J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Hi everyone. I went to a couple of J Crew stores today to look at the new arrivals. I have some fitting room reviews up HERE with details on fit, material, sizing and so on. Of course there are also the super important fit pictures as well. I concentrated on bottoms (pants, jeans, sweatpants) this time. Hope it is helpful!

    1. I totally agree with you about the toothpick pants. I bought a pair at the factory store 2 years ago, and I love the fit. I've since been trying the toothpicks in my retail store and the fit in the thighs is SO unflattering. It doesn't help that they feel and look very thin to begin with. It pulls through the top and bunches at the pockets. Meh. I bought a pair in red only because I got them for $15 with the recent sales going on.

    2. I was wondering it if was just me (were my thighs getting bigger?) or if the cut of the jeans changed. Thanks for your input, it definitely clears it up. I hope J Crew goes back to the old fit because I not be buying anymore toothpicks from them in the future.

$15 dollars is a steal though! Nice buy!

    3. Love your reviews. I too have been struggling with the toothpicks and haven't bought any.

But, like you, I found the graphic print jeans to look and fit *great*.

I'm even wondering if everyone will feel this way and if these graphic print jeans will make it to sale. I'm thinking they might not.

    4. There are quite a few of us who have a problem with their toothpicks. Hopefully they will go back to their old designs.

I'm glad you liked the print jeans too! I think they might make it to sale in a few months. Not too many ladies are into such bold prints. Or that's what I'm hoping haha!

      Delete
    5. Oh, this is a good point--re the bold prints! I remember wanting the Optic Capris, for example. The print was so me. But so far, the Capris just haven't fit me at all. I was so bummed because I like the new green jacquard, for example.

I hope these new jeans are a step in the right direction. I would like to buy pants from J Crew, but so far, they just don't work for my body. And like you, sizing up doesn't help (nor does sizing down).

  2. Hi! First post for me! :) Does anyone have the Macalister heel boot? I saw it in store yesterday for $109.99 vs $188 online (sale). I'm curious about the quality and if it is comfortable for a lot of walking? Thanks!

    1. HI! I have the Macalister High Heel boot in black and I LOVE them! Very comfortable for lots of walking. I bought them two weeks ago and I've already worn them seven times...

I bought them for more money than what the sale price is now! Lucky you! I'd pick them up if I were you. :)

  3. Nothing new, but I scored an old J crew dress for $20 on Ebay and wearing it on my blog today, I luff it and it's so beautifully made.

The autumn white pencil skirt will be arriving tomorrow however.

    1. My guess is that it is the one from last year, this season. It was offered in several colors and the red floral print. It's a nice skirt, I have several. It sits at the waist instead of lower on the hips, so I ordered one size up.

      Delete
    2. I think it's pay years too... I sized up as well. It's quite a nice skirt. I say go for it if they have your size. :)

  7. I just received my velvet mauve jeans in the mail yesterday! OMG they are deliciously perfect! A slight stretch which is always good and now I want to get the other two colors..navy and a red! They were on backorder two times and it was worth the wait!

    1. I'm still waiting on the navy ones. I'm glad to hear you like them!

    2. ChicCostalLiving - do you think they will stretch out? I got the red and love them, and they fit great. But Im worried they will stretch out and not go back to the same size bc they are velvet. I just reordered the smaller pair just in case. What are your thoughts?

    3. Would any of you mind reporting back after you've worn them a few times? Another JCA said hers were wearing really badly after only a few wears, and I'd love to know if that was an anomaly. Thanks so much!

    4. Did you get the Matchsticks or Toothpicks? My Matchsticks arrived and the calves are too tight :-( They don't have enough stretch to make them work. I think I'll have to return them.

