A big "thank you!" to Lesley who shared with us J.Crew's latest email (click here). They are offering an in-store only private sale for suiting with 20% off. Click here to print out the email (with a bar code) to shop at the stores. This offer expires 10/5/08.
Do you think you will take advantage of this offer this weekend? Is there a current suit that J.Crew offers that you are a big fan of? Which J.Crew suits are you not a fan of? :)
I do not have a need for suits so I cannot comment but had a question for all of you "old timers"out there:)

What have I won on Ebay?

I hope I love this as much as I think--does anyone have this, remember it, does it fit well/true to size, is it like the Bella? Thanks so much for any feedback!
I received this e-mail at my yahoo address. In general, I've been getting much more e-mail from J.Crew in the last few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI switched to that address because mass J.Crew e-mails never got through to my comcast e-mail address--I could only receive order confirmations, credit card statements, and so forth. I'd checked all the spam filters and inbox settings and never figured out what was wrong.
So imagine my surprise when out of the blue I received the other private sale e-mail at my comcast address.
As for the suiting sale, ordinarily I pick up a couple of suits this time of year but I need to cool it this month to make up for all the suiting I bought last month (with a 20% PS coupon). I'm interested in the Astrid suit in Sweet Potato but since it's a frivolous piece for me I'll probably wait for a better markdown. And of course, please consider me to have inserted my usual rant about prices being better for store customers.
Hexicon,
ReplyDeleteI was going to post this in the gloves link, but since you're on here...Have you ever seen Gigi? It's one of my favorite movies, and I was just watching it last night. Late in the movie, right after Gaston (the very handsome Louis Jourdan) realizes he's in love with Gigi, they're out at dinner, and he gives her a bracelet which she puts on over her ... opera gloves :-) Leslie Caron, of course, looks divine - but then I suspect she'd have looked great in a potato sack, too. She's right up there with
Audrey Hepburn in my book.
Also, as I mentioned elsewhere, I've become a fan of Carla Bruni's style in recent months, since she became Mrs. Nicholas Sarkozy.
la belle helene, I watched Gigi last night, too! I loved her opera gloves. :) (I loved her whole look in that scene in general; Leslie Caron is gorgeous.)
ReplyDeletelaura1, isn't it a fab movie? I can watch it over and over and over. I adore Maurice Chevalier, too. The fashions are so great - I love the dress Gigi wears when Gaston takes her out to Maxims, and the dress and hat she wears at the very end. Too bad women don't wear hats any more... :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I second the motion that this offer is discriminatory to those of us who wear petite sizes (and those wear tall, too), since stores don't carry those sizes. At least my stores don't. So thanks for nothing, J.Crew.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a need for suits, either, so I won't be taking advantage of this coupon. :)
ReplyDeleteI won't be using it...I hardly ever wear suits anymore...
ReplyDeleteanon@10& la bella helene: Add my vote for Jcrew carrying petite sizes in the stores! My PS said that he agree Jcrew should carry petite sizes in the stores. However, it's us customers that corporate will listen to, so we should all write and tell Jcrew what we want!
Of course, the stores can always order it for you over the phone, but many times the satisfaction of shopping comes from having the item right then and there!
Interesting that there's a coupon now -- I bought a suit in-store two weeks ago and was told that all suits were 20% off, although there was no signage and not even all of the employees were aware of it! No coupon was needed.
ReplyDeleteAnon and LBH, you are so right about how unfair this is to those who wear petite, as well as to those who can't get to B&M. If the store isn't already offering the 20%, I wonder if they would honor on the Red Phone.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen "Gigi"--will have to add to Netflix.
I like Carla Bruni too--I saw her on a newsmagazine show and was not expecting to like her, but she was utterly charming.
My B&M does not carry suiting. Boo!
