm not sure about those large back pockets on my less-than-ample backside. It may make it look flatter than usual, which would not be good. Might give them a go anyway, I have a few items in my cart already, funny how a promo code works, hey?

    One more question for the Madewell Aficionadas - do they restock the sale site periodically like J.Crew or, given their fewer offerings, it is pretty rare and random? Wondering if I should place an order early in case some things sell out with the promo or wait to see if my size pops back in a couple of items.

    After finally sitting down to add up my J.Crew purchases and seeing exactly how much I spent over the past two months, I'm afraid I will have to skip this promotion. Even the UPS guy has started calling me out and he doesn't even know about the shopping I did in store. Le sigh.

    Anyone else use the code and have shipping charges still applied? I did a mock checkout and the shipping was still there so I didn't pull the trigger. I guess we can't expect J.Crew's sister site to function any better than jcrew.com. :P

    Hi everyone!

    I am wondering if any of you would be willing to share your code with me so that I too can benefit from the 20% with Madewell offer.

    I called J.Crew's online support yesterday because even though I am signed up for their e-mails, I never got this one or the previous e-mails in the last few weeks. They are working to rectify the problem but said that if I can get the code from someone else, they will honour the discount even if the code has already been used.
