"Thanks!" to many of you, including Fabulous Florida Mommy, Desert Flower, & Ketan, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).
There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated. Although the J.Crew Collection (click here) appears to be the same from the last update.
The latest March catalog (click here to view) is now available to view. The Men's only catalog is available too.
It is so nice to see so many light & fresh colors sprinkled throughout each page of the catalog. Spring is just around the corner! :)
As for the new arrivals ...
What I Love. My top pick, hands down, is the Tulip Ruffle Cami (Item 38803; $79.50). Such an amazingly sweet top, especially in the Dragonfly Blue shade.
Seriously? What is up with the Ikat Gathered Vest (Item 38530; $198.00)? J.Crew calls it stunning, and I agree. But for all the wrong reasons it is stunning. This is not what comes to mind when I think of J.Crew.
Skirts. Okay, we get it J.Crew, you like your skirts on the shorter side. (Click here to shop their new arrivals in skirts online). But some of us can't wear 16" skirts. Now I appreciate your pencil skirts are on the longer side, but how about bringing back some Belle skirts in longer lengths too?
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)
coffee! computer! click! perooooooose!
ReplyDeleteI like couple of items, but I am not wowed. Some of these clothes are too boyish/military like. I am tired of the buckles on the shoes. Give me a nice shoe that I can wear with a pretty skirt or dress. I might get sundrenched sweatshirt in abstract blue http://www.jcrew.com/womens_feature/NewArrivals/jcrewweekend/PRDOVR~37252/37252.jsp
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by the mixed-stitch cardigan, the indigo peacoat, the Dorrie skirt in modern red (but 19.5" may be a little short for me), the red Mac (but $950!) and the Tribune dress (but the big zipper! Ack!). I think they've lost their minds with the shoes. And I usually don't have opinion one way or another about the models, but the new one is really so skeletal that I couldn't focus on the clothes.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually more interested in hearing what all the JCA's have to say than I am in the clothes, as usual. :)
Omg Omg! I am in love with the new denim shortalls! Soo cute.
ReplyDeleteLooooove the lady lace popover - but $198? Esscuse me? Sale watch.
ReplyDeleteI also love the 'mini' versions of some of the necklaces, especially the pearl supernova. Want.
Loooove the sawyer hobo - such cute colours!! I'd be torn between the pink and the green.
I'm vexed that the only knee-length spring jacket options are the Mackintoshes, at close to $10000. Booooo-urns. Oh and a lot of the cute dresses are just too short to be real options - that's disappointing.
^LOL, meant to say the Macs are close to $1000.
ReplyDeleteJust want to hear what the JCAs think...hoping to get a chance to browse the catalog a little later.
ReplyDeletesilverlining, love your new pic :)
I think there are a lot of cute things this time around. I'm interested in the Sailor-stripe boy shirt, Lace-over tank, Stripe Schoolboy Blazer, Katie Eyelet cami, Liberty Bouquet shirtdress, Dorrie Skirt, Bahia Hobo, and a couple swimsuits in the new prints, as well.
ReplyDelete^Oh, and poo that there was no sale update this morning.
ReplyDeleteOk. I'm done.
I don't see the eyelet pencil skirt. Hrmm.
ReplyDeleteI do see a lace pencil skirt but it only goes up to size 12. I guess since it's part of the J.Crew Collection that means size 14s need not apply to wear these chi-chi clothes.
Hi jacquelyn - you have to search it by number (14865).
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new update. But that is probably because I am obsessed with anything in a liberty print. Also dying for some chambray pants and the outlet ones fit very oddly so excited to try on the Belmarin chambray pants. And yes to the Dorrie - just looks like a casual skirt with a little more length. Easy breezy for summer. On a side note, tried on the factory sylvie skirt and loved it. Not as full as some other skirts in that style.
ReplyDeleteum, whats up with that denim one piece jumpsuit....is that inmate chic?
ReplyDeleteThanks silver_lining!
