J.Crew Stores: Additional 20% 0r 40% Off Sale?

Many of you have mentioned receiving J.Crew's latest email announcing the additional 20% off online (with promo code EXTRA20) and in-stores. However, as mentioned in Wednesday's post ("J.Crew Stores: 40-50% Off Final Sale {yey!}"), the additional percent off in most stores is 40%. Many of you have raised an excellent question about which "additional percent off" stores are offering this weekend. Unfortunately, I am not sure if all (or some) stores will reduce the additional percent from 40% to 20% off this weekend.

P.S. I just got this email today. I realize emails are sent in batches, but its too bad J.Crew can't send out time sensitive emails a bit earlier (or send them all on the day the promotion begins).

Which additional percent off (20% or 40%) do you think stores will offer? Is your local J.Crew offering the additional 20% or 40% final sale? Did you receive this email yet? :)

  1. I can't find where I made my original post - but Alexis *thank you* so much for the poll on the winter coat fabrics! I really appreciate it!!

  2. Kristin: No need to thank me- it was a great idea! :) I also thanked you for the great poll suggestion in the "Be Back Soon... I Remember You! ;)" post. :)

  3. I got the 20% off email yesterday but was wondering the same thing about the 40% off announced on Wednesday. I am about to go to my b&m store (in Memphis, TN) to find out for myself since I didn't see an answer posted anywhere on the blog yet. Will report back later!

  4. I got the email today, but I knew about the 40% off from you all. I went to a B&M store today and they had 40% off all sale. but- there were a couple of things for sale on the website that weren't marked down in the store. On one item- the dream open cardigan- I knew it was marked down on the site and I had the salesperson double check and she still said it wasn't on sale. I called the courtesy phone and they gave me the sale price of 99.99, plus 40% off, and free shipping- I got it for $59- which is over half the original price of $138.00. I wish the pricing was more consistent. If the phone/catalog matches 40% off- why don't they just offer that on the website?

  5. I have a question, and I know that you all have gone over this before, but I'mn still confused. I know that you can use the red phone in the B&M stores to order. But when can you use the phone and get an extra percentage off? If it is on sale in the store (say this weekend and 40 or 20 percent off) and not on the Web site? Or if it is on sale on the web site and not in the store, can you use the phone and get an extra percentage off an item in the store? Thank you for any help you can offer. Oh -- and when I went to the Orland Park, Ill., store Thursday after reading about the extra 40 percent off, one of the lovely people who work there kindly told me that they never know when those sales will happen, or how long they will last. Apparently they just get an e-mail in the morning and then the sale starts. And one last thing, I want to say hi to Elizabeth from the Orland Park store -- she's great, and I know she reads this blog!!!! It's me, your customer from Joliet ...

  6. Just got back from the Menlo Park Mall J Crew in Edison, NJ. Their final sale is 50% off! Hot diggity! And, they have several heather silver soiree jackets in their store. I ordered two things over the phone since I'm tall, and they applied the 50% off to those. Also agreed to let me return some shoes if they don't fit. Today was a good day.

  7. I just got back and my b&m still had 40% off. I bought the cord pencil skirt in gray (this is my 3rd one!), two chiffon belts, and a headband. I also used the red phone to order the chino cooper jacket in british khaki, and she let me have the 40% off. My store didn't have much left, just odds and ends. Although, they did have plenty of tees and green cords. I tried on the cashmere femme sweater, and while it was flattering on my waist, it made my already large chest look larger. I was so disappointed b/c I wanted to love this sweater.

  8. I received this email yesterday but haven't called to check what's going on at my B&M...everything that I have really wanted isn't even available at my store, so it's just not worth the trip to the mall for me at this point. On another note...I totally agree that time sensitive emails really should be sent out earlier, too!

  9. I was in the Westchester Mall J Crew store in White Plains, NY yesterday and got 40% off sale merchandise--got some great deals!

    ReplyDelete
  10. math teacher: Congrats on your purchases! I love the cord skirt and the cooper jacket in khaki. Sorry the femme sweater didn't work for you. I also find it cut a little strangely, and gave it a pass.

    ReplyDelete
  11. vivian: Thanks for the congrats! I love the cord skirt, too (obviously, right? :D) I asked this on a different page, but I'll ask it here as well. Did you order a bella from JC? If you did, which color did you get? I would have ordered one this morning had they had my size. Also, did you decide to order the necklace with the gold flower? It looks so pretty online, although I didn't see it in my store today.

  12. I'll be going to the B&M in Norcross, Georgia tonight. Hopefully the smaller population that shops at that J.Crew will somehow lead to a 50% of men sale items! (I really hope so!)

    ReplyDelete
  13. vivian: I just saw your response about the bellas. Sorry they didn't have one in your size.

  14. If anyone happens to see the Seychelles necklace in their store, please let me know. I have a friend who likes this necklace and I would love to get it as a gift for her. TIA

  15. FYI on the bella jackets from last fall. I did a general search for jackets on eBay and came across a Bella that wasn't listed as a Bella (seller probably was not a JC Aficionada!! lol). I got a great deal on it and it is a regular Bella, not a factory store one. Yeah!! If you are looking on eBay, don't limit your search to just "J.Crew Bella", try all jackets in case the seller doesn't know the name and they just list it under regular jackets.

    ReplyDelete
  16. leslie: Great point! I saw that listing too - it just has a generic title - J.Crew jacket. It was not my size or I'd given you some competition:) Congrats on a great deal!

    ReplyDelete
  17. math teacher: congrats on your new goodies! The cord skirt is so flattering isn't it! I love it in the gray. Do you also have the honey glaze one?

    ReplyDelete
  18. JCrew must think online customers are eithers suckers or have more cash to burn.

I just cant reason the discrepancy in prices online and in stores. I could definitely accept it if a few items were on special sales in stores to generate foot traffic.

But when they have 40-50% off all sales and it is only 20% online, I feel like online customers are grossly disadvantaged.

