This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.
If
you have recently experienced a
frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe
you might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Please
feel free to share your story on almost
any topic— including poor experiences with
purchases & orders, promotions/ offers,
in-store visits, transactions with store
associates, etc.
I purchased a tissue turtleneck tee in stripe on the last promo. I washed it for the very first time yesterday (on gentle, as instructed) and the back hem completely unraveled. Granted I didn't pay that much for it, but this is supposed to be a $45 item and it fell apart the first time I washed it.
ReplyDeleteIt has been discussed over and over on this blog, but I am so sick of the sale games and the items that languish in the sale section for MONTHS. I use the % sales to stock up on things I know I will like. But lately I haven't been doing that much because it's the same colors sale after sale (and then that color goes back up to full price...!?!). I got some pencil skirts for a good discount last fall, and the same colors I got then are still hanging around, and are priced differently with every sale. I also had an odd experience the other day when I was selecting a size for a pair of pants. The size 10 was not FS, but the size 12 was. What is that about?? I hate the games!!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I'm still sad about not being able to buy from both J Crew and the Factory at the same time. I found a couple items from both sites that I like, but won't be getting any because it's not worth the cost of shipping, to me anyway.
ReplyDeleteI am somewhat frustrated with J. Crew's customer service. I purchased the Tortoise Link Necklace the day before the new promo. I immediately called the next day to inquire about a price adjustment. The associated shared that the item was not finl sale and the discount did not apply. As a result, I carried out another purchase for the item and discount did apply. I called back and the associate followed through with the adjustment. Before dismissing a customer's concern, follow through with researching the matter. I shouldn't have to do the leg work.
ReplyDeleteI wish J Crew would have a "fresh cuts" link in their 'final' sale items. Ridiculous that we need to book mark favorites, or scan every section to see what;s new. These games are getting tiring. Also, I wrote a complaint to my online VPS recently, about the quality of the Hummingbird print clutch. The clasp was dull brass rectangle, and the clutch was really cheap. Feels like cardboard covered in fabric. The inside has a funny odor (why do items from China share this awful smell?
ReplyDeletePesticides? Chemicals in lining?) And all that I put it in to use it recently was my iPhone, and my license, debit card and some folded bills, and one house key. And it had gaps all around, wouldn't close evenly no matter what, even though there was plenty of space left inside. How could this item list for $248? Even with a 20% promo, at $199, it isn't worth it. They offered to let me return it, and I am thinking about it. I would keep it if it was $39.99, as I do like the fabric, but it's making me mad what it cost, and the quality it is not. Thank you for letting me vent. Anyone else have this "Hummingbird Floral Print Silk Menauderie?"
If you zoom in on its pic on the website, there are runs all over it.
Deletelunarary - if you read the online description of the fabric, it is "silk shantung for some chic irregular texture." Silk shantung always has that look, so the fabric didn't bother me. But I do think it would look bad on the pants, as was pointed out by a fellow jca, milljcrew. It really isn't a defect. But I can see where you can just add that to the other poorly designed features (cheap cardboard feel, dull, uninteresting, and difficult to use clasp.) As you can tell, I am leaning toward returning it.
DeleteOooh ok, got it. Thanks for pointing that out! I can always appreciate learning new textile vocab.
DeleteThanks Suzy for saving me some aggravation. That hummingbird clutch was the only thing I wanted from the rollout. Was sad when it sold out fast & I kept checking to see if it gets stocked again. That defective piece may be a one-off but it shouldn't have passed inspection & quality control. I've had a couple of leather bags & wallets returned because of poor stitching or wrinkly leather. I just avoid Jcrew purses now, not worth the hassle of ordering & returning. With the spiralling prices you would think they can improve quality. On the same note, I recently visited a store & was struck how many items looked better in the catalog than IRL. Really disappointed, I thought things have turned around. That's my vent for today.
ReplyDeleteUGH - my first received-the-wrong item vent... Was expecting Minnie's in red, received a red pencil skirt. Nice skirt, but come on. Think of how many items amazon and zappos handle a day without screw ups, and jcrew can't bother to check to see if my pants are indeed pants???
ReplyDeleteI hate how the catalog or online photos depict the wrong clothing colors than in real life. In the photos it's all washed out or enhanced. "Oh pretty, a neutral rose blush blouse! This will go great with my skin color." ...2 weeks in the mail later..."Wth?"-- A pepto bismol pink/turkey mauve blouse. Return. From now on, I have to do the leg work and google search images of the item before buying, hoping that bloggers have a corrected color photo.
