"Thanks!" to Kate (check out her lovely Moodboard blog), who let us know about J.Crew's Jenna Lyons being spotted at Fashion Week. The above image (from stylecaster.com), shows Ms. Lyons sitting with Garance Dore at the Vena Cava show. She looks so great, loves it!
"Thanks!" also to Chris (check out her great A Little "Crew"zy blog), who let us know about Jenna Lyons attendance at the Kate Betts' book party in NYC. The above image (from vogue.com), shows Ms. Lyons working a lot of layers topped off with her signature frames.
What are your thoughts on Jenna Lyons' outfits? Do you like her overall style? :)
I can't figure out the fur thing around her arms. Or is that someone behind her? It's very strange.
ReplyDeleteAmanda: LOL! What is that? I can't tell if it is a shawl or part of the coat. It might be a really lovely touch, but it's hard to tell due to the way its photographed.
ReplyDeleteTo me, Jenna's style is like many of the kooky catalog shots -- interesting, I suppose, and inspirational for the designers who carry out her visions. But I personally wouldn't really wear any of the outfits she puts together in quite the same way she wears them. I would look like an idiot who got dressed in the dark! I think it helps that she's so tall. She probably has a commanding presence IRL. If you're going to dress like that, you really have to own it.:)
ReplyDeleteI wanted to briefly relay a non-JC interesting situation I encountered the other night. I went to AT loft to return some stuff my mom gave me for my birthday. Had gift receiots and everything. They asked for ID and would only give me back a merch. credit, not cash, which I know my mom paid. And here's the true kicker -- I can't even sell the giftcard! It's non-transferable. Whoever redeems it will be asked for ID and it is not able to be used online.
I am stunned. Not only was I basically treated like a thief by the SA who processed the return, but I'm also trapped into spending my $112 at their store! I'll find something eventually, but is this how it's going to be now? Has anyone experience this in any other stores? I'm blown away.
Love Garance Dore & her blog. Nice to see that she's met Jenna, maybe she'll style & shoot one of JC's catalogs just as she did for Club Monaco. From what I've seen of Garance's personal style, it's the one I aspire to, more so than Jenna's as it's more wearable (after all, she's a street style photographer, so she needs to be able to move & work in it!). And though I recognize I'd look silly copying Jenna's getup's as is, I appreciate the color story & layering ideas that I can adapt to my body frame & lifestyle.
ReplyDelete@Elaine, thanks for sharing the AT Loft experience. If this is what little retail chains are coming to, then they're going to lose my money! I'm going to give my loyalty to Nordstrom and other retailers who are more flexible with their return policies. The merchandise credit stinks; if I didn't like their style & merchandise in the first place, why should I be forced to spend my gift money there?!! As it is, right now I've been carrying merch credits for WHBM & BR for 3+ years because I can't find anything I like enough to buy there -- wish I could swap them for JC or Madewell.
Love Garance, not loving Jenna's Jeffrey Dahmer-esque glasses in the first pic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elaine. I think Jenna's style is interesting, but I don't think she's chic or put together in the way that I would like to be. That second outfit might have benefitted from a different camera angle, so perhaps it isn't really as unflattering as it looks. She's definitely looked better thank in these pictures. I feel like she's trying too hard to be "fashiony".
ReplyDeleteI think she looks ridiculous. I really do not think those glasses are flattering at all, and there is too much going on with her look.
ReplyDeleteGarance looks lovely, but then she always does.
Elaine, if you had gift receipts instead of the originals, I can't blame them for not returning cash. Usually the receipts confirm the price paid, but not the way it was tendered. Honestly, I don't know any clothing stores that would have done differently with a gift receipt. I have returned items to the Loft (which I loathe) and used the credit at Ann Taylor in the past, so that might be an option for you.
Jenna has great style, but what is up with those pants? soooo not flattering. Make her look more "hip heavy" and just heavier in general than she really is.
ReplyDeletePosture, Jenna, posture!
ReplyDeleteThe outfit is only meh for me. I agree the pants are a bit weird, but when you're 6 feet tall and slim I suppose you can get away with more.
silver_lining, I am waiting at the airport gate and literally LOL'd at your comment, much to the stares of my fellow passengers. It's so funny, because it's true! Every time I see Jenna Lyons wearing a pair of huge frames I think she is singlehandedly trying to bring back 1970's glasses. What's next, the dickey?