ReplyDeleteI have tried many of the new arrivals yesterday. I didn't buy anything but loved the boathouse shirtdress, the Delaney shift dress and also the Rialta tweed jacket (the same tweed also comes in a pencil skirt but it has an exposed zip in the back that many JCAs won't like). They also had a cute eyelet blazer (white or ash grey) that I am surprised not to see online. I will try to post pics later.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't going to buy the Dorrie skirt anyway because of the big pockets which remind me of something a 5 year old would have on their clothing. That decision was confirmed when I saw it was 19" long. For pete's sake, J. Crew! Enough with the minis already! The chambray mini is 16" long and the model has it so low on her hips she's risking a wardrobe malfunction if she moves.
ReplyDeleteI looked through all of it and I either already have something similar, or I sold something similar on the exchange and definitely don't need to rebuy! Something new, please. Preferably in a length that covers my undies.
Avert your eyes, Desert Flower - the fringe loop mini (37721) is 13.5" long! I have a feeling that will be alongside the tinsel mini (which is still available in all sizes) in FS.
ReplyDeleteThanks, silver_lining! I was wondering about the Eyelet pencil skirt as well...sneaky j.crew! :)
ReplyDeleteI like:
ReplyDeletefor up top
radiette cami may be my choice for dose of pink
spangled stripe sweater in black linen
for the bottom
Schooner short in spring red
Slim knit pant... must try the colours
canteen pant in copper dust
wool Portia pants are nice but $$$ for me...
for extra bits
I really love the braided leather belt with studs
The production Dorrie skirt looks shorter than the one in the catalog. So there goes the one item I actually wanted.
ReplyDeleteWhy are the Liberty shirts so expensive? The clover print from last spring seems downright cheap by comparison.
Pass on this rollout.
I did order a second suckered gingham shirt yesterday as well as another superfine cotton skirt. I have both from last year and really wore them to death.
I thought that the new catalog said something like "Hemlines are coming down, and we couldn't be happier"? It doesn't count if you have one slightly longer mini (Dorrie) and a bunch of lengths a teen couldn't even wear to school.
ReplyDeleteWow, lots of new factory stuff that wasn't there yesterday, including that amazing Blakely zebra-print dress (also in black and paris pink) ... and they're on promo, which means the extra 30% comes off too ... loading up the cart as we speak, arrgghh...
ReplyDeletei'm loving the sun-drenched sweatshirt and the dorrie skirt. now if spring can come early...
ReplyDeleteThe online art director is featured on the handbag splash page. I could make a joke about the book she has there but I'll just leave it implied. :P
ReplyDeleteMy wish list is fairly short.
ReplyDeleteRoulette Clutch - this looks like an amazing bag but I'm not crazy about either color option. Will probably try the sandalwood.
Sirah Dress - Looks like a comfortable dress that will travel well.
Gingham Scout Chino - I am getting these on my next order. So fun!
Forever Cotton Cardigan - loving the vivid purple color.
Eyelet Pencil Skirt - thanks for the tip on this one silver_lining!
Annick-stripe String Bikini - adorable.
Gingham Mini - looks pretty short and I'm not sure about the elastic waistband since that style doesn't usually flatter me but it is too cute.
No problem, ladies! That eyelet pencil is one of my favorites - I have the shadow and never got the ivory, and last year's version was too short so I passed on it. I'll definitely be getting the ivory this year. The lace makes me think of paper reinforcements. :)
ReplyDeleteSale section just updated. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso love!
ReplyDeleteSafari tunic
Spannaus purse
and the driving scarf print in a coverup!
The linen/cooton v-neck is very sharp, nice looking textured knit. But what colour? Navy or the rich brown. I want to say navy, but is that too predictable and common? Hmmmm .... tough decisions.
ReplyDeleteEma, the lace blazer is there: Beaumont blazer $298.00 item 37032
ReplyDeleteThere was a cheaper one in stores - I think it was $148, and it was cotton eyelet instead of lace.
ReplyDeletexoxo - Good call on the book! That's priceless.
silver_lining, did you take your usual pencil skirt size in the eyelet skirt?
ReplyDeleteTIA
Alexis, your comment about the Ikat vest made me laugh out loud! That may be the ugliest piece of clothing I've ever seen offered by J Crew. (My apologies to anyone who likes it.) And it's $198!! I think we should bet on the price and arrival time when it hits the final sale section. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Sevigne shoe doesn't look as slutty as I originally thought, especially in the sandalwood color.
