J.Crew Website Updated {yey!}

J.Crew's website is updated with new arrivals for men and women. Also, as Leslie pointed out (in the "J.Crew October Catalog: Have You Seen It Yet? :)" post) the October catalog (in its entirety) is now available online (click here).
Also, the final sale got updated with a lot more items (including past seasons). As Eddie & Stretch's Momma pointed out (in the post "J.Crew Website Updated!"), the {beautiful} Bella Jacket (click here) is also available on sale! :)

What are your thoughts on Jenna Lyon's picks (click here)? {Why is that bug pin doing there?!?} What do you think of the new arrivals? :)

  1. The Bella is in the Final Sale section!!!! WHOA!!

  2. LOTS OF REPEATS HERE. I DO LIKE THE BLACK & WHITE PRINTED HARLOW BLOUSE, BUT I DON'T SEE IT ONLINE YET. ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOU IT?

WHAT'S WITH THOSE CHEAP LOOKING BUG PINS? AS IF JANNA LYONS WOULD EVER WEAR THEM..... HMMMMMM

  3. She put the bug pin on there to bug the jcrew blogosphere. *tee hee!*

  4. That bug pin as got to be some sort of joke...

    ReplyDelete
  5. I picked up the catalog last nite at the B&M.....I did have chuckle over the bug pin and the "vintage flowers"... I guess they realized that paying $58.00 for a polyester flower belt (Spring/Summer 2008)was not going to go over well with the customers..... It is still on final sale for $29.99--- while I made one for $15.00! :)

  6. The new arrivals for men are lackluster at best. Well, except for the White Street Suit. I've already ordered the Italian Slim though. I still think I've made the right choice.

  8. Their site is still screwed up...I was searching under the Dresses section of Final Sale and bathing suits, MEN'S wear, and a host of other things were showing up!...many with no prices listed! arg!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I love the Azalea Bella on FS is so beautiful! I think that I will have to get it even thought they only have size 4 and I usually wear 0/2. How did TTS did these run?

Also, I sometimes wonder if SOME of the items in "Jenna's Picks" are ones that they don't think will sell well on their own, but if "Jenna" says that they are "cool" then there will be an increased demand for them. :)

The Plum Classic Peacoat with the bag that they have shown is simply stunning!! WOW!!!

  10. Yes final sale is way updated! I have been contemplating getting the rustic french terry pullover for a while now but can't seem to justify paying $50 for a "sweatshirt." Anyone have this? Is it worth the price?

  11. i managed to place two orders this morning, first order was for the bella in sz 0, hopefully it will ship and hopefully it wont' be big on me cuz i read that it fits large. second order had a cord skirt and a cord mini and a belt i think?

  12. Some of the stuff is too frilly/overly feminine for me (I do not like the ruffled blouses at all), but there are some really nice items -- I loooove the cady shift in yellow (although the jeweled neckline is not something I would normally go for, I think it's great for a special occasion).

So much opulence, JCrew is partying like it's 1929. These prices are so depressing, it's like all the new stuff is Collection priced. :(

    ReplyDelete
  13. *cady shift in light pumpkin, that is.

  14. I am getting the impression that the FINAL SALE is here to stay permanently. It appears that if anything goes on Sale, it's going to Final Sale from now on. How else can one explain why the Final Sale has gone on for 4+ months?

  15. I'm loving the nod to Hitchcock with the Hedron jackets...I can just see myself in one of them sitting on a park bench (looking fabulous) while getting attacked by hundreds of birds!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Cannot use the site!
    Keep getting error messages- argh.

I wish they would get things working right...all I want to do is shop, which I thought was the point of an e-commerce website.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I just placed an order (City Tee - champagne only), cords and it went through however I have not received an confirmation email yet.

