Review of JC's maritime stripe blazer in this post. I didn't like it. Madewell's striped cadet cardigan looks sturdier. I prefer the look of the stripes on that one, too.

ReplyDeleteGot a pair of wide legger jeans and vintage rocker jeans today. The wide legger jeans are super comfortable and perfect for spring/summer bc it's a light denim. I'm consistently a 0 or 26 in j crew pants and the 26 in these were perfect. The vintage rockers are cute but very skinny in the thighs--I had to size up to a 27 in these bc the 26s were too tight to even get on! Love both and can't wait to wear them. Hope this helps anyone considering them! I especially recommend the wide legger jeans!

Can anyone comment if Madewell's clothes fit is any different than Jcrew's? As in, is this considered Juniors. I'm asking because their sizing chart is a bit different. TIA

ReplyDeleteI wear a lot of Jcrew and Madewell and I feel like the sizing is pretty comparabl to Jcrew. Madewell may run just a hair smaller, but In general I would order your Jcrew size.
I wouldn't say that Madewell is anywhere near juniors sizing.
Just like Jcrew sizing can very so you will want to watch the desription, if it is cut to be slouchy or baggy you may want to size down for a less trendy fit.
I personally feel like the quality of items I have seen from Madewell it up to par and even surpasses items that I purchase from Jcrew. Their tees/cotton seems softer to
me.
As I mentioned before Madewell has a different market, and some perceive it as a younger market. I feel like they style their pieces to entice this market but I find in their raw form I can easily fit them in my wardrobe.
What brings me to Madewell is that I feel the pieces are not as mass produced.. I feel like they are infused with a little more personality and specific style. So the fit, cut, color, pattern tend to be more aggressive.
Few, I didn't mean for that to be such a long and wordy review but there is no going back now. In summary, I had the same feelings about Madewell, but since I have tried them out I find I'm really liking their stuff they tend to be the more interesting things I wear. Just more outside of the box.
Wolfy - Madewell is not junior sizing; I order my same size as J. Crew. Like the above commenter said, you should read descriptions (slouchy/baggy - order down for a cleaner fit), and I almost always find their dresses too short for bare-legged comfort. (I'm 5'10".)
ReplyDeleteMadewell, like Anthropologie's house brands, uses different manufacturers to make their clothes, so sometimes the clothes do not have the "Madewell" tag. Those are the instances where I find sizing to be inconsistent. You can always use the chat option to ask measurements from CS.
Wolfy: I agree with MeganCrew and Audrey about the sizing at Madewell. I have placed numerous orders in my *J.Crew size* and they have all worked out well, with the exception of the vintage rocker jeans that run small (like Tippy already said earlier). Definitely look for descriptions of how the each item fits and ask for measurements if you are still unsure.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Madewell site went online I really thought I wouldn't even consider shopping there, but like I said earlier, I actually like more of their clothes now than I do J.Crew. The quality is better than J.Crew, IMO and if you look past the styling you can find pieces that work for all ages. I have been very pleased with everything I've received so far. :)
Can I get more feed back on the vintage rocker? I have gather I should size up...

I have an athletic fit meaning my legs are typicially a size larger than my waist...this means buying jeans online is rarely successful.

MeganCrew: The Vintage Rockers I tried were the chasm wash. They have a lot of stretch to them and while I did fit into my *normal* jean size, I just felt a tad uncomfortable because they were very fitted. The bell isn't overly large and they are a mid-rise (about the same as the High Heel Flare jeans from J.Crew if you are familiar with them). When I asked about my sizes on the chat feature I was told that the front rise on a 27 is going to be 7.875" and 8.125" on the 28. The back rise is 13.5" on the 27 and 13.75" on the 28. So it looks like you gain about .25 inch as the sizes go up. The silhouette reminds me of the J.Brand Lexington but the denim on the rocker seems thinner to me.
ReplyDeleteRight now all denim on Madewell.com ships for free and you can return for free, so if it's possible for you to order 2 different sizes to see which fits best, then that might be a good option.
Also, for the gaping at the waist of jeans and pants, you should try the Instant Button. I also have an athletic build and the same problem with jeans that you do, but have been using the Instant Button since last August and now won't be without them. They work really well. :)

Like others I recommend the Wideleggers. Very soft, comfy, and flattering.
Since many of us don't have a Madewell B&M near us, this isn't a bad promotion. Wish they'd done free return ship too! If it's your first experience with a store and you have no idea about quality or sizing, it gives you pause. I ended up ordering nothing for that very reason.

ReplyDeleteI bought the high riser skinny jeans in chasm wash last week (20% denim event) and LOVE them. Nice fit, 2% lycra so comfy & no waist gap. Haven't worn them long enough to know if they stretch or bag, but they didn't after 2 hrs' wear. Sizing is same as JCrew's high rise skinny cargo; though IMO JCrew's version is not as flattering (wider in the thighs) as Madewell's.
