Moreover, I think it would be great to extend this idea to discuss new arrivals that have already sold out (or close to it). For example, Melanie (in the same post) found that the twinkle tweed shift (click here) is already unavailable. The Ringspun chiffon graphic tee (Item 97428; $55.00) is only available in size "medium". Fidele (in the "J.Crew Stores: 40-50% Off Final Sale {yey!}" post) shared with us that "Mickey Drexler said as much, that they weren't going back to production when items ran out, because they didn't think their customers wanted to see "everyone" wearing their clothes."
Here is a list of some of the items sold out (or close to sold out) mentioned in this post so far (with the names of the members who shared the items with us):
- Sequin tweed école jacket | Item 96556, $300.00
(JCrewJunkie, A, Anon at 9:51AM, Anon at 10:30AM) - Snow-leopard Simone Peacoat | Item 96475, $260.00
(Anon at 9:53AM) - Berry-trim Astrid Jacket | Item 96309, $248.00
(Anon at 9:59AM) - Wool Charlie Jacket | Item #, $235.00
(Anon at 10:30AM) - Wool Twill Pencil Skirt | Item 97916, $125.00
(Lisa) - Sparkle Tween Pencil Skirt | Item 96176, $175.00
(FFM) - Double-serge Pencil Skirt | Item 96477, $128.00
(Dea, Naomi) - Wool Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan | Item 98417, $145.00
(Anon at 10:56AM, FFM) - Cashmere Cardigan in heather plum (Anon at 9:53AM)
Hi there! I am a regular reader of your blog and a big J Crew fan! I've tagged you in the Sept. 25th post at my blog to list 7 random things about yourself. Hope you'd like to participate, you could theme your post around J Crew! Visit my blog to check out the rules :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to post this in the most recent thread and not the thread that was discussing the bellas but I have a quick question for any bella owners - is the full bella lined or sleeves only in the velvet bellas? I am close to buying 2 on ebay and the seller is unsure if they are outlet bellas or normal bellas, but she did mention that only the sleeves are lined. Just want to make sure before I bid. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAs for items I missed out on, the Jacinda jacket in black!!! I wanted it and thought I'd wait and now its sold out in my size. It would have been the PERFECT work cover up :(
The Sequin Tweed Ecole. I think that it is absolutely STUNNING!
ReplyDeletea - the velvet bellas from last year are fully lined. I just went and checked mine. I have seen the outlet version IRL and have not been impressed - the lack of lining in the body makes them very "flimsy" looking and they don't hold their shape. And it seems weird to me that the ebay seller can't tell you if they are outlet bellas...
ReplyDeleteJust my two cents though.
I want the sequin tweed ecole too. :(
ReplyDeleteThe wool twill pencil skirt (the camel one) has disappeared from the website, and I so wanted it.
ReplyDeleteSold out in large and one other size (can't remember)...cashmere cardigan in the heather plum:( really bummed!
ReplyDeleteSnow leopard peacoat in most sizes is gone:(
Looks like the berry Astrid is going to be sold out before long...what a long waitlist it has!
ReplyDeleteA,
ReplyDeleteMy velvet Bella is fully lined, with contrast trim on the lining and a striped tie silk interior pocket.
I wanted the shoe tee (item 97627) and it is gone. I saw it in Final Sale last Friday---it seemed to get there fast---and called to order it. The associate told me there was plenty of stock in XL. However, the item was canceled from my order. Boo.
ReplyDeleteI did get the chiffon ribbon tee yesterday in black. I'm not sure if it is a keeper or not, though. I noticed it is pretty much gone, too.
The double-serge pencil skirt in blue is completely sold out. I ordered it early, but the size 4 I got was too big and when I tried to order size 2 it was gone. The blue was so beautiful-- so sad.
ReplyDeletecheers--- dea
Jacquelyn, Yesterday the San Francisco Centre J Crew had at least two shoe t shirts. I also have one in XL that I bought at full price (39.50) and have been meaning to return because I bought one at 20% off later. I have stalled because I can't find receipt. (Isn't that the truth that the ONE receipt needed is elusive?) Maybe we can meet at the Great Weekly Exchange!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kater and Hexicon,
ReplyDeleteLooks like these are outlet bellas *sigh*...I thought I almost had one :(
I'm confused about the difference between J.Crew outlet products and J.Crew retail? How is it possible that authentic J.Crew products aren't the same quality?
ReplyDeleteHas there been any explanation by J.Crew about the differences?
thanks-- dea
Anon 9:53am
ReplyDeleteWhat is that cashmere cardigan-heather plum--I heard someone else say that too. Which one is that?
How do you all figure out how many of a certain item are still in stock?
ReplyDeleteI am sad that the sequin Ecole is sold out. Yesterday, there was a 0 left, but I am a 6. I was also bummed that the Wool Charlie jacket went so quickly. I was planning to buy it when they did a 20% sale, but it didn't even last that long.
ReplyDeleteHi Dea
ReplyDeleteThe factory stores sometimes do get merchandise from the Jcrew retail stores (overstocks, past seasons, etc) but for the most part, the outlet stores have their own designs, some of which are loosely based on best selling retail store designs, i.e. the outlet bellas which came out this year vs. the retail store bellas from previous years. The outlets offer cheaper prices, and often, cheaper materials, shoddy workmanship (i.e. no lining in outlet bellas which I believe were selling at $99, vs. full lining in retail bellas last year which were selling for $148 full price)
This is the case with a number of stores, i.e. GAP, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor - all of these stores do sometimes get items from the retail stores from previous seasons but a LOT of their merchandise is now manufactured specificially for the outlet store. Its to cater to outlet shoppers which is a relatively new breed of shoppers
I wanted the Trixie heels in warm ivory in a size 9 1/2. Gone.
ReplyDeleteI am extremely shocked at how fast items SEEM to be selling out. Oddly, they usually show up in the sale section a few months later. Wonder what's going on there...possibly stores sending them back to direct?