ReplyDeleteHmmm I was thinking about a new suit so maybe. Though that would ruin my no more shopping until October--- but this is good through October 5--- so i think I can last ;)
ReplyDeleteI'd like to 3rd (or is it fourth now?) that motion for Petites in stores! BR, Ann Taylor, AT Loft, Talbots, Nordstrom, Saks, etc. do it. J crew should too! I hate not having the option to try it on before I buy it. Sometimes a regular may even fit better, but I need to have the option and be able to compare.
ReplyDeleteBooooo J Crew...another Petite Woman here!!
ReplyDeleteURGH! Just called J Crew and their internal system is down. They told me to do my order online instead. URGH!
ReplyDeleteI've tried on the suits in person and haven't been impressed. I'm not trying them on in Petite, though, since they're not in the stores. I imagine if you called CS, they would honor the 20%. At least I'd hope.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried on J.Crew suits, so I do not know how they fit. I am Petite, and frustrated that I cannot try them on first before ordering online... J.Crew should carry Petites in-store! On a side note, Ann Taylor is having an extra 25% off all sale items (online & in-store), no coupon necessary, automatically applied. You can stack a 20% off purchase of $150+ (including free shipping) with code 10801498. I bought a great fire engine red skirt suit for $120!
ReplyDeleteMarietta, I LOVE code stacking...JCrew, are you listening....Also, if JCrew is having this big update why can't we enter more than one gift card and/or rewards card at a time...what a pain to HAVE to call in when online is much quicker...LLBean has this feature. Why can't JCrew update their site for the better?
ReplyDeleteI ordered two petite size 0 suits & I was quite happy with both. I ordered the wool crepe 2-button (in charcoal) and wool gabardine (in dark slate). I expected dark slate to be grey, but it's so dark, it's almost black. Unfortunately I'm borderline petite, and I wish I could order regular-length pants, but a regular 0 was WAY too big.
ReplyDeleteI live in Canada, nowhere near any jcrew stores. I ended up ordering extra pants in various sizes & in doing a return of thos pants that didn't fit, I had to pay my credit card company an extra $50 in the difference on the exchange (ie. I bought at 1.088% & got a refund at 1.010%). Sucks.
Can't remember which thread mentioned the lydia - I got the watercolor lydia and promptly returned it.
ReplyDeleteI am in the minority where I found this blouse doesn't fit me well. I have round sloping shoulders and it just doesn't look right on me. The length of the blouse can be a few inches longer too.
In-store only coupons tweak me because I am also petite, and I live an hour from a B&M. I would recommend calling the B&M nearest to ahead of time and speaking to the manager. Ask if they will assist you in purchasing suiting in petites using the red phone and if they will ask the CS on the red phone to honor the 20% coupon. I did this when I bought my Tuesday trench a few months ago using the in-store only 20% website apology coupon. The CS I was working with agreed to do it, but grudgingly, which is why I recommend you call ahead and clear it with the manager.
ReplyDeleteI won't be buying suits this time around, as I already have several pair of wool gab trousers and don't wear the jackets in my job. (Can I use the jacket discount on some cardigans?) Good luck!
Fashionista Social Worker
Wow, I seem to be finding several threads to comment on today. So here goes...
ReplyDeleteI buy suiting from jcrew frequently. In fact, I'd say about 70% of my "serious" work-wear is from jcrew along with almost my entire "possible job interview" outfits. In fact, I've had a few of my students borrow jcrew accessories & (when possible) jackets etc. for interviews of their own. Somewhere in the world, a proud parent has a few snaps of his daughter - my student- all dressed up for an interview at the Japanese consulate in S.F. I'm not certain if the clothes helped her get the position, however the boost in self-confidence didn't hurt.
I work at a Uni near the Monterey Bay off the coast of CA. As you can imagine, there aren't a lot of shops around here that provide professional wear. Almost all of the local stores are for the tourists &/or students. Sweatshirts & beachwear aren't quite up to the dress code in my workplace. Also, the nearest jcrew B&M is over an hour drive away. So I don't get to go as often as I'd like. To make matters worse, I'm a petite & suffer the same woes as my sisters in daintiness.