I know alot of us have griped about this...but surely we need to do something to get some parity here.

    ReplyDelete
  19. weab: Yes, I have the honey glaze and the chocolate. I was glad that they had a gray one in my size, since they only had 2 in the store.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I've been wondering, what's the difference between items at the factory store and the regular store???

    ReplyDelete
  21. Vivian: I was so psyched to get it...AND at a great price. Yay! I'm glad you're not my size!!! LOL!!

  22. Just scored the cashmere rosette for $48!! It retailed for $188 and I recently started seeing it online again in the sale section after it had disappeared. Then I remembered that I saw it at the Reston store a couple of weeks ago when they opened (I only drove all the way out there to use the $25 grand opening coupon). I called over there to see if they had it. They had just recently received a shipment of them and were selling it for full price of $188!

I told them it had gone on sale online a while ago but they couldn't find the sale price because the online inventory ran out. So they called corporate and confirmed that the sale price was $79.99. Then, they gave me 40% off over the phone and I ended up getting it for $48. I told them to just ship it to my house -- the gas would cost me as much as shipping. Can't wait to wear it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sorry, my words got deleted above. I'm referring to the cashmere rosette cardigan in orange that I just scored for $48 - retailed for $188.

    ReplyDelete
  24. FYI: Sizes 2,6, 10, 12 are sold out in the PLUM Berry Astrid. Also, some sizes in gray as well but purple is the hot color:) Glad I got mine already in plum:)

    ReplyDelete
  25. OOPS, I meant 0 not 2--sorry.

  26. I want to share a happy J.Crew moment: I just got last fall's super 120s pinstripe flannel skirt and I LOVE IT!! Love it, love it, love it. It looks fab with a grey t-shirt, and with my 120s abby jacket.

Now I just need it to cool down enough for me to actually wear it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Simone Snowleopard Peacoat...there is a size 12 online...I think someone was looking for this size last week!

    ReplyDelete
  28. For anyone in the Memphis area, the Saddle Creek store is doing 40% off today. Their sale section was REALLY picked over, but there were tons of those chiffon belts for 9.99 (all colors).

    ReplyDelete
  29. 3-penny princess: congrats on the sweater and at such a great price, too. Is the color of your sweater "carrot" or a lighter orange? I found this sweater at a b&m in a light orange and am debating between the two colors.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Leslie: Is that the size 10 grey wool bella? I was planning to buy it for my mother. I had a fight with my mother in the morning of the day the auction ended. Therefore, when I was a little tired in the evening, I did not bid for it. Later I regret about that. You are so lucky!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Just a curiousity question. I have noticed several times that the B&M sale items are sometimes higher than the website sale. For example, I bought the Seize the Day tshirt for 24.99 plus 40%, but the website had it for 19.99 with 20% off. Obviously, I got better deal, plus not having to pay shipping. I noticed this before when I have shopped, and I wondered if others have seen this too.

  32. La Belle Helene, re the super 120s skirt, what is the length on that skirt, i.e. does it hit you at the knee or above? I was considering purchasing thep encil skirts to go with my suiting jackets but was worried that they would be too short (I prefer them slightly lower than my knee)
    Thanks!
ps. it was extra 40% off in buffalo (walden galleria)

    ReplyDelete
  33. i just got back from the buffalo walden galleria store, drove 3 hours to get there, but i think it was worth it, got the vintage boatneck, ABSOLUTELYVE LOVE IT! anotehr item that i felt head over heels for was the ruffle henley! OMG! the fit is sooo gorgeous and the cotton is heavenly!!!! I WANT IT IN EVERY COLOR NOW! i'm typically and xs and got my usual size, and just love it, i'm actually wearing it right now, don't want tot ake it off. IT MAKES A GREAT PIECE TO BE WORN BY ITSELF OR LAYERED UNDERNEATH A CARDI! i think everyone needs to go and get themselves one of those!
another item i loved and ended up ordering online was the rhubarb ecole jacket! I'M THE ANON THAT GOT THE SZ 0 CHARCOAL BELLA JACKET but didn't like how it fits, but the ecole jkt fits soo nice, the pink/rhubarb color si very refreshing and femine! the color was so gorgeous in person! didn't like how the velvet fit but the herringbone was great, i would definitely get the charcoal too when it goes on sale. the sale selection was surprisingly good at walden store, they had alot of tees and blue belle skirt and the cirle dress? the new one in the oct. catalogue? i tried it on, while i loved the print but it was big on me in the sz 0. tried on the felicia coat also, and sooo LOVING IT! WILL definitely be buying this piece too. sorry, i just couldn't hold my excieemtn, cuz i didn't expect to fall in love with all these pieces and i did. i also picked up the metallic bow belt, which is just adorable and on sale for $9.99 at that store and they had plenty in all three colors. also picked up a pair of flipflops for 19.99 less 40% of course.
    irene

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh but my buy of the day was the Metallic Leather bow belt in gold metallic - for $9.99 less 40% making it $6!!! It is $29.99 on the web and they only have pale gold...the buffalo store had it in silver, marigold and pale gold. Also, I bought 2 of the "Cotton-Lawn Parker blouse" which doesn't appear to be online yet. Beautiful! It is an elbow length sleeve collarless blouse with a front bow and lots of vertical pleats...I bought it in plum and a dark slate colour....will look great under my Super 120s sleeveless suiting dresses for work for a different look vs. wearing the dresses alone! And the plum colour is beautiful!

And, since I know I love reading reviews of items tried on I thought I'd offer some for the items I tried on today

Marcella blouse - nice and worth it for the sale price ($49.99 less 40% off) but in buffalo, they only had the orange in my size and holy cow it is bright!! made me look like a halloween pumpkin. The moss colour is gorgeous and the one I would have bought had they had it in my size.

