Will you be taking advantage of this promo at J.Crew? Did you pick up an item or two? Please share! :)

  1. The best part for me is that my 25% off order will be arriving today, so it'll give me a chance to order new sizes/make adjustments if necessary.

  2. I'm thinking of getting one of the collection cashmere boyfriend cardigans with this promo. Last night I resisted the urge, but got up today and saw the promo is still on (perhaps a clever trick by the J Crew marketing/mind control department?).

    Any comments/reviews on this cardigan?

  3. Oh no, I'm trying to stay strong and not order. I thought I'd made it through the temptation but now I need to last another day!

    2. I'm so with you guys on not spending any money this season. Shop my closet every day. I was tempted but then J. Crew wouldn't let me use my teacher discount with the promo, so I saved myself some money.

  5. OT: I absolutely LOVE the new blog header, Alexis! :)

As far as the MONDAY promotion goes, there is one item I would like to get and cross off my list, but unfortunately it doesn't make the $150+ amount. I really do not want to add anything else just to make the minimum, either.

Btw, for those interested, the lists of Promo-priced items (some of which have been marked down) for both the women and men are on my blog here.

    3. Oh, thanks. I thought that was a pullover...anyway what I really want to know is how the quality is this year. If it's bad quality and will pill easily, I guess I won't bother even though I love the colors.

  8. AJC - I love your reviews. They are always so helpful. Can you give us a brief preview of the Cocoon coat review? I'm trying to decide whether to buy it with the promo.

    Thanks~!

  10. Cocoon coat: I liked the shape of it (you can actually layer) and it fits TTS (generous, but I think it is supposed to fit big). I took smaller of my coat sizes and I had plenty of room. Fabric is very nice and plush, lining is nice and it striped piping detail, very pretty. Dublin Green is gorgeous in person if you like green. I did not like the zipper closure and pockets but that is more about my preference. Not because of looks but practicality, you cannot put your hands in those pockets and i know zippers are supposed to be quick but I always fuss with zippers, especially if my hands are cold. I liked stadium cloth fabric better than double cloth and better that my stadium cloth from last year (majesty peacoat) and two years ago (boulevard trench). I will try to post the review later today.

  13. Question: If you buy things on this promo and get the 25% off, but then, end up returning things to the point that it's under $150, do they take away the discount on the remaining items that you choose to keep?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Eek! Great question, I would love to know the answer.

    2. This has happened to me before, and everything that I kept from the order showed up on my statement with the % -off intact. I think size-exchanges are different, though.

      Delete
    3. No, they do not adjust item prices if you make returns.

      Delete
    4. Shanni - No, they don't remove your discount if you end up returning and your net total for the order then drops below $150. The price you paid is 25% off and anything you return is at the value you paid (the 25% off).

If you have an item that is eligible for exchange (not final sale), J Crew will allow you to exchange it and still pay the same sale price. hth

  14. OT, but I am taking my money elsewhere today. Land's end has 30% off and free shipping, no minimum (code: friendly pin: 2702) and they have some gorgeous all leather pumps for $99, some on sale for $79. I bought the sweet potato of these and I really want the nude of these. I am hoping the search for the perfect nude heel will end with these!

With tax the sweet potato heels were only $58. And I bet they are actually comfortable. The nearly 4" monas are the opposite of comfortable and I hate the price tag.

Back to J.Crew, I did notice the factory wool ruffle collar dress (aka remake of the Madeline dress from 2008) is on clearance, but missed my size. Boo! Hoping it will pop back during the next promo.

    2. I have been very pleased with Lands End so far this year. I picked up three of their a-line skirts and three pairs of their fit 1 colored khakis and the quality is top notch on everything.

    3. Thanks for the tip. I just put an order in for the sweet potato pumps as well.

Land's End has really surprised me this fall. I recently ordered the Luxe Wool Swing Jacket in Golden Amber (in Regular and Petite sizes),Item # 41938-4AE5, and itis as well made as any of the old school JCrew jackets. Also available in Bottle Green, Boysenberry, True Navy and Vicuna.

    4. A couple of weeks back they had a 40% off any one item promo and I used it to buy the Wool Engineered Stripe City Coat. It fits excellently in my usual size and it seems like it'll hold up for ages. I'm not usually a Land's End shopper but I've heard a lot of good things about their coats. Plus, their return policy is kind of amazing.

  15. Made a small order last night (with like, 45 minutes left before midnight, haha). I was eyeing the Lady Jacket in Double-Serge Wool but decided to save it for another time. And now I'm back to debating wether or not to get it! Has anyone seen it in-store? Bought it? Tried it on? Any input is valued!

    1. I bought it in both heather carbon and spicy gold. My regular size 4P fits like it was made for me, and it seems to be very well made. Spicy gold is a little bit harder to pair with things in my closet, so I'm on the fence about it. The heather carbon is definitely a keeper. Fit is slightly boxy when unbuttoned, but not overly so. I plan to wear it with jeans and maybe minnie pants.

    2. Laura - If you mean the excursion quilted vest, I tried on the herringbone in this post (S) and the warm bisque in this post (XS). If you take your usual alpha J Crew size, you should have room for a sweater. I found there was extra room under the arm in my usual size S and that would yield room for a heavier sweater. hth

      Delete
    3. I went ahead and bought the Excursion Vest in herringbone at the last minute since I've been thinking about it for a month. I've been hesitating because of the digital print, but I figured that I might not be able to order it to try on at such a discounted price again. Thanks to everyone who has reviewed it!