ReplyDeleteThe most recent item that *seemed* to get away from me was the C'est La Vie tee. However, Kater (aka Rock Star) was able to track one down for me at her b&m! Yay! Thanks again kater! That was a close one! :)
sooner_girl - i think you can find out inventory levels if you call into CS
ReplyDeleteAlso recommend calling into CS for getting sizing info - they have specific measurements for all of their merchandise which is really helpful since sizing seems to be all over the place these days with Jcrew
The sequin ecole was gorgeous! I think I saw this first in instyle...the ecole fit doesn't flatter me at all but if it did, I would definetly have bought that jacket!
Lucky for me I ordered the cricket sweater the first week it came out (late August). It's been sold out for weeks already.
ReplyDeleteI preordered the sweater in the picture of this post. I'm betting it'll be gone in a few weeks too.
I've missed the boat on several suit vests and some other items. Sometimes J.Crew is like Costco, it's there one day, gone the next.
OT...fit question: Does the Fiona jacket run TTS?
ReplyDeleteThe double-serge pencil skirt in blue size 0 is completely sold out. I ordered it and got one. I absolutely love it! I found a couple of sizes (4, 8, 10, 12???) in a store nearby.
ReplyDeleteOoooh maggie may, I would be very inetersted in buying that shirt. If you can e-mail me the price and other miscellany at fashionableyetfrugal at cox dot net I would be so appreciative.
ReplyDeleteThe wool-cashmere shawl collar cardigan-sold out in all sizes in the gray color. ;-(
ReplyDeleteRE: double-serge in blue
ReplyDeleteThey didn't have any blue at my b&m- so, I thought it was online only. Has anyone seen a blue double-serge skirt size 2 at their b&m?
thanks!
dea
I really wanted to buy the Ringspun chiffon graphic tee, but now it's totally gone. :(
ReplyDeleteanon @ 10:56--same here, i really wanted it in the gray!
ReplyDeleteMy items are the Wool-Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan in Heather Graphite or even Heathered Camel and the Sparkle Tweed Pencil Skirt...I still hold out hope they will be back...I'm not buying into the whole *once they're gone they're gone* deal, not to mention there will ALWAYS be something else I want just as much at J.Crew, so if I miss out, then it's ok. :)
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! Happy Thursday!
ReplyDeleteHere is a little insight to J Crew Factory Store merchandise. THe majority of the product is specifically made for the outlets, if you notice on the sewn tag of the product where it says J Crew, Outlet items have 2 diamonds under that, whereas retail labels do not.
The designs featured in the outlets are typically best sellers of previous seasons. If you are a loyal J Crew shopper and go in a retail store now, you will notice so many prints and styles from last fall season. However there is certainly a quality difference. I am not a big outlet shopper unless I stumble upon a great deal, but if you compare a retail item with an outlet one (jackets, suiting, cardigans) the retail item is definitely better quality.
Also, some left over retail items will be sent out to the factory, but I've noticed that sometimes they are priced higher then they were at final sale in retail. But sometimes, end of season usually, you can find some deals at the factory store.
However, going back to the theme of this entry, if there was a print last season that you loved and missed, you may not be able to find the exact item, but perhaps the print in a different style!
RATS..."Be Back Soon" is up on the website...just when I wanted to check on an order. Grrr.
ReplyDeletejcrewjunkie: The site is working for me. :)
ReplyDeleteI wanted the Ringspun Chiffon Graphic tee too, and also the Sequin Chiffon Ruffle cardigan. I ordered both, but my orders were cancelled each time. I understand not producing for "exclusivity" purposes, but it kind of sucks that they wouldn't even produce as much as the demand, or enough to cover cancelled orders :/ Especially when the Ringspun tee is still one of the "if..." picks on the homepage.
ReplyDeletei also like the ringspun chiffon graphic tees. I think they will be back later in on sale section. they always play these games
ReplyDeletejcrew guy in canada: I just had to comment on your "J.Crew is like Costco" comment. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteAs for J.Crew items I've missed...where do I begin?! The bella, the (canvas) fiona, the sparkle plaid tweed skirt, the dani peacoat (long), the orange butterfield, the owen bag, the campo d'fiore sweater dress (I loved this despite criticism of the "cartoony" print), not enough cafe capris...I could go on...
I placed an order yesterday around 11am and everything was "in stock." then in the evening I got an email saying one item was cancelled, so I called and was able to place an order for the same item in a different color (had to do it as a second order but they did not charge me additional s+h). Then this morning, I get an email that a second item from the first order has been cancelled. :( And it was an xmas gift for the bf. :(
ReplyDeleteThe only item left from the original order is a headband, which was only $4.99. After the adjusted s+h, I am only paying .70 cents s+h which I found amusing. :P
where is the sequin tweed ecole ? I haven't seen it online.... ?
ReplyDeleteIt is a great idea to post items one missed. However, JCrew has "trained" me so well that I snatch items up as soon as they come out at full price then decide if I want to return later. Sad....
ReplyDeleteHeather-that's because it sold out practically overnight.
ReplyDeletenevermind, I just found it by doing a google search and was redirected to the jcrew page via instyle: sequin tweed ecole
ReplyDeleteI feel like the pea coats didn't always have the shoulder epaulets on them and I wish I'd bought one before they added those on.
ReplyDeleteI am also sad I didn't get the daisy cotton cady shift. I really love the weight and feel of that fabric, less the cuts / styles they've been making with it as of late!
Jacquelyn - the shoe tee is still listed online in the final sale for $29.99 (in sizes XS - L). I would suggest calling again and questioning why they cancelled your order if it shows as still available online. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI still can't stand that the ecole doesn't have buttons. I would not pay $150-$300 for a buttonless blazer. I prefer more structured, menswear inspired blazers.
ReplyDeletevelvet ecole in honey glaze, size P0!!!
