Sneak Peak: J.Crew's April 2013 Catalog {thanks Jan!}

A big "thanks!" to Jan who scanned several pages from the Women's Section of the April 2013 catalog for us to view. There are lots of cute items in the upcoming collection! Just click on any image to view larger. (Please note that the prices reflected in the catalog are Canadian Dollar.)

I am not going to lie, I am very excited about the upcoming catalog. Not only does it have a throw back vibe to J.Crew's earlier catalogs (thanks to its nautical theme), but the clothes look pretty darn awesome too. I am loving the stripes and fun prints!

As many of you have mentioned already, the newest arrivals should be available online this week.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming catalog? Do you like the outfits featured in the catalog?

  1. Not sure about those horizontal stripes on the pants and skirt but I really like the shift dress and the blue stripe silk popover!

    1. The blue stripe popover has been in my store for a couple weeks. The white silk is extremely sheer, which is disappointing because I would love to add a silk popover as I've missed out on past ones.

  4. Thanks so much for scanning, Jan! Thanks to Alexis, too.
We're going into Autumn here, so I guess a lot of the new things will be too summery. I love the look of that white dress, though

  6. Not sure how but I got my catalogue in the mail last night, usually I get mine a week or so after others post they have theirs. Yes, Alexis, this is a wonderful catalogue, happy, smiling ladies, beautiful scenery and styling. But the prices ouch...I did see some of the new arrivals in store yesterday but nothing I could wear, the mini skirt above for example. For you JCAs that love your JC sweatshirts, there is a eyelet front one 44933E for $88 in Marled cloud. If I can answer any questions on item numbers or prices (USD), please post.

    1. do you know how much that white lace shirt is at the top in US$?

also-- i ordered that eyelet sweatshirt you mentioned. being delivered today. i'll post my thoughts later.

and does anyone know when the next wave of rewards cards go out? might help take the sting out of the new arrivals for me :)

  7. Thanks for scanning Jan! I still haven't received my catalog yet, but am really looking forward to getting it after seeing these images. It looks as if there will be several things that I'll want to try, including the gorgeous embroidered eyelet top in the first picture.

  8. Ooh, I love the white eyelet top, Biennial Hobo cutout ($335 - yikes), and pretty striped miniskirt! Thanks, Jan!

    1. The striped miniskirt is stunning IRL, I saw in at my B&M yesterday. (Which BTW not sure why Colorado would be getting new arrivals so early, we never do). But it was hanging and I could not see that it was a skirt thought it was shorts, because it is just that SHORT. Kudos to the ladies that can pull that length off.

    2. The biennal hobo is already online under spring must haves(whites).

    3. I do not see it there. The rost dust one is under another color story. This new one has cut outs....is it online ? am I missing it somewhere ?

    4. It is there under Spring Must Haves, Whites..scroll down it is on the second to last row. That is the one in the catalog. HTH

  10. I'm glad I could contribute since I rely on this wonderful blog and other great blogs by JCAs. :)

I really like this style guide but the pieces that I like the most are quite expensive.

  12. Jan, thank you for taking the time to share with us! I get catalogs maybe 1-2 times a year, so it is much appreciated.

WTH is up with the $880 dress? It is wool/silk, which is a lovely material, but. It isn't made of spun gold... and I can't think of a material, other than leather, that could justify such a price. Why couldn't they have just made it out of a nice silk twill, or linen, or cotton, for $150-300? Like they used to do, even for collection dresses. (Think of the sam remo dress, or the vintage violet dress. Both had gorgeous prints, were 100% silk, and yet were $250-$350. Expensive, but reasonable for what you were getting!) $880 is just outlandish.

    1. And...of course, that's the one image I loved and enlarged. Only to see that its the $880 dress. I have no idea what makes a dress that expensive. Its absurd, and I'll have to admire it from afar, I suppose.

The lace blouse is absolutely stunning on the model, but I suspect its because she's small busted and willowy. The shirt is also absurdly expensive, though.

I don't really need anything, and I picked up a few items from the last rollout, so I need to temper my spring wardrobe spending. There's still snow on the ground!

Someone mentioned the eyelet sweatshirt, which I saw in the store and tried on. Its very cute, and the eyelet looks high quality, but the sweatshirt itself was a little boxy. If it makes it to sale (when will I learn that almost EVERYTHING makes it to sale), I'll reconsider it.

    2. JCrewJD, as Alexis mentioned the prices Jan scanned are CAD but sorry $795 USD ain't much better.

    3. Ridiculous!!! That is the only item I liked too; I actually got my hopes up about JCrew after not buying anything since just after the holidays. I'll continue to take my money elsewhere this spring. Full price Tory Burch is looking CHEAP!

  13. I like the printed pencil skirt, but I have way too many pencil skirts (probably 60% of them J.Crew) already.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Nothing in the images I want. Having said that, the styling is lovely, the models look happy and a lot of the pieces are very cute. There will be a lot for people to love I think, if they can afford the items. The prices are a little ouchy.

  15. I forgot to mention that I saw a couple of new arrivals at a Toronto b&m on the weekend. I saw a mini in the same pattern as the white lace stripe dress but in poppy red. I also saw what appeared to be last years Villa stripe dress in off white with either black or navy stripes.

  16. The only things I saw that really piqued my interest were that fun orange (fruit) patterned shirt and the striped slouchy-looking shorts.

I love that orange fruit shirt...so festive!