Sleeveless jersey tops - I thought I would love these but they were just too big and too long - I tried on a M (and normally wear a L in Jcrew) but the armholes were too big, you could see my bra! So no go for me. In buffalo they were $19.99 less 40% off.

Tierney capri sandals - they had them in gold/silver! I wanted these all summer and they had them in my size, $19.99 less 40%, not bad!

Berry Astrid Jacket - this store had the charcoal in a size 12 and various sizes of the blue and plum. Didn't like it on me, a bit boxy and the arms were v loose...not long enough either and it only had the one snap in the middle. So a no go for me (good for my wallet :) since i'd been lusting after it for a while!

Double-serge pencil skirt - really beautiful, good quality wool, lined, came to knee length, tried it in the black but will wait for this on sale. Liked it but didn't really need it for my wardrobe.

Double cloth tulip coat - wanted to love this but buttons stop right under my bust making me look pregnant! :( Plus for a winter coat, I don't want one that flaps open underneath my bust.

Dream open cardigan - regular price at my store. I didn't try it on since they only had the orange and it is quite bright. Had they had the gray, I would have tried on and bought it if they matched the online price. Kind of kicking myself for not trying it to at least get an idea on fit.

Tissue turtleneck - LOVE this, in the plum colour. Will definetly buy once it goes on sale. Fits nicely, thin, beautiful colours.

Merino plum rose cardigan - buffalo had a good selection of sizes and colours in this - tried it on, was baggy in my normal size (L) - not a must buy so i left it behind.

THey also had a beautiful silk, "painted" skirt for about $150 that I loved, a-line and came longer than most of jcrew's skirts, past my knees which i like but it was a bit pricey and nothing that i needed at the moment so left it behind.

Hope this helps anybody looking for info!

    ReplyDelete
  35. leaderboys: yeah, definitely. What I'd recommend doing is, assuming you know that the same item/color is on sale for cheaper online, alert a sales associate and have them check for you. I've always been able to get the reduced online price along with the extra 40% and my student discount. It never hurts to be insistent.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Irene, I think we both did the same thing! I live in Toronto and had a number of returns, plus got tired of hearing of all of hte price differences between online/retail so I did the drive this morning as well! The ruffle henley is great...I tried it on and was debating about it and walked away...shouldh ave gotten it, I loved loved loved it in the purple!

And wasn't the bow belt such a good buy! I couldn't believe it?!

  37. OT: Any opinions on the lilly cashmere cardi? I saw one on Ebay and it looked cute. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  38. a,
oh, I wish I could help you, but the skirt I got wasn't the pencil one - it's 120s flannel wool (thicker than the usual 120s) and a slight a-line.

In looking at the 120s pencil skirts on the website, they look to me like they'd fall an inch or so below the knees. Can you get exact measurements from customer service?

Hope you figure out a way to "make it work" as Tim Gunn would say :-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. a,
haha, that's funny that we were in the same store, i was debating whether to buy it in all three colors, but ended up with the pale gold, its such a cute piece!! and as for the henley that's the color i got, the plum! they didnt' have the other colors in my size, i would've loved it in blk and white and whatever other colors they had. i didn't try the city tee cardigan, cuz i got distracted by the ecole jkt which i am so madly in love with, i ordered it online as soon as i hit mississauga and it's now on its way to me, hopefully. i didn't see the blouse you mentioned but sounds very pretty! oh i also tried on the lydia, it looked like a tent on me but i htink if it goes on sale i might consider getting it. the selection at the store was much better than i expected, when i went in summer a couple months ago, they had zip, like a couple sale items and barely any regular priced items (not even the madison chino or the buttery twill trouser). next time we should go together since we both love jcrew so much, all my family and friends think i'm crazy to be so addicted to jcrew.

  40. anon @ 6:21: how much was the ruffle henley - still 39.99? I have it in the plum and love it, but would also like the dark slate. However, that color is gone online. (I should have bought it when it was still in stock, but needed to wait for another paycheck. :P) If they're marked down again, plus the 40%, then I might call around and look for it. TIA

    ReplyDelete
  41. math teacher, yes unfortunately they are still at 39.99, which is a little more than what i would like to pay, but GAWD! THEY ARE SOOOOOOOOO GORGEOUS! i don't recall what other color the store had but i asked the SA to check while i was in the fitting room hyperventilating over how beautiful the top is, and she told they didn't have anything else in my size so i took her words for it, but in hindsight i should've gone and checked it myself, can't always trust those SAs.

  42. anon at 5:52: that's the bella I won. I feel horrible that you had a fight with your mother....I'm so sorry. Just remember that life is too short to fight with parents!!! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks, cleo26! Come to think of it, I think I snagged the lighter orange... Now I understand why they asked me over the phone if the sweater I was talking about was lighter orange -- I just said it's orange-orange. I checked my March catalogue and it does say dark carrot. I don't think there even was a lighter orange made in the spring. However, I recall now that the sweater I glimpsed at the Reston store a couple of weeks ago was actually more of a medium orange. Maybe it was something they reissued for fall in a slightly different shade?

I don't think it was dark carrot because I recently bought the dream open cardigan in carrot, and I don't think the cashmere rosette in the store was darker than that. But I guess I'll find out when it comes in the mail! I think I'll love it either way -- I can't get enough orange!

I recently bought the dream shirred tunic in cayenne, the aforementioned dream open cardigan in carrot, the herringbone trousers in sweet potato, and the Jackie cardigan in bright tangerine (which is actually a very, very light shade of orange-not like the color on the website). Orange is such a great color and it works fabulously with my complexion.

If you are looking for the rosette cardigan, give the Reston store a call.

  44. Hey Irene, I know I was shocked too at the store selection...I also made the trip in teh summer and your right, nothing special! The shirts I"m talking about were folded on teh first display when you walk in. I passed by them twice, and only saw them properly b/c I had my eye on the merino rose cardy which was on teh same shelf. I wish I did pick up that henley now!!!!