  12. I just shelled out some serious cash for the schoolboy blazer in navy. It is not that different in quality terms from the double breasted schoolboy blazer and I prefer the traditional fitted look rather than the more trendy boxy/cropped look of the double breasted version. Is the blazer going to work when it's 40's and blowing? Not at all. The wool is not really thick at all. But for our mild, sunny October and November with temps in the 50's/high 40's it will be wonderful. I also sized up so I could wear a light sweater underneath and get a layered look, not only for style but for warmth too. When I brought it home I had a warm fuzzy feeling about it rather than an "oh no I just overpaid" feeling, which counts for something in my book. I have some shots of me in the blazer on my blog marianne

    1. I love the schoolboy! I've paid FP for more than 1 and never regretted it. I think this is a quality piece worth the price. I wore the camel version with a sweater under and a scarf over the weekend and it was perfect.

    2. I have last year's navy wool Schoolboy and while I love it and wear it a lot I've noticed that some little threads of elastic or something (spandex?) started to come out of the wool. It's not really noticeable but I just found it odd as I've never seen this happen with any wool blazer I've bought elsewhere. This was my first JC schoolboy.

      Delete
    3. Hi dagmara, I have the same thing happening with my Super 120s Nouvelle blazer - it's these ultra fine shiny transparent threads that sprout their way out of the fabric. It's not that noticeable and it only seems to be happening on the sleeves. I have to assume it's the poly lining that's shedding threads that work their way through the wool. Kind of annoying for an expensive blazer that I paid full price on.

  15. Thanks to all of your reviews, I finally got the Boyfriend Snowcat. I sized down to a 0, per your recommendations--it fits beautifully, despite my final sale fears. I did get it for 30% off and then another 10% off with my new card. I'm impressed by the quality of the shirt. I didn't realize that JCrew shirts are in fact substantially more solid than Factory shirts.

An exception is the red anchor/horseshoe shirt which I like, but which I find to be quite thin.

Finally--please someone take this 25% off code from Piperlime. It's only good for today.

    4. I got a different 20%, but it was earlier in the day. I'm kinda pissed I didn't get a 25% off, but I'm still psyched b/c I got a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag I've been lusting after for literally years w/the discount. Those things never go on sale, unless they're a really ugly color.

  16. i'm curious about the "lustre lace mockneck tee" (item 28229). I'm not usually a pink person. i almost always lean towards blues but i thought the pink could be a nice change of pace for me... and i *think* it could work for my coloring (very dark hair, very pale skin)... anyone see it in person?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I tried it on yesterday. It is a nice pale pink, not too nude. However, I did not like the cut of the shirt. It was cut very wide in the body and that, in combination with the mockneck made me feel like I was wearing priest garb made in lace.
Interestingly, the tag just says "Collection" and not "J.Crew." They are really trying to disassociate their collection pieces from their heritage!

    2. I agree, I tried it this morning and didn't like the fit. The color is a an ntique pink (not flattering on me)

  18. I bought the LS Cashmere tee on the sweater promo and it arrived yesterday. I found it a bit itchy but I'm not sure if it's the Texas heat or just my sensitivity to wool in overdrive right now.

I was at the store with a bag full of online returns yesterday and did not see a single thing I wanted to try on. The hothouse print is very green and not turquoise, the blouse also seemed to be cut short.

The sales associate that helped me return items told me that the Frenchie sweater had already sold out and one of the male SAs was actually wearing it.

    4. (Shrugs)...women have been buying from the men's sections for years. Heck, doesn't J. Crew style their models in men's skinny neckties? Go gender equity on all fronts.

      Delete
    5. No disrespect to the fella, he was gorgeous and would look adorable in anything I'm sure. It just caught me off guard the way he was so proud that he scored one before they sold out.

    6. I also got a cashmere cardi with my recent order...in the heather cabernet. I found it much stiffer and itchier than prior years' JC cashmere. Maybe they are treating it now to reduce the pilling problem? I found it very uncomfortable and am returning it. I am striking out all over the place with JC this fall (though I did wear my new heartthrob blouse today and am very happy with it).

      Delete
    7. I'm striking out with JC as well but it feels like it's been the theme since the summer rollout. Sometimes I wonder if Tom Mora even went to design school, everything is just off in some way or another.

    8. I went to J.Crew tonight (where I met Tom Mora!), and I saw 2 guys buy the frenchie sweater. It was cute how excited they were about it.