Anywho, on to the good stuff... Jcrew's suiting is, in my opinion, worth the trouble. The fabric & tailoring are always quite good & the fit is usually reliable. I think there is enough variation from season to season (I still have skirts with two back vents instead of a single slit) that you can build a very respectable core work wardrobe. I haven't had as much luck as I'd like with the jackets/blazers but am always quite happy with the skirts & trousers. I usually run about a P6 in most things, so I try a reg4 when I'm in the B&M & use the red phone to order my selections. Also, when ordering online, the codes on this site have certainly knocked down my shipping costs ;}
Another plus with my particular B&M is that they have a decent tailor for those hem adjustments. I prefer to request an alteration tag & speak to the tailor directly when possible. I've found I get more desirable results that way than having the store associate chalk the changes. That said, I still don't feel confident taking blouses over to be fitted. I just stick with the few petite shirting styles that work for me (Kelly & slim stretch esp) & update when new colours come my way. I admit I'm terribly disappointed the they've discontinued the petite sweater offerings as they are a much better option than the "shrunken" styles.
As for the discount, like aviva, I had heard something about the 20% off in store about a week ago. I guess it's all about communicating with the store associates. Both by the customer & from the jcrew higher ups. On the plus side, I've found that most of the cs folks on the phone are willing to honour discounts. I'll admit it's not as helpful when you'd like to try stuff on but it does help when you're working with new colours / patterns on a familiar style. Oh, & asking for the measurements help.
So, my .05 cents worth (adj for inflation) is that the suiting is a good option. When it's on sale -- it's a great option. Now if I could just get the petite sweaters back!
Thanks for reading,
HeatherD
P.S. I thought the Gigi fans in the audience might like to know that Audrey Hepburn played Gigi in the stage adaptation of the book. The author, Colette, discovered her & said she was perfect for the part. However, the studio decided to go with Leslie Caron in the movie with good results. Given her character, I don't think Audrey minded. Although it is ironic that she was picked for the movie version of My Fair Lady over the stage Eliza, Julie Andrews. That's show business I guess :]
I used to love getting these coupons, because being the shopaholic that I am, I would buy 1 jacket, 1 pair of pants in Regular (to wear with flats) and 1 in Tall (to wear with heels). About 80% of my suits are J. Crew and I've been doing this for years.
ReplyDeleteBut now that I'm an employee, I just use our generous discount!!! Love it.
No more suits for me-- I just bought the prima wool for $65 (on super sale) and the super 120s for about $180, but has anyone tried their suiting dresses?
ReplyDeleteThey had the tailored wool Carrie at my store but I didn't like the fabric; it just hung on me and looked kind of cheap. I'm curious about the wool gabardine-- I have a black w.g. suit-- but it's not my favorite fabric although I love the back of it-- and the super 120s, it's my favorite suit fabric and it's kind of Mad Men chic, but I'm afraid it'd look costume-y on me.
I got this as a postcard from my fave J. Crew store :-) I felt loved!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I have plenty of suits, can't make mondays anyway AND they don't carry my size in the store (16 pants). Oh well!
I don't understand, why would the super 120s suiting look costumey?
ReplyDeleteI have the super 120's suit and I like it. I just wish that Jcrew would line their pants! For their prices, you would think they would come lined. But their skirts are fully lined.. why the difference?
ReplyDeleteMy nearest Jcrew store is tiny and doesn't carry suits. It always looks picked over, and doesn't have much merchandise. The nearest Jcrew store w/suiting is about an hour away, but it's too much of a hassle, I'd rather buy online. So while I'd like to use the coupon, I probably won't ;)
I think Audrey meant the super 120s dress might look costume-y. I own many, many J.Crew suiting dresses and am an enthusiastic fan.