I had tried on teh velvet ecoles back in teh summer and didn't like them at all. I should have tried on the herringbone :(((

Don't worry, my husband also thinks i'm crazy for being so obsessed! in fact, the typos in this posting right now are b/c i'm typing fast, in the other room, hoping he won't see me "on that site again"!!!!!!

I gotta say the one nice thing about no jcrews in canada is you don't see too many ppl wearing their stuff around town :)

btw did u check out the BR sale? 30% off of everything in the store? I only planned on going to jcrew but couldn't pass it up, came away with some really cute tops for work in the most beautiful jewel toned colours!

    ReplyDelete
  45. La belle helene - I get it now, you are talking about the fuller super 120s skirts right? Lucky you! Where did you get this from, the website or ebay...? I loved that cut but didn't have any of their suiting pieces last year...now I'm in a job where I have to wear suits almost every day and wish I had one of those skirts to go with my abby jackets (which I got to go wtih the super 120s sleeveless suiting dresses)

    ReplyDelete
  46. a,
yes, that's the one I'm talking about. It was featured in last November's catalogue. I got it off ebay. Everyone now and then, it's possible to just get really, really lucky ordering blind - I took a chance, because I'd never tried it on and J.Crew's sizes are all over the place for me - with no other store can my sizes vary so much.

I'm interested in the pencil 120s, too, to wear with the abby jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  47. weab: I should have asked what other colors you have in the cord skirt? Sometimes my brain works slow - I try not to do too much thinking on Saturdays. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. 3-penny princess: thanks for the additional information!

I am crazy for orange too and bought the cardigans in both shades. I will be returning the dark carrot and exchanging the lighter color for a different size.

I also bought the Dream open cardigan in carrot. :) I think i will return it because i would have really liked that there was some way to keep it closed. I feel cold most of the time and need the closure. Plus, i had intended for it to go with the Lydia watercolor but the shape doesn't go well with the Lydia. Lastly, i must mention the primrose sweater i purchased in orange.

I've been eyeing the Greta in sweet potato, again a kind of orange. :) Have you seen it?

  50. In regards to J. Crew sending out these sort of announcement e-mails in batches--it's one of the main reasons I check this blog every day....I usually see these discounts announced DAYS before I ever get an e-mail from J. 51. "a": did they have a lot of Tierney sandals?

    Thanks for your help.

  52. jcrew junkie, congrats! hopefully you will love it as much as i do, and just for reference for others that might be interested, while the bella looked terrrible on me, last year's lexington (the ones with the stripes) fit me quite well, although the sleeve was a tad long, i love the ecole even more than the lexington, i actually really like the hook, gosh i just can't wait to get it in the mail and start wearing it, the weather in toronto is definitely getting a lil chilly.

  53. a,
yeah i was so glad the selection was pretty full at the store today, too bad i missed the blouse, but it sounds so pretty, i'm sure it looks beautiful on you. i actually picked up the silk rose merino cardigan and was admiring it but kept thinking gosh washing this cardigan would be a pain becasue of the delicate silk roses. so i must've missed the blouses. but i was really impressed by the city tee cardigan, wish i had tried it on.

yeah i thought for fun i'd try on the velvet too, and it fit nothing like the herringbone on me at least, i'm sure it looks great on some ppl. i had to add that the wool on the ecole jkt is alot nicer than on the bella, bella was quite coarse, which really surprised me as well.
no, i didn't visit anyting else, my parents weren't impressed, they waited out in the car for me after about 10 mins in the store, so i was rushing out after i spent like at least 1 hour in jcrew, i walked by banana and was really tempted to go in too.
actually funny you should mention that, the other day iwas walkign down bloor street and saw someone wearing the slub cotton tunic top which i own, in three colors!
but gosh i love jcrew, i keep saying i'm goign to quit and stop ordering i just can't help it. btw, i just called and ordered the ruffle henley in the kelly green and the blue, and definitely will be praying for white and blk and dk. slate. fingers crossed :)

  55. forgot to add a couple more reviews:
the felt wool mini: LOVED! the wool is really nice and soft and the mini wasn't too mini actually, i think with tights i could wear it to the office. it's all lined and fits me quite well, overall i have pretty good luck with jcrew skirts than their pants, alot of their casual pants are too big on me. anyhow, the skirt hits about one hand's length from my knee, and the beige is a very neutral color that could go with everything.

match stick cord: it did not work on me at all! i tried on sz 26, and it wasn't big actually to my surprise, overall i'm sz 25 in jeans (7's, paige, and other brands). i don't have much behind but is slightly hippy and these jeans made my behind look flatter than it already is, so didn't like it.

boot cut cord: this fit better on me, i tried it in sz 0R. loved how the front looks, the back looks bettr than the matchstick on me, the cord feels beautiful. thick and soft, nic eand substantial, with slight stretch. while i wouldn't pay reg. price fot these but would defitely consider once they go on sale. i liked the fit of the leg, i would definitely wear it in the office.

vintage cord skirt: again, loved the fabric, the cord is very soft with some stretch. tried in the yellow color, loved the color, but it really flattened my behind. the length was pretty nice imo, it hit me right at my knee and i'm about 5'6.

  56. Lol Irene, I can totally relate. I used to always check out Jcrews website but didn't start ordering until this year. And its been sooo bad for my wallet!! Its slightly addictive and there always seems to be stuff there that I like or that tempts me. But I guess its like that for most otherwise this blog wouldn't exist :-)

Anon - ITA about the cords - I tried on the bootcuts and the matchsticks....and I hated the matchsticks!!! They made my look huge and I normally look fine in skinny jeans...I tried it in a dark colour so it wasn't the colour either...the bootcuts were nice but again, possibly a sale item.

There was also a beautiful silk aline dress - I think its the Julianne dress in light gray polka dot for $59.99 less 40% but I don't have anywhere to where it to right now....but now that i'm home I'm really thinking of it. The wide scooped neckline was SO flattering!! I'm not sure if I could get away with it for work, if I could do it for sure I would have bought it!!