I have the same complaint about the skirts. Lots of the top designers are showing longer skirts, and they would fit so well with J Crew's overall look, so why they aren't offering them is a mystery to me. They'd make a killing, I think.
xoxo, I did take my usual pencil skirt size and it was fine. There's no stretch in it but I'd say that the cotton in it has a little 'give' so sizing up isn't necessary. HTH!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only person who thought the Dorrie skirt looked shorter on the site than it does in the catalog. Bummer.
ReplyDeleteLots of pretty things, but everything seems crazy-expensive.
Does anyone know what shirt is shown with the eyelt pencil skirt? It's a cami and it looks adorable.
ReplyDeleteThis model was so freakishly skinny it distracted me from the clothes (not that what she's wearing is that great, but still):
ReplyDeletehttp://www.jcrew.com/womens_feature/NewArrivals/sweaters/PRDOVR~39449/39449.jsp
I like the Cotton voile tucked mini, though it may be too short. I agree with the others that the pencil skirts are nice and all, but it would be nice to have a summery skirt in a slightly longer length. Those minis are really short, and I'm only 5'2"!
And I know that this is not a new arrival, but has anyone seen or tried on the Christabelle buckle mini? It intrigues me.
xoxo & silver, I'm surprised not to find the Financial Times in all of the JC staffers' bags. It's pink. Oops, I mean faded rosy taupe. Or salmon wiggle. No, that's a vintage recipe for the emergency shelf of the fifties housewife. It will appear in an upcoming feature on JC lunch orders… 2 leaves of frondy greens embracing adorable squares of beet, salmon and carrot inspired the tiny triangles of our jaunty bikini top…
ReplyDeletecomments on new arrivals may follow coffee. Or not.
oops, url didn't go through.
ReplyDeleteToo thin, kinda drugged looking model here:
http://www.jcrew.com/womens_feature/NewArrivals
/shirts/PRDOVR~39303/39303.jsp
I am old enough to remember the fresh-faced, naturally rosy-cheeked models of yore, who actually had expressions on their faces . . .
oh, and the Sirah Dress is pretty great, I think.
The new Liberty shirts are cotton and silk, were the prior ones 100% cotton? I think the cotton/silk Liberty print fabric is about $50/yd here in the US. It's definitely a premium cotton blend.
ReplyDeleteLove the Lace Popover and the Merino Stripe Confetti dress! The crochet window pane looking stuff looks atrocious to me. It's not the least bit flattering on the model. I can't believe it would look good on any real person. And the prices seem very high to me! Also, really like the new Cafe Capris, but will definitely wait for those to go on sale.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Hannah, that model looks like an addict! I'm not a skinny basher, I think most of the skinny J Crew models look fine, but that one doesn't. She looks a little better wearing the Cotton Stud Cardigan.
ReplyDeleteI recognize one model from Banana Republic.
There are a few tanks and skirts (I'm only 5'1" so the length is not much of an issue for me haha) that I like and would totally buy on sale, but I don't see anything that I have to have right this second.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the models this time out look too thin. The only things that really stand out to me in a good way are too expensive. The Lady Lace Popover - $198 is just too much, The Lace Allover tank at $52-for a tank-even with a promo is high. But what really kills me is the beautiful red Mac coat for $950. I'm glad I found a few Spring pieces elsewhere-with the micro minis and short shorts, there is really nothing for me at J Crew this time around.
ReplyDeletejacquelyn, that's the silk flower tank from 2009. It's an old pic of the skirt - which might be why it's not coming up unless you search by number.
ReplyDeleteWFF, I look forward to your comments as always!
silver_lining to the rescue again...thanks! Now I can stop obsessing over the shirt.
ReplyDeleteThe sequin stripe tee seems to have disappeared. Had it in my shopping bag yesterday and of course the shopping bag was cleared when the new arrivals were posted. Any tips on how to find it? I browsed the catalog, the tee won't show up. Typed in the item number under search, nothing. So very strange. Guess I really don't need it anyway but there was full stock available yesterday!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot that I'm liking, but I definitely have to wait for a markdown or promo, with wedding bills left and right!