ReplyDeletea few weeks ago i was placing an order and went to add in the pima cotton vneck in heather moss. it was completely gone. i was annoyed because i wanted to add it to the order i was already making, and it had just been there the day before. of course, i checked back the next day and it was back. i don't understand when this happens, it cannot be related to "selling out." i think it's still glitches in the system. so, be patient! most of this stuff will come back.
ReplyDeletethe Sequin Chiffon Ruffle Cardigan. got one!
ReplyDeleteMine was the black velvet Bella in size 10...it was on backorder for a long time last winter and then JCrew cancelled it!
ReplyDeletemelissa: EXACTLY! The website is having so many issues...who REALLY knows what is sold out and what isn't? Even CS doesn't seem to know for sure...
ReplyDeleteSan Remo print shirtdress and
ReplyDelete"horse bit" (sp?) shirt dress (silk with a horsey pattern) saw it on Jenna in a magazine...I think it was 05 or 06 fall.
OT. Those looking for the rose merino cardigan (98781) they are available now in all colors and sizes. Looks like they did not sell out after all. Someone was asking yesterday. Thought this might help.
ReplyDeleteI must have the cashmere Audrey dress in silver in x-small!! I finally decided to bite the bullet yesterday and cough up the dough to purchase it only to find that it's now gone in small and x-small! I called up the store where I last saw it and they didn't have any smaller sizes either.
ReplyDeleteI'm kicking myself now! I almost bought it with the recent 20% coupon, but then I got cold feet and ordered a bunch of pants and sweaters instead. That teaches me a lesson!
3-penny princess: did you ask CS to do a Find It search for you?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteyes! i was looking at the rose merino cardi yesterday and there was no small in plum, today there is? i don't get it.
ReplyDeleteI missed the pale gray vintage oxford button up this summer! I'm still ticked.
ReplyDeletesooner girl, I felt that the Fiona ran a little big - I am usually an 8 petitie and that is what i ordered (and kept) but it is a little big in the shoulders. I kept it because I plan to wear a merino sweater underneath. If you are wearing something lighter and you don't have broad shoulders, you can get by ordering a smaller size imo. Caveat : petites may be different than regular sizes
ReplyDeletesvid
Something else that I wanted from a previous season was the argyle skirt from last fall. I loved it! I'm a bit argyle obsessed.
ReplyDeleteOh, how could I forget! The Garnet Copenhagen Coat from last year. I could have gotten it in my size on sale but hesitated for a minute and it was GONE! :( Boo hoo!!!..still makes me sad just thinking about it...
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if the Cashmere shrunken shawl cardigan is available anywhere in New York? Even with the promo codes it's $110 with shipping, so I'd rather just pick it up somewhere. I haven't seen it at Columbus Circle or Rockafeller center.
ReplyDeletedrewablank: I saw the campo d'fiore dress on ebay just this morning. There were two offered, I think in different sizes. You may want to check there!
ReplyDeleteRe: the factory outlets...I have a j.crew outlet about 15 minutes from me, which is the closest I have to a jcrew near me! I live in a mountain town that has a sad little mall--unfortunately no great stores. This past saturday, I was feeling the urge to go SEE clothes. I know this sounds sad, but I just wanted to try something on and feel some actual clothing rather than just looking online. Every time I go to the outlets though, I get SO disappointed! The quality is terrible yet the prices aren't that cheap. They had some "jackie" cardis, for example, that were $60, and some "bellas" for about $150. Every time I go, I get frustrated and swear I'll never go back. I think this was my last time (I promise!) The BR outlet is the same for me, although their prices are a little better.
Oh, and regarding which item I missed out on...The Jacinda jacket. Last time I checked, the honey glaze in my size was gone! I was waiting on it to go on a little bit of a sale. : (
ReplyDeleteThe jersey knit pants in size six! I did a find it for me and no luck!
ReplyDeleteThis is OT but does anyone know if item no 98032 the glass bead ladybug necklace is available in b&m stores on sale? Am looking for one.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks to BGD! I got the chiffon belts at sale price!
Anon 9:53 AM, I have seen these cardies in this color all over manhattan stores. Not sure the sizes, but try calling them.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Sequin Chiffon Ruffle Cardigan. About a month back, when J Crew was offering the 20% discount for trying out their PS service, I actually had the Sequin Chiffon Ruffle Cardigan in my cart. But at the last minute, I went for the Crystal Button Bird's Eye Cardigan instead. Bad move on my part. I received the Crystal Button Bird's Eye Cardigan and I don't really like it. The buttons are way too heavy for the sweater and does not hang well. They face down and you can't really see the pretty crystals. I really regret not getting the Chiffon Ruffle.
ReplyDeleteMy 2 cents is: If you keep a close eye on the site and sale section over the next few months, I think 90% of these items will be back. Only a couple of them are online only, so there must have been lots of them made to stock all the stores. If the warehouse is actually s/o of all of these, which I doubt, they will get restock from store returns
ReplyDeleteFidele, I am so jealous- and J Crew Girl in Canada, I completely agree with you. I'm really sad about not getting the chiffon ruffle cardigan. :(
ReplyDeleteFFM - Good call on hunting down the cashmere Audrey dress via CS. Now that I just sat down with my soup for a late lunch, I'll pick up the phone and see what they can do for me. Will report back...
ReplyDeleteAMY...thanks for answering my questions the other day about the Kelsey tank dress. I bought it yesterday and I really like it...can't wait to wear it.
ReplyDeleteAmy - I'm tickled pink to find another Alexandria girl! Especially one with fashion sense. We must chat (and shop). Love your cultural blog. The flora and fauna look interesting too. You reminded me that I still need to finish posting my Italy travelogues and photos (from 2 years ago!).
ReplyDeleteI hope to run into you at J.Crew!
Does anyone remember jewel button cardigan (I really dont know the actual name, but buttons look like rocks from engagement rings) from last year? I got one that is kinda orangy-red and I really like it! I know it also came in black and green. I really regret not getting one in black since the buttons were so pretty and i could have worn it out to dinners a lot. Too bad!