  20. I was pretty excited about this promo extension since I definitely regreted not ordering this weekend. Picked up the Schoolboy blazer in modern red (can't WAIT to get it!), no 2 wool pencil in spicy gold, and mixed tape cardigan in cabernet (backordered till October...). Thinking these will be great fall/winter staples! I was interested in a few other items but going to wait to see if they go on sale more...

  21. I ordered two Tippi sweaters (the heather burgundy, which is on sale, and the black, which is almost never on sale, so 25% off seemed like a reasonable time to bite). I also ordered a basic t-shirt that I will definitely use and that put me over the $150 limit.

    1. My order arrived today. I ordered the heather burgundy Tippi and, like you, the gray Tippi cardigan since it is unlikely to go on sale. Also the Factory chambray perfect shirt.

The burgundy Tippi is gorgeous! Such a great color for fall (and supposedly THE hot color right now, so it surprised me to see it marked down). And only $45 after the extra 25%.

      Delete
    2. Oh, so glad to hear that the burgundy is lovely in person - I love that color, and I'm currently wearing the heck out of all of my Tippi sweaters, so I'm happy to get it at a good price.

I hear you on grey/black/other basics - hard to find on sale, so worth getting when that rare regular price % off code pops up!

  22. @ajc - Did you happen to try on the new silk floral blouse that was on your blog (it had the hanger across the front on the mannequin)? I was wondering what you thought of it.

  23. Two items that were marked down in store did not ring up on sale. Be careful at the register and watch the screen to be sure you are being charged the marked price. The two items I was overcharged for: optic dot top in champagne (marked $24.99) and the boatneck painter tee in gold (marked $19.99).

  24. Ugh, no willpower... Workwear shirtdress + the "black watch" plaid shirt I said I wouldn't buy (but it was flannel, I didn't know that!). The workwear shirtdress was a re-purchase at a lower price, but I have no excuse for the shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I bought the Pixie Pant (item no: 31090) in heather charcoal and navy, since they are NEVER on sale, it seems; and the Excursion Quilted Vest (item no: 49194) in navy because it was 25% off in store plus the 25% off promo!

    1. RichlyPoor - how do you find the sizing on pixies to run? I've read various reviews where some have said TTS and others size down. I just ordered the smaller of my JC sizes, and am anxious for them to ship! TIA!

    2. Also, that is a great price for the excursion vest! I bought one last year for a bit more than that and it has been a surprise favorite. Love how it is puffy without being too bulky!

    4. I've found that I have had to size down! I'm usually a 6 in pants, but I'm a 4 in the Pixie. So excited for you to get them -- I practically LIVE in those pants! I've had my black pair for eons!

    1. It's not the longest dress ever, it might even be the same length as the Jules, but I don't mind it in a casual denim dress. And I probably wouldn't wear any kind of heel with it (whereas I would with the Jules, which makes it seem shorter somehow). I'm 5'4", for reference. It's a nice weight, loose fit (but you could belt it). The only thing I don't care for is the sleeve tabs for rolling them up, but you probably knew about that from the picture. I wear a size Medium or size 10 in J Crew tops and I liked the size 10 in this dress, so I'd say it fits TTS.

  27. I caved and got several painter boatneck tees that I know I love (sizing up 2 sizes just fyi if anyone is wondering, as i don't like the skin tight look!), Booker flat boots which i've wanted forever :) and the wool crepe v neck dress in bright violet to try. I wouldn't have looked twice at this based on how its styled online but adored it in the Tokyo catalog. Looking forward to reviewing that!

  28. Cate, did you see the black watch shirt in store? It doesn't indicate online that it is flannel.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, it's a very lightweight flannel, as is the Aegean plaid perfect shirt. 99% cotton, 1% spandex.

      Delete
    2. Okay now I am second-guessing myself... it feels like flannel to me, just a thin flannel.

ajc, did you think it was flannel-y? Anyone else?

      Delete
    3. I agree, it feels like thin flannel.

      Delete
    4. I haven't touched it but from your descriptions, it sounds like a lightweight brushed twill.

  29. Anyone know if the store is honoring the additional % off today too? I'm curious because I'm almost in Chicago and will have time to shop. :) I'm thinking I may go try on a few things and either buy in-store or online depending on who gives me the best price! Thanks ladies!

  30. Has anyone ordered and received the fatigue jacket? I am intrigued because they say that it is made in the same waxed cotton of the Downtown field jacket and while I love my field jacket I always wished it was longer; on the other side it could easily look like something from H&M or the Salvation Army, and it is kind of expensive given that it is cotton. I guess my question is, is it refined enough to justify the price tag?

  31. Does the Martina wedge in suede run smaller than the Martina in calf hair? I just got the suede ones in the same size as the calf hair ones and they seem a little snug. I am thinking of re-ordering them a half size larger but I don't want them to come off when I walk. Do the suede ones open up a bit?

  37. Have any Canadian JCA's noticed the pricing is a bit off? I purchased a pair of Tall Mini's which were $138 and when the discount was applied they were reduced to $98.71...I was expecting them to be $103.50. Not that I am complaining.

I also ordered two perfect fit tee's which apparently are on promo 2 for $35 but there was no mention of this on the CAD site, I noticed it when I switched over to the US site. The tees came out to $12.52 each...a pretty good price for current colours.

I wonder if JC has started adjusting the duty?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi LizT, there is no duty on clothing manufactured in certain countries (including China), and hasn't been for the last year or so. All the American merchants who charge extra north of the border is relying on the ignorance of shoppers to not face a backlash.