    ReplyDelete
  18. not sure how I feel about the metallic foil belt in colors other than silver... I actually had a belt exactly like the mint one when I was 10... and that was 1992. bleh!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Those bug pins are one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. Ugh.
    So weird.
Between the non-functional site & that, I wonder about their decision-making sometimes.
Website isn't working for me, either.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Maybe they are moving everything directly to Final Sale to try and scare everyone into purchasing at full price, instead of waiting for the markdown...hmm...

    ReplyDelete
  21. I like a few of the pieces, but J.Crew has achieved a new pinnacle of ugliness with the Lucido coat. Brown patent leather, in coat form...what are they thinking/smoking?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am seriously starting to question Jenna's taste...I wouldn't even consider wearing some of her *picks* if J.Crew paid me to!

    ReplyDelete
  23. ugliest season so far. there's mostly a lot of good stuff, but the ugly mixed in really stands out:

    -bug pins
    -tuxedo stripe SWEATPANTS
-Lucido coat (pantent leather trashbag with a button)
    -color metallic belts
-deco print silk dress (I don't mind it in the tank, though)
-snakeskin anything (sorry, I just think it's gross)
    -desert floral earrings: very grandma-ish

    ReplyDelete
  24. i find it unappealing that so many sweaters, jackets, and blouses are belted. i know it's cute and trendy, but i can't tell how it fits that way! i hate wearing belts on anything other than pants, its too uncomfortable for me. those poses/ photos just show me that the item doesn't have a nice fit, and it will be to baggy for me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. ffm: I agree with you about the final sale, they are trying to scare people to pay f/p.

The Rose tee if you look at it closely the chiffon would fray with wear and it is dry clean! Dry clean a tee no way.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can't wait to see everyone's new polyvore sets, lol! I've already made two.

    ReplyDelete
  27. OMG, that patent leather coat looks like something you'd put on before you murder someone to keep the blood off your clothes! How awful!!

    Serial Killer Coat

    ReplyDelete
  28. has anyone noticed they have pictures of real wedding parties on the jcrew weddings page? I never go over there, so maybe they're been there a while. It's neat to see real people wearing the dresses!

    ReplyDelete
  29. molly: You description of the Serial Killer Coat made me laugh so hard that I almost snorted Diet Rite out my nose and onto my keyboard! You are too, too funny. That coat is hideous!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am LOVING the handknit cable popover in camel! It's "chunky" yet oddly slimming! And the handknit shawl collar cable vest is so cute; I don't think I could pull that off very well though.

Molly: you are so right about that coat! I read your comment and thought, Hmm, sounds bad, but when I actually saw it, it was waaay worse than I was expecting. Whoever pays $1800 for that is looney!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Final Sale is really tricky if you aren't a veteran shopper. Keep in mind the size changes that took place this summer!

    ReplyDelete
  32. The patent coat and the bug pins. Who thinks of these things? Who? There is no cohesiveness to the collection if you ask me. And I think it's an insult to suggest that Carrie Bradshaw would wear the bug pin. IMO the great thing about her wardrobe is that the pieces make a visible statement. It doesn't look like she's wearing her preschool nephew's after-nap creation on her sweater.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Those Stretch cotton solid turtleneck tissue tee's from last fall are excellent for layering but a bit pricey compared to last year's FS prices.

    ReplyDelete
  34. OK guys, what do you think the odds are of the Italian deco dress selling out (or going on sale!) by mid-October? I love it, but really can't afford to spring for it before then.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ANYONE--HELP please do you have the Hayden sweater jacket on FS--looks SO cute how does it fit--is it cute IRL?
For color I had to stand up and look down at my monitor and then I could totally see the charcoal heather and the detail (this happened on accident) and I was like--OH-NOW I can see it! Its not a black BLOB;)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am so upset that I missed out on the Bella coat in my size, I have been looking for a 2/4 for months! I hope there are more tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The patent coat and bug pin are ABSURD! That coat is SO F-ING ugly even tey didn't know how to style it for the picture--it is SO BIZARRE! All the SUPER pricey collection stuff is just off the deep end!
I agree with those saying the bug pin is a preschool project-WTF??

