Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the HOLIDAY sale, or to see some new SPRING arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. I drove down to Seattle and went to a Crewlet (the one with the weird smell) and 2 J Crew B&Ms!!

Nothing at the Crewlet caught my eye. They had a lot of stuff on 40% off... I'd be ticked if I ordered off the website.

Nothing really caught my eye at the stores either. I can say that they have an awful lot of Mesh Scarf Necklaces to move! There were tons of those in-store.

I picked up a Mini Crystal Supernova necklace... I like the mix of sparkle and chain mail and it's quite delicate. I also got a t-shirt I don't see online... it has a pocket and metallic trim on the neckline and pocket.

The items I really wanted to see - a couple of metallic sweaters (Gold Rush Cardigan and Oralie Cardigan) were not in the stores.

Tried on the Bevin Blouse (on sale in store but not online which always makes me mad to see) and the Toluca tunic (in white, which was a nice heavy crisp cotton) but didn't like the Bevin all that much; and while I loved the fabric and design of the Toluca, it was too snug around the bottom on me. I've got a real hourglass figure and like so many J Crew tops this one narrows toward the bottom. The Pinstripe Toluca looks weird IMO. The blue part's nice but the trim is this weird mushroomy colour and doesn't go AT ALL with the body.

All in all, as usual when I see the stuff in person its appeal just isn't there. I fall in love with stuff online/in catalogue but when I actually SEE it.... meh.

  2. Yesterday at the Tysons Galleria the SA told me as I entered about the t-shirts promotion referring to the tees on two specific tables (basically vintage tees and favourite tanks) so I'm not sure if other shirts that were cheaper on the site were also promoed or not. No one said anything about belts, bracelets, etc, although I saw a sign near the jewelry so maybe there was more they just didn't tell me about.

I mainly wanted to see the Herringbone Schoolboy Blazer in aged driftwood. The fabric has more of a brushed, soft hand than I expected - I thought it would be flax-y/more fibrous. Not a good or bad thing, just an observation. I took in a 0 and a 2. The 0 fits me perfectly through the shoulders, the arms are pretty skinny so I have to unbutton the sleeves in order to roll them, for sure. The 2 also fit but overall just seemed more rumpled looking on me - maybe it was more shopworn? On both, the right side lapel did not lie properly, as it neared the button it was sticking up and out but hopefully you'd be able to press it into submission. As someone has said somewhere else -- it is itchy in the sleeves. I turned the sleeve inside out and I think I figured out why -- it's not the jacket's fabric itself, but because the lining is some sort of synthetic, where the seam stitches prick through, it's almost like minute microplane graters at every hole! Very unfortunate. If the colour hadn't been on the cooler, greyer side that made me look sallow, I might have considered it for future sale wishlist, to wear over sleeved clothing. The itchiness on me isn't unbearable but still, annoying. Actually if the colour had LIT ME UP I might even think about un-lining it or re-lining it (I can DIY.)

I took in tons of neon pink and neon yellow things, shorts, tank tops, etc. The Stripe Button-back Tee was ok, basically looks like it does in the image on the site, although it looked more flattering when I eyed it from the side/three-quarter view rather than flat and headon (then it was kinda pear shaped with the stripes at hip.) I tried the XXS, so definitely size down.

  3. The Sailor Sweater is really cute on, but I can't pay that price for it. I just don't need it enough, but I can totally imagine someone else wearing it a TON and it being worth it. I got my usual size and it was a bit more fitted than that pic there, but it looked good that way. For the more relaxed look maybe size up? I didn't see the seaweed one there - actually there were only about three of the black one where I picked it up.

Miscellaneous: The retro pink shell surprised me in that it had a tone on tone check-ish weave, made it a tiny bit more interesting than I thought, but I didn't try it on. There was a big-gingham-in-blue elastic waisted mini skirt I tried on, nothing really special but maybe would be a comfy favourite for someone else. There was a canvas tote in at least two colour ways, neutral and maybe navyish that had a vertical silkscreened stripe, possibly leather long straps but then also a shorter clipped on strap made of braided bungee cord in two tones, neon + neutral. Hard to describe, but basically had a tiny Proenza Schouler tribal vibe. I liked it but don't need a new beach bag. Maybe $68 it was?

I ended up buying a Lunette Mini in dark beechwood, which fills a taupe/beige/tan skirt hole in my wardrobe. The shape is 'challenging', as in, sticks out in a very sculptural shape, but I fell in love with it. On me it lies pretty A-line to the hipline, and then has peaks sort of over the front of my thighs. Works with woven tanks and tops tucked in and with a ruffled Muse tank to look like a dress. Now I see the melon colour on the site, I wonder if I missed seeing that in my pick-up-items-to-try-frenzy. The Dulcie mini was calling my name from the new website arrivals because of the print and I now see it's the same shape... that might have to be on the wishlist!

Also got two vintage tees in size M... much prefer them looser. When fitted, the V seems lowish and sort of strangled in to place, if that makes sense, but looser has a nice relaxed vibe. Finally, one marled charcoal Jaspe tee in S for husband - very thick tee, very nice and he loved it. Oh, the V is pretty low though, not quite only-wear-on-a-beach-vacation low but a bit man-revealing. Might get him a crewneck in another colour. (ow my goodness I was about to have a heart attack, the site said $19.99 on the search, but no, not for current colours, full price still.)

  4. I went to one and they had the Bonnie blazer marked down to $99 (still full price on-line) a bunch of the boyfriend pink sequin perfect shirts (semi-sheer, unfortunately) also marked down, they were honoring the 20% tees and knits. I saw the Sailor Sweater and was disappointed in how thin it is. Also, that orange pencil skirt is marked down to $98 on-line, but full-price in stores.

  5. I went and tried on a handful of various striped tops... the Stripe Button Back Tee is cute and all, but didn't look fabulous enough on me to justify the price even with the 20% off.

I ended up just getting the Drapey Stripe Tank, which was $19.99 in store.

  6. @Mia, I'm planning to hit the (strange smelling) Crewlet and U. Village B&M next weekend myself ;)

Did any JCA's hear from the SA's if there will be any promos running through the next weekend (or new roll out this week)? Think it's a holiday in the States so maybe some specials to attract shoppers? Any heads up would be very appreciated! TIA!

  7. I ran in there to do a super quick return and saw a very cute casual jersey (cotton?) dress w/ruffles all the way down. I had my son w/me and he was sick, so I didn't really look around or have time to try on anything. But my PS told me new arrivals next Tuesday.
