Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Today I found some gingham button downs at Old Navy that are similar to J. Crew's. I also saw a scarf/paisley print shift dress, for those of you looking for a shift scarf print shift dress similar to the Jules dress but don't want to spend the $$$. Old Navy has so many dupes right now.

    1. Thanks for the info, Gigi!
Has anyone received the Banana Republic email yet? I've been checking my email all day and still nothing.

    2. I received an email from my direct store, but it was a first come first served type thing where you had to reply back to get the code. I missed out. I got the e-mail on Monday, but each store maybe different.

    3. Thanks, TXgirl14. They must be doing it differently this time. Last time I got one because I have a BR Luxe card.

    4. I would contact them if you are a cardholder then. I'm not. I know my store always makes sure to give cardholders the perks even if they miss the date or whatnot. I should really trade in my J.Crew card for a BR card. :)

  5. After raving about the GAP recently, I just returned my GAP Essential short-sleeved tees. The colors are great and I bought a few. I washed one before taking the tags off the others, to make sure that it washed well, and it didn't. The trim around the collar looked terrible, twisted a bit and just not nice. The sales associate said she steams hers, but that is too high-maintenance for me for a basic tee. I returned them all. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll stick with J. Crew's Vintage Tees. I think I am the only person who does not get holes in them. I still have my Banana Republic short-sleeved tees too, which are a bit thicker, and they are going strong. Those have lasted and still look good.

    1. in that vein, I'm going to say that while I do still love my adorable camo skinny jeans, they stretched out SO much while wearing them. And I had sized down to my smaller size in these. So, word of warning. If you're planning on getting them, try a size down at least.

    2. My vintage tees are fine too, I have them since last couple of years and they wash well, no holes. Hopefully I am not going to jink my luck with this post.

  6. I folks, recently picked up a Ralph Lauren dress at Macys (which is also available online) and some new Tory Burch wedges. Review here:

  7. The new JCP line at JCP has many crew like items. I picked up a gingham shirt in a midtone mint green. I am happy with the quality. The cotton is thick and it washed very well - much nicer than the ON shirts. Better fit on my busty self as well. Has some of those little JC type touches like a contrasting button hole on the top button.

They also have a silk cotton blend shirt that is really nice. There are a few bright paisleys and a bird pattern in navy (looks geometric until you get up close).

I also purchased some of the ankle skinnies. These have a higher rise than Matchsticks, which works better for me. I also saw a nice jean jacket and cafe capri type pants. Nice bright colors, too.

Joe Fresh hasn't opened yet at my JCP. They are still building. From what I can tell the jury is out as to whether it's "regular" Joe Fresh or a special line for JCP. Can anyone confirm which? I love Joe Fresh and it's one of my must visit stops when I'm in NYC.

    1. I tried two pairs of the slim fit sateen pants from Joe Fresh at JCP. The inner tag at the side seam said "Joe Fresh for JCP". To me, that means it is a special line.

The pants were OK, but had major gapping at the waist so I had to return them immediately. I preferred the printed ones over the plain.

I agree that JCP has some cute items in the JCP line, and I also found some cute tops in the Worthington section. I like the way they have revamped the store - before, I would never have set foot in a JCP!

On the Joe Fresh topic, I saw some random Joe Fresh items in the men's section at Marshall's yesterday.

  8. I recently bought the woven graphic a-line skirt (I think that is what it is called) at Banana Republic here in Tokyo. I think the cut is almost the same if not the same as the J Crew sterling skirt. It is a coarse weave 100% cotton, acetate lined skirt. I have a photo of it on my blog.

I also tried the BR hampton fit slim cropped pant which I liked because it seemed a slightly higher rise than the JC's city fit cafe capri.

Finally I tried and liked the BR silk buttoned tank which I am considering as a replacement for much loved JC sleeveless elodie blouse. It isn't quite as good as sleeveless elodie but it might be as close as I am going to get.

Sorry about the repost my typos were bugging me. Even sorrier if I haven't fixed them all.

  9. Forever21 has a bunch of dupes out as well right now. Their Essentials line especially. Here are just a few...
Elodie in stripe (and poly, of course!) - Striped Chiffon Top
Ring Around Eyelet Top - the eyelet is a bit different, but it has the same tied keyhole back and is 100% cotton - Eyelet Top
And, my favorite find - Jeweled Sweatshirt - the rhinestones are only on the front, but it is 100% cotton - Rhinestoned French Terry Pullover
Here is a review of it with a IRL picture (not my blog) - IRL Picture
They also have dupes of the Ultra Eyelet Shell, Heart Me Sweater, etc. etc

    1. The strappy sandsls that I ordered took 4 days before I got a ship notification. Usually, they are pretty good.

    2. Boden takes MUCH longer to ship in my experience. Sometimes I get my JC packages in 48hrs (lucky, I know!); and Boden can take up to two weeks.

  15. Frye!! I recently got hooked on this company through a friend of mine...they re-soled a pair of boots that was 10 years old. Their customer service and quality is so far superior to crew...it's not even fair to compare. Their Paige tall riding boots and Erin oxfords are particularly similar. They also have a great line of sandals and flats. A few suggestions...their boots are sized at least one full size smaller than usual size...but they do stretch out and form to your feet. Also....I would suggest buying directly from their website or amazon (free shipping!!!) because the larger stores like Nordstrom's etc tack an additional $10-$15 on per item. I have seen some great sales at the larger stores though...so it would be worth it to buy a sale item there. They also have great customer service and replacement/fixing ad needed. Could you I aging if jc did that???

    2. thanks reaganflowers. That is really irritating. The warehouse is only three hours from my house... wish I could just shoot down there and pick up my shoes. Even the retailers who ship by smartpost (Gap) ship faster than this.

  17. Recently got the BR gingham Hampton pants from the new Mad Men collection - love! The fabric is beautiful! I take the same size as I do in the cafe capri but I think the fit of Hampton works a little better on me. Very pleased with the pants, they have a retro but classic look. They are $89.50 (I think) but I got them at 35% off during a recent promo so the price was right too.