  19. Few things I tried:
Tuxedo skirt: fabric is very shiny and rather stiff. The hips were huge on me in my regular size, so the skirt is probably better for someone pear shaped. The lining goes only half way down, it ends where the slit start, I thought that was cheap.
Hothouse blouse: fits TTS, nice silk, vivid and beautiful if you love greens. Body is lined in poly, sleeves are unlined. It really comes down to whether you like the print or not, tailoring is fine I think.
Double-cloth greatcoat: Fits ght in chest, hated the buttons, fabric was covered with lint all over. Gold piping inside was tacky imo. The cut is reminescent of Gramercy coat but no thanks.
Trompe l'oeil lace blouse: fits TTS, print is pretty but the vertical stripes looked weird the way they were lined up on the side. You cannot see it on the website becasue model's arms are covering it. I was not sure if I could get over the fact that it reminded me of my Grandma's table clothes and lace curtains.

    1. I agree on the hothouse blouse. I didn't care for it at all online or in the catalog but the color makes my skin glow. Since I don't spend much in make-up and skincare products, I am going to file the blouse under "beauty" in my budget sheet ;-).

  21. I bought a ton of new arrivals in the last couple of days. I never could score a 20% off coupon, so full price I paid, but I've been biding my time waiting for the right time and I was just too tired of waiting any longer. Plus I got a promotion and a raise recently so my spree seemed justified.

    The recent lovelies:
Liberty Print Perfect Shirt in Wiltshire:
Fits TTS and it is a lovely combo of purple and navy, my favorite colors!

Collection Cashmere Colorblock Striped Sweater in lilac grey:
Fits TTS if not slightly large (which I like), it is a bit boxy, but again, I wanted it comfy and loose fitting for casual weekends. Sleeves are 3/4 length, each with a slit, and the side seems have a slit. Overall a lovely sweater and so soft. Will look great layered with my perfect shirt.

Bootcut jean in classic rinse wash:
I don't particularly like spending $115 on jeans; I have a pair from Target in my closet. But J.Crew jeans fit the best on my curvy lower half. The rise is not too-low (or too high!) and I love the dark wash.

Tippi Cardigan in Navy: Fits one size large (I bought a small and I am not a small on top). I needed a good basic and I like that it has long sleeves.

Tippi Crewneck in Black: Cannot say enough about this sweater. I wear them with everything.

    Chiffon top in Hothouse Floral:
When I first saw this top, I thought it was a hot mess. Very bright and too floral for my taste. I was pleasantly surprised. I love that it is silk, and it will go with many items in my closet (Byzantine Blue superfine pencil skirt to be exact). The length is a little short, as compared to other blouses I have from J.Crew, like the Talitha, but since I'm petite, the length is perfect on me! Wearing it today.

No. 2 pencil skirt in double-serge wool in Heather Carbon: I live and die by J.Crew pencil skirts. This is cut a little smaller than years past IMO, but it is lovely and I like that the wool isn't as weighty as a couple of years ago.

Wishlist: Collection cashmere colorblock turtleneck in Burgundy Poppy. Beautiful!

  22. My (merino, not cashmere) Tippi is sprouting pills after 4 wears. After swearing off JC sweaters for some time, I decided to take a chance on the Tippi due to so many positive reviews (here & on other blogs). Sigh. Burned again. Seriously people, where do you buy reasonably-priced merino sweaters that don’t pill these days (outside of NYC, hello I love you Uniqlo)?

    1. I'd like to hear some more JCA feedback on the Tippis and pilling.

    2. I have seen many tippis on sale racks with pilling all over. I have refrained from buying any for this reason.

    3. I guess I'll stick to Brooks Brothers from now on, but it sucks that I can't have quality AND fun style at the same time. Oh well, I guess that's another reason I'm glad I'm fast approaching my mid-30s and working in a corporate office -- my boring matronly style is somewhat excusable! haha... but wiping away a tiny tear...

    5. I have a couple of the Tippi cardigans and no pilling after wearing and even washing. HTH.

      Delete
    6. My navy tippi is fuzzy after three wears.

      Delete
    7. My Tippi sweater is fine- after a number of washes and wearing. Any merino is going to have some pilling.