I remember some discussion re the Matilda dress - is this ok to wear for daytime or is it more of an evening dress? How shiny is it IRL? And where does it fall to, i.e. to the knee or above?
I find the website doesn't accurately portray this most of the time (i.e. the dark chambray skirt we all remember!!)
    Thanks!

  58. BELLA FOR SALE

ok ladies- i decided it's just not working for me. i have a size 0, camel (heather nut) herringbone bella that i have worn once and now want to sell. just not my style, unfortunately. i want to love it, but just don't.

i bought it on ebay from siopsynam2005. i'd like to sell it for $125 shipped to recover my costs.

i am currently out of the country and will not be able to ship until november 3. will send pics if needed.

email me at mschwoer17 AT yahoo DOT com if interested. thanks!

ps- sorry for the weird email but i've gotten a ton of spam since posting here originally.

  59. Pink1: I have the lily cardigan and like it, but it is a little boxy (more than the picture with the model indicates). I thought about returning it because of this, but decided to keep it since I got a good deal on it and wearing a longer shirt/cami underneath helps minimize the boxiness. Also, I found it runs a bit large. Hope this helps!

  60. Anon-Thanks for the heads up on the snow-leopard Simone coat in a 12, but I actually just received my size 14 today from another aficionada who read the post too:) I LOVE IT! Perfect for work with some dressy black pants. Love this blog and my new coat-thanks!
I was in my B&M today and everything was 40%, but Crewcuts was still 25% which it has been for about 2 weeks. Some adorable holiday stuff for girls:)

  61. leslie, I wish you hadn't posted your suggestion about finding a bella on EBay. I was quietly bidding on one (and winning) in the size and color I've been wanting for a year because it wasn't listed as a bella. All of a sudden, after your posting, several bids pushed the price over J. Crew's price and over what I can afford as a teacher. I know all is fair in love and EBay, but now I'm sad because my chance at winning the auction has been ruined.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Perhaps Leslie was the seller and wanted to create awareness to raise the price.

Sorry to hear that you were on the receiving end of that.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I really don't think that Leslie meant any harm, she was just pointing out that there are several ways to search for the Bella so as to help someone find one that perhaps they may have overlooked. If you are truly interested in one, there is a lady that some of the Aficionadas have purchased their Bellas from and you could contact her about getting you one. Good luck! :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ouch! to Anonymous at 11:27pm. I doubt very much that Leslie was the seller. I realize that your comment wasn't aimed at me but if I were Leslie, I think that I would be a little hurt by your comment. I don't feel that anyone should jump to conclusions.

To Anonymous at 10:51, I agree with jcrewjunkie that I don't think Leslie meant any harm. IMHO, I believe that she was merely assisting others here in finding the bella jacket. It was very astute of you to have located the Bella when it was posted without the word "Bella". I'm sure you'll find another one. As a long time Ebayer, I find that with Ebay, if you've got time on your hands, you can always find a great deal. It basically comes down to how quickly you want it and how long you're willing to wait in order to pay "your maximum price" for your item. I wish you luck and happy hunting! :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. auction is a fair game ... it is time consuming though ... hunting for deals takes (sometimes wastes)a lot of time ...

There will be more buy-it-now posted on ebay as ebay changed its listing fees for fixed price items. I do believe it was a good move by ebay. Reduced risk of sellers and saved time of buyers. of course deal-hunting will be harder.

  67. Walnut Creek, CA has 40% off on sale items and I saw about four of the argyle sweater vests w/the bow. A couple in the heather camel and a couple in silver. I didn't see any in San Francisco. This was earlier today, but maybe someone may have luck tomorrow if you're still looking for it.

Can't think of anything else they had that was special. However, I think SF had a couple of the soiree cardigans. Again -- this was earlier today but still worth a try tomorrow.

  68. Allie: Thanks for the review of the Lilly cashmere cardi. I finally found a picture of it on a model. I'm not going to get it....I wish it was longer. Thanks for the help!

  69. I went this weekend and the only thing I left with was a $6 rosette belt. A nice score, but I really need a pair of jeans---can anyone help suggesting a pair that is looser in the thigh area? I tried on Bootcut and the high heel flare and they were both too fitted in the thigh. I wear a size 28 and even that needs to be taken in at the waist, so sizing up isn't an option. I just don't like the tightness around my thighs---I feel like it accentuates them and would rather find a pair that just flows straight down rather than coming in at the knee. Any suggestions? JCrew or other brands? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hi Josie! I have the same concerns about the thigh area when it comes to wearing jeans. I have found at J.Crew that the 5 pocket Trouser Jean works well and is more forgiving in the thigh area, but my favorites are from GAP and they are called the GAP Essential Jeans. The GAP jeans come in 3 different inseam lengths and 3 different washes, as well. :) HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  71. josie: I also really like a lot of Gap's jeans this year... and BR if you need something dressier! My absolute favorite jeans of all time are Paige Premium Demin.

Also, did you try the hipslung jeans at JC? Just a thought! J Crew's jeans don't fit me at all, but I really liked the look and feel of their hipslungs in the store!

All that being said, it sounds like we are about the same size and are looking for the same kind of jean - I haven't been able to find exactly what you are looking for either. Everything I can find is either tight or really wide leg and baggy!! Good luck!

  72. Can someone give me the name of a store/location that has the chiffon rosette belts for $6 in most/all the colors...I really want to order some. THanks a ton:)

  73. OFF TOPIC,

does anyone know if J.Crew will offer a promotional $25 or $50 off your purchase of ____ or more anytime soon? I've been meaning to pick up a winter jacket but can't bring myself to spend the full price. Also, does the student discount work on top of the above type of promotions in stores?

