J.Crew of Seasons Past: {a look in the closet}

It's that time again, to take a look at an image of J.Crew pieces from seasons past! As caribbelle (in this post) so beautifully termed, "ye olde j crew of yore".

This post features an ad used for the Double-Faced Wool Lexington Jacket (Item 85798; $250.00) from 2007. I know, I know. Enough about this jacket. But the jacket is timeless. I also think the outfit is something I can easily see on a store mannequin today.

What are your thoughts on the look(s)/item(s) from the past? Do you find the look(s)/item(s) classic or do you think they are dated?

  1. No, no, no Alexis, there can never be enough said about the sheer perfection of this jacket. Construction, quality and style came together to create this timeless masterpiece. One can only hope that lightening will strike this beautifully again in J. Crew jackets.

  2. I like the silhouette of the Lexington better than the schoolboy jackets that are just too boxy on me. The whole thing is just really well done. I feel like they've been trying to recreate the Lexington in the double-serge hacking jacket the past couple of years, but can't seem to fully capture it.

  3. I remember trying on that exact jacket pictured above at the Columbia, MD J.Crew, but I didn't buy it because it was getting late and I had to get to the grocery store. I kick myself all the time for letting it get away. The enamel buttons were such a special touch.

  6. Alexis - I can never hear or see enough about this jacket :)

    It truly is perfection. I have the one pictured, the black w/ ivory piping, plain black, pink, and ivory w/ citron piping. I wear them regularly to many compliments and they make me feel like a million bucks!

  7. J.CrewJD: They are really that good! The quality is amazing and the little touches (like the buttons) make them so special. That season really was 'the' season for jackets from J.Crew.

  8. I only discovered the Lexington a couple of years ago and have since made it made mission to collect of all the colors. Sigh, only three more to go... I even took the jacket with me to China to have a couple recreated my a tailor there. Close but still not quite the same. I love this jacket!

  9. I had this exact jacket but "outgrew" it and sold it on ebay last year to get a Hacking that fit. I hope the lovely gal I sent it to in SF in a JCA gal!

  10. I have this in the gray with ivory tipping and it's nice but I wish the tipping would have gone all around the hem. It still irks me a bit that it stopped in the front like that, it seems almost unfinished. I also prefer the single vent over the double vents that are on the Lexington. Yes, I am such a complainer but it is part of my job to find improvements so I guess it is part of my personality to point out what I would change.

    This style is everywhere this season so anyone wanting to recreate the look has plenty of options from which to choose.

  11. I love the Lexington - it's shorter than the hacking, longer than the schoolboy, perfect length for me, nicely tailored, works every winter, holds up well to wear.

  12. I got the tipped hacking jacket from last year. What's the major differences? And do you think the tipped hacking will hold up well?

  13. Yeah this is still great, the whole look....I mean, it was only 2007....maybe I'm getting older but I cannot imagine this being dated now or anytime soon. Classic, and wished I owned it!

  16. Don't ask me how but I ended up with two ivory with citron lexington jackets in size 0. Do you think I should try and sell the extra one on JCA exchange or eBay?

  17. If anyone is still looking for this Lexington jacket, there are three on eBay right now, two size 8's (one NWT) and one size 12 (not my listings). I'm constantly on the hunt for the colors that I missed out on so I'm always coming across them.

    For fitting info, I take a size 2 in this jacket and a 0 in the Double-Serge Hacking Jacket. I could take a 0 in the Lexington but IMO the fit of the 2 is more like that of the 0 in the DS Hacking.