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, I for one am not all that impressed with the new crop of items...nothing really jumped out as a must have.

What's up with the YAWAH.com superimposed over a bunch of the pictures...looks like they swiped them off of ebay or something? Leads me to believe that things aren't getting much better in terms of the web site.

    ReplyDelete

  40. ugh, I have to turn off my computer for a little bit, but I am worried about losing items in my shopping bag! And I can't order them for maybe a couple hours. :(

    ReplyDelete
  41. I know people are always gushing about the sea glass piper tank on here -- it's in the final sale section.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Overall, not impressed with these Oct. looks! wow, I sent a fortune last fall....my wallet and hubby say, "Thanks Jcrew, for the worst fall in 7 years and a screwed up website...."

    ReplyDelete
  43. Internet shoppers -- In case anyone is considering the new "big-rings rollneck silk dress," don't buy it online! I've seen it on sale for I think $90 at the Manhasset and Roosevelt Field stores in NY.

    ReplyDelete
  44. FFM: I've been thinking that final sale might be permanent too. Sad, especially because it seems like things are moving so quickly from full-price to final sale, it seems!

    ReplyDelete
  45. PS. I like the dream silvie so much and noticed the kaylie dress in the sale section, which seemed similar. Is this from last year? Anyone who's tried it on / bought it, what are your thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  46. The J. Crew website is not working for me... the front page works, but clinking on any subsequent links-- Women, Final Sale, etc. brings me to an error page.

    Anyone? :(

    ReplyDelete
  47. LOL, the "serial killer coat" is also totally useless...if it's cold enough out to wear a leather jacket, you are going to want longer than elbow-length sleeves. Another miss from the j.crew collection.

    ReplyDelete
  48. heather - If I am really fanatical about certain items, I print the shopping cart page for easy item number reference.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Just curious - what do you guys think of the latest J Crew merchandise...is it too basic? Are you still going to buy as much of the more basic cashmere, knit tops, and cord pants in this tough economy? Are you cutting back on overall apparel purchases these days?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anon 2:31: I think the latest merchandise is lovely. However, the prices continue to get more and more outrageous. I know I have to LOVE an item or feel I'm going to get TONS of wear out of it before I fork over several hundred dollars on it. But some items like the Butterfield, Astor Jacket, Cashmere Academy cardi are ridiculously priced. If I wanted to spend that much on one item of clothing, I'd go to Neiman's. But I don't so I'm not. Do you see what I'm saying?

And yes, I think the economy has a lot to do with my unwillingness to part with my money so freely these days. It so odd to me that J crew would be trying to move more "up-scale/expensive" in these times...very bold move.

For example, my mom, wo is a St. John/ Neiman Marcus kind of lady, vowed NEVER to buy any J crew items at full price again because she feels it's a rip off (especially) when you see those same items on the final sale rack just a few weeks later!

The whole game is wearing thin with many J crew consumers, me included.

    ReplyDelete
  51. If you were choosing between the Clea jacket in charcoal and the penny jacket in black-which one would you choose and why?

    ReplyDelete
  52. To further what Allison wrote, the big links roll neck silk dress that is in the brand new catalog is on sale in stores for $59.99 with an extra 25% off! I think it is totally worth it for that, a great dress to have on hand for late minute dinner plans. Do you all think it can transition into winter with tights and boots or the right heels?

    ReplyDelete
  53. anon @ 3 p.m.: My problem was that I couldn't choose. I ordered both jackets this morning1

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anon 3:00: I would choose the Penny Jacket, more timeless.

Btw, I should add that I don't care if everyone of those items were handmade by Miuccia Prada herself. I'm still not happy about walking into my favorite store and seeing those prices! If I want Prada, Gucci or Hermes, I'll go shopping at those boutiques.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Tammlee-holy cow! In those same colors? I need a 'go to' going out jacket, and I like them both.

    Weab-thanks-it's so hard to decide.