ReplyDeleteKatie eyelet cami
Liberty springlily perfect shirt
Lace-over tank
Lady lace popover
Beaumont blazer (although the description says it's fully lined, in the photo you can see the tee shirt underneath, so I'm not so sure.... looks pretty thin to me for the price. Need to see this in person)
Liberty bouquet shirtdress
Selia eyelet dress
Cypress dress
Cotton Blakely dress
Oleander lace shift dress
Heirloom lace pencil skirt
Mulberry leaf earrings
Calais silk tunic
My favorite thing is the "9 women" for the "picks" I have been hoping (and writing to JC) for this for so long. So nice to see a mix of ages, sizes, styles--refreshing!
ReplyDeleteI actually think the ikat vest looks interesting. I love ikat, especially in the indigo tones but worried about the gathering. I was interested in that light-weight quilted vest over the holidays and that gathering around the neck wrecked it for me.
I am loving some of the new collection, but it seems like the prices have become so inflated. I am sure some pieces will be in FS within 2-3 weeks.
ReplyDeleteI tried several items yesterday and bought the slim boy jeans. The denim is good, no thin stretchy creepiness and feel like beach jeans. I will get more pairs but I'm between sizes. I decided to get the waist taken in on the 29s but may still get a single pair of 28s for my better days ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe side zip sweater is cute and the neck line doesn't show bra straps oh happy day. The challenge is the side zippers are cold to the skin. I'm allergic to metal too so I might need a tee under if I get it.
The sun drenched sweatshirt is a really nice knit, sort of fluffy. It's longer which is not always good on me but not bad. I did not see white in the store. I liked the or age but as a pale blonde, I would need a tan to pull it off. The blue works though!
I also got the Deveaux sandals on the 20% promo in aged driftwood. Gorgeous and fit tts.
I wish they would do the 20% promo in store starting today. Are you listening J Crew? And include the guys this time, that was so wrong last weekend.
Like the followings:
ReplyDeleteIndigo Blazer cardigan
Roulette clutch
Cashmere Isabel sweatshirt
particularly curious how the "high-gloss ombré patent" clutch looks like IRL
One day I will click on the new JC arrivals and it WON"T be the same old uber thin tees, baggy sweatshirts, and bottom exposing skirts all in washed out colors. I look forward to that day...
ReplyDeleteGem twin that reminds me of an old JC catalog photo where they took the same girl and put all the different chino styles on her so you could see the differences in the fit. I thought that was helpful too.
ReplyDeleteand btw, when I case see nipples and shoulder blades through the sweaters, they're too thin
ReplyDeleteI'm really impressed and excited by this rollout actually!
ReplyDeletei totally splurged and bought the dorrie skirt in dragonfly blue and the delany eyelet dress in alabaster. i just couldn't help myself. i would have gotten the liberty print button down shirts, but then i saw the price tag of $148 and nearly died. i'll keep an eye on them for sale though.

ReplyDeleteI just laugh out loud at this (Milano gladiator heels in Liberty floral, item 36140)
ReplyDeleteCome on JC designers, who needs a lot of strapes in Liberty print?
Hi ladies!
ReplyDeleteThis is sort of OT, but I wanted to ask you all about this - I got an email from my local store saying they were doing a special rewards card event this Saturday with the new arrivals. The thing is, they didn't specify what was so special about it - ie whether they were going to offer some sort of discount or what. Anyone else get this email? Or been to a rewards event? I suppose I could just call them and ask, but I pretty much always go to you guys first! :) Thanks! (I can forward the email to Alexis if that helps at all...)
I only bought the Eyelet pencil skirt in shadow since I've wanted one for years and it always seems to sell out before I can get it. As far as I know, it rarely hits sale.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first spring rollout that I find interesting. Like many others I also like the Indigo Pea Jacket and the Dorrie Skirt.
ReplyDeleteNot a new arrival, but I really like the Lem Lem scarfs too. Such pretty colors. One of them is in Marie Claire this month. They are pricey ($99 and up) though.
No worry about the skinny models. J Crew can afford to buy them a couple of donuts. Maybe by selling that $100000 mackintosh.