ReplyDeleteanon@1:08, I haven't seen the cashmere shawl cardigans in any stores recently but I do have both in blue and green that I'm willing to part with. If you're interested, you can email me @ shop316@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI think the reason they all show up eventually in the sale section online is b/c when they get returns, they hold onto them and dont put them immediately back into inventory. maybe it has something to do with selling items at full price vs selling them on sale? Hmm, all I know is that things "sell out" and then 2 months later, BAM!! they are all on sale in the sale section online-in like every size. I dont get upset anymore when something sells out. I wanted that sequin chiffon ruffle sweater and it will be on sale soon!!I did get the rose chiffon tee in champagne though before it sold out, i can't wait to wear it with my black bella I got on Ebay and pearls.
ReplyDeletePS ANon-glad you got your chiffon belts!!
3-penny: Me too, that's so exciting! I just moved here about 2 months ago. What's your "home" B&M- Pentagon City? I have been to that one and the one in Georgetown, but not Tyson's Corner yet. :)
ReplyDeleteSooner Girl, so glad you liked the dress. I love it, too!
This a bit off-topic and a stretch, but does anyone have the chino cooper jacket in a 4 or 6, rhubarb color? I'd love to trade for the 6 I have in the khaki color!
Definitely the ruffle neck merino cardigans!
ReplyDeleteanon @3:02: I have the Jewel button cardigan in Black and LOVE it! I had purchased it in Snow first, but had to size down and ended up getting the Black instead...I would definitely like to have it in a couple more colors...it's so adorable! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that cashmere pavia cardigan in grey, but it's sold out, even at astronomical prices!
ReplyDeleteThe Rockefeller Center store had a TON of double serge pencil skirts if anyone is still looking for one.
ReplyDeleteAmy - according to the sale section on the J.Crew site, they have the Cooper chino jacket in bright rhubarb in sizes 4 and 6. I don't know if this is accurate, but at least it's a shot.
ReplyDeleteYes, I basically live at Pentagon City and everyone there knows my name. But Tysons is my 2nd choice if I'm out that way.
We'll have to do an outing. Welcome to the area!
^^Thanks! Would love to do an outing!
ReplyDeleteI just can't justify buying the chino jacket again, even though it's a different color and all...and of course, I got the first one on final sale so can't return it. Boo.
amy: call CS and ask if they will let you exchange...you aren't actually returning, so they won't be losing out on any money...it never hurts to ask! :)
ReplyDeleteanonymous - I have the jeweled cardigan from last fall purchased in late November 2007. I have the fuschia/rhubarb color. It's very pretty and you're right, I use it to dress up silk camis in the evening when it gets cold.
ReplyDeleteI also bought this year's dream jewel button cardigan in graphite navy. It's also cute.
I wasn't able to find last year's for sale anywhere. But there is a pre-owned older version in pink on ebay in size medium. http://cgi.ebay.com/J-Crew-Cardigan-Sweater-Jeweled-btns-Wool-Cashmere-sz-M_W0QQitemZ200255995037QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200255995037&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Good luck!
jacquelyn: my b&m in Charleston, SC, had a ton of the shoe tees on Saturday night. In fact, I bought one. :) Give them a call, they might still have one in your size. 843-534-1640 Good luck and let me know if you find one.
ReplyDeleteFor those of you that have the double serge skirt...how does it fit? I had to size up in the straight denim skirt and the vintage cordouroy skirt so I'm wondering if that will be true for the double serge? ( I think Im going to order one even though it is on back order until December!)
ReplyDeleteFFM, so you do have that one! I am actually wearing my red-orange one right now and love it. I wish they made more of these this year. The only jewel button cardi I like this year is the color block one but I am just not sure about the color. Yellow is just not my thing.
ReplyDelete3PP, this is NOT the cardi I was talking about. The one you gave link to is cashmere. The one I have is just wool. But I love it nonetheless.
cori: I have the skirt, and I sized down. The cut is off, with too much room at the waist. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteweab: totally agree about kater - she does rock! I'm going to wear my vest this weekend, even though it's probably not going to be cool enough. I just can't wait! :)
ReplyDelete3PP, I just looked again, that cardi is actually not cashmere, but some blend too. But still, its not the same. I have never seen this one in the store or online.
ReplyDeleteaw math teacher and weab - thanks! you guys are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI was at the tyson's store today (mclean va) to return a sweater that was too big, and the sale section was pretty blah. But the green double-strand necklace with blue flower that was an in-store item only (or at least I'm pretty sure it was) was on sale for 99, with an extra 40% off. I'm not sure if anyone is lusting after it, but they had at least two there - the one I tried on, and then one in the case.
The also had several purple rose merino cardis and I know that has been a hot topic of late...:) they weren't marked-down or anything, but just in case someone is trying to locate one...
I called CS to check if they have the Bella (again). I want other colors! No luck, but I did ask about the inventory issues. The rep (chatty but wants to remain anonymous) said they are not doing very well compared to past seasons, and they are taking a new approach of minimizing the start-up inventory before figuring out which items to bring in more. So he expects to see many hot items to resurface. Sounds plausible?
ReplyDeleteOh, I just remembered... does anyone have the black pinguin-sequin t-shirt from last year. I can't tell you how much I love this T and in the summer I wear it every week (laundry schedule permitting). I just noticed a really small hole in it (after all that wear - no surprise here) and I am really upset. They have not come up with anything similar this year. *sigh* Does anyone remember if that T came in any other patterns (other than the pinguin)?
ReplyDeletekater: What's your verdict on the green necklace with blue flower? It's quite hot on ebay. I haven't seen on in person, and wonder if it's as pretty as described by the sellers :)
ReplyDeleteanon @ 3:02: I have the Jewel Button cardi in Navy, Azalea, and also in a Canary Yellow (which is a color that I don't often wear becaise it is NOT very kind to my skintone!) But they are so beautiful and soft! I love them and wish that I could find one in Black!