    Thanks

  74. OT-
Has anyone bought this years peacoat--does it run true to size? I found the tulip coat ran big so sized down. This peacoat is not number sized--just xs, sm etc. Not sure which size due to the above. Also--thinsulate or not? Is it really worth it--maybe that's personal. Does it change the fit/bulk of the jacket by adding thinsultae?

    A lot of questions:) Thanks!

  75. I am bummed--I had a SMIDGN of hope that the honey glaze boucle pencil skirt would show up in other sizes but instead it is TOTALLY GONE from the site! UGh--so sad. Kinda like the sequin ruffle cardigan.

Has anyone seen either in the store-if so, where?
    Thanks!

  76. Chiffon flower belts: yesterday J Crew at Stonestown San Francisco had lots of them in pink with white flower, blue on blue, gold on navy, and a few red flower on gray. good luck!

  77. Hi all! This is OT, but I wanted to post a review of the Sketchbook Roses Belle skirt because I love it so much and feel like a lot of people might overlook it. It's not as flashy as some of the other pieces this season, but it is definitely a beautiful, classic piece.

I was curious about this skirt because the pattern is similar to that of a Chanel scarf I saw in Lucky magazine last month or the month before. I thought the skirt was pretty online, but I was afraid that it was overpriced. I was pleasantly surprised by it when I saw it in the store. I tried it on, and I fell in love with it. The silk taffeta is so soft and smooth and light as air. The roses do look like a charcoal sketch, as they are soft shaded graphite color, but they also have a hint of shimmer because of the silk taffeta fabric. I tried the skirt on and decided it was worth every penny; I took it home with me.

The shape of this Belle is a bit fuller than the cotton taffeta Belles. It almost looks as though it has some crinoline underneath it, even though it doesn't have anything but the thin lining layer. The fuller shape gives the skirt a flattering, waist-cinching 50s silhouette when paired with a form-fitting top. I paired this skirt with a tucked-in black cashmere ¾ sleeve turtleneck, skinny black patent belt on the skirt's waist, pearls, and simple black heels, and put my hair in a loose chignon. When I saw myself I was vaguely reminded of Grace Kelly in Rear Window, which is impressive because believe me I look nothing like Grace Kelly. I made a polyvore set with this look (which does even come close to doing it justice), and this is how I plan to wear it to my rehearsal dinner this Friday. I am so glad I paid attention to this skirt!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Michelle: I am so glad you love the sketchbook belle! I love the print but unfortunately the shape was so unflattering on me. It was strange because I love the paintbrush belle maybe because I'm short and the extra fullness was to much). :(

Anyway, congrats! I'm glad it worked for someone! :)

  79. OT- but does anyone have the Tenley boots from last year? Anyone have any idea whether they run true to size? Thank you all!

  80. Rockaway Townsquare in NJ had a lot of belts when I was there on Thursday, at 50% off (not 40% like in other stores), but I didn't notice if they were the chiffon rosette. You might want to give them a call; they often get leftover sale merchandise from other area stores, so the final sale area is pretty good.

    Good luck!

  81. Hurrah! I get to return the favour from some of my fellow jcrew fans by providing info. on an item, #86013, the 120s pencil skirt.

Luckily, it so happens that I've been trying to decide between the petite sizing or a reg with hem approach. After spending some time with the CS on the phone I got measurements for both. So I hope this is helpful for a & belle helene, here goes.

In the reg 6 #86013 120s pencil is:
    waist 30 1/4
    hip 39
length 22 1/2 (from center front)

    In petite 6, #86562, the 120s are:
    waist 29 1/4
    hip 38
    length 20 1/4

I'm still amazed that I saved the slip of paper with all of that info on it. That's the good news. Te bad news is that the reason why I have those measurements is because it seems that the sizing has shifted a wee bit on the 120s.

I had bought carbon & navy 120s a few months ago. Since the colours were noticeably different, I figured I'd get the charcoal in p6 as well. Somewhere along the wy, they lost about 1/2 an inch in the hip so now there is a small amount of creasing in the area. I'm probably the only one who notices, but it bothers me enough to consider passing or bringing in the rg for tailoring. As a petite I've discovered it's always easier to have something taken in or up than trying to stretch it out :)

That said, I love the two 120s I have. I've worn them at least 3 times each since purchase. The fabric is great & the petite sizing falls to just about an inch above the knee. It has a great shape that hugs the bum without being too tight (no vpl)& the waist fits smoothly right below my navel. The navy has pale blue pinstripes that look great with the kelly #91824 & slim #87773 bright blue blouses. Also the carbon skirt is a paler grey with white & aqua stripes that work perfectly with the peacock & cloud chiffon rose belt.

Oh & regarding the chiffon belt. The Walnut Creek store in CA had a good selection on Friday. Hope that helps as well.

    Happy hunting everyone,

    Heather:D

  82. Covert- I luuuuv that boucle skirt too. It's so gorgeous in the catalogs. I haven't seen it in my store though.
I tried on the Peacoat Friday. I don't know if it necessarily runs big but the XS was overwhelming on me. I'd definitely need a petite. I'm going to post about it on my blog later today

  83. FFM and LindseyB,
Thanks for all of the suggestions regarding jeans!
FFM--That's so funny---I just tried on the essentials at Gap and almost got them.... I was worried they were a little too boxy, but they definitely were the closest thing to "the perfect pair" that I've come across. Maybe I'll give them a second look. I may be setting my expectations too high---Guess I'm looking for a pair that will miraculously shrink my thights by an inch. LOL

I usually wear the Long and Leans at Gap and like them enough, but they don't seem to come in a really nice dark wash right now. :(

LindseyB---I thought the same thing about the hipslung and tried on a 27 because they were out of my size at the B&M store. They were way too small, but they had potential---I will keep them in mind since you mentioned them. Also, I've been looking at Paige jeans too.... any thoughts on which style is best for bigger thighs? I've heard the Robertson and Hollywood Hills. Do they run as big as J Crew? Like, if I'm a 28 in J Crew could I assume I'd be the same in Paige? Thanks so much for your help!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. cleo26 - I think the Greta in sweet potato is definitely a statement piece! It's unique in that you don't see a lot of houndstooth prints in colors like this. Sometimes, a large houndstooth pattern can be overwhelming, especially on an A-line coat that is kind of swingy in the front. I like how J.Crew added the back yoke and pleating with buttons as well as the cuff buttons. It adds a little structure to the silhouette.

