A big "thanks!" to tiffany rose, who shared the following exciting news: it appears that J.Crew has joined Polyvore as a member! Polyvore is a great place to create outfits, as well as inventory one's closet. To view the site, click here. (I should add, that I am not 100% sure if it is J.Crew or a fan of J.Crew behind the site. But there are so many product images with multiple views, that it makes me think it is J.Crew.)
Right now, it appears to be a work-in-progress (as features are still being added). Some headings offered include: Sets, Items, Collections, Templates, Advice, Likes, Contacts, Groups, From My Contacts, and Contest Wins. (Although, most of the headings do not have anything in them yet.)
If it really is J.Crew, than I am thrilled they are taking the steps to officially join Polyvore. (As a side note, some personal shoppers at J.Crew have already been using Polyvore to share styling tips and outfits with their customers.)
Of course, JCAs are no strangers to Polyvore (refer to the 2008 post "Creating J.Crew Outfits with Polyvore!"). For fashion inspiration, there is the amazing Polyvore *JCA Group*. (That Polyvore group is a such an incredible source when it comes to styling J.Crew pieces.)
What are your thoughts about J.Crew joining Polyvore? :)
My biggest issue with using polyvore is that it's difficult to find pictures of past season items. And, since I don't buy everything new every season, my wardrobe is predominently past season items...
ReplyDeleteSo do we know for sure it is J.Crew? It should be since they have over 300+ items saved in only seven days of membership. Looks like they're catching up w/other retailers by starting a blog and joining Polyvore.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if enough requests are made they'll upload images from past seasons.
About time, they're a couple years late. Meanwhile, a lot of us JCAs have already saved images of "the good stuff" from seasons past.
ReplyDeleteI'm only interested if jcrew us having design contests and giving away gift cards (like other retailers have been doing for a couple years).
I would love it if it really is J. Crew. It would be VERY nice to be able to grab items quickly and easily from past seasons...right now I have to google image search and item and cross fingers that it is somewhere out there...on a blog, on someone's random musings, etc. Then I can polyvore "clip" the item to my items. It is sort of a pain. If I can't find it, I have to physically take a photo and upload it to my blog, and clip it from there.
ReplyDeleteThat said, something makes me think this isn't J. Crew, just a big fan because polyvore would no doubt find a place for J. Crew to get into the action a bit more easily than us regular users (right now "J. Crew" has a user account that is exactly like mine except there are no sets, just items saved).
Also, last spring I started clipping crewcuts items for a fashion class I was teaching to kids, and I easily clipped over 400 items, all in one day. :)
I wish polyvore had a feature that would allow a user to browse another user's items by tags. Clicking on an item's tag just dumps you into what everyone on polyvore has uploaded.
ReplyDeleteI just went through about 30 pages from one of my accounts (I have two) and found tons of "older" jcrew items (toulouse cardigan, cherry blossom dress, martine heels, gayle pumps jeweled sunburst flats, jet beaded cashmere sweater, taffeta rugby skirt, winona blouse, fontaine dress, etc. etc.), but I don't know how to direct people to those things without pasting every single link.

ReplyDeleteGood move, if it is indeed JC.
ReplyDeleteWhat did we do before Polyvore, I wonder? :)
I 'think' it is them. I pulled up some items I saved first but the way it was originally named has been edited. I (try to) use the same item naming convention, ie. Item name-J.crew (color).
ReplyDeleteAlso, Madewell really needs to get on board w/Polyvore. Their items get so much usage, esp. from what appears to be younger Polyvore users.
Dina: kudos to you!! I just know when I sit down & clip, it's def. less than say 30 items & it takes me an hour. :P
Interesting! I'm not sure what this will really mean, but I'm interested to see. :)
ReplyDeleteIRL: LOL. I was getting paid to teach the class, so I had an incentive to get my butt in gear and clip as many items as possible.
ReplyDeleteNow I can't really use polyvore because they changed the lower user age limit to 13. Since all the kids in my classes are younger than that, I only give them a look see at what I create, and can't let them use it themselves. Sigh. (I understand, though...)
Tastymoog: I wish I could search my own items by color. That would make my life super-easy! The hunting and pecking is numbing. I LOVE your idea. Polyvore, are you hearing us???
How do you see the items J Crew has clipped?
ReplyDeleteHollylovescrew: The J.Crew items are right here.
ReplyDeleteThis is great - maybe it will save me a bit of searching and polivore clipping.
ReplyDeleteOT, but there was a big sale update this morning. When I was online, there were 30 handbags! Good pop-backs too - like all three Rhapsody's... oooh, I coveted.
I agree if would be nice to have J Crew clip the older classic items. There are pics of older J Crew items on kaboodle so maybe J Crew will get on board...we can only hope! : )
ReplyDeleteWelcome to 2011 J.Crew!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty new to polyvore and find it hard and time consuming to find older items as well. If JCrew could archive older items it would be great.
ReplyDeleteNow if only JCrew would spend some resources to update their website it would be great news!
I bet you anything this means they're going to launch a Polyvore contest in the next 3 weeks. :)
ReplyDeleteCall me crazy, but I couldn't resist clicking through to snap up any items I needed for my collection. As of just now there were 321 pages of stuff, 25 items per page. I think that comes out to about 6025 items. Some were newly saved by the j crew PV and some were ones we have saved over the years. If this is an individual, it is someone crazier and more obsessed than I am, in a good way of course :)
ReplyDeleteI just browsed through their items, and they've done what I use to do (and still do by default) and that's to clip the model shot. When I am putting together a set, I really prefer the clips of the products without the models. Oh well, JC will learn, I'm sure.