ReplyDeletekater: What were they showing the Plum Chiffon Flower cardi with? My PS suggested the Plum Hammered Silk tank, but that is quite a bit of plum in my opinion!! LOL.
Anony@4:28 Are you talking about the black on black sequin penguin tee...I like mine too:) I save it for fall/winter though and wear it with wool sweaters.
ReplyDeletekater - thanks for the heads up about the green flower clasp necklace in Tysons. I have trouble resisting anything with a flower clasp. $60 sure beats anything over $100 in costume jewelry (as we collectively and emphatically made our point a couple of days ago!).
ReplyDeleteI thought the sale seciton was poor at Tyson's too, but Pentagon City wasn't bad. I visited the J.Crew outlet in Leesburg yesterday and they didn't have much at all in my size. Although, they did have a nice collection of bella jackets, I believe in velvet...
vivian: you know, this is probably going to sound unbelievable, but I didn't love it! I tried it on, and I think it was something about the mixture of the green beads and blue flower that I didn't like. It just didn't pop for me, and I didn't pick it up, even at that price and with my j crew obsession! So I think that speaks volumes! Plus, I saw it next to the new version of it with the black beads and gold flower, and that one is just STUNNING (it's online and the pictures don't do it justice). So I think I will wait for that one instead.
ReplyDeleteHope that helps!
should be "j crew jewelry obsession" although I certainly have a generalized j crew obsession too ;)
ReplyDeletekater: I'm also eyeing the new version with black beads and gold flower!! I had a CS rep offer it to me for $79.99 last week because they screwed up my order for the opera ring necklace. Should I take it? I haven't had a chance to see it in person, but I like the colors based on what I see in the photo.
ReplyDeleteKater: Sorry gotta pick your brain again - what do you think of the waterfall necklace?
ReplyDeleteOh. my. god. Vivian. TAKE IT!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI was bowled over when I saw it. Seriously. It is so so so so so pretty. Much better than the green/blue one. The flower is a pretty shiny gold. Do you like gold? It's not overpowering by any means, but you'd have to have your other accessories in gold to coordinate. Well, I think you would anyway, but that's just my opinion ;)
kater: We're talking about the same necklace, right? Double-strand flower necklace
ReplyDelete$175.00 item 98038
She said I could buy 7 of them (long story about the opera ring necklace...) and she put a note in the order for reference. I'm more of a silver/platinum/gal but I do gold occasionally, more so with shoes.
Thanks, Vivian!
ReplyDeleteI am sad that I didn't buy the Dream Soho dress in Eggplant. It has been sold out in my size (XS) for a few weeks now. I just love sweater dresses, but since I already have the Dream Silvie in charcoal, I don't need another one in a boring color like grey or black, which are the only ones available in my size in the Soho.
ReplyDeleteYes vivian! That is it! Just to confirm, the link is here.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures do not do it justice though. To me, it looks like the flower is painted online, but it isn't. The whole surface is a shiny gold, and I think the reflection of it in the photo is causing it to look matte, which it isn't. It is so pretty. Really. I'm not much of a gold person either - mostly platinum/silver like you (big surprise considering our identical tastes on everything else - ha ha!), and I loved it. Truly. The beads are a wonderful smoky color, and the contrast with the gold is just stunning. Seriously, I would buy it at that price in a heart beat. It is SO MUCH better than the green/blue one.
Can you really order 7? 7 of the same necklace, or 7 necklaces in general at that price? Want to order me one too? Just kidding - sort of...;)
kater: Hmmmm, it's not final sale so if I don't like it, I can return it. As for ordering you one, it's a deal if you're really interested!
ReplyDeletevivian: are you serious?!? I would love to get one at that price, and could pay you over paypal with shipping and everything. OMG - really, I know you will like it, and you are so kind to offer to let me get one at that price too!
ReplyDeletemy email is katherinerieder AT hotmail DOT com. Just let me know what you want/need me to do!
YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!
I don't want to take away one of your 7 necklaces though if you have them all picked out...:(
ReplyDeletemath teacher: I just called and all they had was size M. Thanks for the tip, though.
ReplyDeleteI did have J.Crew do a We'll Find It for me after the item was canceled but came back with nothing.
If anyone else sees a shoe tee in size XL (item 97627) please let me know. I really want one!
jacquelyn: Call Orlando 407-226-9732...they tend to have plenty of tees in the sale section. I haven't been out there lately, but it might be worth a try. :)
ReplyDeletekater: Yes, why not? You're always so good helping everyone out, so why can't I do this small thing for you? I'll call this evening, and let you know by email. I'm supposed to get a price match of $79.99 for any (7) necklace and overnight shipping. I need 5 so I'll be fine (long story, save it for the cows).
ReplyDeleteBut she recommended this necklace in particular as a replacement and jotted down the item number in my order as reference. Just keep our fingers crossed that she did put in the notes like she said she would. I just can't deal with any more haggling with J.Crew CS.
jacquelyn: so sorry my b&m didn't have your size. I hope someone else comes through for you and you get your tee!
ReplyDeleteAs for the topic, I can't remember anything that I wish I'd bought, but I can remember an item that my sister didn't buy that she STILL talks about. She really wanted the orange zebra cardigan last year, but b/c it was dry clean only, she didn't get it. Then, when they didn't have any more, she changed her mind and wished she'd bought it. So, if anyone ever sees one pop up in a medium, let me know. I would love to surprise her with at at Christmas.
vivian: good luck! I hope all goes well with your call. You deserve some good luck with JC. And, it's so nice that you can do something for kater after she's been so helpful to some of us! :)
ReplyDeleteKater: I haven't found THE necklace to replace, although I've thought about this particular one and the waterfall. I may or may not get the five that I need from J.Crew anyway. So no worries - if you really want the black-gold double strand flower necklace, I'll be happy to be your enabler :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of the waterfall anyway?