    ReplyDelete
  56. anon @3:00pm: If I had to choose it would be the Penny jacket in Black...it is chic, elegant, timeless, and much more versatile in a wardrobe.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm not sure at Final Sale prices I would be interested. More of the same, just at a higher cost. Way to go, J.Crew. Perhaps you should check with the economists prior to commissioning a bunch of stuff to be made at such high prices. For now, I'm going to sit tight with what stuff I already have!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Fabulousfloridamommy-thanks- I really like the cut of the Penny. I really love the houndstooth charcoal fabric though. I'll have to go stare at them again.

    ReplyDelete
  59. anon @3:00: My guess is there will be more houndstooth in the Holiday catalog, so if you aren't sure, maybe you could wait until then? I would love to see some black and white houndstooth, personally. If the Greta was black and white instead of Sweet Potato houndstooth...I would have definitely purchased it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. anon @ 3:13: I got the penny in ivory and clea in black. However, I like all the color options. I do think I'll wear the penny more often.

    I like your taste!

    ReplyDelete
  61. ffm: I know what you mean about black and white, however I do like the Greta houndstooth in sweet potato. It's a fun look!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Is the site still down for everyone? I hope it's not down for much longer!! :-(

    ReplyDelete
  63. tammylee: I do think the Sweet Potato houndstooth is very cute, too. I just think it would have more longevity in classic black and white. :) Btw...when you get your Ivory Penny Jacket, try it on with the metallic Cloque' Pencil Skirt and see what you think. :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hi again,

I agree that this "Final Sale" situation is tiresome. When did JCrew sign on to the going-out-of -business-for-the-last-3yrs school of thought like some high street rug store?

I've taken to saving my receipts & returning full- price items when a sale item arrives. Expensive & troublesome, I know. Luckily, I my B&M associates have always been very helpful!

Oh & Heather, I hope this little short-cut helps. Whenever I'm in the midst of fantasy shopping online, I take frequent "Snapshots" of my shopping cart. On a MAC, if you press ALT, Shift, & the #4 keys at once, you can activate your desktop camera. A small compass icon will replace your arrow on screen. Drag it to a corner of whichever screen you'd like to caputure. Press down & hols the enter key while dragging it over the screen. It will grey out the area included in the shot. When you let go of the enter key, it takes a "shot" of that are & lists it as a picture on your desk top. It sounds a lot more complicated than it is to perform & provides a printable back up with item #s.

    Hope that's helpful.

    Heather:D

  65. fabulous florida mommy! while you are posting to this section and because you outfit picks are always fabulous, what do you think of the gold rings roll neck dress and do you think it could go with boots and tights? i am starting to doubt my purchase of it .. anyone else feel free to leave an opinion too!

    ReplyDelete
  66. ffm: Good idea. I'll try the skirt with that jacket. Kudos to you for remembering who has which pieces...I'm impressed!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Fabulousfloridamommy-that Greta coat is beautiful. I like the sweet potato, but agree that black and white would be stunning and more versatile.

Tammylee-the Penny in ivory is gorgeous-moreso than the black. I really need a dark non-work type jacket though. I may buy both, like you did, and return one. I wish I could keep both!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. FFM-- :( It's still not working for me and I use IE too. Waah! I even cleared my history, etc. I keep getting this message:

    JSP_EXECUTION_FAILED

Maybe Mozilla will work at home for me.

    ReplyDelete
  69. tammylee: no kidding! I don't know how ffm keeps it all straight! Great job ffm!

    ReplyDelete
  70. anon @ 3:40: Actually, I was going to order the Penny in black at first, but then I realized I probably already have too much black so I opted for the ivory.