ReplyDeleteThis year's super 120s suiting dress in the violet (#96109) is really cute, and I have it, but there is certainly a 60s feel to it (my husband originally said Joan Holloway and changed his mind to stewardess, neither of which is bad in his book). The problem with this dress is the fit is bad--most posters seem to agree. I tried a 6, 6P, and 4 before settling on the 4. I will still have to have it altered quite a bit. I'm putting up with that only because of the beautiful color.
I also got the wool gab elbow-sleeve dress. Fit on that one was a little short (it's the same as the spring sleeveless super 120s dress), so I got 6R in black.
You can get very good deals on last year's wool suiting dresses on eBay.
Hexicon: I am happy to hear you are getting more J.Crew emails! :)
ReplyDeleteAviva: That is very interesting that the stores had this promotion without the coupon already. Congrats on getting your suit with the additional percent off! :)
I have a few J.Crew suits and think they're well-tailored. On the wool suits, the 120s, i guess, i wish they would put lining in the pants. I never buy pants in these lines for that reason. Too itchy.
ReplyDeleteOk -- so finally tried on the Super 120s tonite. *sigh* I loved the jacket! I am convinced I'd need the Petite for it to fit in the shoulders. Couldn't find the pants to try on. I don't need a suit right now, but it's something to consider for the future.
ReplyDeleteMy size (16) and height range (tall) are not carried in the store either. I have several j.crew suits, but can only buy their skirt suits because they make 14 and 14 tall but 16 and no 16 tall pant(for some odd reason).
ReplyDeleteI actually got so annoyed with my limited suit options this year (not liking BR and AT suits so much, even though they carry my size) that I splurged on a custom-made suit. Actually it was $700, so not too much more than a full priced j.crew suit.

How do you all wear your suits? Obviously you can wear them as an entire suit, or a jacket with jeans, but I'm looking to get more versatility out of them. Suggestions?
ReplyDeleteYes, sorry for the confusion, I was talking about the suiting dresses.
ReplyDeleteHexicon- The super 120s dress in royal violet is the one that I've been eyeing... I think the color is gorgeous! I'm going to wait to see if it goes on further sale.
Audrey, I don't know whether you're hard to fit, but I would suggest you try the super 120s dress at a B&M if possible before ordering. Even though it says online only, it was available in black at the two B&M nearest me (Seattle PP and Bellevue).
ReplyDeleteMost people say they've been taking a full size down. I'm right on the border of P and R so I had an additional complication. In general, the fit is large, esp. in the torso, but the petite was way too skimpy (skirt was too short and if I raised my arms hem went up to fanny). Actually, I'm taking the 4 R to my tailor this a.m.
I sometimes wonder if J.Crew is enamored of possible fanny exposure...I loved their wool felted minis from last fall and the plaid ones from the holidays, but at 16 inches, they were just entirely too short. Ditto for the silk pop-on minis they have right now. It's too bad, too, because I'd have bought several in every style if they'd just been a few inches longer. Alas, I also have a job & life in general wherein fanny exposure isn't practical :-)
ReplyDeleteAnon at 6:08, if there is a suiting color or cut that I really like and is a good price, sometimes I will get the whole set--jacket, skirt, pants, and dress. Most often I wear a suit jacket over a sleeveless suiting dress. If I have a day with low-key meetings, sometimes I wear a structured cardigan over one of the dresses.
ReplyDeleteAs I posted in Molly's blog, I really don't like traditional blouses--reminds me of when I was first starting out. If I'm wearing a skirt or pants with a jacket, I prefer to wear a cashmere T or shell. A lot of women in my office wear pantsuits, and I do sometimes, but even accounting for nylons (or sometimes Spanx) I find dresses or skirt suits to be more comfortable and flattering for me. (They say the legs are the last to go.)
IMHO most of the plain wool suiting jackets aren't the kind of jackets that would look good with jeans. But if I got the Astrid in Sweet Potato I would wear it with jeans.
