"Thanks!" to Julie who guest blogged about J.Crew's Snow-leopard Simone Peacoat. The following is her review:
As soon as I saw this coat online in the new Sept. arrivals I fell in love with the styling of it! I looked at it several times a day contemplating it for over a week….I had a generous rewards card to spend and wanted to be sure of my purchase. I received mine last Tuesday………When I took it out of the box I loved the styling just as much as online.

First, the wide notched collar is fabulous and looks very fashionable and the button detailing in the back adds just that extra special touch. It is beautifully tailored as well. I found the bracelet sleeves to be actually full length on me and I am almost 5’10” so this was a surprise!

Second, the fabric, as it is described online: “The combination of wool and silk creates a truly magnificent feel and the kind of quality you’d expect from couture.” Well, this was my only let down on this jacket…I thought the fabric would feel wonderful to the touch…nice and soft and that just isn’t so in my opinion. Even my 7 year old fashion plate daughter (without me saying a word—later on, when I just showed her the jacket) said, “The fabric isn’t as soft as I thought it looked online….” In all fairness, I believe she was thinking it would be soft like a kitty/snow leopard’s fur….but, you get the idea…..nice enough fabric just a bit different than expected/describe in my opinion.

Third, sizing. The jacket fits true to size if you plan on wearing a light to medium weight sweater underneath. If you are going for something a bit lighter underneath, I might size down. It is cut a bit generously around the mid section in my opinion. Otherwise, the arms/shoulders fit me true to size.

Fourth, the lining is two tone. The body is a gray poly silk and the arms are lined in a purple poly silk. Purple is my favorite color so I liked this touch.

Overall, I am happy with the jacket and plan on getting lots of wear out of it. For me this was my first animal print article of clothing that I have purchased. I have never been a fan of animal prints but I really like looking at the snow leopards when I visit the zoo-- combined with the styling of this jacket-- made it a must have for me.
"Thanks!" again to Julie for her fantastic review! :)

What are your thoughts on the Snow-leopard Peacoat? Do you already own this Peacoat? If so, please let us know what you think! :)

  1. I LOVE the styling of this jacket (would have snagged in another texture such as boucle or tweed) but thus am not a animal print fan. I should add...I do love animal prints for touches/accent pieces such as belt, handbag and shoes but feel like I would wear this once or twice and it would be SO noticeable it would equate to $150 per wearing:(
I know a lot of people bought and love it and that's what makes the world go round--great review!

JCREW bring this out in boucle or tweed-YUMMY!

  2. Julie: Thanks again for a fantastic review! I have to say that at first, I was not a big fan of the jacket. But when I zoomed-in on the design, I just loved it! I love the details that this jacket has: from the collar to the back belt (very reminiscent of the San Telmos- which I adore!). I am hoping that one of my local stores will carry this jacket for me to see in person soon. :)

  3. Hi again, it's me, Julie:) I agree with cover5. I had the same thoughts....if only this jacket was in a solid color or tweed even! Wow! But I loved the design so much I took the plunge and went with my first animal print! I do love it:)

  4. Yes, thanks for the great review! The fabric looks super soft to me, too, so it's nice to have a heads up that it might not be the case in person.

  5. Thanks for the fabulous review Julie! I think the coat is beautiful...congratulations. :)

  6. I absolutely love this coat! Thanks for the excellent review. Much appreciated! :)

  7. I tried it on last Saturday and loved it. Had to downsize to 2 instead of my usual 4, but it is a trend I have noticed going on with J crew sizing recently. I have to downsize in almost everything.
Anyway, I almost bought it, but got houndstooth boucle instead. Simone is definitely on my waitlist though. When my rewards come in, I think I'll splurge.

  8. Julie- Great review! I am waiting for the Simone to go down in price. However I did splurge on the Mettalic Houndstooth Clea jacket in buttercup. The jacket is tailored beautifully.

  9. Julia: thank you for the review.

I love this piece, but I'll take a chance on waiting for it to go on sale. I have far too many coats/jackets for my current geographic location...but the snow-leopard print is hard to pass up.

  10. Is this an indoor or outdoor jacket? Like, could I wear it to work and not look like I forgot to take my coat off?

  11. Just wanted to say that I love that you feature guest blogs/reviews. :) Keep it up!

  12. Molly,

I think you could wear it both ways.....it is boderline....I plan on wearing it both ways though....it is technically a blazer...or is listed that way at JCrew.

  13. Not a big fan of animal prints, but I like this jacket...it's stylish and almost more graphic print than animal, if that's possible. Thanks for the helpful review!

  14. I got it with the PS 20% discount off and returned it. I have a different opinion on sizing and the style. I found it true to size of a fitted blouse, which is a size 8 for me. I ordered the 6 and it's a tad too snug.