      Delete
    8. i have a couple of banana republic merino turtlenecks circa 2000 with nary a pill, but maybe those days are over.

      Delete
    9. I have one tippi so far and it has stretch out at one wear... I would size down if I ever buy more. Carolyn from Vancouver.

      Delete
    10. The problem with merino pilling is that the weave is very tight and it's hard to remove the pills with a sweater comb. With cashmere sweaters I can remove pills easily. I have had j.crew merino pill and end up throwing it out. :( So I only buy on deep discount now.

      Delete
    11. I have a ton of J.Crew merino sweaters including the polka dot Tippi, and only minimal pilling. I wash my sweaters fairly often, maybe that actually helps with the pilling issue?

      Delete
    12. IME much of the pilling comes from regularly carrying something that rubs against the sweater, like a handbag, a briefcase or even a child. Even wearing a jacket over the sweater seems to cause a bit of pilling on sweaters that are prone to it.

      Delete
  23. A few weeks back I ordered the Etta cap-toe satin pumps in faded jade. LOVED the color and wanted to try them with the Jules dress in Italian Paisley. Toes were crunched in my regular size 8, a problem that would have been exacerbated by just how high the heel is. I go all day in quite high heels, but these just aren't comfy. Maybe if I'd sized up but I doubt it given the heel placement and how I was pitched forward on my toes. They went back. Maybe it was just the satin version?

(A plea to J. Crew -- what was wrong with the Trixie or Coralie styles? Beautiful stacked heels and SO comfy. Bring back those patterns!)

The Jules dress in Italian Paisley - I don't normally go for shapeless shifts, but the print drew me in on this one. I did have to size up from my normal JC dress size to gain a bit more movement in the shoulders.

  24. starrflyr13, thanks for your reviews, especially the Hothouse Floral blouse. I am waiting to try it on IRL since many comments about color being different. 25. Could someone comment on sizing of Factory outerwear, specifically the Classic Peacoat? I am a Size 2 in perfect shirts and an XS in Factory button-down shirts. Should I stick with a Size 2 or go up to Size 4? I'd like to be able to comfortably wear a thick sweater underneath. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In my experience, factory outerwear tends to run a bit looser and the cut isn't as fitted. I wear the same size as you in perfect shirt and factory shirts and I actually have factory outerwear in my closet that are both 2 and 4 (i.e., the 4 is looser than the 2 but more comfortable with the thick sweaters + thick scarves I tuck underneath). I don't think the 2 would be too small though. Sorry if this isn't super helpful... if you want it a bit more fitted get the 2, but if you're ok with a little looser, get the 4. Both should accommodate a thick sweater.

Also, I received the Tuxedo Pencil Skirt and the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Metallic Floral today. Both of these skirts are on the smaller side in my opinion, and I don't like the materials on either skirt. HTH!

  27. I received the Paisley Applique top, which I was a bit afraid to order on final sale because it wasn't very well reviewed. But I love it. My only gripe is that the pattern is slightly off with respect to center, if I'd made this thing I'd center it but maybe that's not "cool". (eye roll) I ordered another this morning for the purpose of converting it to short sleeve or sleeveless, maybe that one will be centered? I guess it doesn't matter. My husband says "nobody will notice", but when I'm focused on some imperfection it doesn't matter if anyone else sees it or doesn't. :)

  29. I received the velvet Matchstick jeans today (in Navy). They are so pretty and I want to keep them, but the calves are crazy tight. Granted I don't have skinny calves, but I have never had a problem with pants (or boots), other than Toothpicks. Really I could wear those too, but I hate the feeling of the pants being tight on my calves. So the velvet Matchsticks look great in my regular size, but when you get close up you can see how tight the calves are. I can get them on and off fine, but I don't like how they feel. I don't think I could go up a size without making the rest too big. I hate to do it but I think I have to return them.

I also received the Stadium Cloth Duffel Coat in Light Nectar. I ordered a 10, but I probably could have sized down. It is longer than I expected, but I like that about it. The color is still hard to describe. It is something between pale pink and pale peach. It is very pretty, whatever it is. I have to think about whether to keep this. I didn't keep the Slim Trench in Caribbean Pink, so maybe I don't need a pink coat, but I really like this one.