Vivian: you have SERIOUSLY made my day! thank you thank you thank you! I'm so excited, and really hope the CS noted it like she/he said! I completely understand about no more haggling with them - trust me! So hopefully it will all just be a piece of cake. And let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do to help!
ReplyDeleteAs for the waterfall - I haven't seen this one in person, and really tend not to get the best impressions of these necklaces - especially the darker ones - from these pics. It looks really pretty on the model, but I would be worried about it hanging funny, because the beads seem to go so far around the necklace, if that makes any sense. Like a strand of them getting caught in your collarbone on the side or something, and then just sitting there horizontally. Yes, I know I'm paranoid...:) It would probably just be beautiful like it is on the model...
But like you said, you could always take it back if it doesn't work! Maybe it's worth a try? You already have the pearl double strand flower necklace right? That is another one of my favorites...I also think the bubble necklace is really pretty in blue. Do you have that one? Are you considering it?
vivian, I have this years waterfall and both from last year. I also have the double strand in the guava which I love. Can you tell that I am one who loves their jewelry, usually..... although besides the waterfall I think most of this season is a miss (I like the yellow lady bug. I tend to buy with a coupon b/c it is really overpriced but I am a sucker. I am someone who doesn't feel "dressed" without the right necklace. I think it can make an outfit!
ReplyDeleteThis waterfall is nice, I like the darker hue and it you pair it with the right thing it's great, i love how it looks with the honey wheat color (or whatever the name is) If you can get a deal, I say GO FOR IT
(enabler, enabler)
kater: I have mixed feelings about the waterfall because of the color and the plastic beads. It hangs so nicely on the model but then again, I'm no model.
ReplyDeleteI'm also considering the bubble necklace (in black) but not sure if I can carry it off. I'm vertically challenged, and may end up looking like I'm wearing a dinner plate.
I love my double strand pearl flower necklace, and have worn it twice to many compliments :)
Before adding the shipping costs to mail it to you, the double strand flower necklace will be $86.59 (including tax - I keep telling JC they are calculating my sales tax wrongly but they won't budge!). Does that sound OK? What shipping option would you suggest?
Kater and Vivian - Sorry to horn in on your conversation. You are both right about that black bead/gold flower necklace. It is killer, plus the beads being smoky instead of jet black make it amazingly versatile. It is a fantastic purchase. I briefly owned the green/blue, but returned it. Just not "special" enough. All of my real jewelry is platinum or white gold, so I really enjoy playing with the gold in my J Crew jewelry.
ReplyDeleteI always think of SATC and Carrie with Aiden's original engagement ring when I wear gold jewelry.
Vivian - to make you feel better about the gold opera ring necklace. It is a HUGE pain. It is always getting tangled and knotted. I spent 26 minutes yesteray untangling it, yet again.
caw: Thanks for your input! Guess I can tell by now who the JC jewelry fans are! Does the waterfall hang nicely (and effortlessly)?
ReplyDeletethat sounds perfect! I'm so excited! As for shipping - maybe priority mail with insurance and delivery confirmation? That is what I always use with ebay, and it seems to work well. If it's easier for you to use fed ex or ups instead of the post office though, just say so! I want this to be as easy as possible for you as you are doing me such a HUGE favor!!!
ReplyDeleteDid you see caw's post about the waterfall? the more I look at the model wearing it, the more I'm liking it. I'm so thankful we're all here to enable each other!!!! Because now I'm digging this necklace!
You have the double-strand in guava too right? What about the yellow color? Too much like the pearl version? I debated for a long time about guava or the yellow. I ultimately went with guava, but thought the yellow would be so pretty with silvers and light pinks, and would pop against a black sheath dress, or black suit...
jenn_brak: Ha, another SATC fan! I sure remember that scene.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm wary of gold most of the time, but I'm starting to make an exception for JC gold costume jewelry pieces. Thanks for the tip on the opera ring necklace - maybe it's not such a big loss. The fact that I stalked it for months made it perhaps more endearing that what it really is.
kater: The post office sounds good to me. I hope the CS notes are there. I just hate to disappoint you. I've learned the hard way that sometimes CS reps don't do what they said they would. Will call when I get home.
ReplyDeleteI don't have the double strand guava, just the pearls. It's too close to the pearls. I don't quite like yellow as I'm not very good at coordinating my colors. Prefer my costume jewelry to be more versatile.
I have the double strand in the yellow. I was so excited that they had a shorter double strand necklace. I do think it would be too similar to the pearl to have both. I double up most of my J Crew double strand necklaces, but loved that they finally had a shorter one.
ReplyDeletevivian: don't worry, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Trust me, I've been there with the crazy CS's. Just the fact that you're willing to try for me is so nice, and sweet, and wonderful...:) Just let me know how it goes, and what you decide about the waterfall. And if you need any more enabling about it...:)
ReplyDeletejenn brak: The shorter double strands is very pretty! What a great idea to double up the double strands! I'll try that.
ReplyDeletekater: I'm going to take a look at this necklace before considering the waterfall. The good thing is that the notes, unlike a coupon, has no immediate expiry date. Gotta run now, and finish up some work before heading home. Email you later.
ReplyDeletei couldn't believe it when the Jersey Knit Pants were back ordered! especially since it was a reviewed item on here and everyone said they hated them! i was going to wait until they went on sale (who wants to spend $98 on fancy stretch pants, i know.. i know...) but i decided i better buy them now just in case and they were sold out in almost every small size (i need a 2, which of course was the first to go, they said) i won't get them until nov 25 :(
ReplyDeleteDue to an ordering problem with the Bella-- long story short, got the navy and charcoal, were told that they'd be cancelled, so ordered the light heather nut (my third choice)... But now they're all shipping and I might have an extra (or two), because I can't keep all three. Thought I'd give you ladies dibs before they're returned.
ReplyDeleteWool herringbone T10 navy or T14 light heather nut. I'll probably keep the charcoal (T12). Will look to recuperate what I spent on them... $135, tax + shipping included.
