"Thanks!" to Mary who shared with us that Banana Republic sent an email (click here) announcing that they are having their Fall sale with up to 40% on items (in-stores and on-line).
I got this email from BR and checked out the site...it appears that the prices are marked down to about the same as if you had purchased with the extra 30% off, only now the sizes are more limited and there isn't any free shipping for non-cardholders...apparently a common practice among retailers.
FFM, BR (and gap, etc) only charges $7 for standard delivery, regardless of amount - a far better deal than when J.Crew extorts $14.50 to ship one cashmere sweater :-)
I much prefer companies like BR and Nordstrom that charge a flat rate over J.Crew's shipping charges, which I think are absurd. Of course, nothing beats free shipping ... :-)
FFM, Free return shipping rocks, I agree! Because that can run up a pretty penny, especially if one orders shoes. It's also why I love Zappos - plus they ship things overnight, even when standard delivery is chosen. Zappos, to me, defines flawless shipping. I wish they'd take over shipping J.Crew's orders :-)
I would order SO much more from JC if they had better shipping rates... or just a flat rate like everyone else!!! Our store has really limited merchandise and I have a young toddler, so online shopping can really get me in trouble because it's so much easier and a great selection ... but when I get to JC's checkout and shipping is like 10-15% of my order total, it doesn't make sense, even with extra 20% off final sale!
Lindsey: I completely agree. Not to mention the amount of time they take to ship your order. It says 3 days on paper, but you know you're going to be waiting 4-5 days. I don't understand why they charge so much either. Not to mention that I also get taxed.
Dear J.Crew Aficionadas & Aficionados: Please feel free (and encouraged) to share your thoughts and opinions. :) However, please note that this is still a personal blog. So comments that are considered inappropriate (e.g. obscene, racist, homophobic, personal attacks, rude, and just plain mean) will be removed.