Last thing I received is the Wool Plaid Scarf in Fuchsia Green. It's wool and it's a little itchy but I love it.

    1. I tried (and bought) the navy velvet toothpicks and didn't have issues with the calves being too tight but they are tight everywhere so the calves didn't strike me as particularly tight. I thought that I would need to size up but my regular size fit well

    2. I have Matchsticks in denim and in corduroy and have never had this issue so I was surprised that they were like this. It's J. Crew, though, so you never know what you're going to get. Maybe a different pair in the same size would fit better, but I'm not going out of my way to order them again. I'm glad the Toothpicks worked out for you!

  31. I tried the new polka-dots cafe capri (black/ivory) today and thought it fit TTS. I am a size 0 and I took the same size with this capri but it's interesting that the length seems to be slightly longer than the retro jade or modern red cafe capris. These pants weren't itchy imo even if they do have a little bit of wool in them and do not have a lining inside. Though they're very cute, I'm not quite convinced that they look good on me. 1. Hi aeio2 - They're close in color, but the royal violet is richer in hue than the marrakech purple. I've tried both and preferred the royal violet. Purple is not easy to photograph and often comes off as blue, but here are two good pics. Royal violet on AppGal. Marrakech purple on ShOperaRach.

  36. UPS dropped off my Factory quilted layering vest #47752 in black yesterday. True to the description it was light and perfect to wear over a sweater or under a jacket. For about $50 is a decent piece; seems to be well stitched together.

It came with two tabs on the back to make it slighted more fitted but it's still looser than it should be. I'm of average size and if I was slim or lean I would consider sizing down to get it to be fitted. I don't size down to get a tight/cheesey look going on; but I do like things fitted and tailored. Not a bad piece but not as good as it could be.

Glad I went for the factory one over the regular one, but once again I reminded you often get what you pay for.

  38. Hello, I am a long time reader and lurker. Are there any additional reviews of the Hacking Jacket in Sheer Mint? Last week, it was reported that the quality was different than last year's version and that the jacket had started pilling.

I tried this on again today in a 10 and 12 and it seemed like there was absolutely no difference between the two size-wise. I don't have any previous versions of the Hacking Jacket, so I can't compare it. TIA!

    1. Melodie: That's interesting. I purchased this jacket twice in a size 12. Each jacket was extremely baggy under the arms. My other Hacking Jackets fit fine in a size 12. I'm wondering if it's just the Sheer Mint color.

  41. I got the hothouse dress and it was a big disappointment. They cheaped out on the length again. I'd say the length was about the same as the teddie dress--about 5" above my knee (I am 5'9"). It is going back. I liked the print and the silk but it is very lightweight and more appropriate for spring/summer.

  45. The reply button is not working for me, but regarding the discussion of pilling Tippis. I have the animal print Tippi purchased last fall and worn MANY times. It has not pilled at all.
I think sometimes you can get a "dud" though. Two falls ago I purchased one of JC's long merino cardigans for a trip. I wore the sweater once and it got all pills on one side. I was able to return it and exchange it for another--which now, 2 years later, doesn't have a single pill.
One thing I might suggest is a pill shaver rather a pill comb. I have one and it works great on all sweaters and I feel is more effective than a pill comb.

  49. Has anyone seen the Double Cloth Funnel Coat in Neptune Green? I looooovve it but don't have a B&M nearby. Would like to have it for Xmas time.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm curious about the Funnel Coat in Neptune Green as well. It looks gorgeous on the model, but I'm wondering what it looks like in real life/how thick it is (I live in Maine!).

I'm aware that the Stadium Trench is heavier and in the same color, but this year's design is too ugly for words...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. laurocity - I reviewed the Funnel Coat in black in this post, if it helps answer your questions about fit. The thickness is decent, certainly not thin, but the Stadium Cloth fabric is definitely heavier.