If you're a fan of the orange like I am, you'll be a hit in this coat! I'm also liking this year's classic peacoat in light pumpkin.

  85. Thanks JCrew Junkie: I posted the info about eBay bellas in the effort to help anyone who was looking for one. I'm terribly sorry if I've caused a problem...that was not my intention. 86. Ladies looking for bella jackets -- there is a nice selection at the Leesburg, VA outlet store. I saw velvet and herringbone a few days ago. Try giving them a call to see if they have your size and color.

Also - good news! I just want to report back that J.Crew was able to find the cashmere Audrey dress for me in XS in heather silver. It's being shipped. Anyone else looking for it should call customer service.

  87. On another note...I was NOT the seller of this Bella, and to suggest that to others on this board is rather unfortunate.

  88. sam: right now you can et $25 off $100 with the code PEEKABO - it's good through 9/30.

  91. In fairness to the anon who posted about losing out on the bella, all she did was express sadness about losing out on the bella and say she wished the auction hadn't been mentioned here. She even admitted all is fair on ebay. So I think we could be a little more sympathetic towards her.

I am all for being polite on here, but surely people can still post dissenting opinions without being accused of being neg-aholics.

  92. leaderboys: Do you know who Billy is? He always helps me when I'm there - he's a great sa. I do have to admit that almost all who work there are super friendly without being pushy. I bought 2 belts, the gray cord skirt, and a headband. They were pretty picked over. Now, when I'm in there, I'll be wondering if one of the other customers is you. :) Although during the school year I can only get there on weekends, and you're probably able to shop during the week. I hate that they close so early.

  94. May I inquire of all you rosette-belt lovers: How do you wear them? I've looked at them, but I can't picture myself being bothered to if I'm wearing it with jeans - just seems too inconvenient. Also, do you tie them in back or loop them around to the front?

    Heather,
Thanks for the info on the super 120s pencil skirts. Now there doesn't seem to be any in the sale section, though ... in fact, the sale section seems much smaller. Is anyone else noticing this?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Geezus. I know, I hate it when people start eyeing my good finds on ebay and bidding it up. Let anon speak her mind, afterall, we have to be open and be understanding when everyone else rants about CS and not getting their orders!

    ReplyDelete
  96. josie: I have the Paige Robertson jeans and they do run much more generous through the entire thigh area (more than, say, their standard bootcut jean).

As far as sizing goes, I wear a 28 in all their jeans (wish I had sized up in the cropped jeans, though) and to compare, I wear a 27 in this years JC matchstick cords and a 2 in all their other pants/ bottoms (although this year, the 2 runs a bit big for me)... so I hope that comparison helps!
The Paige website is really really great and helpful at finding the perfect fit! We only have a couple stores around me that carry that brand - so usually I order from online!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Has anyone tried JC Boy jeans, they look like they have a more generous cut in the thigh and leg areas?

    ReplyDelete
  98. La Belle Helene: I tie my chiffon rose belts all the way around to the front again (OK, not that easy for me! have to knot it!). I have worn two of mine, and find them fresh and unusual enough for my taste and look; I was worried they would be too "jeune fille" which is not what I strive for at 50! I worn one with a patterned T where it picked up the colors and so looked less obvious. I wore another with a plain gray JCrew ringspun where it stood out more, like jewelry.

  99. Hi all. I was the sad teacher last night who posted about losing out on an EBay bella. I was honestly not tring to attack Leslie. I understand that she was just trying to be nice and helpful. I was just pointing out that in trying to help fellow aficionadas, a fellow aficionada was hurt. But I know that no harm was meant. Anyway, this all had a happy ending: I somehow rationalized the increased price and, economy be damned, I won my bella by two dollars this morning! It was more expensive, but since I've wanted it for a year, I figure that it's worth every penny. So Leslie, I do think that you're very sweet. And I'm going to be the best dressed teacher in my new bella!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Anon - I'm glad you got your bella. Which color was it?

Maggie May, thanks for the info. Maybe I will try one since they're now down to under $10. For that, it's hard to wrong...:-)

  101. math teacher: I assume Billy is the one who had long hair and got it cut recently. I heard him tell someone that he donated it to locks of love. Yes, he is very nice, even though I buy just an item or two on super-clearance. He seems to treat every person well across the board.

    ReplyDelete
  102. La Belle Helene I wear mine with jeans and jcrew ringspun graphic tees, but I really like them with my jackie cardigans and skirts. My favorite outfit currently is my black jackie cardigan layered over a black cami, gray belle skirt (although I have the Old Navy version) and I tie the gray rosette belt (with the bright pink/red flower) so that the flower is in front (off to the side a bit) and just tie it in a bow in back. I tie it fairly high at the waist. I also wear it with my bateau knit 3/4 sleeve dress in gray (I forget what these are called... but they came in strawberry, navy and gray this summer.) It's kind of banded at the waist, and I tie the flower there in front. It really acts as "jewelry" for the dress.

Lindseyb---thank you so much for the info on the Robertsons. I have to order online, and your measurements gave me a great place to start. I'm a 4 in J Crew pants, so the 28 Paiges will definitely be too small. I'll try a 29 and go from there. Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Does anyone know??? When is the Oct. stuff going to be out online?

    ReplyDelete
  104. weab: I can see how the fullness might overwhelm some people. You may be aware though that I share your love for the paintbrush floral Belle ... I feel like the fit on that one is pretty universal. I wish they would come out with more colors and patterns for the cotton taffeta Belles.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I went to the B&M store today and purchased some vintage polo shirts and Tompkins pants that were on sale for my husband using the red phone because I needed sizes that weren't in the store.