Please let me know what you end up ordering and what you think when you get the jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I gave my boyfriend one of my credit cards (the one that has the biggest spending limit) so I wouldn't go crazy, now I have to wait for him to get home from work so I can order stuff... one item is an xmas gift for him (cotton cashmere argyle sweatervest)! Not sure how I am going to explain that I need the card, he'll get mad if he thinks I'm just buying more stuff for myself *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  72. anon @3:34: I think you can wear tights and boots with the dress, but it will be best if they are a dressier boot. You might even consider one of the *booties* that are prevelant this season, as well. Keep your accessories simple...like a pair of gold hoop earrings and a gold bangle. A cardigan over the dress would help make it a little more casual and then a more casual boot could work, too...if that's what you prefer. Boden has a microfiber boot that would work well with the dress Click Here . It is dressier than a normal leather boot. :) HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  73. The Boden boots actually have a mock suede look as opposed to microfiber...the microfiber would give the dressiest look if you are able to find a pair, or even like them for that matter. :)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Tammylee-I've will let you know-thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Has anyone received their catalog yet in the mail?

    ReplyDelete
  76. This comment has been removed by the author.

  77. Molly, the Serial Killer Coat is hysterical! Good call - I thought I saw Patrick Bateman wear that in "American Psycho".

    ReplyDelete
  78. I wanted to clarify a couple things:
The yawah.com note across the pics has to do with ADOBE and their picture software--annoying but nothing too strange about it.

I AM DEFINITELY getting emails, order tracking numbers and orders in a timely fashion now. I even think the website is updating now--because items are dropping off right after they are purchased. This is great news!
    YEAH!!!
Also-I ordered the Piper tank for the third time because they said they had a couple in size 0. (I ordered sz 0 yesterday also and it was canceled). I recv'd a size 4 that I will sell if the zero comes and fits (I can actually pull off the 4 even though I really need size 2 in their tops) but the armpits are fine. A lot of fabric in the body though.
Anyway, it's worth a shot and I learned this because I have ordered so many beaded T-shirts 3x that are in stock now and shipping. This means they are replenishing some of these sale items--not just that they are showing up again but do not really exist!
I clarified with a GREAT CSR on each item and she told me how many there were etc. of each item.
She also said they get returns, stores compile stuff and send it to warehouse etc. So GO FOR IT if you wanna try a FS item--what's to lose?? Just take the mindset that it's no bigge if it doesn't come.

Sorry for the long post just had to share:)

Lastly, I got the catalog today along with my $25 giftcard (for complaining after WAY TOO much SH*T going on. yes, I waited folks and after I recv'd the wrong item once, another item that came out of nowhere for the 3rd time (yes-I got 3 of the same!) and SO MANY canceled items I lost count--I finally wrote them.

    ReplyDelete
  79. YAY the site is now working for me! I can't pull up any of these new flower pins though? I wonder if they're on the site yet--seem to be a big deal with this release so it's weird they are not showing up. Or, maybe it's my computer (again!)

    ReplyDelete
  80. casual-crew - no catalog for me yet and I recvd my mail today

Anyone try or have the SUPER 120s in gray? Is there a slight sheen to the fabric?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I looove the French serge day coat (96311)!!!! Saw it a while ago. Too bad I can't justify the color-- I'm not sure I'd wear it-- and "midweight wool" in a place that's already sliding into winter.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I just looked at the sale section on the Web site. Is it me, or do some of the dresses (at least) have some word in gray written horizontally across them on the dresses page? Does anyone see this but me? What does it mean? Am I losing my mind???????

    ReplyDelete
  83. Ahhh, I see the answer to my question. Thank you, covert5. That is weird, however.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Anon @ 4:42: I was thinking the same thing, that i love the coat but am wondering about the color and weight. Maybe that's why they call it a "day" coat. :) It's so cute though!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I just got a CARD MEMBERS ONLY EARLY ACCESS email from jcrew.. to bad I have known for a few hours now. But, still I got it. Its the pic of the 2 girls with 1 guy in between as pictured in the new catalog.

It states.. THEY'RE HERE WE'RE TELLING OUR CARD MEMBERS FIRST!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I've got to admit I am rather underwhelmed by most of the new stuff. What I did like was primarily out of my college student price range. The only thing I will buy for sure is the chiffon bow city tee cardigan. It's adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Re: the city tee cardigan...seems like this is a popular item among us already. I have already self-declared that I'll eventually get it too :) Is everyone leaning toward the chiffon bow one, or the grosgrain one? Esp. those who have seen it in person...I just can't tell if the bow is weird looking or not IRL from the internet/catalog pics.