ReplyDeleteI have a strong dislike for those glasses.
ReplyDeleteJenna is very pretty and seems to get fashion without needing to let her clothes WEAR her (for the most part)... but nothing on earth could make me like those glasses.
It's like she wants to be unattrative or something... It kills me, because I really do admire her. Meh.
J'adore Garance (but you knew that, right?)...
ReplyDeleteIMHO it is very dangerous for anyone in the public eye to act like/ think like - or as shown in these photos, dress like - they believe their own PR.
Elaine,
ReplyDeleteYes,kitsmommy is right. If you have gift receipts all stores I have ever shopped at give you store credit. That is correct. Justice for my daughter is the same way. So is JCPenny. Did Christmas returns to both last weekend and got merchandise store credit with my gift receipts.
In regards to gift receipts, I returned some items to Talbots after Christmas and had one gift receipt. For the other items, the SA was able to look them up on my mother's account and confirm she had bought them. They then gave me a gift card for the cost of the returned items, which is actually quite nice since I need to get a new pair of dress pants for work.
ReplyDeleteThose glasses ARE creepy, silver_lining nailed it.
ReplyDeleteNYFW is so insufferable. These people need to realize they are not little edie or coco.
Oh I so agree. Those glasses have got to go! Jenna has an amazing frame, why is she trying to make the least of it with the pants?
ReplyDeleteLOL, xoxo, at the dickey. WFF or silver lining, we need you to write some promotional copy.
serenitysea, I thought the same thing. It does seem like she's trying to look unattractive!
ReplyDeleteThose glasses are ATROCIOUS.
Elaine, that sucks. I mean, it's reasonable to give you a gift card for a return with a gift receipt but they didn't have to be such jerks about it. And wtf is with it being non transferable? What is the point of that!?!?
The beauty of Jenna's face is in its play of angles. If her vision in fact needs correction (talking eyesight here, not fashion) and the glasses are not just to market frames, I'd like to see her in large round specs.
ReplyDeleteJenna is wearing my dad's glasses from the 1980s! We all have different tastes and styles, but I just do not like those glasses or her pants. She can definitely pull off any look she likes, though.
ReplyDeleteAhhh. Must be the difference between a gift receipt and an original receipt, because original receipt gives you back the $$ the way it was paid.
ReplyDeleteI'm still pissed off about not being able to unload it or even use it online. That to me is just ridiculous. Worth checking into to see if I can use it at regular AT .... Loft just holds no appeal for me. The few things I even sort of like are either not on promo (or sold out by the time they are) or the fabric has too much of a synthetic component.
Also, surprise, surprise. No 'Meet Marissa' e-mail with a FS code for me. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Love Garance and her work! Won't belabour the point of Jenna and those glasses, but check out what Marissa is wearing (in the background of the 2nd photo). She looks so polished and pulled together, and love that pop of blue on her.
ReplyDeleteI think she looks great and while alone in my opinion admit to really liking glasses (certainly nicer than the harsh Palinesque wire options out there for women). She is beautiful enough to carry it off well. As a fashion designer it's part of her job to experiment and have fun with what she wears. She isn't working in an elementary school or legal firm and it seems the fashion press is loving her this season.
ReplyDeleteI have one thing to say: lose the glasses! I'm sorry, just not a fan.
ReplyDeleteI like Marisa Webb's outfit more than Jenna's. JL seems to be trying too much to look chic. I like her heels though.
ReplyDeleteJenna's Geek Chic really doesn't do it for me anymore.
ReplyDelete@Elaine That is odd, because I had quite a different experience at Loft. I got a gift card and purchased something over the amount of the card (using my debit card for the difference). I returned that item, and they put the entire amount back on my debit card. I even asked them if that was right, and the SA didn't seem to care.
I think that Junior Soprano wants his glasses back from Jenna! Since I cannot wear contacts, I have several pairs of glasses - but I will NOT be emulating Jenna's latest fad!!! U.G.L.Y. and totally unflattering!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like Jenna's nerdy-hip low maintenance look, but I wish she would stand straighter! I'm not asking her to pose like a fashion model, just stand up straight. Better posture would have helped those black pants look less poofy.