At certain times of year my work is very stressful with insane hours, so it's hard to plan outfits, yet ironically those are the times in which I'm most in the public eye (sorry, not trying to make myself sound important--I'm sure the "public" in question is not large). I find that during these times it's nice to wear the sleeved suiting dresses. I can just throw one on, maybe add a necklace, and that's it--no worrying about matching outfit, belt, top, etc.
I tried mixing a suit at work yesterday--black Abby jacket, chocolate gab pants, black/brown/camel leopard top. Not sure that it was a success.
I am supposed to be working on a journal article right now but would much rather be posting here. :-)
Heh, LBH, as I mentioned in my last post, they say the legs are the last to go. If I can find age-appropriate minis (is that an oxymoron?) I will wear them . . . .but I did just donate some of my late 90s Ally McBeal 16" suiting skirts.
ReplyDeleteI just got the super 120s Abby jacket :-) Haven't worn it yet (too hot) but it seems very versatile - I briefly tried it on with jeans, and really liked how that looked. Held it up against some skirts, too, and thought it would work well.
ReplyDeleteSorry for multiple posts, but just one more--
ReplyDeleteLa Belle Helene, Carla Bruni is featured in this months' Marie Claire, the one with Lindsay Lohan [gag] on the cover.
hexicon, even a great pair of legs, I believe, look more elegant in skirts that hit at the knee than mid-thigh or above :-) At that length, I suspect, the question also becomes a matter of just what line of work the woman is in... :-)
ReplyDeleteHexicon - thanks! I just got that issue yesterday. Just finished making my way through September Elle, which for some inexcusable reason decided to put Jessica Simpsom on the cover.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen Mean Girls? That movie is a guilty pleasure for me - Tina Fey, of course, is hilarious, and Rachel McAdams wonderful as the mean queen bee. But a much younger and innocent Lohan is also terrific - which is why it's so sad to see how she's derailed.
Yes, I liked "Mean Girls" and "Freaky Friday" a lot, and I even thought she was good in "Georgia Rule," but usually MC tries to put someone with a little substance on the cover. They should have used Carla Bruni!
ReplyDeleteRe super 120s violet dress--
ReplyDeleteJust got back from the tailor's. A lot of Aficionadas have reported fit problems with this dress. As I described above, I tried three sizes (4R, 6R, 6P) and none really fit properly, though I kept the 4R.
The tailor said that the problem with this dress is that the bodice is longer in the back than in the front. Sometimes this is done deliberately, as in some of the sacque-back dresses worn in the 50s (think Deborah Kerr) but here it does not appear to be entirely part of the design. If you look at the fit in the back view on the model, you can see that the back blouses very slightly, but the waistband does not sag.
So, for $50 I'm having the waistband raised in the back and the waist taken in at back and sides. Some of this could be me of course (due to small waist I usually need $20 of alteration in waist or darts) but after reading the other posts I think there is a fit problem with this dress.
Again, I love, love the color, so I'm putting up with it. I will probably send a letter to J.Crew about it.
I adore J. Crew suits -- especially when they are on sale. They are a tremendous value, since it has become more challenging to find wool suits. Many stores, BR and several department store brands included, have been selling more poly-blend and unlined suits.
ReplyDeleteOver the years, the J.Crew's suiting skirts and pants have been separates staples. I am currently on the "job market" after several years. So I am definitely in the process of refreshing my collection of suits for interviews, networking events, and hopefully a new job!
I like the 120s -- I have a suiting dress and am waiting for the Abby jacket + skirt. I was surprised by how light the fabric is, but it looks and feels great and drapes nicely.
Question: Has anyone else noticed that the jacket shoulders tend to run narrow and been obliged to order a size up?
Suggestion: I saw the wool herringbone suits in a store recently. The fabric is lovely. This suit is definitely a contender for this coupon.
Anon @ 10:14: i definitely find that jackets run small in the shoulder. Funny thing, a CS affirmed this in a discussion yesterday (while placing an order), saying customers can even find the shoulders tight.