Here's another reason why J Crew should offer longer skirts (in addition to some customers wanting them and longer skirts being back in style) ... longer skirts can almost always be shortened, but shortened skirts can rarely be lengthened (I have done it).
ReplyDeleteSome below-the-knee a-lines would be so cute done up in the usual J Crew fabrics and colors. So cute, Marc Jacobs-y.
I just want to mention that the gingham skirt is akready on sale in stores for $39.99 (I tried it yesterday and thought it was lovely but I feel too old to wear it.
ReplyDeleteI posted fitting room pics of some jackets (including the elusive eyelet blazer that sells for $148) and tops (skirts and dresses will follow tomierow).
I love the Liberty perfect shirts... Still have mine from 5-6 years ago, think it was the first one they did, in a dark blue/white floral pattern. Previous ones were all 100% cotton, so as an above comment stated, the cotton/silk blend is probably why it's jumped up $30. (I remember the previous shirts being around $118 at FP.) Iffy on the shirtdress-- will have to see how "above the knee" it is.
ReplyDeleteHowever, seriously questioning the springlily cardigan (looks like a bad 80s vest) and the Milano gladiator heels in Liberty floral (whhhhhhhy?)
I saw new arrivals in store on both Tuesday and this morning, and posted some pics and notes this morning on my blog. Here's what I liked best:
ReplyDeleteDelaney Eyelet Dress -- Loved, took home the alabaster. It's shorter though, fyi.
Striped Mandarin Tee -- Didn't catch my eye at all, but PS had me try it, and it's so adorable on. Took home.
Tulip Ruffle Cami -- Alexis, it's really lovely. I wanted to take home the dragonfly blue, but decided to hope for a sale price on it.
Cotton pencil skirt -- They had it in Dahlia, and I loved it, but am going with Citron for now.
Eyelet blazer and chambray schoolboy were both very cute!
The Dorrie wasn't in store. The lace/tulle Collection cami didn't pass the F21 test IMO. Minis were too mini.
Not brand new, but I also took home the Maritime dress and retro shell in pink -- love!
Lots of very new items in the sale section.
Oops, forgot to mention that in store there was a pencil skirt in the Rialta tweed - pretty!
ReplyDeleteEma,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pictures of the new items on your blog. Like many others have mentioned the price on the Liberty shirts is crazy expensive. Glad to know the one you tried on was a bit sheer and needed a camisole. I think for the price I personally would perfer a heavier cotton shirt.
As for the new arrivals, lots of pretty things. Best roll out in a long time!
The only thing I tried to buy out of the entire roll-out was the chambray shirtdress - that would make a perfect swim-cover-up - but the color they're showing it in isn't the color that's for sale. Booooo. Otherwise some of the liberty print ballet flats were cute, but not cute enough to make me buy before they go on sale. Some of you know me because I've been doing a huge closet purge this week of past-season J. Crew items, and I have to say, going through all my past season stuff has made me realize how much J. Crew has changed in the last 5 years. back in 2004, everything was structured, and had cute prints. Now, no structure, everything is sack-like, washed out, worn in, and blah. What happened to the pretty? I used to think I'd never meet a sequin I didn't love, but even I am sequinned out. No mas. It seems like Talbots (I can't believe I'm typing that) and Kate Spade are striving to fill the void of cuteness that J. Crew's style shift has created. I want to look put together and pretty when I get dressed. I want to wear cute shoes that make me smile. Sure, sometimes I like to wear boyfriend jeans and a cami, but I can safely say I already own enough ruffled tanks and that I don't need to buy a single thing from this roll out. And that is a bad sign for J. Crew.
ReplyDeleteVent almost over:
Seriouly, I could not agree more with everyone who has said the skirts are too short. no more 16" long bell skirts.
And finally, where are the awesome signature prints? The paisley, the san remo, the katie, the vintage violet, the starfish? Those were the best!!
vent over.
I haven't checked out the new arrivals online but I guess there are mixed feelings. I'm looking forward to actually visiting a B&M maybe next week to see them IRL.
