Preface: A big "thanks!" to Ibi who suggested weekly 'Looking to LOVE' and 'Looking to VENT' posts where we could all "deposit" our best & worst current experiences. I think it is a brilliant idea and will try it out for a few weeks. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)
This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.
If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.
subbing!

ReplyDeleteI wish J Crew could get the colors in their website pictures to look like the actual colors in the garments. I bought the Saturday sweater in the yellowish color (looks pale yellow online) and it is a bright greenish yellow color that I would call Citron. NOT what I was expecting. I would say half the returns I do of online merchandise are due to the actual garments not being the color I thought they would be.
ReplyDeleteHi kitsmommy - good to know about the Saturday sweater. I liked that light yellow but it sounds like the No.2 pencil skirt color. I've noticed this a lot with the striped pieces as well, where the stripes look white on the site but IRL are a muslin color.
ReplyDeleteAlso on the subject of the website, it is so annoying to search for an item and have only the full-price colors come up(eg, siren dress). You have to go to the sale section and dig through the listings to even see any colors on sale - for the same item.
ReplyDeleteAnd a get a WISHLIST feature, for heaven's sake.
I wish JCrew would let you use at least two offer codes. It can be very frustrating.
ReplyDeleteWell it was bound to happen I suppose. I've received my first defective item :( I'd been stalking for a rustic barn merino dore cardi on popback and when one was available, I ordered it right away. It came with a hole in the sweater on the buttonhole placket side!! Its definitely noticeable when I wear it but it's not huge. I really really wanted this cardi and am wondering if I can get one of JC's tailors to fix it for me, if it is fixable at all. The hole is only through the first layer of the merino (theres two layers on the placket). What do you guys think? Worth fixing or just return?
ReplyDeleteAnd does anyone know if JC has an elf who fixes defective handbag hardware?
ReplyDeleteFirst item in the wrong color... bikini bottom in a strange green and not in laguna blue.
ReplyDeleteSent wrong size shoes. Again. Yes I reordered and can return these but I didn't want to. Why don't they have someone that checks the orders before they ship them?
ReplyDeletekitsmommy even the catalog is not always accurate on the colors. The Orchid Blue Oxford Scout chinos are not the beautiful pale blue in the catalog, they are Kapow blue. Pretty, but I would have worn the blue color shown in the catalog a ton.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right on the Oxford chinos. I was expecting powder blue, and kept trying to convince myself it was close enough, but ultimately sent them back.
ReplyDeleteI've also had to return items due to difference in colors. Especially with leather goods (bags, shoes) the colors appear to be darker than pictured since maybe they are taken with flash?
ReplyDeleteMy vent is the price discrepancies of B&M and online. I get that other retailers do this to some degree and B&M has to move merchandise, but when we're talking differences in over $30 or more just seems ridiculous and makes me not want to order at all. Along with final sale, it is good for my wallet I guess.
jcrewphd,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the crazy pricing discrepancies betweeen online and stores at JCrew.
Now, Talbots plays the up and down pricing on sale items like JCrew and other stores HOWEVER I am so happy that their online pricing matches the stores regardless. That is one thing I enjoy very much when I shop there and adds the fun element back into shopping:)
My gripe of the day: the website isn't working at the moment. I'm trying to order some sale stuff for my husband and the men's stuff always sells out so fast...wish it would work!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, Talbots adjusts their prices because of promos. It looks random because they don't mention the additional 25% off sale promo or whatever it is on each page, but that's what's going on. It's been discussed on the FB fan page. In-store prices match online and that is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI agree about colors on the website. The No2. pencil is citron in-person to me, too.
Can anyone comment on the actual color of the Oxford Scout Chinos in the mauve morning color? I was planning to order those, but now am concerned that the color will be way off if the orchid blue color was so off. Ugh. . .
ReplyDeletekitsmommy, that's a total pet peeve of mine. I think the worst ever for color mismatch is the Khloe cami in blush stone or whatever that color was. It looks like a golden ivory on the web site, dark peach in person!
ReplyDeleteJackie, I have done alterations and mending for many years. I also knit. I find it extremely difficult to do a seamless mending of a knit garment. Not saying it can't be done, but it takes a highly skilled person to do it right if the hole is any larger than, say, the tip of a pencil.
Thanks for your input, Tamara! I ended up just returning it. I kept wondering what would happen if I had their tailor fix it and I wasn't pleased with the result. Highly doubt they would have let me return it after that!
ReplyDeleteCCS - I didn't see the oxford scout chinos when I was in store, but I saw the cotton bell skirt in the same color. I thought the online picture was a pretty good representation of the actual color. It may be *slightly* darker IRL, but overall, pretty much how it looked on the site. I would guess they're a similar fabric as the skirt is a chino weight fabric. HTH! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks ajr! Good to know that the color is close to the website! Thanks again!