    ReplyDelete
  88. colletenoelle: your comment made me think of the scene in Clueless where Cher asks, "I know you can be overwhelmed and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever be just whelmed?"

I think I am just "whelmed" by the new catalog :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. appgirl - I have already ordered the grograin one, it is machine washable. I wish they had it in colors too, I would have ordered more than 1.

I combined it with the vintage bootcut cords and a cashmere kit to get free shipping using the ISB code. But other than that nothing makes me want to buy.

Hoping the Holiday rollout will be good, if not I will not be ordering until the new Spring items comes in.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Appgal, that wasn't in Clueless, it was 10 Things I Hate About You (RIP Heath Ledger), but great analogy! ;-) Her friend's answer: I think you can in Europe. ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  91. Anon @ 5:55...oops :) You're so right! I love both of those movies and I think they came out around the same time. Sigh...it's definitely Friday isn't it? I'm frazzled ;)

    ReplyDelete
  92. Reminds me of the horrible bug pins...in the Crewcuts section they have a little girls t-shirt with a bug on it....my 7 year old daugher said, "What is that weird thing on the shirt?" item #98739

    ReplyDelete
  93. OT - I just ordered the silver mocs and used PEEKABOO. I asked her about also using my teacher discount and she tried, but her system would only let her input one discount. :( So, I went with the PEEKABO b/c it was more. So, I don't understand why some CS will allow it when it was her computer that wouldn't let it. She was more than willing to, in fact, I could hear her typing away. Oh, well, I still got a good deal, and even with shipping, it was cheaper than I could have gotten it in my b&m.

  94. Tuesday Trench Coat:

I just wanted to follow-up on the other reviews, since many of us adore this, but dislike the sizing.

If you have a good tailor, it seems fairly easy to get this "fixed." All of the excess material is in the back, below the bust. My regular size (0P) fits me perfectly through the chest, but needed 8 inches (Jcrew--what were you thinking!) taken in from the waist and the hem. And I had it taken in conservative, with an eye towards wearing a sweater underneath. With the alterations, the front pockets fall closer to my side, which I prefer, and the back seams look more curved. My tailor charged $30, which is hefty, but well worth it for me. I've been looking for a short trenchcoat-style for a long time!

Anyway, just something to consider if anyone is sitting on the fence about it.

I also bought the cooper chino jacket, which is delightful in the rhuburb color. Thanks so much, aficionadas, for the heads-up on this item!

    ReplyDelete
  95. The flower pins aren't online yet :(

    ReplyDelete
  96. Wow... I am really underwhelmed by this new collection. Some of the pieces are certainly very pretty, but I wouldn't/can't wear most of them. I was looking for some casual fall shirts for the in between weather, but I don't see one item that I would pay full price for! (I will, however, stalk the Uptown tote and the Peacoat.) Oh yeah, and I am disappointed with the ruffle neck short sleeve henley - it drowns me, so I'm giving it to my mother =(

    ReplyDelete
  97. I'd like to add (after looking at the online catalog) that I am IN LOVE with the wedding section of the catalog. At first I though it was a little too "gossip girl" but I love how it's different... it's so cool and glamorous looking. The crewcuts section is also adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I don't know if anyone has seen this yet, but if not, you all MUST go to the weddings section on the JCrew website and watch "our favorite first dance video ever"...IT'S AWESOME!!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. The website was in the middle of crashing when I was trying to finalize my order for the Bella in Herringbone. When the website started back up, it was gone :(

    ReplyDelete
  100. Wow, I got this shirt in stone a little more than a year ago, and I think it may have been even cheaper. Old stuff in final sale?