      Delete
    2. I got the funnel neck in neptune green yesterday. The color is true to the catalog. The pic on the website looks a little paler on the website than IRL, but that could be my monitor. The thickness is the same as all the other double cloth coats, as is the fit (i.e. I find them to be on the smaller side like the lady day coat--if you want to layer you should probably size up.) Again, the double cloth coats are good for fall and early spring but not true winter weather.

      Delete
    3. I got this coat in the neptune green too and am returning it. The color is deeper than in the catalog, I think but still a beautiful pastel color. The collar is weird though - it stands up and hits my chin awkwardly and won't lay down to the sides.

      Delete
  51. I too am intrigued by the neptune green coats but I don't love either of the styles...I just love the color on the screen and in my catalog. But I am afraid to order because I don't know what color the coat is in real life. The double cloth one is OK but the stadium cloth one is not to my taste - too many flaps and buttons. But the stadium cloth is probably warmer - double-cloth with thinsulate is not very useful for cold Newe England winters.

To those thinking about getting a double cloth coat this fall, I bought a thinsulate-lined double cloth lady day in February 2009. I live in Boston and walk everywhere (no car). It has held up well over the yuears - the lining is intact despite much abuse on my part (folding it, throwing it here and there). This coat is TTS and you cannot really layer a ton under it. It gets tight. So I can only wear it in October-November and March-April when temps are between 40 and 60 F and the wind is not so bad. They are completely useless in the heart of winter (only a heavy duty puffer will do). So, I cannot justify dropping $300+ on what is really a fall/spring coat for me. But the pastel would make it a marvelous spring coat.

I advise people who are thinking about the lady day to order a bunch of sizes and play around - wear lots of layers under it because if you are planning for it to be your winter coat and you live in a cold area, you are going to need the layers!

As for the neptune green coats, I am going to wait to see if they go on mega sale in February or March ...and then I can use them as a spring coat. Spring is still cold and windy and terrible here : (

  52. I would love a pic of the color of the coat especially since some of the product shots & IRL colors don't match. I would also love a pic of the coat w the Pale Turqouise toothpick cords & the Dusty Blue Matchstick cords...

    1. I would second that, Whitney! I was so surprised to see how many sizes have been available for so long at such a marked down price. Another surprise for me has been the Top in Colorblock Stripe, which I got early in the Festival Green and I love! I recognize that it is rayon and does not justify it's original retail of $128, but at it's deep markdown I really am surprised how long it's hung around. I think both colors are lovely!

  55. Somewhat silly question here...

I'm pregnant and none of my regular clothes fit right now, but I am still considering buying the Tippi in Marled Camel and saving it for next fall. (I think I'm ok knowing what size to buy since it's my second baby and I have sort of an idea of what my body will do.) Anyway, does anyone know if they typically stock a camel color every season (like black) or whether this is more of a special/unique color that I should snap up now? I'd obviously rather wait to buy it till I can wear it, but I really want a camel Tippi so I'd snap it up if the color is likely to go away. What do you all think?

  57. Yesterday I received the Hothouse floral dress, chiffon top in Hothouse, Hothouse collection skirt, La Parisienne sweater, Collection skirt in flame floral jacquard, New curator pant in matte jersey , and the Sperry Top-Sider® tall Shearwater boots in chocolate flame.

I am 5'2" and generally wear an XXS, 00, 0 or P0 in most J.Crew items.

I ordered the Hothouse dress in 00. It fits, but is a bit snug. The length is perfect on me - above the knee but not too short. The fit is very flattering. I am going to try a 0 and see if it's more comfortable, but definitely want to keep this dress.

The chiffon top and Collection skirt in Hothouse are both going back. I ordered both items in 00. The skirt fit but was a bit frumpy on me. The top is fine, but I don't need the dress and the shirt.

I know others have much disdain for the La Parisienne sweater, but I think it's really cute. The color is a nice caramel brown and I think it will go well with pencil skirts and pants. I ordered an XXS and it fit TTS.

I LOVE the Collection skirt in flame floral jacquard. I'm wearing it today with a vibrant flame Tippi and purple suede Monas. I ordered a 00. It has a high waist but the skirt is definitely on the longer side, hitting me a couple of inches below the knee. It's a lot of thick fabric, but it's shaped nicely and lined. I think it will work for all of the seasons with and without tights.