I loved the pattern, but unfortunately between the pattern and the double breasted style the jacket managed to make me look like I gained 10 pounds. I think it looks better on a size 0 to 4.

Still trying to find a piece with the snow leopard pattern that will actually look good on me.

  15. Anoy@4:15--Thanks for your opinion. It is good to hear how others feel about the jacket.

I am a size 10 and it looks great on me...at least that is what I think, my DH, and friends:)

  16. I'm not a fan of this. Maybe it's just because of the fact that I'm a guy, but I find these sorts of prints way too much. In fact I think it makes the wearer look unnecessarily old.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wanted to say I agreed with anon at 4:15. I had the same experience. And I ordered an 8. Perhaps with the pattern and the double breasted it doesn't work well on the boobalicious?

  18. Julie: thanks for your review. I would love to own this peacoat, but will have to wait for several markdowns. Maybe I'll get lucky and there will still be some around in my size when that happens, although it looks like it's going online. I wish my b&m had it in so I could see it in person. Maybe with their next roll out this week.

Does anyone have item: 94251 French-stripe tie jacket in sale section?
I don't know if old but I thought it very cute and ordered it on sale this weekend--waitlistd until Nov 4. Isn't that weird to have a FS item waitlisted?? It wasn't low QTY either--the CSR said they have a lot--just not until Nov 4--hmm I don't get it.
Anyone know anything about this one?

  20. I am SOOOO jealous that you got this jacket!!! I too was watching it online and couldn't decide if I wanted to spring for it (I had already ordered way too much... and my berry astrid was on its way) so I waited and then changed my mind too late- it is sold out in everything over a size 8! I am a 12 and sometimes a 14 depending on the cut. I have done 'we will find it' 2x with no luck:(
    Enjoy!

ps if anyone finds one in a 12 or 14 please post as I am even more interested after this review.

I have the french stripe jacket and love it! Actually wore it today. It is a great transition item. How odd that they have stuff in FS that is wait listed?? how about making more of the Snow Leopard coat?

  22. anon at 8:35PM - That could be - I am a little too blessed in the chest department, and petite to boot (5' 2"). I got the Lucille, which is also double breasted, but it doesn't make me look as wide. It's a pity, because I liked the collar on this peacoat.

I guess I'll have to wait until J Crew recycle this style with another fabric, perhaps at the outlet. BTW, the dani coat at the outlet is also now marked down.

I have a snow leapord simone in size 14 that I think I am going to return. I am a lady of "a certain age" -- ok, late 30s, and I just don't know if I can pull it off :). I am happy to sell it to you for my cost ($260 + tax) and $6 to ship. Otherwise I will most likely return it. Let me know if you are interested.

  25. I am a 34B so I can't comment on how this works for bustier ladies...

I can comment that this has sold out in the larger sizes so it must be working for many women:)who wear 10, 12, 14. I wear an 8 in JCrew tops but I always buy 10's in jackets. Normally, people do size up in jackets. I know Alexis either created a post on this or it has been discussed at great length in the past...

Also, I am not afraid to say I am 39 years old (although people say I look 5-7 years younger:)and I think anyone in their 20's, 30's and 40's, etc. can wear this jacket. It is a very classic style in my opinion with an unique collar:)

I only bought two items in Sept. This jacket and the plum astrid which should arrive today or tomorrow. That is all I really wanted to update my JCrew wardrobe after buying a TON of Fall/Winter 2007 items:)

  29. Thanks for posting this review--I think the print is pretty.

  30. I can't wait to try it on...Looks like it's one of those items...not so great in picture, but great when one wears it in person! This reminds me of the Lucia (?) jacket that had also an animal print in white and brown...I would have never chosen it on the racks, but saw a lady try it on in the store, and how pretty I thought!

  31. suggestion for next product review or if anyone has tried this in stores yet:
city tee cardigans, cotton jersey, with either the chiffon or grosgrain bow. ($55, #97646R; http://tinyurl.com/54mbla) -- does this basically feel like a t-shirt, or is it more substantial?

    ReplyDelete
  32. eeps - the city tee cardigan is a lot more substantial in weight than a regular tee. It's heavier than most merino wool cardigans.

I think the style is quite cute, but it's still on the casual side. I found the length to be a little short, so returning the medium size I got in exchange for the large.

  33. Thanks for the amazing & detailed review. I've been eying this jacket for awhile and now I think I might take the plunge and order!

  34. Thanks to all for the nice compliments on my review. I do hope it helped:)

  35. Only sizes 0, 2 and 6 are left in this peacoat. There are only 6 left in the size 6.