    ReplyDelete
  101. does anybody have the cashmere hacking jacket? any details to share? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  102. slightlyoldersally: hahahhah!! ROFL!!!! That is the funniest thing I've seen in a LONG time!!!! Thank you for sharing, I would never have looked at that if you hadn't suggested it. Hahahahah!!!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Re: super 120s dress in violet

I ordered when I saw it was on promo for $135. Unfortunately, just received and had same problem others here mentioned--way too much fabric in the back of the dress!!! I don't love the dress enough otherwise to shell out for alterations, so it's going back.

  104. Get 20% off through 9/21 and free shipping at Old Navy with code "BFF" online, or take a friend to Old Navy and say "BFF" at checkout to get 20% off. (silly, I know.)

  105. Cass: If you really liked the dress, you may want to try a smaller size. May really change the fit, including extra fabric. It did for me.

  106. Really liked many of the new items--they offer some nice twists on classic design. Really like the Greta--particularly because of the sweet potato color. And really like Sequin Tweed Ecole. The trim on along the seems really makes the jackets structure pop. Unfortunately won't chasing it or much else--too much black and its not a color I wear well. So sad.

Have been waiting for the arrival of the Deco Dress since I saw in the Look Book back in August. Will order to at least try for size, but I am afraid its going to be too short for me.

    a. @1:25 p.m.: I think the Deco dress will hang around until there is a 20% personal shopper or private sale and then it will fly out of the warehouse. That's what happened with Verushaka this past spring. (I got one and I love it. The silk twill has beautiful drape. I am hoping the Deco is the same fabric.)

weab: I'm with your home. Its the rare J.Crew piece that I will pay full price for. I snatch up many items at 20%--its only a little less than JC's standard 30% mark down. If they mark-down for less later and its still got the tags on it, I return it and take the extra savings. I don't like all of JC's crazy pricing strategies but I have developed a system for getting what I want at the best price I can.

  107. weab; oops! I'm with your mom, not your home. That was goofy! I never see these goofs until I publish!!

  108. Hey appgal -- I saw the french terry pullover at my B&M a while ago. The fabric is soft and yummy and drapes very nicely. Certainly the clothes equivalent of comfort food. I can't pay $50 for a sweatshirt, but if the price went down, it's a good deal. You can size up without losing any style, because it hangs well.

  109. I saw the city tee at the retail on Friday and they have one that's not online - it's sea salt color with ruffles around. There's also a grey one with the mandarin collar. I liked the grosgrain also but I think I may try a larger size. It just seems to fall a little short.

I really like the penny jacket too, but I have really too many things in ivory and yellow. How does the chest pockets look for someone with a bigger chest?

  111. Whenever I visit the J.Crew website, I feel as if they're begging me to not buy anything. I swear to GOD.

  112. laura1 - I went to Old Navy today and got the skirt that looks like J Crew's Belle. I blogged about it here. It's down to $6.99 now before the additional 20%.

  113. Does anyone know if the deco dress is lined? It should be, at that price, but it doesn't say so.
And it does look very short.

  114. gigofca - I've noticed several things at Old Navy this season that were very similar to J Crew items, just a little less detail and quality of fabric. For instance, their sweater jackets, ruffled collar cardis, and pretty much all of their jewelry. They also had a nice trench coat, but I hate coats with 3/4 length sleeves! It's always worth a walk-through at our Old Navy - I've gotten some great finds - especially when I'm on a J. Crew credit card fast (like right now ;)

  115. I ordered a wool Bella! Let's hope it arrives.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Forgot to add, I got the gray and the navy wool herringbone. The tan color (light heather nut) is still available in tall 10, 12, 14. The velvet is available in leaf, welsh purple, black, and deep chestnut in a variety of sizes.

  117. Man - I checked too early this morning - the Wool Bella wasn't up. I guess I missed it. I ordered the Velvet in Leaf. Do these fit snug? I bounce back and forth between a Tall and Regular. I got a regular in this year's Ecole, and also ordered a regular in the Bella. I'm checking again tomorrow for the wool one! Audrey, what time did you check?