When I got home I checked the website and the 40% off price from the store was the same price as online, but online I was eligible for an additional 20% off.

  111. I went to J.Crew shop close to my place. A shop master shared a great idea for X'mas presents with me. She recommended chiffon rosette belts ($5.99) as X'mas wrapping! After X’mas, everyone who gets a present can use a gift-wrapping ribbon as a belt. I love this idea!!! I also bought small colorful coin purses (original price $24->$8.5 with markdown & 40% off) for my family. She always gives me a great advice. Thanks to her, my X’mas shopping is about half-way done!

  112. Hey..I was at the J.Crew in Shrewsbury N.J. today and when I went to go make my purchase I told the salesgirl, like I have a million times, that I was a student. She told me that as of 4 days ago they can no longer combine discounts in the store. I had heard this online and on the phone but I was really disappointed! I know I have seen this topic before regarding online and phone orders...but I wasn't sure if anyone had realized this. Regardless, I was veryyyy sad to say the least :-(

  114. fidele and anyone looking for an opinion/feedback on the Belle skirt:

I am 5'7 and typically a size 4 in for instance the average dress pant/skirt. I believe I am in the minority but this skirt looks hideous on. I cannot even wear a sz 2 as it is too big. It is IMO totally unflattering unless you are very tall with long legs, perhaps a sz 0-2. This may put some people off (and they have a right to their opinion:) but I do not get how this skirt is flattering to anyone that isn't at least 5'8 and up with long legs. It just hits in the wrong spot on the legs and balloons out for a non-slimming effect. SIZE DOWN-at least one size if not 2 sizes and perhaps if you have the option I suggest try it on at the store! I wanted to love this so much but no can do...go for a pencil skirt instead.

    I know you all agree!

  116. lexi: I had the same experience today with emailing in for a discount with an online order, and have also never had this problem before! I'm glad they gave you some explanation at least, and can't believe they are cutting out the combination of discounts in this economic climate. This really really really stinks, but it is sounding more and more to me like this change to NOT COMBINE is being made across the board...:(

  117. Reply to casual crew RE: boy jeans- I have a pair and I like them, but I think they are cut slimmer in the thigh and hips. I like the hipslung jeans which are much roomier through the hip and thigh on me. You never know until you try them on! Good Luck!

  118. covert5: Actually I am 5'4" and I have shorter legs (30"-31" inseam), and the Sketchbook Roses Belle looks great on me. It hits below my waist and right below the knee, and everyone who saw it on me said it looked fabulous. Maybe it just didn't work for you :( But there are definitely people it DOES work for.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Maybe the Sketchbook roses Belle is a "love it or leave it" item. It looked great on me, but I can see how it might overpower some people, especially those with a slight frame. I'm short but not petite, and I think that has something to do with it. There are plenty of times when things other people love, and I want to love too, that just don't work for me; I am glad I found something that works in my favor for once!

    ReplyDelete
  120. covert5 - I'm with you! I'm glad to see the final sale inventory shrinking and I'm definitely ready for some new fall/winter offerings. I caught about as much on sale as I could have by now, but at this point, I'm just scooping up good bargains instead of something really out of this world.

Can't wait to get the fall/winter catalogue!

  122. I went to the Boston store, where there was additional 40% off sale. There were a lot of T-shirts, some colors of cords, wool jackets, a few merino sweaters, and the argyle sweaters. They had lots of the Dream taffeta-sash cardigan for $119.99, so I got one for just $61 after the discount and my student/teacher discount. I also got 2 jewel-buckle grosgrain belts for $7.60 after discounts. Loving it!

  130. Are the stores still offering a % off Final Sale this week? If yes, would you mind telling me where? There's a couple of things I'd like to pick up and it really doesn't matter when the store is. Shipping to Canada is the same regardless where in the states it's coming from.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  131. Charleston, SC still has the 40% off...they have 3 colors of the rose belts left...for $6.00. Thanks Math Teacher...they are really nice at that store when I called just now...Christina is great!

  132. Also, I tried to call JCrew and get a price match on the rosette belts to match the Charleston, SC store and they refused to do it unless I called from a red phone! Well, if I had a store close by I wouldn't be calling online! The price difference is so great on the belts $6.00 vs. $38.00!!! Charleston did not have two of the colors I wanted so the sales rep in the store was going to order them for me and make JCrew online give me the $6 price! Too cool!

JCrew online's high prices are such a turn off.

  133. anon: glad you got your belts. Christine is a manager and is super nice, although Billy is still my favorite. I'm only sorry they didn't have more of the colors left. Don't forget, we're suppose to see more markdowns tomorrow, at least in the stores. Please keep me posted, as I can't get to my store until the weekend - they close at 6!!! through the week.

  134. Hi All,

I'm not sure if this is related to the "many more instore mark-downs" promise... However, I have recv'd an email promising new items on the online sale page.
Just for giggles & grins, I took a quick peek. I did notice that the sweet potato herringbone skirt item 95910 is now $100 in some colors. Not sure if you could claim the instore 40% discount. Even so, I thought I should mention it because I know that many of you have mentioned it. In fact, I'm pretty certain FFM has featured that skirt in one of her fab outfit suggestions.

As for me, I'm hoping to score a few more of those chiffon rosette belts. Most esp now that Naomi gave that great tip of using them as part of a gift. I hope that some of my friends will enjoy them as much as I have!

    Happy hunting,

    Heather:D

  135. Others on posts have reported today that the additional % is now 20%

When I called Jcrew.com online from home they would not honor the additional % off in stores unless I was calling from a red phone. So I called the store to buy the items from them and they did not have one item in the color that I really wanted so the manager offered to take my info. and call from the red phone and make JCrew.com take the additional 40% off! Yeah for her:) This was Tuesday.