ReplyDeleteI also like to hear different takes from other JCAs.
i'm loving the:
ReplyDeletefinespun slash v-neck tee
linen henley tank
slim knit pant
and the glass mini-drop earrings :]
http://www.theyoungcurator.com/
Genny, your comment made me think that the current J Crew style is "deconstructed-pretty". :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't really checked out the new arrivals, but the Final Sale sure was hoppin' this morning! I managed to snag a pair of 27 S bootcut corduroy pants in golden wood for $19.99! It's so hard to find pants in short sizes on sale, let alone in a color you want!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I forgot about the promo code! Is there a way I could contact customer service and have them apply the discount?
Elaine, good call on the Factory items! I bought the Blakely dress in the paris pink .. I've been looking for a cute pink dress like that!! Great find at a great price!
ReplyDeleteAlso with the extra 30% off, I got the Chambray School Boy Blazer, a tank, and skirt to wear as a swim cover-up.
I like a few of the regular priced items, but I just feel like a lot of the items are overpriced. The Liberty shirts are great, but for $148?? Also, the radiette cami is so pretty, but for $88 . . seems steep. Guess I'll wait for some of the new arrivals to go on sale too.
I'm glad to see color creeping back into J.Crew but there wasn't an abundance of items I liked. But that could change once I try a few things on in person. I also wish J.Crew would stop making so many mini-skirts since they aren't work appropriate.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the beautiful emerald paisley print we saw in the spring look book oh-so-long ago? I was hoping to see some items (other than the romper) in that print...maybe it'll be in a late spring/early summer rollout?
ReplyDeleteshopalot: Items seem to disappear every time the site updates. One of the swimsuits I need to exchange is also gone today, but was there yesterday with plenty in my size. I'm going to check with my PS when she gets in tomorrow to see if it shows up in her system, but odds are it won't. From past experience I would say that it will more than likely be several more days before the missing items make their way back from where ever they are hiding.
ReplyDeleteI am loving LOVING the fabrics on the Gallerista Party Dress and the Ikat Deric Dress. Wish I could track them down in, oh, I don't know, cool slacks or capris for summer, or pencil skirts longer than a bathing suit.
ReplyDeleteI had asked my PS for measurements on the Dorrie skirt last weekend so that I could place a pre-order for it. I just looked back over the chart she emailed me, and it looks as if the 19" length is on the size 0, but each size up gains 1/4 inch, so the 2 is 19 1/4, the 4 is 19 1/2, etc. It also shows that the skirt in the photo was 20 inches instead of the 19 being sold now.
ReplyDeleteThanks, FFM. Kind of felt like I was imagining that tee! I have heard about items disappearing but it's never happened to me with an item I want to purchase. It's so silly - do they want to move this merchandise or not? I'm sure it will show up again AFTER the 30% off promotion is over. :(
ReplyDeleteOT, but Slate has an article today about the kind of debt being used to finance buyouts of companies like J. Crew and others and what consequences it could have in the future and for the economy on a larger scale. It's an interesting read, even though it's not specifically about J. Crew (mentions it once) and a lot of it went over my head.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.slate.com/id/2286004/
Fabulous Florida Mommy, the disappearing items have happened to me too and it is always when there is a new rollout. Once it was a new arrival blouse that was available in every size except mine, right after release! I've asked my PS to help in the past but she could never find the missing items and they always reappeared a few days later.
ReplyDeleteI guess the web designer was busy reading about html, building a chandelier and getting ready for her handbag feature spot and couldn't be bothered to require testing of the web design. But that's OK because J.Crew thinks it looks "stylish". Honestly, I would be embarassed if I were the web designer, especially if I were the one in that role during the infamous "upgrade" a couple years back.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWow....lots of gorgeous new stuff for men! Now I know why `Crew didn`t want to give us men the 20% discount.
ReplyDeleteToo many to list here but I like the Italian cotton pique Ludlow suit in navy----great for the summer. However, I will pay the extra $$$ for an all-season swagger with the Italian wool pinstripe Ludlow suit.
Pretty colors! J. Crew still does colors better than anyone else. Now, what in the world would my friends/co-workers say if I showed up in sequined shorts?