  17. I think, from seeing the first few pages, it really goes back to the earlier catalogs that captured my love for J.CREW. Prices? Ouch even if they are Canadian. Ouch. The difference for USD does not appear to be lower. With that said, I think I'm good on items but I might have to splurge on the cutout handbag and the lower wedge sandals. Other than that, I'm good and I've tried the latest round of J.Crew mini skirts and they are just too short for me now. I'm athletic and I feel they are still too short. I'm 5'8 and it doesn't work. I fell in love with the recent polka dot skirt so I believe the stripe will be the same thing.

Interested to see more of the catalog.

  18. One last mention, if anyone liked the Shoe Sketch design, I believe that came in a scarf and iphone case?? There is a skirt, Silk Crepe de Chine in Shoe Sketch, $168 42983E. Looks full, blowy and longer, past knee on the model.

  19. I like the look of the catalog and if I were new to J. Crew I'd be thrilled to add a lot of this to my wardrobe but as a long-time shopper, I have stripe fatigue. Prices are high but none of the merchandise seems fresh from a design perspective.

  20. I have the eyelet sweatshirt. I originally had the XXS but swapped for XS which is an inch longer. There was an inch difference in the width and it is cropped and both were boxy so I decided that I preferred an inch longer if it was going to be loose regardless. I also have the peony one and that one is XXS but hits lower on my hip. I like them both but have worn the eyelet one much more so far. I wish it came in more than one color and they had cut it longer. The quality is good as long as you remember the inner layer is chiffon type fabric and don't catch it on anything.

  21. Just went to mailbox and surprised to find my April style guide. I love the St. Bart's location since it brings back vacation memories. Liked the shadow floral dress til I saw the price $795. Whoa mama. Probably wouldn't work for me anyway. Who wears a wool blend dress in summer! Lots to put on my wish list though: the orange citrus print perfect shirt, gilded dot cafe capri, pop art tippi, tybee slide sandal, eyelet front sweatshirt, pop art tank swimsuit, stripe gauze cardigan in mocha mint navy, cashmere colorblock sweater in clay/peach/pink and lots of the jewelry. Not too many fun print cafe capris though. The orange tones are really calling me (or sucking me in). Way too much on my list but it is fun to dream.

    3. The guide has a 8 page section with a black background and the models dressed in white so the colorful jewels really pop. Lots of blues and greens with big colorful stones. New crystal drops necklace $148 is a bib with pastel opaque stones in green, pink and blue. Over the top but very pretty. Necklaces are all stacked together in multiples in some cases so it is hard to tell what is what. Big color collage earrings with multi jewels in pink green and blue. Colornix statement necklace looks like a jelly bean explosion at $165. What attracts me most is the green and blue arm candy stacks of bracelets. The frog, dolphin, green bold stone, color mix, pave link and solid enamel bangles I'm a sucker for blues and greens. HTH.

    4. Ruth. The pop art dot tippi has orange dots on an ivory or white background with color block sleeves with navy dots in the same dot pattern. The color is red/cove but it looks deep orange to me. (Like the modern red color). Price is $95 item # 85499e The pattern looks very similar to the pink and mint pop art tees that were in the February rollout. It looks very cute and is on my list because it is different. I hope it is more orange than red though or it will look like a US flag. Merino wool might be perfect for your fall! HTH

  24. I just got back from my B&M (returns) where they were offering the 25% off $150 / 30% for cardholders. I saw a few of the new arrivals: the multi stripe mini (short!), the stripe silk popover, a pair of navy and white striped shorts (not the rope stripe sailor shorts, but very similar -- more uniform stripes, no buttons and $59.00).

I also saw an adorable blue striped silk dress ($148, lined in polyester). The blue was really pretty a bright, light blue. I was very tempted, especially with the promotion, but I just don't need any dresses. It has a gathered elastic waist and hit mid-thigh. Not as short as the jules dress (and the dress was more of a fit and flare than a shift dress).

    2. I went in to see the new arrivals. I loved that blue striped silk dress. It was so cheerful. I didn't see it in the catalog. I loved the stripe silk popover, too. It is much better on than on the hangar. It fit like a Blythe. I expected it to be sheer, but I thought it was fine.

  25. Saw the striped red, white, and blue dress today. Nicely made and has pockets! It's above the knees and I'm 5' 2.

    1. I tried it on, it was scandalously short on me! (and I'm only 5'4") The pockets were great though and it seemed well-made.

    2. I agree, Cate. The dress was well made and the material seemed sturdy. It's just a bit too short. This may be another version of the Jules dress but sleeveless and too short for most women who are taller than a certain height.

  26. I didn't get my catalog, boo hoo :( Does anybody know how much the No. 2 pencil skirt in ivory with the same blue print as the dress costs? I can't get that set of pics to enlarge. I liked that skirt and the eyelet top, but the price of the top is way too high. Thanks.

  28. All the really cute, to-die-for pieces are Collection, with the prices to match. At this rate, I'm going to have to go rehabbing to get off the Crewlade.

Until then, I bought all the items on my wishlist to try on while the 30% off is in effect, with the vain hope that I won't love any.

Anxiously awaiting the Daisy lace mini, Lace stripe dress, Collection embroidered eyelet top, Pencil wrap skirt, Linen schoolboy in white and Colorblock sail jacket (sucker for anything nautical).
The one that I am most excited for is the Collection snakeskin pumps in Parisian yellow. I swear J.Crew's peeps are peering into my dreams or big-brothering me. I have been fantasizing about yellow snakeskin pumps for so long (my fav color). I saw them and thought that I was still asleep. I know, how specific! Fingers crossed that the yellow is brilliant and the leather supple. I want them to be worth it.

And hopefully that's it for me. I don't want to have to end up doing anything drastic like staying away from this blog. I just couldn't! lol