ReplyDeleteI attribute the fit to two reasons: 1) J.Crew jackets stylistically have a narrower measure in the shoulders than other brands i wear, and 2) little if any stretchy material (spandex) makes up the fabric of the suit. With no "give," i tend to notice any constriction. I have only found recently that they've added a bit of stretch, mainly in the lining, though a few suits in the outer material.
It think J.Crew is very much going for the svelte look. For me, I frequently find myself having to go up a size, which, unfortunately, makes the bodice area a little too wide but better accommodates my shoulders and shirts.
Hexicon, you commented on the length of the Super 120s sleeveless suiting dresses previously (that they were shorter than what you normally prefer) - I also bought these dresses and noted the same - they hit me at the top of the kneecap which is a bit higher than i normally like (especially when I am sitting down)
ReplyDeleteHow did the length on those dresses compare to this one?
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=330269975855
(spring 3/4 sleeve suiting dress)
Also - re the royal violet dress that you do have in the Super 120s - what is teh colour like IRL? And is this another "shorter" dress i.e. where does it hit you at the knee, or slightly above?
thanks again!!
I totally agree about sizing, I bought several abby jackets to go on top of my sleeveless suiting dresses and while my super 120s 3 button jackets are a size 12R (and to be honest I think i could have taken a 14 but I'm busty and was worried a size up would be too baggy everywhere else) - i took an 8 in this jacket. I called in for measurements before purchasing and that's how i knew to size down. In my regular size it would have been HUGE....
I highly recommend the super 120s material as well...it drapes very well..I don't like that the pants are unlined but am living with it b/c i do love the suits :) First time I have seen a 3 button suit with a lower stance which is what I need...Very flattering!
Hexicon- Thanks for all the reviews on the super 120s dress!
ReplyDeleteAs for the Abby jacket (90878), I actually had it but sold it on eBay. It's as A. mentioned: the fit is big. I found it at one size down at really good price in a store, but I probably could've done 2 sizes down... I wanted to like it because the material is soft and smooth, but the fit was really unflattering on me... I have a straight up-down figure with a high waist, so the cropped shape did nothing for me.
As for versatility with the suits, I agree with suggestions to buy the whole set (if financially feasible): jacket, pants, skirt. I get them in the staple colors: black, navy, gray; then stripes. I'm not really into mixing suits... I think the "standard" advice is to keep it to the same weave family and, really, just do what looks good to you... but I will wear the solid color jackets over a suit dress or even sometimes a less formal dress-- but you have to watch the proportions (and perhaps the environment of your office). Most recently, I wore the watercolor Madison (96102) with a fitted navy blazer (that I actually got from Target for $10) and faked myself a waist with a belt.
I know that isn't really the newest advice, but I tend to think of my suits as basics and what I wear underneath (top) or "around" (shoes, accessories) as what'll make them new from day to day.
A,
ReplyDeleteI think the dress on eBay looks longer than the super 120s sleeveless, but of course it's hard to say for sure. I am 5'4" and usually wear a 6P in slim dresses and a 4P in A-line or full skirted dresses. 90% of the time the P is the better fit in terms of where the waistband and dart apex hit.
In the super 120s sleeveless, the waist hit me too high in 6P--even though I think a slightly higher waist is intended (as with, e.g., the Janey dress) the waist was up on the ribcage, and the skirt was too short. (I kept b/c final sale) Since the fall wool gab dress was the same dress only with sleeves, I ordered a 6R, which had to be taken in a lot in the torso.
I ordered a couple of last year's suiting dresses on eBay and they were a flattering knee length, as was this year's wool gab dress.
In the super 120s violet, the skirt was really short in the petite. As you can see from the model the skirt is above the knee, but it was way too short in the P.
Audrey,
I was so disappointed in the Abby jacket. I waited *forever* for it to go on sale. I was hoping for very femme vintage look, but contrary to the description, there was no shaping to it--very boxy and as you say hits at the wrong spot. Tailoring options were limited because of the pockets. I had the tailor do what she could and I wear it open instead of buttoned.