ReplyDeleteNow that I think of it, I don't think they said that hemlines would go down, rather, jean rises would go up.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking at the Dorrie skirt in the picture of the sailor-stripe boy shirt (39225) and it looks awful short. In addition, if you zoom in on it it doesn't look like the front under the buttons lays flat - it looks the same in the picture of the finespun slash v-neck tee (36184) as well. It's rather disappointing.
For those of you that were interested in the windowpane trench from the lookbook, it's online if you search item (39015).
silver_lining: The new catalog states, (on I think pg. 45), "Skirt alert--hems are coming down a notch, and we couldn't be happier. Our sensation-worthy Dorrie skirt." I remember snickering to myself. Yeah right they couldn't be happier. And the Dorrie skirt is their answer to longer hemlines? Puh-lease.
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks AppGal! I was thinking of the catalog with the high-rise skinny jeans and it said something like, "Hallelujah for high-rise" or something like that. Sometimes the catalogs run together. ;)
ReplyDeletesilver_lining: They do run together! All the descriptions sound the same. I couldn't forget this one though...it was too funny to me!
ReplyDeleteFabulous Florida Mommy, what a farce! They can't even get the CSRs the information they need to help customers. The J.Crew website is really poor from the user end and I don't even want to think about interfaces to inventory, shipping, etc.
ReplyDeleteSome time ago I purchased an item at the end of season (not final) sale. It is an item they regularly carry during that season. It was backordered for months, which was fine since I didn't need it right away. Several months go by and I get the cancellation email, no surprise. I go to the website and the item is back in stock - at full price! CS was kind enough to give me the sale price and could not understand why the backorder would be cancelled on the same day it arrived back in stock. It was probably just a glitch but from the customer end it looks like a ploy to charge full price.
The time the new arrival blouse was available in every size but mine, CS assured me that it had already completely sold out in my size. I used the inventory trick and there was tons of stock in all other sizes so I found it hard to believe. I asked my PS to do a Find It and send me the blouse. Of course they had no trouble finding it in my size in a B&M. By the time it was delivered my size was magically back in stock on the website and eventually the blouse made it to super sale. I was tainted though and ended up returning the original blouse from the Find It search and did not rebuy it, even on sale. :(
I think they hide things to drive up demand.
ReplyDeleteBut really, at this point, out of sight, out of mind.
I only like the things that are reminiscent of yesteryears.
xoxo: The cancellation on a waitlisted non-final sale item just happened to me a couple weeks ago. I checked the site and it was back in stock in all sizes at full-price, final sale, and still waitlisted. I also had a new order placed and the sale price honored, but had I not thought to check the site I would have never known it was an error on their part.
ReplyDeleteFabulouse Florida Mommy, I guess it is "lesson learned" to always check the website if a backordered sale item is cancelled. Must be a "feature" of their stylish website. LOL
ReplyDeleteVisited my B&M today and saw the new rollout -- the only two things that I needed (okay, wanted) at full price are the Liberty vintage floral mini (37276) and the rialta tweed pencil skirt (not online yet, but the jacket in the same fabric is...) which is a lovely, lovely, wisteria-ish color. Both TTS, I sized up in the floral mini b/c I like to wear a little lower... Also love the cotton bell skirt (36116, and on sale for just under $35 online with 30% off promotion!) in all three colors -- this skirt is long enough that I did not size up to wear lower.
ReplyDeleteCould someone please tell me how to do the inventory trick? Or email me? ajswirsky AT sbcglobal DOT net. I promise to delete immediately. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know when they update the Factory Online? Looking for a restock in a item I'm eying. TIA
ReplyDeleteApparently skinny arms are not accidental, they are a design feature. See item 40511:
ReplyDeleteAn update to our popular Alexi sweater, now with striking new proportions: a looser body, skinnier arms and drop shoulders (it all adds up to the ultimate in slouchy chic), finished with real shell buttons and grosgrain trim at the shoulders.
I just had to comment on the Tulip Ruffle Cami, which I got on the 20% promo. It arrived today and I think you need to size down one. I'm 36C and an 8, my usual size, was too big. Some extra room under the arms. I'm going to try a 6 next b/c it is SO CUTE. The straps do come in just a bit, making it hard to wear a regular bra...I'll have to figure that out.