The problem is, I'm actually abroad right now, so a lot of this verifying-J. Crew-sent-me-the-right-stuff (so far, they always have!) and mailing and etc. will be done through my dad... So we're on his time schedule. But if you let me know if you're interested, I won't ask him to return it.
Sorry to jump in here, but I was hoping to solict your collective advice before making a big purchase that I might regret:
ReplyDeleteWhat do you ladies think of the Jamie bag? I'm looking at the metallic-leather version in particular (I love soft gold metallic accessories), but I'd love to hear feedback on any version. What is the leather like? Is it durable? Does it need a lot of pampering? Are both straps (shoulder and across-body) comfortable? Is it big enough to fit, say, a 13-inch laptop? Is it worth $500?
Thanks ladies (and gents)!
And, to add, you can contact me through my profile.
ReplyDeletejennbrak-I love that SATC episode, plus the whole Carrie/Aiden situation! Then again, I love ALL SATC episodes.
ReplyDeleteVivan, I love the double strand pearls. The waterfall is really nice but if I didn't have it, i could live, it's not an every day piece...and if you can get the black one cheap, you may go for that. Or just get both, ha ha. I am a jcrew jewelry and bella lovah!
this is probably a long shot but did anyone here purchase the herringbone walking coat in 2006? it's knee-length, belted, hooded and super cute. i wanted it but it sold out in my size (i need a 2 or petite 4) and i've searched everywhere for it. i found one on ebay, but when i got it, it was a fake (can you believe that?) so i returned it. thanks in advance...
ReplyDeleteAuryane - The Jamie Bag - I love it in the tanned leather colors. Was not a big fan of the metallic version of this bag. THe leather seems like it has been covered in foil or something in person. Just does not seem as luxurious as the others, but I am not sure why. That could just be me. It is a nicely sized bag, but NO WAY would it fit a laptop.
ReplyDeleteI am a metallic fan too, but something about this and the new metallic uptown tote just missed for me.

ReplyDeletekristen r: I had completely forgotten about the dandelion print. I loved these shoes, too.
ReplyDeleteOK, I know all you Aficionadas probably know about this, but... I am a J. Crew associate and looking at many of these items (including the wool twill pencil skirt, double serge pencil skirt, cashmere cardigan in heather plum AND the merino rose cardigan mentioned yesterday) I know we have a LOT of them at my store. I would HIGHLY recommend that you all call the catalog and try to order again. When/if the customer service rep tells you that they are sold out, simply ask if you can do a store search. This is a free service for any full-priced item. The computer searches to see which stores have the item you are looking for and contacts us. We ship it straight to you and often waive shipping (can't guarantee that, though). You can do this for any full-priced item! It is truly a wonderful service - some of you may have had experiences where the item was not found, but keep trying. In my experience, the item is found about 80% of the time as long as it's in season (meaning not some random dress from last summer). You will hear back from the company within 48 hours. Try it, you'll love it, and hopefully get the one that got away!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted everyone to know I went to my store in Tucson, Az and it was 40% off. They had a lot of Bellas in pink and blue and several cord skirts in all colors left. They also had a lot of the graphic slub tees, some with the writing (Seize the Day, etc) some with just the graphics.
ReplyDeleteI also forgot to add that my store had the flower merino cardis in every color.
ReplyDeleteanon @ 8:00: How thoughtful of you to remind me/us. As we speak I have them looking for a Sequin Ecole in size 2!! I have taken advantage of this wonderful service before, and it is certainly much appreciated! I might add that both times they have been successful in finding the item that I was coveting! The last time I had them do a store search it was for the Sequined Herringbone Starlight Jacket (I think that is what it was called...can't remember off the cuff) and I had it within the week! :)
ReplyDeleteTo those considering the beaded waterfall necklace - I bought one at the store last weekend for $99.99 plus additional sale discount. It is $150 online :)
ReplyDeleteItem that got away: San Remo Shirtdress. Had it, then returned it and never was able to get it again.
ReplyDelete3-Penny: Be persistent about your "will find it" request for the Audrey. I know that there was an XS heathered silver returned to the Ann Arbor store within the last day or two.
I also saw shoe t-shirts at the A2 store, but did not pay attention to the sizes.
J. Crew shuffles its merchandise all over the place. Some items get recalled from the stores and sent back to catalog, only to reappear later in the stores. (This happened to me this summer. Went back to buy some pants I'd try on the week before and--poof--all were gone. They'd been called back to the mother ship! Two weeks after my pants arrived from catalog, they were back in my store. Totally annoying. At least, I didn't pay any shipping ;)) Some merchandise gets shuffled from one store to the next, including sale merchandise. The Ann Arbor store sale section is chock full of novelty t-shirts. Maybe its a college town thing.
I'm going to try the "Find it for you" for the sequin ecole jacket. I want it SO bad.
ReplyDeleteVivian, I'm not sure if I read this correctly but if you do have an extra double strand flowered necklace (the new black one with the gold flower), is there any way you would consider selling it to me? I love love love this necklace and have been hesitant on purchasing it at full price on the website....if that is possible at all, that would be soo great....but I understand if it is not possible.
ReplyDeleteYou can reach me at as01bc@hotmail.com
Thank you :) Again I completely understand if it is not possible, but I thought I would check just in case.
on the serge skirt - I actually ordered one in blue with the PS 20% off and returned it.
ReplyDeleteIt fitted true to size - I always take a size 6 on the bottom and it's just right. But while I love the blue color the fabric is just a little thick for Southern Cal, and with the extra fuzziness it seems to make my hips look wider. If they use the same fabric for the coat I don't know why they would think it's appropriate for a skirt...
The metallic herringbone clea just made it to the final sale in all sizes. Website in now an extra 20% off FS.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cass...just ordered it along with the Saffron Lydia (I am crazy for those things and have one in just about every color!)