Cleo, I agree that the shoulders on J.Crew suiting suit jackets seem small--though they're fine in the dresses. I bought a Lady Day coat on final sale in 6P and the shoulders are *tiny* though I haven't had that problem with other coats.
P.S. A,
ReplyDeleteI think the violet is as pictured. It is a medium bright but not neon purple. It is a true, cool purple--not at all magenta-- but it is not a blue-purple like the Regal Purple Joelle, for example. Also less dark than the Joelle.
It would look great with those azalea Pepper heels if I'd got them when I had the chance.
The Royal Violet 120 dress is on promotion right now for $135.00 (regular $180). To order on-line, you need to go to the Petites page. Is not on the suiting or the dresses page.
ReplyDeleteI have this dress. Hexicon's description is right on. The royal violet is beautiful and bold but no cartoonish. The 120 fabric and color really makes this a 3-seasons dress.
She is also right about the sizing; you may want to size down to get the best fit and avoid the petite sizes if your right around 5'-4" or are not comfortable with a lot of leg being exposed.
The dress will have to be on a far better promo for me to be interested, since from all accounts it sounds like there'll be quite a bit of tailoring involved.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of the guidance on the suiting dresses...in the regular size Hexicon, did the Violet dress still hit you above your knee cap? And are this years fall/winter suiting dresses a bit longer than the spring dresses (i.e. do they truly hit at the knee as jcrew claims or slightly above?)
ReplyDeleteI did end up bidding on the Super 130s 3/4 sleeve dress, I really like the cut of this one and hope it works for me (otherwise it'll end up on noe of the Monday "weekly exchanges" lol)
Thanks again for everybody's help!
Hi again,
ReplyDeleteSo I went over to my B&M this weekend & used the suiting discount with no trouble at all. In fact, my lovely sales associate applied my educator discount as well (since I was in store) so I got a very good deal (hurrah for jcrew sales staff!)
So the end result of a buy-binge = two new skirts & a red phone order for a third skirt (coupon applied at SA's request) as well as two new blouses. Total work wardrobe upgrade includes:
Eggplant Kelly shirt- 91824
Plum Slim stretch shirt - 87773
Black Wool herringbone skirt-95190
Grey Donegal tweed skirt -96444
Grey Super 120 pinstripe skirt 90798
Chiffon Rosette Belts - 98098
Admittedly, the belts weren't included as a suiting item. However, they were in the sale section & the B&M had an in store sale going on for those items. In the end, the belts were $9.99 ea! It's was one of those finds were I look around for someone to share it with - realise I'm alone & grab more :} I walked away with several colours including a few that aren't online. I plan on sharing with a friend that teacher at a sister Uni. Thankfully, she's down in SoCal, so I won't have to worry about both of us wearing one on the same day. I've recv'd so many compliments on the peacock blue / cloud grey belt that I already own... I can't wait to make it my "signature look".
I consider the skirts a bit of a find as well. Although the B&M doesn't carry petites (wah!) they do carry suiting so I got to see the items in the fabric. Tried the 120s pinstripoe & loved the fabric & styling. So soft & refined! I ended up ordering the petite from the red phone with no trouble. However, I'm glad I saw the herringbone on the hanger as I was a little worried about the pockets. I don't much care for extra bulk in that area - I prefer to keep my keys etc. in my bag instead on on my hips. Still the side seams lie flat, so I'll just leave them sewn shut & it will be as if they aren't there. As for the tweed, it's much more stylish in person. The fabric is in a nice med weight without appearing to be too stiff or nubbly as some tweeds do. Also, I like the little details such as a slimmer waistband, buttons on the side & a side vent. Luckily, the slit is well placed as I intend to have both skirts hemmed. I've found both of these styles fit well for petites if you size down & hem up.
Now I just have to wait for the blouses to come in the post & we're all set to greet the new school year in style!
Good luck & happy hunting,