    ReplyDelete
  118. I can wear regular jackets too, but I actually prefer my jackets in tall if I can get them-- I like the longer sleeves and I have a long waist, and I'm 5'10". Also, the case this morning was that they only had the colors I want (i.e., navy and gray) in tall... so that was ok with me.

I heard that Bellas fit larger; can someone confirm?

I checked about 10-15 minutes before I ordered and then posted in this entry... so about 9:45 a.m., whichever time zone is on this blog? I'm actually overseas right now, it was about 3-4 p.m. in the afternoon.

  119. Thanks Audrey. I'll check again tomorrow morning. I really want the wool one. I'm 5'10"-11" and generally wear a Tall in the outerwear, but Tall/Regular in the blazers. I convinced the CS rep to put a note that I could return it in case the Regular doesn't fit! Oh, and for those of you that have the Bella, do you really wear it with the collar flipped like in the picture??

  120. Does anyone have the Kaylie wool jersey dress? Does it run true to size and how is the fabric? It is a catalog/website item only, not to mention fs, and I'm hesistant to order w/o trying it on. Would love some feedback if you have it. TIA!

  121. That "First Dance" video was all over the news earlier this year. The couple who did it lives in the San Diego area, and they took dance lessons in planning for their wedding. While having lessons, they decided this would be fun, and their instructor helped them choreograph it, and they practiced it at their lessons. Ellen had them on her show and they did the dance again - hysterical! They are not experienced dancers, just average people with some rhythm, and I was amazed by how well they did. And now - they will be watched for all eternity online! It must have been one heck of a wedding reception to attend! :-)

  122. Lindsey B. - I agree. There are some very Crew-ish items at Old Navy. I saw the sweater jacket. Cute in theory. Not good in 100% cotton and 0% spandex. The ruffled collar cardis were cute and I have the gray argyle one. Dressed up right, it looks expensive. The jewelry was also cute in theory, but most items looked cheap. I *did* get the black trench coat Yesterday. I got it for $34.50 + 20% off. I agree that the 3/4 sleeves aren't desirable for this item, but I'm looking at it as a fashion piece. It's thin and definitely an item to throw on in cool weather. Not for the rain or cold.

  124. A big OOPS... I meant to say that I heard Bellas run small.

It's completely opposite of what I wrote.

    :(

Hopefully that did not influence anyone.

  125. Has anyone else noticed that many sale items say "yahwah.com" over them? Did J. Crew get images of its own products from a different web site? It makes me hesitant to order any sale items.

  126. Add to the Ugly List:
Men's patchwork sportcoat AND matching pants! I could totally see some idiot hipster trying to wear them together for supposed ironic value. Ugh.

  127. Those pants and blazer are just awful. My husband's eyes just glazed over in shock!

  128. I was not a big fan of pins, but after I checked October catalog, I start to think that star pins are adorable on simple dresses, I won't buy bug pins though.

  129. Kirbydog, Did you ever get your plum berry ASTRID? If so, what do you think? I am getting mine hopefully on Monday...I am tall too so just wondering....how's the color? fit?

  130. heather, the patchwork jacket looks like something a HOBO would wear---would make a great Halloween costume:)

  132. gigiofca and lindsey b: thank you so much for posting about trench coat at OldNavy. I actually happened to look for 3/4 sleeves trench coat and I loved the ON one! I loved the price even more! Got it for $28, so I got one for my mom too! If its not for you guys I would never in a million year look for a coat at ON (I actually dont shop there ever), but this coat is nice quality!

    ReplyDelete
  133. Are the ON trench coats online or are you all getting them at a B&M? I can't find them on the site, but will look again. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  134. I'd like to see a couple stepping out together -- he with the patchwork pants/jacket and she with the Italian leather Serial Killer coat and a big bug pin. They could have their photo taken saying "We shop at J. Crew!" What is the Crew thinking??

  135. karen,