ReplyDeleteAnon at 11:46. I am surprised to read your comment. So if you live in a warm climate, you can't imagine why they would make a skirt out of thicker wool? A little self-centric, if you ask me. I think that skirt is gorgeous and very appropriate for NE climate. I am size 2 and it looked absolutely fabulous on me. Just because something does not fit you or suit you in any way, does not mean it would not work for others.
ReplyDeleteanon @ 10:23--i agree! The fabric is wonderful
ReplyDeleteAnon at 10:23 & 33: Not self-centric (play nice!), but trying to be practical.
ReplyDeleteYou will need a pair of boots to wear with a thick wool skirt if you want keep warm. I also said that it's a bit thick for 'Southern Cal'. I didn't say that everyone living elsewhere shouldn't buy it.
I hope I am not responding to trolls...
Anon at 11.23. Here is a quote: "If they use the same fabric for the coat I don't know why they would think it's appropriate for a skirt..." Does that ring the bell? So you can't possibly imagine how this skirt would be appropriate. I call it self-centric. The rest of us DO find it appropriate. And please safe your "troll" comments. They are uncalled for.
ReplyDeletea: I'm so sorry! I'm out of the two extra double-flower strand necklaces for now. I may have an extra later, and will let you know if you're still interested. I suppose you have seen the necklace in person - the website photos don't look very appealing. I haven't seen the necklace but from all descriptions, it's a keeper. Will keep you posted.
ReplyDeleteNo problem at all Vivian, I just thought I'd check. It truly is a beautiful piece, you will be very happy with it :) If you do end up getting an extra or are able to order an extra somehow, I would be very interested if you would consider selling it to me. My email again is as01bc@hotmail.com. Thank you so much! And I hope you do end up ordering this necklace for yourself since it truly is a beautiful piece and very versatile!
ReplyDeleteThe Dream Tie Cardigan in deep eggplant in XS. I admired it the first time I saw it in the catalog, but now I see it's sold out in that size and color. I was hoping to score in on sale at some point, as my budget has been a little tight lately. I should know better though... I've been burned too many times waiting for something to go on sale! I wonder if this sweater is in the stores...
ReplyDeleteThis is 100 something posts late, but in reply to what a said about outlets:
ReplyDeleteI think it depends upon what outlet you shop at, because I know the one in Williamsburg never has anything that I didn't previously see in the store (and not cheap knock-offs, I got two fully lined (tweed and a velvet) bellas there for about $120/each + student discount). However, I've been to another J. Crew outlet that didn't have anything I had ever seen in a real J. Crew store. Outlets have buyers too, I guess they can choose whether to buy the outlet brand items or past season items.
I'm wondering if any of you know about the Dream Soho Dress ($138). It is only available in Graphite or Black on the website to purchase, but it is photographed & shows a Dark Eggplant color.
ReplyDeleteI've called a few stores and went into my local JCrew and all have said they never received the Eggplant color! Have any of you seen it in your store or were you able to order it from the website?
I am curious whether they are releasing it later in the fall or if it's just sold out?
i actually called about my dk eggplant dream soho dress today, i placed the order about a month ago and at the time it was supposed to be shipped on sept 17, which has gone and passed. so the sa told me today that she checked with their shipping/receiveing department and was told that they wont' be getting any shipments at all, as the entire replenishment order for the drk eggplant dream soho dress was cancelled. :(
ReplyDeleteon a different note, i got my wool bella in sz0 charcoal today, and unfortunately it fits a bit big for me in the bust, and i really was hoping for a fitted/tailored look, so if anyone's interested in it (hopefuly i'm allowed to post this, if not, please remove this part) i'm willing to part with it for $120 CAD shipped (from canada). just looking to cover what i paid for the jkt, which was $100.
jcrewjunkie - I loved the gewel button cardi in canary! I only stuck with grey, though.
ReplyDeleteThe item I missed is the Cheshire top coat in tomato. Someone just had one in the swap exch, but it was a 2. It's probably an odd red, anyway, so I will just let it go. Also...I got the cute cardigan sweater this season w/the ribbon tie at the neck. Reminds me of the Cheshire.
I am the anon that wondered about the material for the serge skirt. I just got the saffron serge day coat, and the material seems thinner than the skirt. I was just at a retail store in Pasadena and double checked the skirt's material and it's definitely plusher. They do have a few blue ones, for those who like them.
ReplyDeleteThe serge coat runs large. I wear size 8 coat (and I own about 6 or 7 J Crew coats), and the size 8 for this one is 3" too large on the chest, and the sleeves went down to my finger tips.
The color is called saffron, but it's identical to the fleur peeptoe shoes in the warm marigold color. Go figure.
a: Will definitely let you know about the double strand flower necklace. Do you have other J.Crew necklaces?
ReplyDeleteDid you get your Bellas? JC has a few in inventory that may or not not actually ship.
How about the Italian bouclé pencil skirt honey glaze! I mean is that REALLY gone?? Has anyone ever seen it in there store? I know it says online only but i have seen many of these "online only" items in my B&M. Would like to get that one
ReplyDeleteAlso--just saw the sparkle tweed Ecole in INStyle that so many love--did it ever even show up on the site?? I don't remember it--is it in this wheat color only or another as well?? Was it in the stores or something? LOVE IT!
The bikini BUTTERFLY print bottom in a size Medium b/c JCrew sent me two tops! Then it was sold out:(
ReplyDeleteAnon at 9:15 - This is prob. a little late but I am interested in the Bella size 0. Is it still available?
ReplyDeleteI wish I had purchased the Snow Leopard Simone Peacoat. It is sold out in my size but I'm still hoping it will re-emerge at some point!! It's probably a good thing I didn't purchase it....I'm not sure how often I would actually wear it!
ReplyDeletelauren h: have you tried a "we will find it" search through J.Crew customer service? I've read a number of people finding this coat in stores.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for the J.Crew double strand necklace in the pink color. I am so sorry I missed out on it! If you know of one, would you email me, please?
ReplyDelete