ReplyDeleteI love the Maritime dress and bought it a few days ago, super soft! I also adore the Deveaux sandals in toffee. FFM, I also liked the sailor striped boy shirt. This is a great shirt to wear with jeans and a wide leather belt or with a skirt as styled. I also love the sun-drenched sweatshirt in "abstract blue". I am loving just about anything in blue so the March catalog and new arrivals really struck a chord with me - so pretty! I am loving anything from a pale, robin-egg blue to bright cobalt.
ReplyDeleteI was pretty happy overall with the March catalog. It was nice to see J. Crew return to a little more classically appealing range of clothing. This is as excited as I have been in awhile, so I will leave it at that. Very Spring-like!
My favorite item is still the lady lace popover, but not at that price. I'm not sure I'd even pay 1/2 of what they want. Guess I'll just have to hope that everyone feels like me. :)
ReplyDeleteSo I went to two more B & Ms and have determined that you size down on the slim boy jeans. The 28s were much better. I got the sun drenched sweatshirt in abstract blue and orange and they were selling quickly. I also got the Waverly chinos in a terra-cotta color.
ReplyDeleteI was so tempted by the new navy peacoat but had to remind myself that I keep rebuying the same items. The maxi check boy shirt in blue is very cute, I ordered it on promo so looking forward to it.
I decided against the side zip sweater, the zippers are just too prominent.
The striped jacket is cute but I thought it ran large. Fun day.
Must haves for me:
ReplyDeleteI love the Roulette Clutch...love it. I don't want to get left out of this one, so i may even consider paying full price. Wish it came in one other more neutral color but think the gold color will be great for spring/summer.
Liberty Wildbloom perfect shirt--wish it wasn't so expensive!
Lace over tank
Milano gladiator wedges
Dorrie skirt--love the modern red
Love the new islet paisley suits...that print is TDF...
Diving into the catalog now.
And the eyelet pencil skirt! (now that I can find it...sheesh) Beautiful...must have. There's a chance it could snow here tomorrow (in San Francisco!) and all I can think about is wearing that skirt with sandals...sigh.
ReplyDeleteI just posted pics of skirts and dresses here. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSlightly off topic here ... who are the lucky people who bought the Dotted chiffon Clarissa dress?? I love that dress! All that's left now is size 0. With no big special occasions in the near future I couldn't allow myself to spend $450 on a dress. I can see there's no hope of this thing ever making it to the sale section. ~sigh~ Maybe they'll make a Factory version??
ReplyDelete@tamara: This dress is not sold out in any size, I'm sure. Remember the "Jeweled Jardin Jacket" from last spring? That seemed completely sold out as soon as it showed up on the website; indeed their marketing claimed that only a few pieces were made. But eventually all sizes trickled online. Yesterday I saw it in the Final Sale section, no kidding. I'm sure there are other examples. J Crew play some sort of scarcity game with certain VSHPPs (Very Special and High-Priced Pieces).
ReplyDeleteAs usual, cashmere excites me. I might have to bite a big bullet and spend full-price for a featherweight cardigan. I love the light shale color and the last time they had a shale, it sold quickly.
ReplyDeleteflaminga, thanks very much for your info, I'll watch for the dress then!
ReplyDeleteCan anyone identify the mustard-ish cardigan in the 'new arrivals' photo of the green boardwalk cargo short?
ReplyDeletewellfedfred, wow. Just, wow. I wish they were kidding.
ReplyDeleteLexi, I asked one of the on-line Chat specialists about the sweater and she said it wasn't on-line yet.
ReplyDeleteShe's supposed to e-mail me when she finds out. I'll post the info here when I get it.
It really is a pretty sweater.
Is that Crystal Renn in the swimsuit section of the catalog? Nice of them to feature a model that isn't a toothpick for once!
ReplyDeleteCloset Crisis: Yes, it is! I love Crystal Renn. I love that J.Crew featured her in this catalog. Would love to see her in more, wearing some of the clothing!

ReplyDeleteWhile I've been sad that the men's clothes seem to be on the decline as far as style and edge go, I was very happy to Crystal Renn smack in the middle of the latest Cat. But yeah, put her on more pages. Perhaps even all of them.