I have the original curator pants from a few years back and absolutely love them. I have practically worn them out and have been hoping that J.Crew would revive the style. I was worried that the quality or fit would be different with the new release, but was pleasantly surprised. The quality is even better IMO - a nice thick jersey material that holds it's shape nicely. The only other difference between the two pants is that the zipper is now on the side instead of the back. Very happy to have a new pair of these pants! Wish they would make them in other colors...

I also like the Sperry tall Shearwater boots. They are a cute, practical shoe that will replace my extremely worn out Uggs for this winter, but will also work for rain boots in other seasons. I wear a 7 in the Monas and J.Crew flats, but went with an 8 in these and would say they fit well (especially since I plan to wear them with thick socks in the winter).

    Hope these review are helpful!

  60. I got a couple of Cambridge cable cardigans in the mail last night, I wish I'd taken the time to go try them on in a store because they are so huge! I've ordered another pair in a size smaller, if they're too small I'll have to wash and shrink the bigger ones. I'm not crazy about the new fiber blend, I've been buying J Crew cable cardis for years and these feel weird to me, the viscose gives the fiber a strange sticky feel, and it's also somewhat itchy. I'm also not totally pleased with the colors, in the past the heather camel and heather dusk have been so beautiful, neutrals but with great depth, but this season they look washed out and flat. If you are considering buying this season's Cambridge sweaters, I highly recommend that you see them and try them on in the store first, or if you order them by mail be prepared to send them back.

    1. Good gosh, J Crew puts out a new batch of Cambridge Cable sweaters for the season, and within a week or so they're already on sale? Plus the current promo knocks 30% off. I'm highly irritated, first the size I initially ordered is grossly large, so I placed a second order, and now I see they're on sale so I just placed a third order and I'll have to return the other two. I usually just mail stuff back because the B&M store is too inconvenient, but I think for this I'll go to the store for the returns. Why would they be marked down so soon after introduction? Heck, when I placed my initial order there wasn't even a product photo for the cardigan and I had to locate the product page by doing a search on "Cambridge". Weird.

    1. I tried it. I took the smaller of my blouse sizes which is the same size I take in the Blythe blouse. It is VERY low cut, but I am going to use that two-sided tape to stick it to my chest to keep the v-part closed. I am very small chested, so I imagine there would be a lot of cleavage showing if you are better endowed. It is a little bit short in the body, but really not too bad and i am tall. It fit me like the model. It is NOT a fitted top. The sand is see thru so i will need a cami. The pink is bright but not retina burning bright. I haven't seen the green color, but it looks like it is the same green as the crepe short-sleeve top and that is a VERY yellow green. I hope this helps.

  66. I just received the Collection leather-trim peacoat from the waitlist and my initial reaction is disappointment I'm sad to say. NOTHING about this coat merits the $425 price tag first and foremost. It's not particularly heavy or warm and it's cut a little strangely, like it's trying to be form fitting by coming in a little at the waist but it just hangs strangely. Moreover, from the online photos, I was expecting a navy peacoat with black leather trim and buttons. I honestly can't even attest to what color the trim is - dark gray maybe? - but whatever it is, it doesn't match the buttons which look brownish against the navy wool. I don't think I can rationalize keeping it at this price, which is disappointing since I had to wait over a month to receive it from backorder and could've used that time to find myself a better coat, especially now that it's starting to get cold here. When will I ever learn my lesson about backordering coats? This is the third year I've done so and been disappointed.

  67. Oh I forgot one more review - the Lustre lace mockneck tee. I ordered this at full price and right back to the store it went. It's cut very wide which I was not expecting, even in size XXS, and I again didn't feel that the quality merited the price.

On a positive note, while in store today making some returns (including a pair of shoes I ordered through We Will Find It and they placed the order 2x by mistake), I scored a cashmere striped pullover in camel and a snake-print scarf with an extra 30% off. I already own the snake-print blouse but I love scarves and I love that print!
