Jenna Lyons at Fashion Week {pattern overload}

A big "thanks!" to awakeningmywardrobe, as well as Fabulous Florida Mommy (in this post), who shared the image above of J.Crew's Creative Director, Jenna Lyons, during fashion week back in February 2013 (image from Vanessa Jackman's "New York Fashion Week AW 2013....Jenna" post).

Just for fun, the second image is of Jenna during Fashion Week in September 2012 (image from Vanessa Jackman's "New York Fashion Week SS 2013...Jenna" post).

Jenna loves to mix things up with bold patterns and contrasting colors. I feel like she is the only one who can get away with these outfits! If I tried any of these looks, I get the side-eye from my friends.

What are your thoughts on Jenna Lyons' outfit? In general, do you like her personal style? Would you emulate it? :)

  1. I never ever ever wanna look like Jenna. Ever.

  2. I love her coat in the 1st pic and I'm a fan of the sleek bun. Clearly she designed all of the crazy pants currently available. Including the crazy flag pants.

  3. Word, Christy. LOL. I feel like the models in the Madewell catalog that I randomly received last week all channel Jenna as well. Not feeling it.

  4. If you look at second photo long enough the first photo looks great.

  5. I really admire Jenna's style.
Would I try to copy her? Not very likely.

  7. Jenna looks amazing in the first picture and totally dwarfs Tom Mora. I love the individual pieces in each look - though I never understood the appeal of those green wide legged trousers. I don't think I would wear the combinations she has ; I prefer to style the pieces my own way... But her styling isn't that outrageous either. I really do wonder if she named the first look "dots and spots" to herself!

  8. I love the silhouette of the first outfit. A different combo of textures and prints would make that outfit read amazing, especially on her frame.

I really don't care for the fur coat with the weirdly patterned cafe capris. I think one or the other, ya know? Pattern overload is a great title for this post, Alexis! LOL.

  9. These two photos help me understand better why JC has gone overboard with their cafe capri offerings. Jenna looks much better in them than in actual pants! But then again, isn't she quite tall?

  10. the silhouette of the second outfit seems to 70s to me. like something i've seen my mother wear in old photos. the first outfit would be okay without the coat. i suppose she is the only woman in the world who can pull these off.

  11. I'm a print fiend but I don't like this "trend" of layering prints on top of prints on top of prints. Maybe it's the artist in me but I've always believed that a print should be a single played up item and the focal point, when you have more than that going on its just distracting and everything gets lost. It looks noisy.

  12. SHE is awesome. I love what she's accomplished, she seems like a nice lady in interviews - like someone you'd love to have as a girlfriend and discuss shoes over coffee.

Her style - not so much. I think her style is in spite of style - like look at me, I'm going to do whatever I want and claim it as my style even if it doesn't look good. And I'm not being mean here, but those glasses are so not flattering.

And while I'm at it, the models in both Jcrew and Madewell are so uninspiring - for the most part, they are all clones of Jenna.

  13. I think Jenna's style is similar to runway shows or "street" style - arty and creative - but I don't think that either translate all that well to real life.

The problem I have is that the fashion folk seem to be getting crazier and crazier with style all in some competition to see who is the most stylish or fashionable. When looking at people on Sartorialist, it's usually the quiet, classic ones that inspire me the most - I just cannot relate to, say, this...http://www.thesartorialist.com/photos/if-youre-thinking-about-peekaboo/ or this...http://www.thesartorialist.com/photos/on-the-street-run-saint-honore-paris/

All that said, I think Jenna is super-cool and would love to have a drink with her (and then steal that leopard-print coat).

  14. I actually like her first outfit because it is at least flattering. In the second, outfit with the green floral full length pants, she looks like one of those stilt walkers at the circus. I guess I'm so used to seeing cropped pants that anything else looks wierd to me.

    1. Oops weird! I can spell although you'd never know it.
I want to add I think Jenna is fabulous especially afrer watching her shiny ponies shoe video. I wouldn't want to be uninvited if all the other Jcas met up with her for coffee. In addition: my comment was not intended to be derogatory toward those who are tall. As a somewhat shortie just wanted to clarify that!
